OUR PHONES CAN'T HANDLE ICS - samsung - Vibrant General

This kind of stuff just pushes more users to buy a nexus instead of a "modified" Android device.
I know that is all I'll be buying in the future.

Yes totally. The word goes out to NB. He is the man. In termed if my next phone. Well I can say that even though galaxy s is almost 2 years old it still has good support from xda because of the awesome hardware. So next phone will have to have hardware just as good or it won't get much support.

They mean Samsung Touchwiz ICS.
They bloat and put a hell more features and the package is about twice what AOSP ROM is.
Look at CM7 size and compare to Froyo Stock.

Most likely you can get Touchwiz for the Nexus S, perhaps you need to wait until the Galaxy S phones get Ginger or so, but it should be possible.

Be more specific as to what these "features" are that you want to have from touch wiz.
i hate touchwiz and the sgs. why is samsung making such amazing hardware feeling so slow by letting some monkeys make software! i sold my sgs and hope to see the nexus s in my handys soon.
Agreed.I'm sure this port will be easy. But touchwiz is awful. I just hope they didn't cripple it with RFS. that would be my main question. If it does have RFS ITS likely as horrible as the rest of the galaxy phones. Trust me, I have a captivate and fascinate. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the hardware just hate the software

Sweet... from vibrant to mytouch4g to nexus s to galaxy 2. If its really got a dual core Sammy processor then we are talking Orion? If this baby comes out by summer then that best buy buy back insurance is going to be pretty nice!
I love my sns on cyanogen but really miss all the great codecs etc. Team whiskey really made the vibrant special. I hate touchwhiz but ifs easier to remove most of the bad with that and keep all the good with guys like team whiskey and supercurio than it is to try to hack all of it back in. You get a permenant rfs fix and get rid of the overlay and everything's flying high! The sns seems to have a better screen than my vibrant did in all areas save for the gorilla glass. Can't even imagine a samoled without pentile, its going to be amazing! Wonder how that Orion's going to card against qualcomm and Tegra2... gpu will definitely be nice at the very least. Qualcomm will probably always own the linpack scores but a phone is so much better than that. Lets hope by then gingerbread gets hardware enabled browsing...

The Nexus S supports ICS so our Vibrants should run it just fine. A Nexus S is basically the same hardware as a Galaxy S with NFC support. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be getting any official ICS from Samsung. We have yet to even see Gingerbread, although Tmobile also has a say in it. I've already decided to either get the Samsung Hercules or Nexus Prime to replace my age old Vibrant. I'm leaning towards the Nexus Prime simply for first-served updates directly from Google.

I could really care less about Ice Cream Sandwhich for the Vibrant. Update is released in December, we wait at least 6 or so months for CM8 to be stable, the new update may pose new problems upon the existing ones, and by then the phone is 2 years old already. Touchwiz already offers GPU-acceleration in its launcher and browser, and for the most part, the current Honeycomb GPU acceleration is still lacking compared to that of iOS or WP7 (app drawer, screen rotation, and homescreen animation still lags a little). Not really expecting much of ICS.

Yes, it is going to make Android the same across all Nexus branded platforms. Touchwiz, Sense, and Blur are not going anywhere and the manufacturers still have to modify ICS for each individual device. The Galaxy S is done for official support, period. Samsung is not making any more money from the original Galaxy S compared to the SII; most owners of the original have or will already have switched devices so Samsung has no true need to update the international version. Google's 18 month update suggestion was what it was, a suggestion, and by the time December comes, the Galaxy S is about 18 months old anyways.

Still no signs of Android 2.3 for our beloved "Vibrant"?

Oh come on Samsung, its big time we get to taste the Android Gingerbread OS for our Galaxy S Vibrant. I have a Galaxy S I9000 and I got Gingerbread update in the month of Apr-May. But Samsung has not even released Android 2.2.1 for Vibrant. Did they forget this model?
Edit: No doubt I love the amazing Cyanogenmod 7 on my Vibrant but I'd love to see the 2.3 update from Samsung (some TouchWiz love LOL).

T-Mobile doesn't want to cut into upgrades. Since the Vibrant 4G is out and is the current model, the original Vibrant is deprecated. It is pretty obvious, as no other carrier has been denied a Gingerbread version for the Galaxy S except for T-Mobile.

The 4G isn't much of an upgrade for current Vibrant owners imo. I don't see why we couldn't get the software it's not like it would give us a FFC or 4g(maybe). I guess for those of us smart enough to root and flash that we survive with better roms anyway. We probably should have seen this coming. I mean the only way possible to get froyo was to update via kies which hopefully won't brick your phone.
