Screen whine ? - Acer Iconia A500

I recently purchased an a501 and I noticed for the first time today that it has a faint high pitched whine coming from the back of the unit, most noticeably from the speaker cutouts. It gets louder when plugged into the charger, but is still extremely faint. The noise is not present when using headphones, and adjusting the brightness or turning off the auto brightness makes no difference. I originally thought maybe the speakers were picking up something, maybe from a bad ground, but the noise is extremely consistent. it never changes pitch and only gets slightly louder when plugged in.

I have tried a factory reset hoping it was a bad driver install or something , but it is still there.

Don't notice it on my 501. Could be an issue with a somewhat faulty speaker connection internally.
Could be RF interference also. Have you taken it to a different location other than your home?
This is a judgment call on whether to keep it or return it for replacement. So if you can live with it, keep it. If it disturbs you, then replace it.

Internal RF noise or audio gain set to high in software. What rom and kernel are you running. I would exchange.

I noticed the whine when charging, its very strange that when i scroll a web page the whine gets louder and quiets when i stop.
Never noticed the whine while not charging, in am not sure it comes from the speakers, if i place my ear on the device i can hear it basically everywhere.

Change it. It shouldn't be doing that. Your new post confirms this.
Probably, something internally, is not shielded correctly. As I stated somewhat earlier as with improper connections and RF interference. But it seems the RF, is coming from your tab. I'll bet, somebody forgot to shield something.
Probably, your tab will not be effected mechanically. Probably last for several years.
But that noise, if it bothers you, is abnormal.

I really, really doubt it's a software error. High-pitched interference that goes away when headphones are plugged in, ie. when the speaker assembly is turned off? That actually reminds me of these age-old audio cards built into PC motherboards 6-10 years ago, they almost always produced this high-pitched interference sound that went immediately away if you switched to a proper discrete audio card, without changing any other component or software package in the system.
Nope, I do have to agree with posters above: there's likely shielding missing somewhere or perhaps it's gotten loose and that's why you hear that interference. Such an issue cannot be fixed with software, but it also won't damage anything, ie. it's not dangerous and it won't cause any other damage to your tablet. Backup everything and take it to warranty repair, explain the issue in clear terms and ask for a replacement.

What is strange, it reaches 80% load noise disappears.

The noise does not disappear if i plug in the earphones, perhaps if i stuck them in my ears and play something i wont hear the noise, but its stil there.
My girlfriend has already started complaining about the noise when i charge at night by the bed

On my tablet A501 there is this noise. In Romania it is hard to find service stations, to be performant and serious.
There are two service stations approved by the importer.

Well, I can. I have absolutely NO noise whatsoever, when charging or when not charging.

Are you charging it when you hear the noise. The charger's transformer whines when in use. This is common on almost every transformer. The a500 charger is lowd! I can hear it across the room.

I have no noise at all out of mine.. If it did it would have been exchanged .
I think this is caused by what electronic people call dirty dc voltage..can be anything from a grounding issue. bad capacitor on the electronics to a trace on the silicon boards to close together. and on and on..
I WOULD SAY send it back or take it in and exchange it .
Noise bothers me very badly i even trained my spouse you YELL AT ME Silently when she is upset about something .

Frankly, aside from this problem with buzzing, tablet works very well. I think they send back to Orange and to come worse than now.
I sent a message to the service dealing with Acer, but they said that if the tablet is functioning normally, there is no problem.

Well, if it functions normally, and you don't wish to argue the point, what can you do? Like you said, get something worse in return? It happens.
If you can live with it, well, then do so. I suppose one could pop off the back cover, and check for shielding, as I believe that is the issue. Probably some idiot forgot to put a little shielding around a certain part during assembly, and you get the RF noise.
Unfortunately, people in the States do not quite understand how things are in some parts of Europe. You just can't return it, when it functions correctly. Not sure about Orange's policy.

I have no strange noises coming out of my Iconia and my charger doesn't make a noise either.
As far as I'm concerned an Iconia making strange noises is NOT functioning normally. It could be a symptom of a larger problem and your tablet might suddenly die, you can never be too sure if it will or not.

My A500, had it for two weeks, whines when it charges. The sound doesn't last long. I'm not sure where it's coming from, but I think the tablet, not the power transformer but will check tonight.
The A500 has a one year warranty (US), so based on what I've read here I won't be sending it in for rma unless it breaks. I love really like the A500 but a year from now will be ready for something new.

Annoying whining noise from screen - where do I stand?

Hi folks,
I thought I'd get some opinions from folks here regarding the screen whine issue that some LCD screens get.
I recently bought a replacement Tytn off ebay after breaking my screen on mine. When it arrived it looked fine. I put it on charge and started cleaning it. That night I find out it's got a high pitched whine making it almost unusable.
I've sent it back to the seller and asked for a refund but he says he's contacted HTC to find out if it's a recognised fault or not. If it's not something that HTC acknowledge then he's going to make me make arrangements to pick it up from him.
Does anyone know if this is a recognised fault with the phone?
AFAIK, I have got some experience with some other handheld, it appear the pitch noise come from LCD inverter. seen some picth noise in early production of O2 Atom, old handera handheld. even nokia e61 generates pitch noise if you listen it closely. what I can not confirm is where the LCD inverter located, in mainboard or in LCD modul it self. So I can ot tell you which one is broken.

I've found loads of info on Google about it. It appears to be quite common with some of the older mobile phones.

Well... actually it's up to you, If you find the whining noise is too loud for your ear maybe you should return it while you can. As my experience when I had Handera with whining noise, I had return it. but when the replacement came back, the whining noise get worse and the company said that there's no problem at all with my Handera.
Later on I found out what cause the whining noise, and actually very simple to fix it, just find the inverter ?? (sorry I don't know what they call it in english, It's ferit core and copper wire wrapped around it) and put some wax from the candle or you can use glue.
And again, I don't know where exactly the inverter located in Hermes device, or maybe they use different model of inverter in Hermes.

He says it's not that loud/irritating so I'm not sure what to do.
I've just dealt with it. The whine is only there when the LCD screen is on. My 8525 phone is exactly 1 year old. It can be irritating though, so I use the earbuds whenever I can.

That's the problem, he doesn't want to refund. He wants me to keep the phone so he doesn't have to deal with it.

i am on my second tytn. I bought both used and in PRISTINE condition on Craigslist. The first one I bought had it, and so I asked for my refund from the seller. The second one (that I have now) just started the whining noise yesterday. I've had it since January 2008. It SUCKS!!!

PS: the noise is heard when I put my ear to the front speaker up close. It's weird. I heard it as soon as I move my ear to it. However, after about 5 seconds I don't hear it anymore. Then as soon as I move my ear away, I hear it again... It's like my ears become desensitized to it? lol

It is quite possible. It's like being in a room with an analog clock. You may have sat in that room 100 times, with the same noise around you, but for some reason this time you can hear the tick tick tick of the hand movement. Then just as quickly as you noticed it you can suddenly not hear it no matter how hard you try.
It can be a state of mind that results in your heightened sense of hearing or it can be as simple as your tympanic membrane being a little tighter.
Like the above poster said, I hear mine sometimes too, and other times I dont hear it at all.
To the OP, if the seller has your phone and your money, then either keep asking for your money back and if that doesnt work, email ebay or give him bad marks stating what he has done. If that doesnt work, you can threaten to take him to small claims court ( Judge Judy ). What is loud and irritating to you maybe not to him. Get you rmoney back. Hope this helps..
I think the reason the sound goes in and out is due to the fact that the screen istelf goes to sleep after a few seconds, or what ever you have set in the system...
My screen starting making this noise a few weeks ago. I love the functionality of this phone, but I am pretty much done with it. I can't stand all the tweeks that come with it.
I jumping to the iPhone as soon as they make the slinbox player for it... and they roll out the 3g functionality.
Don't mean to rant, but I am just frustrated.
I think the phone was dropped of damaged and that is why it gives off a high pitch sound.. Mine dropped onto a hard concrete floor. It looks and works perfectly fine but immediately after it emits a high pitched sound when ever the screen is on.
This is not normal for the TyTn which means it was damaged in some way prior to you getting it. Demand a refund.
Hi guys - the person I bought the phone from is still waiting for HTC to get back to him so he still has both the money and the phone.
Even if HTC say it's not a recognised fault, it's still unusable to me because it's really loud to me.
I'm not sure there's much I can do as I'm not exactly in a strong position to make demands.
Personally I think it would be unreasonable for him not to refund me but then he might not be a reasonable person.

The sound is definitely from the LCD - the speaker is fine once the screen is switched off (i.e. you can turn the screen off while on the phone and it's still fine).
I've had 3 8525's, one of them had this problem from day one. There have been a few threads about it as well.
I have just learned to turn my screen off during a call. It's real easy and quick, besides, you aren't looking at the phone when you are talking on it, and if you are, you probably can't hear the whine.
However, if you don't want to deal with the whine, then don't. Hopefully you paid through paypal and can just file a claim if the guy doesn't want to be fair. It is a defect and they should back you up.
If not, look to ebay and see if there is anything further you can do with them.
Call HTC yourself. Don't wait for him.

I'm confused. I thought I heard stereo sound when I first got it, now it sounds like it's more from the right side. I'm on the phone with Asus now. The guy thinks I only have one speaker. I'm looking on both ends and see little holes on both sides. Can someone confirm if this has stereo speakers or a mono speaker?
this is a known issue.

Asus tech support thought that the Transformer runs Windows 7 when I called for a different issue... it's like a bike mechanic trying to fix an airplane :/

same here... but I emailed EVERY name I could find on the net of people at the US HQ and a tech actually called me(not one from the call center) and was VERY helpful. I too have the right side speaker louder than the left. Many thought it was a software issue but the tech said none of the ones in the office were doing that and were even(he checked after he saw my email) and were running the same FW. He believes it's a HW issue, like maybe there was a batch that was affected, or maybe it was the first batch (he confirmed my dock was from the first batch) So he is going to use my unit to figure out what the problem is and hopefully then they will be able to resolve everyone's that's having an issue. My replacement will be here tomorrow and I ship out the one with the lower left volume to him so hopefully we find out officially what is causing this.
Trust me the call center is useless!! They said the same thing to me about it running windows 7. After my email the tech at HQ said they have been discussing it a lot and are going to work to get the call center up to speed and know the product off the top of their heads(the call center is in Jamaica btw)

You mean the right speakers of your car were louder? That would indicate that it is a sw problem instead of a hw problem as graffixnyc suggested.
I knew it wasn't one speaker. I've had the unit for 2 weeks and all of a sudden I only hear from one side. Not that the left side is a little weaker, but none from the left side at all. I'm going to go ahead and do the RMA. Either it's cheap hardware with the speakers (the Transformers is a cheap $$$ you know compared to the other tablets) or I blew out the speaker. It was working fine for two weeks where the audio was centralized without any issues. The last thing I remembered doing before this happened was clearing out the Market cache. I doubt that would've caused this.

Let us know how this goes - I've got the same issue.
I'm hoping it's software, as they can just send out a patch. I'd rather not RMA the unit, but if they determine it's a hardware issue, I'll contact them and get mine swapped out.
Ok. I loaded up some stereo tests from youtube and the left speaker is dead. Try this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8ODm-F9-IM I think this is a hardware issue and not a firmware issue.
My left speaker isn't dead, just less loud. All I need is a balance control. Hmmm, somewhere I have a sound dB meter, have to dig that out and measure the relative outputs.
I had the same issue with left speaker dead. first it was crackling/popping/distorted then dead. Asus gave me a DOA code to give to the retailer for a new one. New one has no speaker issues but does have light bleed which I can live with.
The joys of being cutting edge in tech.
I'm not sure what to do now. Should I get a refund from Amazon and purchase another one or send this one in to Asus?
I just tested mine; received around may 2nd from amazon (ordered on the 26). Speakers seem fine; definitely has right/left and volume is not hugely different. I'm still on the .6 firmware since the .9 is not available ota.
I got my Transformer yesterday, I've just tested the sound and the right speaker is louder than the left. I'm on the latest firmware.
Edit: Do people using different rom's also have the speaker issues?

Actually a pretty good test. Left seems to be working but definitely less volume and body then right...
Awesome. Definately working, seems quieter, but not by as much as I'd have thought...
Just a note guys, I thought my left speaker was dead and tried the speaker test on youtube. At first it sounded like it was only coming out of the right and it was definitely missing a beat, so I was like "efff ..rma time." Then I played it again and it sounded like it was coming from the left only, so I tried it with headphones on and it was still messed up, and my music sounded wack.
So I just ended up doing a full system reboot and it worked fine afterwards, albeit a small difference in volume if anything. This must be a software issue, I'm sure we'll get a fix soon, ASUS is good about that.
I'm going through the exact same thing. Just opened mine up today. I'm letting the IPS flaw of backlight leakage in certain parts go but every song I play is louder in the right speaker and the left is really low. I'm not trying to overlook your hard work but any help you can provide would be great as to where to start contacting Asus. I don't want to call Jamaica...
My Right Speaker is now dead but it worked last week. The HDMI and headphone jack outputs both speakers.
What did everyone else end up doing on this thread to resolve this? Did it end up as an RMA?

I had the popping and creeking issue (left and right) on my speakers a few days ago, but after three reboots they worked again. Maybe a bit more reboots does the trick for you too...

Michrophone/USB

As we all know very well our A500 mic sucks in a big way. I was wondering if an USB headset/michrophone would work. Did anybody ever tried? How did it work?
I've never actually tried the Mic on mine.. is it really that bad?

And no, it's not that bad... it's worse! I am using computers since 1980 and I never ever experienced such a bad microphone. Not even the cheapest crappy ones are this bad. I really like my a500 and I am happy with it but this mic issue is a big problem for me. To the point that if I can't solve it I will be forced to sell it. I even wrote to Acer asking for explanation but nobody ever bothered to answer. When, months ago I called them (Acer Italian Assistace) asking: "Where is the mic"? Nobody was able to give me an answer... The guy didn't even know the a500 had a mic. I do believe this is unacceptable.

I agree with you on this issue....I feel the mic is good...but its placement is made in such a way that the sound barely reaches there....

I've tried the Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000, but neither the microphone nor headset worked.
Surprisingly, the in-line-volume controls worked...
My microphone bottom line
I bought an A500 about 6 weeks ago from Costco for $479, rounded up to about $520 by the time tax was added. I was quite happy with it, until I tried to use speech input, when I discovered the mic problem. I had come to rely on the generally excellent speech input on my OG Droid from 2 years ago. Then Staples came out with their $100 off coupon and the A500 priced at $399, meaning I "overpaid" about $220. I decided to return it, and WAIT. Prices will come down. In the meantime, I miss the tablet.
But here is what I think I learned in the interim.
First, I believe the mic problem to be a hardware issue, rather than software. I could be wrong. Some people claim their problem was fixed when they exchanged units. Some brave types are replacing the hardware.
Workarounds:
I tried a Motorola Bluetooth headset, with mic, but it didn't seem to be much better. That was apparently because the mic portion of the bluetooth spec hasn't been deployed yet. So if that gets fixed, there might be a workaround. I do prefer to be able to speak straight to the tablet however.
I also tried one of those little in-ear wired phones with the 4 contact jacks and an in-line mic. I had high hopes for that, but it didn't seem much better. The fact that that wasn't good either makes me think there is a software/firmware problem IN ADDITION to a hardware mic problem. But I am happy waiting, particularly because Costco's return policy was quite good.

The 2 mics could be for some type of noise cancellation. If by some chance one was wired backwards they would mostly cancel each other, leaving very little audio. Hmmmmm ... didnt research this but maybe that's what everyone is complaining about. Low low recording level would certainly fit the symptoms of a mis-wire. Manufacturing defect? I haven't done any reading or research on this idea just a thought.
I'm actually trying to find out; for a friend, if it's yet possible to get a Bluetooth mic recognized and working ... anyone?

I got the mic -problem, too. I called Acer regarding the issue and they said I should send in the device for repair. 6 days later I got a brand-new device, where the microphone is working OK. It's not as crystal-clear as the iPad's mic, but I can do Skype pretty well with it now ;-)

On the work invoice they sent with it, what did they claim was the fix?
I wonder about it being a hardware problem only because you can record your own voice and hear it playback fine. It's only in voip applications that it gets too low to hear. At least thats the case with mine.
It is a hardware problem, no question. A couple of months ago I took my a500 back to the assistance center and they have substituted it with a brand new one.
As somebody else said, things have improved a lot but my mic is still far to be good. Said that, I believe not all the a500 have the same hardware. Probably different tablets get different components. Some mics are better some mics are awful. I solved the problem buying a headset with mic. Now I can talk perfectly using skype, google talk etc etc. That evidently means the problem is not a sw one.
There is thread on this forum about the "right headset to buy". To make it short, we need the "Apple style" ones (sigh) having a plug with 3 little rings.

Tried Logitech G35 headset volume an track skip controls work but no mike or sound
I have looked through source of HC I am not a developer but can read. There is Linux salsa sound support. Even USB sound card support but not turned on or supported. There are people urging Google to turn it on in ics . It hasn't happened yet. My experience was my tablet was almost deaf, I even opened it up switched mikes, disconnected rear mike, drilled small hole as mine was completely covered over. I could see a small rectangle opening in the front mike compartment covered over by the glass. I made a small hole just above it. All these tests and mods made very little difference. Only solution so far--use a Sony PSP headset with mike in cable, was only mike combo that worked. It has 4 segments on the plug---same configuration that some camcorders have. Not a common plug.
USB sound works but very poorly
Well I tried USB Audio Tester root -- free on playstore and with a little fiddling with the controls I got sound and mike on my Logitech G35 headset working. Alas the sound was very poor and the mike was always in. ALSO the regular mike and speakers were on as well. Maybe some other USB sound card would work better with this program. At least it proves the Tablet is capable of USB sound FYI. Running Civato’s Flexreaper extreme oc 1200 on v6 bootloader.
I will keep digging for program or controls to make this work.

[Q] For those with their Nexus 4, is the earpiece making a screeching noise?

If I place my Nexus 4 against my ear, I can hear high pitched screeching and some popping coming from the earpiece, even when a call is not taking place. At first I thought it was a heat issue, maybe some capacitors or something getting a bit hot and whistling, so I turned the phone off and the noises stopped instantly.
This is pretty annoying and surely shouldn't be happening

I'm glad you posted that, mine does it too - and I thought I had a faulty phone.
According to support I'm the first to report such a problem, have you called support about it? - 0800 328 6081.
The more of us that call, the better the chance it's sorted (if it's possible).
I can't live with that noise, it's too loud for me as I have sensitive hearing on interference like that.
So it looks like I'm sending mine back for a refund and go buy a S3
It does sound like poor build quality in suppressing electrical interference to the ear speaker, as you say capacitors or even a processor is leaking noise to that speaker in the same way cell/mobile radio causes to external speakers when brought close to them.
WOW so many problems already with this thing!!! I don't know about this phone right now

I returned it to the store for a refund - they refused to swap it for another as they couldn't hear it . I've ordered another which I should get tomorrow, and if that has the same issue I'm not sure what to do - it doesn't really sound like something that can be fixed through software, does it?
I asked on another forum and one person replied saying that there's was ok, but maybe they're ears just aren't as sensitive as ours.
I remember as a kid, I could hear CRT TVs from a long way off (no sound was coming through the speakers) and nobody else could.

I think you're right, I too always heard a CRT working (I still can when I see one working!)
Maybe we're hearing interference the average user is not going to hear.
If anyone else is reading this and owns a Nexus 4, try calling your voicemail (which I assume would be free for you) - during the call wait for a few seconds and listen carefully, it's more obvious when you're not talking and in a call.
The noise is almost like having a small fly trapped between the phone and your ear at times, it also reminds me of the noise a hard drive makes at times and most of us know what that sounds like.

I got it even when I wasn't on a call - a few seconds after powering up the phone and it was there

It seems to be an issue with the electromagnetic shielding. I get this problem when I am next to my sound system and amplifier. Those things arent shielded. Now in school where theres basically nothing else here my earpiece is completely clean. Not even a hiss.
does it also emit a sound when it is swithced on, but the screen is off? i remember i had sth. like this (high-pitched sound) on my first google nexus s, but it was clearly coming from the screen rather than the earpiece.
Received a replacement today - it's A LOT better. There's still a very feint buzz, but it's barely noticeable.

Yes, even did it without a simcard inside. Definitely coming from the earpiece, if I moved my ear down the phone it was quieter/silent.

Didn't test the previous one in airplane mode, but just tried this one and it's the same.
Definitely getting the same issue with my N4; screen on or off. Can't imagine this being fixed by firmware, sounds like a bad hardware design.
I'm also once of these people who gets irritated by the sound of DVD Players/VCR/TV etc. But two other people I have shown seem to think its an issue too.
It's good to read a replacement was better, that's made my day.
The problem is certainly a electromagnetic shielding issue with the earpiece, I can stand in a middle of a field and it has that sound you often get from PC or Hi-Fi speakers when you stand close to them.
But with the earpiece you can't move it of course - so clearly a design flaw, and hopefully only on a batch?
That said, it does seem to be an intermittent fault, I've also noticed it doesn't happen within the first 10-30 seconds of a call. I wonder if the phone stops all background processes during the start of a call, but then later kicks in which causes those noises.

I can hear the high pitched noise from a CRT from, like, 100'. Can a lot of other people really not hear them? Also, deer/dog/insect deterrents that people use in their homes and yard give me an instant headache from the sound. Great. This does not bode well. Oh well, I'll cross that bridge if/when I get to it.

Exactly that, those who can't hear those audible repellents for pets, or not hear the Apps available which also emit very annoying high pitch sounds - then would not be bothered by the noise we mention here.
I'm certain if I took my N4 into a shop, the typical response from staff would be "we can't hear it"
I have this issue with my phone as well. Screen on or off. Charging or not. Noise is still present.

Loose headphone port-Clove Technology

First post here, and it's a slightly negative one so apologies. I got my Z3C last Thursday, set it up over the weekend, and thought everything was great. Then I noticed that there was significant play when I put my headphones in - basically the headphone jack could wobble around. I have owned lots of different items with 3.5mm ports in and none have ever felt like this-when inserted it felt like the bottom of the jack was able to move around. To be fair the sound does not seem effected-no distortion etc.
So I packaged it up, thinking it was clearly defective, and sent it back to Clove, who to be fair had been good up until that point. They received it today and have emailed me to say that they have looked at three other Z3Cs and they are all the same.
I contacted Sony tonight and they say that there shouldn't be significant moment, but I wanted to check here- has anyone noticed significant movement from the headphone jack when plugged in? I am annoyed that I could well end up with a phone that I am not happy to keep, but that I would feel uncomfortable selling on as in my eyes it is faulty.

Seriously though, mine is fine.
I hadn't noticed, so I plugged in my headphones, wiggled the connector and could see a tiny bit of movement. Plugged them into my Z1, and see the exact same amount of movement.
Non-issue, at least for me!

I'm not talking about tiny movement- I have compared with a Note 3 and a Note 10.1, as well an IPad, and while there is very minor movement., the jack feels firmly held in place. This is not the case on the Z3C. I wish I had filmed the issue before sending it back, but didn't think there would be any issue with a refund as to me it was clearly not standard.

Well, I didn't notice any movement in my Z3c until after a couple of weeks my music kept pausing. Upon further inspection it seems that any movement in the headphone jack causes my Z3c to connect/disconnect the headphones. Today, over a matter of minutes, this degraded and my headphones are now unusable as the slightest movement causes my headphones to connect/disconnect. I'm really not happy with this and expect a phone to be built to last more than two weeks.

Mine moves also back-forth, left-right while on my iPhone it is solid. But I don't see your issue, if it's a defect (and not by design) then you have a two years warranty
Why send it back now? As long as the sound is good?
I've notice a tiny play in mine too but I believe that its cuz the waterproof. There is a plastic stuff inside and that make move the eraphone jacks
I can confirm the slight movement on my Z3C's headphone jack too. And yes, there's some sort of plastic jacket inside the jack, this what makes the headphone plug wobble. It's a non-issue, pretty sure it's part of the waterproofing design.

But what if I've rooted it already?
I checked a z3c, z3 and a z2 at a store today, z3c has the most play of them all, z2 is the most stable. Really that is the only part of the z3/z3c that feels cheap and badly made.
This is part of the "waterproofing design", but i suspect that it is a faulty design and this gap is actually responsible for the many water damaged z3c phones. People report that they just submerged it for a minute or two in fresh water (under a tap, or it fell in a toilet... lol) and the screen died for all of them, the phone continued working but the screen was dead.

Today when I started to cycle from university towards home my music kept pausing. First i thought someone else was using my spotify and I put my phone to airplane mode but it kept happening and I noticed this same movement. When it tilts from back towards front music pauses and now it is also unusable just as above text states. Has anyone contacted their services about warranty? I would like to know what have they answered. I usually listen music from an hour to two per day so obviously this is an issue for me.
EDIT: So i went to the service and they said that headphone jack can be broken in two if it is targeted at with too much power. And if this is the case warranty will not recover it so it is fixable but customer will pay. In any other case warranty should cover it. They their service would take two weeks..

I have the exact problem. I just sent it in for warranty repair. They said they will check if it's user damage and move on from there.

Same happened to me, but as my phone already fell twice and I have signs of it on its back, I won't get any repair under warranty... I guess it's because of the plastic around... There's no sign of damage around it, but when I move the jack music stops suddenly. That's bad
I had the exact same error of a loose jack then music pausing. Then the headphones weren't picked up at all. sent it to sony, they fixed it all fine. No problems
I have the exact same problem, and I see it as a problem since the music doesn't work properly for the second time since I got the phone.
The first time, I sent the phone to the after sale service and it was repaired within the warranty limits, it was three months ago. Now, the problem occurs again and I'm a bit disappointed. If I can't use my phone for three weeks every two or three months, what's the point of getting a flagship phone from Sony ?

I believe they also reset your phone during this process? Does the backup save and restore everything?
I have/had the same problem until it stopped working completely. Sent it to Sony today morning they told me on chat that the repair will take 5-7 days...

Well you should factory reset your phone anyway, before you are sending it for repair. That's the first thing to do when you have any problems with your phone...
The back up saves all messages, phone calls, phonebook, apps settings etc. so yeah, everything I would say...
Same here... I'll return the phone next week to the retailer. Let's see what they'll say.
So, after my headphone jack got broken and I sent it for repair, (which only took less than 1 week btw) the phone is not waterproof Anyway I can listen to music again
EDIT: I am an idiot, was testing it with opened flap lol, the phone is actually waterproof
