Inbreeded apps... - Gen8 General

post witdrawn

Why is this here? What has this to do with Archos Gen8?!

post witdrawn

1) please write in english or at least add some translation in english to it. forum language is english. of course you can write private messages in the language you like the most.
2) no censorship intended nor requested, it's just a simple question because I didn't get the link between your complains and the Archos Gen8 devices.
3) when you say "market" you're talking about _the_ Android Market? If yes, Android Market is not and will never be part of the official Archos Gen8 firmware.
4) if you want to complain about the software quality of some third party programs from AppsLib / Android Market / [enter source you got the apps from] write to the developers of the specific app directly. I'm sure, this will then get much more attention than a posting in the general section of some specific device which will never be read by those developers because they don't develop for this device specifically but for Android in general.
5) battery saver apps mostly do one thing: killing apps so they're not running in the background and thus don't need cpu power / battery. often also called "task killers". newer battery saver apps are also "smart" and disable WiFi / bluetooth / etc. if not needed to save much more battery.

@Anvil2k12:
What type of troll are you?
First posting a completely unreleated post in this forum and next pissing on the one asking for your reason to post that here.
Are you nuts?
Free Speach doesn't mean that everything you say has to be accepted everywhere.

Well.. Ok, I'm a very active user, but obviously that is not enough for obtaining Moderator status..
Quote from FAQ:
"Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other actions. Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating."

I'm not sure I am as knowledgeable as one would have to be. But I mean, for enforcing rules in the forum, and for deleting useless threads like this.. I think I could handle it And yes, there are far to few active Moderators.
I'm very sad to hear you feel this way though gtrab, as you are one of our real support-pillars here at XDA:X1. It's a shame that we keep driving people like you away with the lack of organization of the forum.
The problem as I see it is when you get "knowledgable" enough to become a Moderator, you most likely will be spending your time cooking and developing, and most probably have no time for rather simple tasks such as - deleting usless threads like these Sad downwards spiral..
It's already been discussed but I wouldn't buy this thing unless it has a slider form factor for a keyboard.

Applications missing from Android Market

This issue relates to my HTC Desire which an unlocked handset in the UK. It has come to my attention that certain applications do not appear to be in the Android Market that I would have expected. For example the Gameloft titles (eg Asphalt 5) do not appear.
Are these applications country restricted or perhaps do I have an issue. I read elsewhere that the issue could be related to locale or language in the settings, howeve rI have checked these are set to English.
Try using search instead of asking a question that's already been asked and answered a dozen times already.

This is true, however this matter could have also been settled in less than the 26 hours or 3 posts it took for you to school a noob.
Let's play nice FloatingFatMan; this is not the first thread I've read on here in that last few days where your comments are rude or unhelpful.
@npw - You'll find the answer to your question is that Google have not yet approved the Desire ROM for use with protected apps. Wait a little and the missing apps should appear in good time.
As already mentioned, please remember to Google thoroughly before you post!
Yes, thank you monkeyfishing, that was the answer I found after googling it. I searched this forum but not Google, this has always been my first stop for HTC related questions. Slight mistake on my part, but thank you for polite answer/ request to search rather than the rant of an ill tempered fat man (a floating one at that). I guess its just a waiting game for google to approve the desire for protected apps

*Rimshot*!

How much data can you actually obtain from an app/game?

I mean in terms of user habits. Can you:
- find out when the user is using your app/playing your game
- where they are geographically located (assuming they accept this prior to install)
- what the user has done in your game/app (as in what level they are at for games, or what data they searched for in your app)
- how often they click the banner ads in your app (if you own the banner ad for example)
- which banner ads they click (if you own the banner ad for example)
Thanks for your time guys!
yes, and that's not even the tip of the iceberg.

lol, nice pic.
so any anyone shed some light or recommend any articles which would tell me what type of info an android app can take ?
or a iphone app for that matter.
i don't like the way this conversation is going. if your intentions were good, fair and honest, you'd be asking 'how to make this kicking app', not 'how to monitor my users'. the first bit comes before the second one. and the second bit is just basic knowledge that you'd use from the first one.
Im doing this because I am writing a research report on app privacy. I am a Ph.D student. I have no programming background to ever create an app. I am just trying to post on forums with knowledgeable people like this one to gain a bit more understanding of the privacy issues of the iPhone vs. Android.
If you would not like to post here, please feel free to PM me.
Thank You.
it's very simple. look at the docs for android, think how it could be used to monitor users, et voila. an app could have total access to the phone meaning all data that is on it could be monitored by an app. whether the user will use your app that wants all these permissions is unlikely and you really are asking a pointless question.
you are a phd student, i'll assume you can think for yourself, and so you sh/could be researching this for yourself by reading the docs (mind you, you will have to think though). no one is going to come out and say juicy things like "well, if you do this, you can get this info and this info and use it to do this" because it's probably going to be illegal. it's your paper, your credit, think man, think.

What's that got to do with anything? If anything, that makes matters that much worse - if he's so tech-savvy, he should know about using the search function before opening ANY new threads.
well, after use "Search" I've found many threads w/o answer. So I just would like to know why, just ont one, simple answer.
I kind of agree with him, there is the need of a sticky thread that clearly states what and why cannot work, and what instead is needed, and why.

You should know better than that. Opening a new thread when one already exists on the same subject is a big no-no on XDA. Opening a new thread KNOWING one already exists just makes it worse.
Anyway, I'm sure there's a good reason a Galaxy R release doesn't help. The devs have no obligation to explain in great technical detail why this is not possible, if they say this won't work you should be able to trust their expertise and experience on that. If you need solid proof and reason, maybe you could try extracting the drivers and making them work on the Atrix yourself.
