[Q] Amazon AppStore APK - login issues - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After re-imaging, I re-downloaded the Amazon Appstore APK but the sign-in authentication always fails. I have 3 NCs, and of the 2 I re-imaged, I ran into the same problems.
Is there a work around for the sign in authentication issue?
The only way I got it back was flashing a TB backup.

no answer sry
Newb to forum and android . I only have Google apps on my NC getup atm. Didn't know they made amazon apps T_T. Sorry for silly post, trying to get my post count up so i can comment in the developer section

Not aware of a work-around for that issue. Did you download the APK from Amazon directly?
As an alternative to Titaunium Backup, excellent as it is, I've recently started using Android Assistant for these restores of often-used apps. It creates self-contained apks that don't require installation of anything else to restore.

So what is so pressing that you can only post in the Developer section about it?

I had the same problem, I re-installed the root zip for NC 1.4.1 (5-12-12)
and it worked after that and I did download it directly from the Amazon Appstore site.

I did download the APK straight from Amazon. Thanks for the help. I'll try the Amazon assistant and see if that works.
It would suck if Amazon was locking down the store more and excluding devices that are competitive with its offerings.....

I know this is a little old; but if you guys haven't identified it you have to go into your Amazon account and deregister some devices.
It's under Your account > Apps devices > Your devices ...
Delete some old flashes you had and it will work fine.

I'm having the SAME Issue. I cleaned out all my old devices, clear cache and data, uninstalled and re-installed and this is the ONLY device having an issue logging in. I talked with Amazon to get it fixed, but becasue it is a rooted device, they would NOT help me. ALL of my PAID apps will no longer function. The Kindle software works fine: I can buy thru it fine, access my books. Totally lost now. Is there some place I need to delete something to get this working again??

I am having this same issue. Did you guys get it worked out? I have even downloaded older versions

[Google Apps] Without Rooting Kindle Fire 6.2.1

It is totally possible to sideload google apps without Rooting on version 6.2.1. It is a fairly simple process but needs to be done in the correct order.
1.Open Settings
2. Select Device
3. Turn on Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources
4. Download GoogleServicesFramework.apk and install. You need to download the correct version or it will not install. I apologize for not having the version number but currently it can be found @ www.mediafire.com/?4ykd6rdikmz5l8c
6.Download books.apk - Do Not Open
7. Reboot
8. Open Books and add google account. This even works with multiple accounts.
9. Shortly after you should have a notification requesting permission of your google account. Click allow.
10. Sideload Google apps of your choice. See below for options.
Google Apps that work
Google Music
Google +
Google Books
others...
Sideloading Google Apps
1.Sideloading Google app of your choice
1a.Find on filesharing website i.e. 4shared.com, filestube.com, etc.
1b. Backup from another device and use drop box to access
1c. Transferring apk via USB
2. Open .apk file and click install
This will work flawlessly if done in the right order. Remember GoogleServicesFramework.apk install, books.apk, reboot , open books , add account, and voila.
If I have helped you please thank me.
Enjoy.....

Thanks, that's great news since I'm getting one for Christmas and I just read Amazon is forcing that update :/
6.2
Will this also work with 6.2?
install lookoutsecurity before installing apps from third party warez sites............or just root it and use android market
This is fantastic. Once I have books installed and my gmail account synced, will I be able to just grab a Market apk to sideload and then get everything I want from the Market?
I've been back and forth between the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire as my cheap tablet to buy, and the Nook Tablet took a big hit when they disabled sideloading. I think the Kindle Fire is popular enough that it will also be a target for an official CM9 release as the CM9 project gains steam.

The subject of the thread is wrong Misleading.
You can't install the GoogleServicesFramework.apk into /system/app where it needs to be in order for it to work without having root access.
Update:
You need that GoogleServicesFramework.apk to do things like Android Market, Gmail etc...
You can only install a few google apps without root access. The Market Place requires root access, which you can't get with the latest version of the kindle software (6.2.1)
If you are rooted and have Market already installed, will today's update make Market stop working?
If you have GoogleServicesFramework.apk installed, will that cease to function?
Will it break the wallpaper change fix?

Depends how you installed/updated it. All files in /system/app get replaced. If you installed the market place and it has since updated itself (installing to a different location that doesn't get cleared with the update) then you should be okay. Had a fresh install of the Market Place following online guides to copy it into /system/app then a good chance it will stop working.

OK I tried. This is just the googleservices.apk and installing it won't get your Market working if it was broken from the update to 6.2.1.

Google Currents
I lost root and Google Currents after 6.2.1 update. I still have a functional Android market and Gmail. Google Currents won't install now. I get an error stating missing Google library.
Any suggestions how to reinstall Currents. BTW, I was able to install Google Books successfully. Thanks.

I reinstalled the 'GoogleServicesFramework.apk' (the version I had installed previously, not the one linked above). It installed fine but I get The application Market has stopped unexpectedly Force Close when I boot the Kindle, and also when I try to run the Market place and Install an app.
Until I ran the GoogleServicesFramework.apk I didn't get the bootup error. I ran the installer from the sdcard, previously (with root access) I was able to copy and run it from '/system/app' which I think makes all the difference.

Does your Gmail still update itself and show new email notifications without you having to open gmail and manually refresh? I think though Gmail still runs the service that runs in the background has stopped post update.

Your correct. Gmail no longer auto updates. When opened it shows "no conversations." Thanks for your reply.
I had 6.2 rooted but got updated to 6.2.1 even I amended the hosts file and rename the Silent apk to bak, also with TWRP 2.0 installed. Anyway, I re-install the GoogleServicesFramework.apk, and I can access the Android Market again.
I tried to use the GoogleServicesFramework.apk link provided in this thread, but it didn't work. The original one worked, so I am happy to be able to access the Android Market again.
didnt work for me
Very important! it now works, u must have the right google frameworks, if it installs u have right one. Then dont use the vending apk, i use the apk that said market apk and it worked perfectly, market now works.

Erica Renee...
I just updated mine last week and now find that I can't install programs from non-android market sources. I have tried installing Amazon Market, with not luck. What is strange, is that when I get to the screen that says accept permissions, the install button won't activate, only the cancel button works. I tried installing another non-android app with the same situation. Yes, I clicked on unknown sources first.
Is this something that Android (Google) is trying to monopolize? Not happy about this, as one of my most used apps, which requires a recurring subscription, has been removed from the Android Market, and now I can't update it!!
Hey Erica,
As far as I understand the apps from amazon are not identical to those from the market place. I think since the market is more commonly used, apps are submitted there first and updated by the developers as frequently as they want. With Amazon, the apps must be submitted to be approved. They approve the updated apps (or not potentially) which is why they are so far behind the same apps in the market place.
I think they are also technically different apps since they must inject some code that forces that app to require that the amazon market place be installed before you able to run the app (if you remove the amazon marketplace app you can't run an app installed from amazon). I doubt that would affect the upgrade of an app, but I could see why google's marketplace would say it was not a legit app.
Erica. it happens when you wipe your data partition and then restore the app with TB. Somewhere in there android market will think its one of its apps and tag it. The only way to prevent this from happening is by re-downloading the app from Amazon after a data partition wipe and then restoring the data only with TB. I know this sucks but its a flaw with either TB or the way the market scans and registers your apps. That is why I usually never wipe my data partition when I switch roms. Its such a pain to get everything set up again.

You need to go into settings/applications and make sure unkown sources has a check mark next to it.

But I've seen this happen and I still use stock on my phone and tab. I have read others complain of this issue on amazon's forums and I was pretty sure these were people who didn't use a custom rom (but can't be sure about that though, maybe they weren't admitting it since it was on amazon's forums)

I did check unknown sources first. The strange thing is, I was able to download the same apps on my droid bionic, but not on my a500.
I had that issue a while back and un-installing/re-DLing/re-installing the Amazon app apk. fixed it for me. But I'm guessing you have already tried that. What version of market are you using? I had an issue with the newest version of market for a bit where it would make certain games/apps FC on me. Had to revert back to the version that came on the tab to get everything working again. Not really like your issue, but from what I was told at that point, the new market can cause all sorts of wonkiness with stuff. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Install Google apps without root and/or not affected by updates

Quite a while back, I lost root and I lost my Google apps functionality after a new update was pushed, and so I followed this thread to get my Google services working again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401486&highlight=google+services&page=1 <-- that thread contained links to a download of a file that installed like an app that "fixed" Google services frameworks and apps that were broken after an update was pushed, but that download is no longer available.
I had since rooted again using KFU, and when the last update to 6.3 was pushed, I was pleasantly surprised that the update, while breaking root again, did NOT screw up my Google apps -- gmail, maps and gTalk all still worked fine! I don't know how, but when I look in my system/app folder, the one that gets cleared/overwritten when updated, there are no Google services framework or app apks in there at all, yet my Google apps all work fine (not sure where the framework and apps are installed now). I have since rooted once again using KFU. I'm a bit techy, so I don't mind messing around a bit with my device, BUT....
I am getting a kindle fire for my mother -- I'm going to set it up with GO launcher, a bunch of sideloaded apps, and I would like to also install gmail, maps and gTalk without requiring root to be maintained, basically because I am then going to ship the device to her and will not want to continue to root and restore the google apps' functionality after every next update is pushed, because I would have to get her to do this while I walk her through the process over the phone, and this is not something that would make anybody happy.
So, I am hoping we can revive the discussion about how to install the Google services framework and apps without requiring root or at least in hopes that future updates will not break them. I am not opposed to rooting the device while I set it up, because I will want to install a permanent animated wallpaper, but I will unroot it so that Amazon Video will work before I send it off.
I have done quite a bit of searching through old threads, and there is not much talk about installing Google services and apps without root and so that updates don't screw with them. But I know it can be done, because it is working with mine.
I think this would be helpful to a LOT of people who are not yet ready to root and/or flash a new ROM.
If its the stock Kindle Fire interface you want, just root it and flash the MoDaCo rom. It comes prepackaged with gapps and gsf and (I think) you don't have to keep re-rooting .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21282484
Thanks, but no ROMs. Gotta be stock kf with launcher and google apps.
All, I have a few assumptions and questions to bounce off you knowledgeable folks, since this is a forum of ideas:
As I recall, Google Services Framework and various Google apps are installed as "system apps" by using adb to push them to the system/apps folder. At least, I think this was how I did it back in December when I first got my Kindle Fire (maybe there are other ways, I dunno). And as system apps they install on bootup if not already installed. But the downside to these being installed this way is that when Amazon pushes an update, the update wipes the contents of the system/apps folder and replaces all apps there, so that our Google Services Framework and other Google apps are lost when Amazon updates.
Am I correct so far?
I have at some point installed Titanium Backup and possibly converted my Google Services Framework and other Google apps to "user apps", because when I look in the list of installed apps in Titanium Backup, I see that my Google Services Framework and other Google apps are listed in white and not red which means that they are "user apps" and not "system apps" (forgive my memory here, middle age is set in, so I don't remember what I have done with Titanium Backup -- should have kept a log).
So my questions: Could my Google Services Framework and other Google apps be now immune to Amazon updates screwing with them simply because they are user apps and not system apps (possibly converted with Titanium Backup)? Is this the solution to having Google Services Framework and other Google apps immune to Amazon updates? Am I answering my own questions (lol) or am I possibly missing something here?
Also, my Google Market app updated itself to Play Store at some point around the time that Amazon pushed update 6.3 and in Titanium Backup it is listed in green instead of red or white, so that there is no option to convert to system or user app.... not sure what that is all about.
If anybody is actually taking the time to follow me here, I appreciate it. I am just trying to figure out a way to take a brand new kindle fire, temp root it, set it up with all sorts of neat stuff like GO launcher, live wallpaper and Google apps galore, then unroot so that Amazon video works, and give it away as a super cool Android Tab for only $200 that is immune to Amazon Updates breaking the Google apps. This is my goal, and I hope it is useful to others as well.
bump?

I think you are basically correct. Other than GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk, none of my google apps have stopped working after an Amazon update, and while I did nothing special to cause this, the speculation around here has been that updates to the apps caused them to get installed properly as user apps so they would keep working. What you may have done with titanium backup may have had the same effect, or it may have been coincidence (I will definitely have to check Titanium backup and see if I can do anything with GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter, because if I can get that to survive updates, I won't have much need to root anymore).
I will try this today as I am doing a similar thing and anything that can prevent the google app store from stopping will be much appreciated.
I've had my Fire since January. Never rooted but did install Google services framework the first week I got it. Pretty sure this is the thread I followed to do it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401486 I've sideloaded Gmail, Books, Reader, Google+, Google Music and Youtube. All have continued to work fine after 2 updates from Amazon. So far the only Google apps that haven't worked for me were Currents and Play Store. As long as those 2 apps aren't dealbreakers this would accomplish most of your goals. You can change the stock wallpaper and get it to stick by using he app Rotating Wallpaper (not sure if it supports live wallpapers). By doing these things and using GoLauncher my Fire does everything I want it to without rooting. One other thought... you might want to consider putting Dropbox on it with a folder you can put apps (and updates) in to share with your Mom. Good luck.
I just checked and Google Talk doesn't work doing it this way. Also, the app Rotating Wallpaper doesn't support live wallpapers.

You don't have to keep rooting? Are we sure about this? I have been reading about the MoDaCo ROMs and seeing the question asked, "will it still get the pushed Amazon updates?", and so far the answers have been yes. So it will get the amazon updates, which always break root and play store. Sure we could reflash the ROM but then it will get the update again, and on and on.
Are MoDaCo ROMs immune to Amazon updates? Are MoDaCo ROMs immune to Amazon updates breaking root and PlayStore?
I am really hoping that someone can confirm the above response, because if not, it will be a lesson learned about not believing the misinformation that some folks hastily post as a response to a question without actually addressing the question. I know he qualified it with "(I think)"... I should have paid more attention and confirmed that thought.
The reason I ask is because 6.3.1 was pushed to both mine and my mother's KFs a few nights ago just before I was ready to send it off to her for Mother's Day, and mine was bricked as a result, until I spent a couple of hours poking at it with KFU and adb to get it to properly boot and flash the updated ROM Amazon pushed. After that headache, I didn't want that to happen to my mother's with the next update in a month if I could not be around to fix it. So I decided to take the next step and load a ROM, MoDaCo GR8, on both mine first and then my mother's, and I already sent hers off yesterday, in haste. I am reading today that what was implied above may not be true -- that MoDaCo ROMs do get the Amazon updates and when Amazon pushes the next update, her KF could lose root and Play Store at best and be bricked at worst.
Without root, how can you mount system as rw?

I can tell you that I flashed MoDaCo GR8 before the recent push of 6.3.1 and my KF was not affected at all by the update. I wouldn't have known that there had been an update if I hadn't read about it here. I have also read 3 or 4 post by other GR8 users indicating that they hadn't been affected either. I read the entire MoDaCo thread and I am pretty sure that the developer made a comment in it somewhere that he was incorporating something that he hoped would prevent the auto updates from messing things up. Based upon my experience it looks like he was successful.
Now for the disclaimer, just because MoDaCo wasn't affected this time doesn't guarantee that it won't be affected by future updates.

[CLOSED][TUT] Google Play Store / Amazon AppStore Swapper - HDX 7"

Closed - Go here... [MOD] HDXPosed : signature check, play store, downloads, wallpaper fix...
This is the final piece needed for a working Amazon / Google tablet. After I installed this, I stopped using my ROM slots and I'm done flashing for now. These are my recommended steps for working Google Apps + AppStore. Please ask any questions within the appropriate thread...
A Kindle Fire HDX 7" running 13.1.1.0
Rooted your kindle using [ROOT] Rooting tutorial - hdx 7" 13.3.1.0 by Faznx92
Installed SafeStrap 3.70 for HDX 7" by Hashcode and are now running on a ROM-Slot.
And a working Google Apps + Gmail from Android Cowboy's tutorial (using my suggested method in link )
leaving your Google Play Store crashing, this is the guide for you!
(For an alternate explanation, see evilgrin98's steps in post #12 )
Finally, if you want a working Google Play Store *OR* the ability to to swap between Amazon AppStore and Google Play store:
Make a nandroid backup. The installer is 3 lines and has no error checking. It works with any single adb device install.
If the installer doesn't work, you'll need to figure out adb yourself and modify the install_to_kindle.bat file or follow evilgrin98's manual install process in post #12.
Uncompress attached and run the install_to_kindle.bat on windows and it'll swap to Google Play Store on first install.
Future swaps should be done by running /data/local/tmp/amazon.sh or cm10.sh to switch back and forth.
This can be done in adb shell, terminal or Script Manager.
Use Script Manager addon, SMWidgets, to install scripts as a widget for easy switching.
What these scripts do:
Installs Cpasjuste's service.odex hack + DownloadProvider apks pulled from CM10.1 (install.sh)
Run cm10.sh to switch to working CM10 Google Play Store (copying Cpasjuste's hacked + CM10.1 files)
Run amazon.sh to switch to working Amazon AppStore (copying back Amazon service.odex & DownloadProvider apks)
What to expect after running install_to_kindle.bat, install.sh or cm10.sh:
Your device will reboot
Use your Amazon Home Launcher to access Kindle, FreeTime, Lending Library, AppStore
Use your 3rd party Launcher (Nova, Apex, etc) for your Google Play Store Apps
Your Google PlayStore will be functional for downloads and updates
Your Amazon AppStore will queue downloads
What to expect after running amazon.sh:
Your device will reboot
Use your Amazon Home Launcher to access Kindle, FreeTime, Lending Library, AppStore
Use your 3rd party Launcher (Nova, Apex, etc) for your Google Play Store Apps
Your Amazon AppStore will be functional for downloads
Your Google Play Store will crash if you try to download anything in it. You'll need to run cm10.sh to get Play Store to stop crashing and download your queued request.
Alex's Use:
Stay in Amazon mode most of the time, unless you want to update or download new content from the Google Play Store
Note:
This won't work from Cpasjuste flashable gapps or ROM as he removes too many Amazon components.
This should work for 8.9" HDX if someone sends me a modified & unmodified services.odex.
This won't work with Ptiwee / CrashThump / GSLEON3's fix, unless you change step 2 to only remove the DTC file. Otherwise, it's just the same as Cpasjuste's flashable gapps and removes too many Amazon components
I provided this to the community because of the contributions of the following people who I owe a super big thanks to...
jcase for the root exploit! This Kindle HDX community wouldn't exist without his contributions.
Moronig for finding the memory signature on HDX 7" -- WTG!
slayer615 for rolling it up the exploit & root into a batch file -- rock on!
Faznx92 for writing an excellent root guide & providing regular support!
Hashcode for his awesome SafeStrap... Without it, I wouldn't bother to go further than root...
Android Cowboy for his Google Play store tutorial. I wouldn't have had my perfect setup without trying his guide first...
Cpasjuste for the services.odex & downloadprovider apks. Swapping stores wouldn't be possible without his tutorial and binaries.
Stericson for Kindle Free -- working widgets still work for HDX! Thanks!
Ptiwee, CrashThump & GSLEON3 for inspiration. Keep up with the contributions to the community! You're amazing!

Interesting. If we can get the same thing going as (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591547) for the 7" then we could pretty much forget safestrap until we have some real roms to flash.
Edit: You are awesome... now the hdx 7" has everything - Or close enough for now.

Easy enough See post #3 now...
FYI, on my personal HDX 7" 16GB, I'm running my fully working Gapps + Amazon w/ working Store swapper on stock and doing dev in ROM-Slot-1, keeping my nandroid backups offline.
Progress should be fast....

Op & Post 3 runs on windows to achieve the goal. Op + Post 3 will be merged depending on free time and interest.
You're welcome to try post 3 while I work out the kinks, as long as you have safestrap and your own backup to revert to, nothing here should be able to brick you on your HDX 7".

Post 3 completely wiped... while I do have a fully functional kindle thanks to Android Cowboy and other tutorials, replicating and supporting it to work consistently is more time I care to devote...
So OP is about a play store swapping, assuming other people's tutorials worked for you. See link in OP for my recommended way of installing Google Apps. I'm not providing support for it, as it's just a comment in someone else's tutorial.
edit - 2014-01-01 - answering question
BTW, I do have a working gmail. In fact, everything is working so well for me that I no longer use ROM Slots and am just running out of my stock slot on my 16GB Kindle HDX 7"... This script was the final piece I needed to have a happy Kindle HDX 7".

I confirm it works, but Jesus
First thing's first: thank you for all your hard work. I confirm that this is working, and it's exactly what I wanted: Google Play Store with all Amazon Prime services in tact. Kudos!
My issue, which I'm trying to help with here, is that the instructions were off and vague almost every step of the way. I'll try and return to flesh out the below post, but in the meantime:
1) Use Safestrap to backup the device I had running; the backup was sufficiently large on my device that I couldn't run a rom slot parallel to it.
2) Use Safestrap to install the provided clean rom and SuperUser ZIP. Then wipe the device.
3) Boot into the rooted fresh ROM and install ES File Explorer with SU permission.
4) Follow Android Cowboy's instructions to install a Google account and the Play Store. (I attempted to use the KindleFree app you referenced and found it mostly broken and useless. Not recommended.)
5) Install Script Manager.
6) Download swap 0.0.2. The bat file did not function as expected, so I unpack the contents from "pushme" into /data/local/tmp/.
7) Use ES File Explorer to set the permissions for *.sh per the broken bat file (755).
8) Use Script Manager to run install.sh as a "script/executable": flag as SU with the argument "-c". The device will reboot.
9) Use Script Manager to run CM10.sh: flag as SU with no argument.
At this point, the Play Store will download and install apps, and at least the Amazon Prime video service continues to function as expected without having to continuously swap app stores. I'll play around with it tonight and tomorrow and return either with more specific instructions or any issues I discover.
Thanks again!

Glad to be of help! I'm vague because I did this over a course of three weeks, so I can't remember most of my steps for certain. KindleFree is required first, as I've done Android Cowboy's tutorial by itself and produced all sorts of errors as many in that thread had experienced.
Sorry to hear the script didn't work quite as expected, feel free to add more 'belt and suspenders' to it, as it was purposefully left bare bones...
evilgrin98,
Thanks for your contribution to Alex's efforts. You guys make a great team. Your method worked for me. I wasn't able to get Alex's working. I noticed some failure text at the end of text, but was unable to copy it.
It was tough following the directions because I am not familiar with the lingo. However, it was good enough for me to figure out and get PlayStore working. This means I can search, download and install apps.
I'm not sure how Amazon is suppose to work now. I don't have access to the Amazon Kindle App, Amazon App Store, Chrome browser opens into a black screen and won't go to any web page and I am unable to get live wallpapers. I've tried Stunt's fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42181794&postcount=75) which is suppose to work on HDX, but I haven't been able to get it to work.
My question is how do I get Amazon to work? That's why I liked this script because of the ability to have both stores. I wasn't sure about how to use amazon.sh or cm10.sh. Also, you wouldn't have a fix for live wallpapers, would you?
Thanks again guys for a job well done. I really appreciate your efforts.

After running install.sh, you Amazon.sh or cm10.sh to switch between stores.
For working Kindle and Appstore, you'll need to use the Amazon launcher aka home. You can only download new content while the Amazon Appstore is active.
Live wallpapers isn't something I wanted, so I've never found the answer....

Default kindle reading app
And it sounds like the amazon os kindle reading app is a no go right. Many other people are sideloading an older version of the apk and preventing the google play store from updating it.
"After running install.sh, you Amazon.sh or cm10.sh to switch between stores." I used your script, but installed using Evil's method. I guess I am not understanding how to run those files. Do I place your script folder or those files in the Kindle download area and use one of the scripts to switch between stores from there? I was going to do it in script manager, but it looked as though I would be re-installing the script.
For working Kindle and Appstore, you'll need to use the Amazon launcher aka home. You can only download new content while the Amazon Appstore is active. After reading this I used the Amazon launcher, but wasn't able to use the app store. It will just flicker and not open. I can go to the Amazon store, but can't use the Amazon app or Kindle reader on the Amazon launcher or any of my other launchers. It's not like I purchase a bunch from the app store, but just curious why it isn't working. I do have Kindle books and just wanting to know how to get it back to working. I will try installing an older version of the app and see if it will work.
Live wallpapers isn't something I wanted, so I've never found the answer.... I understand. No problem, just asking in case you had them working on your kindle.
By the way, since you are now working off your stock rom, did you delete SafeStrap or keep it?

I did find those files you mentioned. When I tried to install them, I got the error message, There was a problem parsing the package. So, that was a no go. I will have to see what's going on with that.

Ok, when I did that I was able to get to the Amzn Store, but the Kindle app is still not working. I am trying to figure out how to install it. I've deleted the old one off so I could install the older version, but I'm having some troubles at the moment. Thanks for the help.

The Play Store just un-rooted my HD8/deleted SuperSU, w/out my permission - WTF?? ?

I'm angry/confused - has anyone else had this happen to their device?
Last night, I sat down and rooted one of my 2017 HD8 tablets, following the damn-amazing Experimental Software Root method as recently uncovered and shared with us by @diplomatic. I then installed SuperSU (from the damn Play store!) to take the root from temporary to permanent.
I spent the last 24 hours FINALLY being able to use my Fire tablet as a semi-solid/functional personal computing device, finally able to really setup the device to perform as I need it to, and I've been very happy with how everything turned out.
Well, I just came back to my desk to find a message from "Play Protect," (a feature/service I ALWAYS turn off in Play Store settings, on all of my devices):
App Removed by Play Protect: SuperSU
This app can allow unauthorized access to your data or device.
(see images attached).
I checked and no longer have root status. Also, now I can't install any .apk files whatsoever. WTF??!
I downloaded SuperSU... FROM THE PLAY STORE...! The app is listed and available for installation from/by the Play Store (see attached photo).
So, I guess now I will just re-root and hope in the future Google chills the F out/gets their creepy little hands out of my device/data. Maybe I should freeze the Play Store/Play Services? I just wanted to see if anyone else had ever had this happen to them/if there is a recommended solution. SO annoying!!! ??‼?‼??
(pardon my grumpiness/I feel a little bit better now, post vent ?)
Ok - I'll stop whining now... ?
I was able to recover root by simply reinstalling "SuperSU" from the Play Store. Hopefully it was just a fluke and everything will stay where it should be.

I had a similar experience today when updating some apps I got from the Google Play Store. During the updates, it deleted my SuperSU with no warning or asking permission. Luckily, it didn't affect my root as far as I can tell. I too got SuperSU from the Play Store. It is DEFINITELY annoying !
Two things when installing play store. Always good to 1) immediately turn off auto updates the second you sign in. 2) turn off play protect.
As soon as play services updates, all apps will start to update if they are allowed. So make sure to look at 'my apps', and make sure none are stuck in que. If so, tap 'stop all'.
I am having the exact same issue. Nothing seems to be working no matter what I disable. it keeps removing supersu
Has anyone tried anything that works?

Just don't update from the play store unless you downloaded it there and if you do update, do so manually by downloading standalone apk and installing it through documents or a root explorer. I'm trying to work on a fix for this version in some form. We can't flash it unless you use the modified version on the stock rom thread because we aren't quite 64 bit yet. Flashing the standard zip will bootloop. So I've been experimenting with a totally manual install, including rooting the boot.img so when the apk is installed it doesn't perform the auto install embedded into it. So far, though I don't really know yet, it appears to be a success. One of the issues, I think, was the installation of the 64 bit library file. Either it install it, but in the regular lib folder, or doesn't install it at all or does install but doesn't set proper permissions (guesswork). So I added the necessary files by unpacking and repacking the boot.img. This is not a final version.I'm, but If anyone is interested in trying it out I can upload the boot.img.
