[Q] Having issue upgrading =/ - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just downloaded Football's stock rom, thank you btw. I followed all the directions I could find regarding flashing.
Downloaded
Renamed to PD15IMG.zip
Copied to root of SD card
Booted into Hboot... now here is where the problem starts.
Hboot comes up normally at first with the regular options on the screen
after a few seconds a screen comes up that looks like it is looking for the update.
then it gives a messages about
PD15DIAG.zip no image
PD15DIAG.nbh (or some such) no image or wrong image
PD15IMG.zip loading... ...
a blue bar comes up on the upper right of the screen that seems to indicate loading. after about a min or so the bar finishes and it just goes back to the main screen.
It doesn't seem like it has done anything at this point and rebooting just takes it back to the normal version of the phone.
Am I missing a step? I never see an option on screen that says press something to upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Possibly a corrupted download. Did you check the version? Is it possible you're already on 2.3.4?

Thanks for the reply,
As of now my Software information is as follows:
Android Version - 2.2.1
Baseband Version - 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version - 2.6.32.21 - g899d047 [email protected] #1
Tue Oct 26 16:10:01 CST 2010
Build Number - 1.17.531.2 CL277036 release-keys
Software Number - 1.17.531.2
Browser Version - WebKit 3.1
I'll give re downloading a try and see if that helps. Just out of curiosity are the messages about PD15DIAG.zip ect not found normal?
I'll post my results again after work today.

ok, just tried to re download the file from the link Football provided and it seems to be broken. I keep getting a file not found error after waiting the 60 seconds.
Would anyone happen to have a mirror link?

The link in this thread works...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174344&page=1

Thanks to the both of you. It was indeed a corrupted download. The link provided did work this time, even though it was the same as I used before.
Maybe the site was doing a maintenance or some such.
In any case, copied the files over again and it prompted for the upgrade and it seems to be working well.
Thanks again

Nexus One Solution"failed to verify whole-file signature"when updating to gingerbread
Important Notice :
Do this at YOUR OWN RISK, I don't give any guaranty if something happened to your phone , also store all of your data and memorize all of your previous apps
Hi Guys,
I had this problem and it made me mad cause i was so exited to run gingerbread on my Nexus one(THIS SOLUTION WORKS FOR UNROOTED DEVICES)
PLEASE BACKUP FIRST CAUSE NOT ALL THE DATA WILL BE RESTORED USING YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT .... SO PLZ BACKUP BEFORE DOING ANY STEPS
The solution of this problem is long but it is worth it and it is totally safe:
"Through the steps to know the current version you are at : just go to settings ===> about phone "
First Step:
You will have to go to the stock rom(without any google updates) using passimg.zip
Code:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-27237-gbe746fb
[email protected] #1
Build Number: FRG33
After You finish this step the mobile is like the new one from the factory, It will ask you to provide the gmail account but don't do it this time just skip it , you will enter it once at last when gingerbread is on your device
Second Step:
after that you will update (using update.zip method) using the second link rename the file 656099b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip to update.zip (thanks to efrant)
After the gingerbread update , it is recommend to do a factory reset : setting ==> Privacy ==> Factory Reset
When the device restarts just enter your google account and all your apps should be restored ( you will find a notification telling you x applications restored )
Et Voila it is done
Code:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-59423-g08607d74
[email protected] #1
Build Number: GRI40
ADDITIONAL information for people who don't know to use passim.zip and update.zip

then it is done
2-update.zip

i- AFTER THE PHONE RESTART ALWAYS REMEMBER TO DELETE THE OLD UPDATE.ZIP FILE TO PUT THE NEW ONE FOR THE NEXT UPDATE according to the above steps
Hope this post is helpful for some people and if there is any missing steps or mistakes i would like if someone help me with an advice
Download links:(only the link of the stock rom i had to upload it cause it isn't available anymore on the google servers)
-stock ROM "FRG33"==> http://www.multiupload.com/NTA9DANZGC
-from FRG33 to GRI40 ==> http://android.clients.google.com/p...b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip (thanks to efrant)

-Update FRG83G to GRI40 ==>http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-passion-GRI40-from-FRG83G.81304b2d.zip
Your "second step", parts 1, 2, 3, 4 can be simplified into one step. This file: http://android.clients.google.com/p...b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip updates FRG33 to GRI40, and it is also mentioned in the sticky...
1.f- the phone will automatically read the passimg.zip ( will load and then check it) after it is check it will ask you to press volume up to confirm the updates

turn off the device and open it using vol down + power button
and leave it for a while in the Hboot menu it will automatically load the passimg.zip file ... you will see it checking and loading it ... after that you will get the question about do u want to update? then you will press the vol up button

I have same problem. In my opinion problem is with special kernel from Vodafone. See it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933126
After many hours fighting with my N1 I give up and unlocked bootloader. After that I make update using fastboot without any problem. Now I have 2.3.3
The new Passimg did the trick!
Automatically updated the passimg.
Reboot
updated the update.zip.
Now running 2.3!
From branded dutch vodafone to 2.3!!
Many thnx!
ok seems that the link of the passimg isn't good
i will re-upload the file again and i will provide the new link
LOLz.
The file I uploaded was the same zip. I just renamed it to passimg.zip before uploading (because that seems to be a common failing point)... xD

[Q] stuck on 3.01

I´m a UK user and my A500 is at version 3.01 using build Acer_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1 .
I tried to update to 3.1 using file Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1.zip from the xda list supplied by member vache and followed the instructions there to flash the file using the standard recovery procedure. It started to load OK from the external SD card, listing update text messages on the screen but then it stopped loading after just a couple of seconds and displayed the android figure with a triangle containing an exclamation mark (!). I then managed to restart the tablet and got back into version 3.01.
Does anyone have any ideas if I did something wrong in the procedure ?
Thanks

Was the file decrypted first, or not?
Trying to update to 3.1
Member vache said files from him were already decrypted, or so I thought. Anyway, I've tried to locate the Acer decrypter program but cannot find it. If I can find the decrypter I'll try that. Can anyone point me to it please ?

WiFi Shows Error No Network NEED HELP

I have a AT&T Version of the Nexus S. I updated to 2.3.6 and it killed my radio signal, not as in low, as in an X above the signal bars. So i then went on to pushing the old radio back to the phone. When i pushed the old radio, not only did it not fix my signal issue. It has killed my WiFi, under settings the WiFi just says error. Been without a phone for almost two weeks trying to fix this any help would be great!
Here is my phone info as under settings:
Model Number: Nexus S
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I920XXKB3
Kernel Version: [email protected]#14
Build Number: GRK39F
Thanks!
tried others radio ? KF1 KB3 KD1 ...etc ?
WIFI error , i usually experienced that when i flash new kernel , so ...
you may solved it by flash other kernel

Yup have pushed multiple radios, with no luck. In not sure about the Kernel unless it was updated with 2.3.6 roll out. I haven't updated it, just driving me nuts.
well ...
if i were you , i would try wipe and format everything on the phone , of course , back up first , and then flash whole new stock ROM ... try it out

obviously your kernel is not a stock one ...
I've run into this problem flashing an anykernel script kernel separately from a rom, as in flashed rom, booted up, then cwn again for kernel. Instead of all in one cwm session.

Flash the KB3 Radio because I have AT&T
If you don't have Root explorer Go into the web via wifi : 4shared.com
Download 'Root Explorer v.2.16"
Open it accept super user request
Go into EFS File And
Long Press/Move To Root Of SD the Following Files:
Nv.log
Nv_data.bin
Nv_data.bin.md5
Reboot phone and your Phone will be back to normal =]
Btw even if u move the files to Root Of SD ..once u reboot ull have them back in the EFS file and now in Root Of SD. But "REMEMBER" Flash KB3 Radio First! . Can't find it? go into Nexus S Development. .. scroll down til u see the Radio Thread
=]
Update: Just Noticed ur already on KB3 ... flash UCKD1 then follow the Steps.. then flash KB3 Again ^_^

Having a similar issue. I got stuck with a bootloop and even after flashing the latest stable clockwork recovery and CM7 release it still would not exit the boot loop. i wiped the cache/dalvik...still no bueno. i decided to wipe the entire device.
i was able to reinstall all my apps that i needed but the wifi status remains listed at "error".
i rebooted the phone, even tried the steps mentioned previously:
*backed up the efs_backup.bat / efs_backup.sh by running adb pull /efs
*using Root Explorer, i didn't have the "Nv.log" file in my /efs folder. I was able to move the Nv_data.bin & Nv_data.bin.md5 files to the /sdcard folder.
I rebooted the device but the issue remains.
Which radio version do I have because the ones i saw on the guide does not list an I9020XXJK8..unless the remaining characters after i9020 are supposed to equal one of the I9020a/I9020t/I9023 versions....

i tried another restore of the backup from a recent date and i was able to get back into my phone but the issue remains.

did the missing file fix the issue?
no it did not. i tried flashing the radio for my i9020xxjk8 from the xda site. it began to install but then it said installation aborted...there was no reason given as to why it did that. but my phone still works normally and the wifi is still not working
i woke up this morning and my phone was stuck in a boot loop. removed the battery 3 times with no success. i also tried a restore of the boot from a backup but it said it couldnt find the system.cache.img and failed. i then just booted it into recovery mode and installed the older OS version (2.3.6) and i was able to get back into the phone. however the phone is now seen as being unrooted so i have to re-root the device so i can properly run cm7.

[Q] Stucked on Samsung Screen CAN put in Download mode

I tried searching but not really sure what it is I need.
Histiory:
I installed Zune on my computer and hooked my Windows 7 Focus up for the 1st time.
While in Zune it told me updates were available. I clicked on update,it went through all the steps, but when it got to restarting your phone thats where it stayed.
After 13 hours I disconnected the phone, and now I just have the white Samsung logo, although I CAN get into download mode and hard reset
My issue is what am I supposed to download, and how? I'm as noob as you get,but hopefully I can follow simple instructions.
I found a thread on here about firmware revision, but when I click on that it wanted me to install iVid,or something like that, and not even sure what firmware I was supposed to be using.
Under the battery it shows Rev 1.4
Please, can someone help me restore my phone?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, well since you can put it in download mode, you can install MAGLDR (custom bootloader) and flash a custom rom.

I really appreciate the help.
I'm a little concerned about putting anything custom because of my lack of technical knowledge. I'm afraid if I encounter any issues in the future,it wont be easily corrected with custom roms.
Does Zune then work with a custom Rom,or is it no longer needed?
Can anyone provide the factory firmware and instructions on how to download and install ?

Ok thanks. I guess I didn't read it well enough,as this is the thread that I did search ,but wasn't sure as to what link to use,and when I cliick on the links I got this:
http://lnx.lu/5yD, and I didn't think that was right as stated in the very 1st line of my original post. I guess I should have linked that thread and asked the question form there as which to use,and if I was supposed to be on some page for "final torrent"
okay, let's go slower then:
- went to the link with the factory firmware
- there are three roms provided there; since you said that your focus is a rev 1.4, the correct rom is the one labeled WP7_PRODUCT_4K (1.4 HW), in other words, the rom named "Samsung i917 Focus firmware UCJK3 ATT USA 4K"
- clicked the link, multiupload says that the file is no longer available
- went back and checked the other two just because... all gone... figures, HEH
- performed a web search for the term "Samsung i917 Focus firmware UCJK3 ATT USA 4K" (see the trend here?)
- while most of the mirrored links are dead, there are still mirrors alive and well, as noticed on the very first page of results
- one of these is stored on depositfiles, the link: http://depositfiles.com/files/oimdoqz1r
- the other is on zippyshare, http://www7.zippyshare.com/v/14086695/file.html
now your mission is:
- download the file
- follow enderpsp's guide, here, again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17092804#post17092804
- if successful, treat yourself to a nice drink
- SAVE THE FILE in its original package and store it in a cool, dry location for future use
...and that's why i said that search works. because it does
cheers and good luck
ps. there's a thanks button in this forum for a reason

I agree,as long as you know what your searching for. When you find threads with broken links ,as I did,it makes a noob even more confused then when they started the search. See 1st line of my original post.
I'm just a guy that had a working phone and when it went to update, killed my phone.
I had no idea the rom you posted is what I needed,,,,so again thanks:good:.

now your mission is:
- download the file
- follow enderpsp's guide, here, again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4#post17092804
- if successful, treat yourself to a nice drink
- SAVE THE FILE in its original package and store it in a cool, dry location for future use

Now I'll explain what happened when I tried the above:
When you follow enderpsp's guide he states:
You will not need the "Samsung WP7 Flash Program" as it is included in the ROM (Samsung-i917-Focus-firmware-UCJK2-ATT-USA.exe).
Install Samsung Mobile USB Drivers v5.2
Unfortunately no instruction for a noob on how to install the USB Drivers:crying:
Next it states to:
"1. Copy "Samsung-i917-Focus-firmware-UCJK2-ATT-USA.exe" in a new folder and run it (Install). After running you will see these files:
signed_CSC_Cetus_ATT_i917ATTJK2.csc
signed_eboot_Cetus_ATT.eb0
signed_pda_Cetus_ATT.nb0
signed_phone_Cetus_ATT.bin
WP7 Downloader Ver 7.21 for All Device (Publish version).exe
WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.05_for_Retail_Device_(Product _Force_Select_MD5_X).exe
Then it goes on to state:
"The fhash program you need to run is
WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.05_for_Retail_Device_(Product _Force_Select_MD5_X).exe"
Unfortunately WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.05_for_Retail_Device_(Product _Force_Select_MD5_X).exe is not part of the download.
The flash program you are being told to run isn't there:crying:
Again very confusing for a noob (see the trend here?)
So currently here is where it stands. Don't ask me how,but after more hours spent on this then I can remember,I manage to restore the phone... YEAA !!
but when I connect the phone to the computer or just turn it on it tells me there are updates for the phone. Running these updates is exactly what caused the problem originally,so now I don't know if I should try again,or just leave a working phone alone?
But again,I really do thank you for your time and support.Yor help is what kept me going at trying to resolve my issue.

Yes,I did,but then it tells me there is a update. Updating the phone through Zune is what started my original problem.
Plus I'm not really sure what the update really is for.

what exactly does the sbf file restore?

am i using the correct file?
if i am, why would my update file from enclair to froyo keep coming up as corrupt and be saying error status 7?
i think im stuck with enclair and cant get back to froyo.
i do have a nandroid saved that was from the specs listed. but for some reason i cant find a way to get it to recover.
also i cant get 2nd init to work at all. but i did have bootmenu 0.6 installed properly. though for some reason my SD card doesnt want to mount.
ive got a headache. can anyone point me in the right direction? thank you
