Just Rooted - Xperia Play General

Hi Guys,
Just rooted using the one click method v3, all worked fine!!, so a big thank you to the creator!!
I have installed titanium backup and have disabled the system update program and removed a couple of games that were on it which I couldn't remove before!! These were 2 of the main reasons I rooted!!
I just wanted to ask if there are any other programs that can tweek the system to create more space on the built-in storage and free-up ram etc!? also can I install/move stuff (apps/games) to the SD card? The reason I ask is because the phone says I can 52mb of storage memory left! I kept getting warnings before I rooted!!
Thanks in advance

Yes

The app link2sd is the way to go now you have route. Do a google on how to use.
Basically you add a second partition of say 1/2gb to you memory card just for link2sd. you move everything back to internal memory, then can 'link' to sd. Moves more apps to sd and frees up loads of room. Long to set up but once done should have loads of space from there on in!

If you don't want to partition, DroidSail app2sd can move quite a lot of apps

Thanks for the information, I have moved some apps across with app2sd, do I need to do anything else? Do I need to delete them off the main memory? Thanks

Haven't used that app dude but you should be fine and it'll have moved them from internal memory to the sd card.

[Q] Apps2SD?

Is there anyway to move apps to SD? I know they took out the feature in ICS, but maybe via an app or something? 8GB is pretty small when you take away a gig for a rom slot...

better yet, has anyone figured out if you can flip flop the internal and external sd locations so the phone thinks your external sd card is the primary? I know this was possible on the X2 and the RAZR's.
I have the memory switch .zip file, but no way to install it on my rooted Droid RAZR M
I was curious how difficult would out be to just rename the internal storage from sd card to internal storage? If that is possible then we could just rename external to sd card then we should be able to move apps to the card easily.

Tried an app from the market and it seems working: GL to SD. need root access

nah. tried renaming them last week or so and it not only didnt work, the damn things renamed themselves upon reboot. im pretty pissedf about the memory on this phone cuz the phone itself is pretty snappy.
Dang I guess Motorola has this phone on lock down. I used my EVO 4g to copy songs over to my SD card and once I inserted it back in and tried to mount it, it kept saying blank, so I rebooted my phone and it showed up. If I wasn't as smart as I am I would have probably formatted the damn thing lmao I was wondering if they did that as a minor precaution to people trying to hack the phone with something on the SD card, but then again I'm sure if they did a reboot wouldn't have made it show up then.

So were you able to move anything other than game data to your ext sd? It let me move dropbox, but nothing else showed up on its list of transferable files.

[Q] Confused about internal storage

Ok so hopefully somebody can set me straight here. My M comes with 8gb of internal storage. But I have run into app space issues and have read that only 4gb is accessible. If I'm correct that's disappointing. However it feels like less than 4gb is accessible to me. I deleted a couple more apps today, but here is my current storage usage (screenshot). I'm rooted on JB and have Titanium Backup so maybe that will allow me to transfer apps from internal storage to sd card. I have not yet tried it on the M and from the couple of posts I've read it may or may not be possible. I do not have a developer edition M. Which is what I read that you need. Is this the case? All my pics, vids, and music are already on the 32gb sd card. It's just apps taking up space on internal. What are my options for continually running out of storage so quickly?
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
Example: The screenshot says I have 550mb available... Which isn't much at all... But I'm trying to install a 43.5mb app right now and I'm getting an internal storage warning. So my problem is two parts. 1, can't use the full 8gb and 2, can't even use what little space it says I have.

Do you have safe strap installed with an active slot? If so, use your root browser and delete the ss folder and in sdcard0, the safestrap folder which contains the ROM slot information. That should put you back around where you should be. Don't touch the TWRP folders and you will be fine to continue using safe strap.

I did install safestrap last week intending on loading a custom ROM, but ended up not feeling like I was experienced enough to do so at this time so I deleted the app. Would deleting the app have been enough to solve that issue?

You can also use directory bind to bind the data to the sdcard1 path. Works like a charm.

Not exactly sure what you mean. Is directory bind an app? Would this be necessary if I have already deleted safestrap for the time being?

if it has 8gig why does it only let you use half of it..and what's the purpose of the other 4gig left... because as far as I know when you install apps it takes up the space of the 4gig that you you.
Directory bind can get you in some trouble if you are not careful. Delete one side on accident, you delete the other's content as well. Directory bind just links two locations and basically acts like a forwarding service.
Back to Safestrap. Yes, Safestrap partitions your usable memory for the other operating system file. Its just like dual booting a computer, you don't have shared memory between the two. (As far as internal memory is concerned.)
Did you delete the folders? It should fix your issue. Check your storage stats in stock settings afterwards to confirm.

Deleting the app alone will not get rid of the partition, in my experience. Reboot your phone to see if its gone too. The folders are /ss and /storage/sdcard0/Safestrap. You could also delete the TWRP folders if they are present, since you do not need Safestrap any longer.
Let me know if this solves your issue.

I don't seem to have either of those folders when I tried to search for them with root explorer. So maybe I didn't do anything when I opened up safestrap when I had it.
And to clarify, sdcard0 is internal storage and sdcard1 is the actual sd card correct?

Yes sir. That is correct. Did you make a slot when you opened safe strap? Normally that eats up memory like crazy.

I probably downloaded it then left it alone while I researched a bit and never ended up doing anything. I'll move some stuff over from sdcard0 if I have any pics or music still on there to free up a little space or maybe try one of those complex work arounds to free up some of that extra 4gb eventually.

(Q) how to increase internal memory

hay there... anyone know how to increase galaxy y internal memory? i want to download many game... please
Sent from my Lenovo A390_ROW using xda app-developers app
its impossible to increase internal memory - its like a hard drive you cant make it bigger without putting a new one in
you can free up internal memory by linking apps to a 2nd ext sd partion
search how to use link2sd and create a 2nd ext partition on your sd card

It is impossible to increase internal memory from the phone. Instead you can borrow some from sd card.
Your phone must be rooted.
Make a second partition in your sd card and use private apps such as link2sd, app2sd, etc to move the apps to that second partition.
Also set the install location to sd card.
And then start installing the games you want.
Feel free to PM me. I will always be there to help.
Press thanks if I have helped you.

look, there are certain apps which can be moved to the SD card. Some cannot. Some will work only with partial features when moved to SD. If the option to move to SD card is greyed out, u simply can't.

thats native moving to sd which isnt recommended - for example if you nativally move a widget to sd it will not work
- all apps can actually be linked to sd including widgets so that they act like they are on internal storage but actually they are on sd card hense the term linked
there are many different methods and scripts to do this - just search

eg link2sd (requires second ext sd card partition)
just do a search - theres loads of guides and methods in the general section
Thanks but i have tried link2sd and i don't know how to create 2nd partition !!!
I heard after creating 2nd partition life span of sd card decreases !!!
So is it safe ???

Almost every apps use internal as storage space . Some games like GTA3 or so ( which need extra data ) uses sd as their data storage . So Facebook CAN NOT BE moved to SD-Card but you can link and by that , can free some internal memory

OK.........Right

Out of storagespace.

today I went to update my apps and am getting storage room errors.. how can I be full ? I downloaded one of those app2sd programs to move some space around and still have storage problems.
What can I do to clean this thing up? Would rooting it help manage storage better?

It's tough with a 16gb phone. Those a2sd apps only move the app not the data afaik.
You may have to keep some stuff on a pc till needed.
I think I remember something about an app that moves more than most but forget name.
Maybe Google your issue--
EDIT: This is what I forgot and found after Googling--needs root
