I got the automatic system update notification for ics! - Nexus S General

it downloaded the file, verified it, said it was going to reboot in 10, 9, 8, 7.. then said your system is up to date!?
Only thing I can think of is it aborted due to battery level?
B

exactly the same! What to do? dont want to wait for days again!

I've assumed it's battery and am charging now.. anyone else know what's going on?

The same issue with me...Don't have a clue what to do..

i9023? mines not rooted or anything "custom"

Me too! I just received the OTA notification, made a backup and clicked update.
Downloaded the 128mb file, file check was ok, pushed "restart and install" and instead it said that system is updated. Any help?
No root, stock 2.3.6, i9023

same here, my phone was on charge btw..

Anyone found a resolution for this yet? Received another OTA download?
Mine was on about 45% when I got OTA, plugged it in to my comp USB port before download started but still disappeared on countdown as well

not received another notification, how rubbish eh! maybe they somehow "pulled it" before it could damage something? dunno. I'm sure someone clued up might add something helpful.

This bug is so annoying, it was soo close!! Still haven't found anything about it on here or other sites, and still no new OTA message

Same here,
Just got the update OTA...finished downloading and began counting down for the restart. At 8 secs remaining it switched to saying "your system is currently up to date". I tried restarting with no luck!
WTF!!
I hope it comes back!

I have still recieved nothing! How long would it take? I have a normal nexus s, unbranded unrooted and all that stuff...

If you received an update notification a little while ago but the update isn't currently available for your phone, this is likely the result of Google pausing the update in your area while we monitor feedback. The Android 4.0 update is continuing to roll out around the world so your phone will receive another update notification when it's available again in your region.
5 of 10 people found this answer helpful. Did you? YesNo Report abuse

That doesn't really address, RECEIVING, downloading, verifying and "ok'ing" the update, only for nothing to happen. V odd.

Same here..

Why don't, all of you, flash it manually? It's exact same as receiving the update ota.

I'm a new user so I can't attach link but if you go to the Google Mobile Help Forum you can see a thread, started by a user called Fozan, reporting the same issue.
Maybe it's better if you all report the problem there as well so Google can understand that we are a lot!

OTA update on G2 Touch (youtube player)

hey guys, i have the G2 Touch running firmware build 2.73.111.26 CL#69351 on T-Mobile Germany.
today, i got the message that a firmware update is available, that mainly affects the youtube player. it was 3,6 MB large.
i clicked on "download" and afterwards on "install now" and then my phone rebooted. after reboot, first i saw the T-Mobile boot screen, then it booted into recovery mode.
in the beginning, there was a status bar moving (but with no status, just some movement, if you know what i mean) and then the status bar vanished. as it stayed like this without any change for about 10 minutes, i removed the battery and inserted it again, then i booted the phone like always.
but now i don't have the update and can't download it again. is there any way to get that update again?
thanks in advance for your help.
ok, i did a full factory reset to get the update again, that worked very good.
i got the update notification again, and tried installing it again.
download works, after clicking on "install now" the phone reboots and starts in recovery mode.
there is the status bar, and it is working until it is about half filled.
then the icon changes, i suddenly have an explanation mark on the screen, the status bar has vanished.
then nothing happens.
why doesn't it work? what can I do?
try pressing back or menu?
no key works.
for some reason, since the first factory reset, my pc's adb doesn't recognize the phone any more, so i can't see the url of the update. but the update window shows the filename, it is "OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip" if that is helpful for somebody^^
also i called T-Mobile support a few minutes ago, and they said there was no update at all since the 2.73.111.26 that was published in november.
any idea, anybody?
and for the record, the following link works to get the update:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip
can anybody help?
Most likely an update to the Youtube player that allows High Quality streams. All the newer builds (3.XXXXXXXX) have this new version, if you can live without, than it's nothing major.
I experienced the same: OTA Update announcement - something about "YouTube Player" blah - after installation, my hero was frozen.
Back & Menu brought me into the maintenance menu: Reboot without upgrade-activation brought back my old hero. No changes done.
Very quick (~1h later) "first level e-mail support" from t-mobile: No OTA-updates possible on G2 Touch (...harhar), pointed me to website with old firmware update.
I asked them to contact second level technical support - as it was definetly an OTA firmware-update and I already have installed the older firmware-update: Answer pending, since yesterday afternoon.
I hope, this was no hacker-intrusion attempt. T-Mobile not being informaed about an OTA firmware-update by whoever, does not really fill me with confidence. Would be a nice little hack, if some illformed hacker found out a way to pretend an firmware update OTA and used the willingness of all hero owners to take even a small step towards Android 2.1 wonderland...
.g.
No, it's really no hacking attempt. The update is on HTC servers, that's why T-Mobile support doesn't know it. Will contact HTC support today.
ok, I just called HTC.
the guy who could hardly speak german but tried very much told me, that they knew of the problem, as I am not the only one with it.
he recommended to perform a full factory reset, then try again.
as I told him that I already had done this several times, he told me I had to send the phone in via T-Mobile, so they can fix this.
considering the fact that this is a very minor update and that I need my phone, I now decided to wait some more weeks till the 2.1 update will (hopefully) arrive.
maybe the 2.1 update will work, if not I still can send it in. also, the update may be available to install via usb from PC, so it might work better.
so it's waiting for 2.1 again
Hi,
In the Netherlands we got this update too. It fixes youtube and enables the phone to get Android 2.1 OTA, which will be available in a week or two.
The original HTC Hero firmware checks for updates every two weeks. Maybe the next trick will be helping you to force download the update (it worked for me to force the update):
Set the device's date a year in the future (for example 15 june 2011). Go back to home screen and probably the update wil appear in your screen.
Let us know if it worked for you..
It worked for me. As soon as I changed the date I received the update.
Thanks for the solution.
Is it just me thats wondering why.. if they are going to release a 2.1 update soon... are they packaging in an update for youtube in this ota?

I guess more people where complaining about the broken Youtube player than about the 2.1 update (at least it was more visible for our customers). Having this fixed and declared on the support site makes life easier for customer support...it is stupid I know, but the average user is that dump.

Sure.. but how many months to wait now.. otherwise why update youtube at all?
Rumours are saying that it's coming the 18th and I think that pretty believable because we have got that update today...
And I don't know anything about youtube update ^^ maybe they wanted to give us something instead of an empty update ^^
Yeah, it makes perfect sense.
There was no "System updates ..." item in the phone status, before this update. I don't see why HTC would update the FOTA client if they didn't actually plan on sending us the 2.1 update soon. Probably takes a few days though.
Be patient
Hi,
I did the clock tip and got immediatly the update message. Download and installation went fine. Rebooting took about 10 minutes, so be patient and let the update do its work.

New(er) Kies update available

Just got another update. I was on kies 1.5.3.10093-80 so I am not sure yet what this one is.
Edit: kies 1.5.3.10093-81
I'm on 1.5.3.10093-80 and have no update.
Maybe Froyo is actually ready, but it's kies which is holding up the release...
Have you done a manual check for update in the Kies menu (not the widgets at the bottom) ?

You dont need phone connected if you update Kies.
It's more than likely to be a small fix that fixes the registy key error on the previous version ending in 80.
That stopped kies working properly 64bit win 7

I tried to update from the website but I can only seem to update via the updater in Kies. Downloading via updater now. Hope it works!
EDIT: It worked. had to do it to make sure there were no new builds of JH2 for bell tech support.

It's another large(ish) update, thousands of files again, hardly a registry fix.
When you click the close cross top right, or 'cancel' to close the firmware update check after it reports nothing new found. "MSC.Thunder.FirmwareUpdate.exe" starts gobbling up ram like there is no tomorrow (over 1gb by the time I find it to kill it) and my system becomes basically unusable until I kill the samsung "devicemanager.exe" and "connectionmanager.exe" and wait a few minutes.
This problem only started with 1.5.3.10093-80, and 1.5.3.10093-81 doesn't change it at all. (win7-x64)
I keep getting 'The internet is not connected' message in the update procedure
I'll probably have to stay up all night, clicking retry

I had that once, it made me laugh as its phrasing implied it was something wrong my end though I was browsing the web just fine and spectating a live game with plenty of bandwidth to spare.
clicking retry worked first time for me though.

Yes, not fixed even in 81 and applies also to Win7-x32. Manually add .../FUS registry key solve the problem.
I get checking updates stuck on there all day. almost I left it on overnight and it just keeps saying checking updates. I went here http://au.samsungmobile.com/support/softwaremanuals/software.do?phone_model=GT-I9000&sw_type=SW and it's still only has 1.5.1_1083. Dam blasted aussie site you think we would be so upto date yet I feel like such a backwards country sometimes.
I've been on v10093_31_1, it didn't offer me an update. Uninstalled and manually downloaded v10093_80, installed it, then it was checking for updates for about an hour. Found one, but gave me at least 50 warnings about 'no internet connection' although the internet was working fine all the time, then it finally upgraded.
I have no problems with connecting the phone to Kies on W7 64bit whatsoever.
edit:
never had any problems with 'MSC.Thunder.FirmwareUpdate.exe' either, through update widget in Kies or executed manually.

Yes not sure why Samsung Australia Support is still pushing the older version unless the versions relate to the builds in some way.
Hell we are still running JG4 Firmware as a release well behind the rest of the world.
Have installed 1.5.3.10093_1_1 from the UK site and it was snappy to say the least.
Currently downloading 1.5.3.10093_80 from the UK. Will check the update options after install.

OTA question

sorry for starting a new thread on this. but i tried reading all OTA threads and still confuse
so the new update is the gingerbread? i thought ginger bread is 2.3 ?
also besides wifi calling and tethering, what else is added after the update?
thank you
again, sorry for my noobness
Gingerbread hasn't been released yet. It was rumored to be release with the nexus "n" from samsung. This update included a new radio for better connection, wifi calling, wifi tethering, and a couple of bugs such as no lock screen noise.

The OTA isn't Gingerbread. It's Froyo.Sprinkles.
thank you for the replies.. its because ive been hearing about gingerbread so i thought that was the update.
thanks!

You could 'try' going to your phones dialpad and entering *#*#2432546#*#* and see if it offers it again, or shows up under about phone - system updates.
If not, then you may want to install it manually. There are plenty of good instructions all over this board and the web on how to do that.

What exactly does putting that in the dial pad do? My update also disappeared and when I click those numbers it says Checkin succeeded. I go to phone and system updates and it says my phone is up to date -_-
I noticed when I check under build number it says 1.19.531.1
Should I just try to do a manual update?

Yeah if the checkin doesn't work then do the manual update.
The checkin basically asks Google servers if there are any updates pending for your phone. But they set lists and if you are not on it at the time it won't offer the update.
I did the manual update and it worked just fine. Was easy and didn't take long. Just make sure not to mess with your phone while it is updating. Some people see the green update screen and pull battery after a few mins.

Kies acting really weard this morning. Bell Canada

Hay all. So, I got up this morning and like I do every morning and plugged my phone into my PC to see if there is any upgrades available yet. Usually everything goes smooth without a hitch. This morning, when I tried, Kies connects to phone no problem, but yet when i check for firmware upgrades, the firmware upgrade window pops up, and is completely blank for 5 or 10 seconds (sometimes more, sometimes its instantaneous ) then a messages comes up saying 'no response from server, check your internet connection and try again". I kept trying and trying, and then FINALLY after an hour or so, it said "this devices version cannot be updated." WTF?!?!
I am running the latest version of Kies 10103.100 and usually it just says there is no updates available at this time or whatever it says..
Any ideas?? Maybe Froyo is being uploaded?!?! Anybody else suddenly have the same problem?
I'm in Canada, and completely 100% stock. JH2 2.1
EDIT: okay, I just tried again, and now I'm back to the Latest version already installed on this device... Crap.. I was hoping it was a good sign that Froyo was on it's way like someone said in another thread that claimed he worked for Bell and the update would be rolled out on the 15TH. Suppose, the day isn't over yet..
yeah i just got the cannot connect to server message as well earlier. I was hoping they are taking down the server so they can roll out the 2.2 but i guess i was wrong. lol oh well, still hoping it'll come later today.

[Q] Possible update to our update?

Just for the heck of it I clicked on updates. It says "Turn on Wi-Fi before checking updates. Since when ?? Before I downloaded with the phone. Does this mean there is an UPDATE for the UPDATE ?
No it just requires wifi to be turned on. I tried it this morning too and nothing came through. Though the url to check for an update now also included my service tag number which I thought was interesting.
I am at home and had to figure out how to connect to our network . . add my phone to the ok list etc etc .. FINALLY I get the "Connected" message and checked about updates .. said "none available." What a surprise. A time waster.
PS .. Yes, it showed my service tag in the URL for a split second.
not fair im still on 2.1 humph
????
mine always says i need wifi to check!?!
Don't be surprise if they put out a service pack, or completely new update to replace this garbage they sent out. To me it just seems they kicked out something to shut us all up about it. They probably kicked out an incomplete beta as a "here you deserve this.." and after December 3rd, the real thing will be out.
hmmm.. real thing... am I giving them too much credit with that?

I have read many posts on multiple forums. The major complaint that I read is not getting the update yet. I have not read any posts that talk about the Froyo released by Dell being "garbage". What makes the update "garbage"? And, if it is "Garbage" is that the fault of Dell or Google? I never heard HP or Dell blamed for Vista being "Garbage".
i am very happy with 2.2 .. that goes to show you how UNHAPPY I was before. I could never use it as a phone because of the answer and hang up issues. so while so many of you are hating 2.2 i am loving it because I can finally put my other phone in a drawer.
