Bricked the power adapter + - Thinkpad Tablet General

Last night the power adapter died. The extension cord it was plugged into was very hot where the adaptor was plugged in. Maybe the cord killed the adaptor.
Asnd the micro USB port has gotten worse.
I have many micro USB chargers and cables designed for phones but none of them except a very light weight one are not working on the TPT.
I have it charging now 6 hours and not yet 70 %.
One of my chargers accepts a USB - micro cable but the TPT cable is also not working nor any other cables either.
Is this the death of the USB port I've been reading about?
Is the USB micro standard off the shelf or Lenovo special?
Waiting for IBM Israel to get back to me.
Thanks for any help you can give.

most of phone charger is 1A
Thinkpad charger is 2A, so it's normal that charging Thinkpad with phone charger is very slow !

Bad IBM service
After 12 days I have my TPT back BUT!!!!
New motherboard and the micro USB fits good.
BUT!!!
The did not (check) or replace the AC power supply or USB cable as I asked them to do.
Trickle charging with 1 Amp phone charger.
Also the motherboard comes back with:
Serial # 000000
Model: 00000
What can I do???

If you can do without the TPT for a couple hours the 1a with the device turned off charges pretty well, I also dug up an old iphone 1st gen charger and its 1.5 amp, i had like 3 of them around the house was a happy little surprise as I have already lost my lenovo charger

I tested with a Sony Ericsson cord and Lenovo's power adapter, but the TPT wouldn't charge. Certainly, it doesn't charge either with Sony Ericsson power adapter and Lenovo's cord. It must be end2end Lenovo.
Would it charge faster if I configure USB to "only charging"?

if you are using a wall plug-in charger, the usb menu should not come up that only comes up for pc link. the cable does not matter on mine, im using an apple charger and a Motorola cable from my photon and it work albeit slow, the best thing to do is completely turn the tablet off, its not going to charge too well if you are using it while trying to charge and the adapter only pushes an amp out.

Sad, you can't peruse any thinkpad tablet forums without hearing about defective usb ports.

[Q] Charging issue!

I'm on a road trip now and every time I connect the phone to a charger it switches it self off.
I have tried different cables and chargers. This also happens if I connect it to my Mac.
Is anyone else seeing this?
Thank you
Funny you should post this, today is the first day at work with my DVP and I tried to use a USB cable connected to my pc that charges my HD2 and SE MW600 headset, connected it to the Dell and it turned off just like you say. Probably not enough voltage/amps, I borrowed a BlackBerry charger and that works fine.

I noted this in my "Nit-picky" stuff post. Needs a 1Amp charger.
Same here.
The only charger that worked is the one that came with the DVP.
I tried the 1A iP4 charger, 750 mA of the Kindle, a third party dual 1A (each) charger, 1A car charger, 2.5A iPad charger and finally my computer.
None of these works, but if it has like 50% charge then it charges with any of the above...

No...thats not true....But I have seen several different combinations work.
I have the Nexus 1, one of the Jawbone headsets, the HD2, HD7, DVP, and have access to the Focus and LG devices. All of these use the same type of cable.
The HDx cables, the Focus cable, and the Jawbones cables all work with sync and Charging. The LG cable does not...only works for the LG. Some of the older BB cables will only provide a sync or a charge...but not both.
The different USB charging adapters have different results also.
The DELL and HD7 adapter will work. They will work plugged into a wall or a power strip. The jawbone and HD2 usb adapter will not work plugged into a power strip at home, but, both of them will work plugged directly into a wall.
All the cables I have will work when plugged into a laptop, EXCEPT the LG. Apparently the LG cable I have access to only works with an LG.
Now to be honest, the HD7 shows no such reluctance to charge with any combination. The DVP does. My DVP does NOT require DELL only parts, but it is picky about what it will play with.
-My overnight charger is connected directly to the wall. It is a jawbone wired charger, no adapters or usb. All phones connect and charge ok with this.
-My Work office charger is a HD2 usb adapter with the HD2 charger cable.( which is strange because this one will not work at home plugged into a power strip.)
-My HOme office currently uses the Dell adapter plugged into a power strip with a generic sync cable. I say generic because I don't recall where it comes from...all I know its not the DVP or the HD7, because both of those cables are still wrapped up in the box they came with.
-My car charger is an ATT dual USB charger. It has last years model adapter, plus a USB connection. All my phones and head sets charge off of this combination quite nicely. I also have a Tmobile care charger but have not tested it yet.
There is definitely something different about the DVP and charging. I'm hoping Nicolas Cage will play the lead when this conspiracy is made into a movie.
the DVP will only charge with a 1A+ charger. the ones that come with BT headsets don't feed it enough to charge. USB cable plugged into a laptop USB port is hit or miss. The USB port in my car is 1.5A, charges the DVP really quick. I haven't found the make of the cable an issue, the DVP charges with any I've come across so far, HTC, BB, the cheap extendable cable from an airport, etc. it is picky about amps.
The cable is not the problem. I didn't mean that when I plug different cables it does not charge.
I have a charger hub which I connected many phones to it, HD2, palm pre, nexus one and few more and all of them charge from it. When I connect the DVP it shows its charging but in the morning the phone is dead, no charge at all.
BTW, it does charge from my laptop and desktop.
I charge my phone overnight on my PC and never had this issue

I can't get mine to charge now at ALL..
Apparently it drained and shut off in my pocket. Went to charge like I normally do.. and NOTHING..
I noticed a weird behavior yesterday when charging it would jump from charging to not charging to charging. While sitting on my table. NO MOVEMENT to the cord or anything.
Tried Dell charger, tried aftermarket one (that I have been using for 2 months), and PC USB no response from the phone at all. Even tried to swap to a battery I know was low but not dead. Still no response from the phone.
The connection looks good.. but I am thinking maybe I am having a problem with the connector in the phone ?
Took my sons battery out (He also has a DVP) and booted my phone. Plugged it in and it started to charge. Then hot swapped batteries while it was plugged in.. let the battery charge up to 25% and now it charges fine again..
FUNNY it won't boot or charge while plugged in with a dead battery.. but will stay on if booted up and you remove the battery in it..

Charging without Samsung AC Adapter?

I went out of town this week and made sure to grab my USB cable, but left the AC adapter at home figuring I'd just charge off my laptop via usb. Apparently not... I also tried plugging the USB cord into my iPhone AC/usb adapter with no luck. The only thing I've found is that when you turn off the Tab and connect to one of these devices, a green battery indicator will pop up showing that it is charging. Well, after about 16 hours, it made it from 15% all the way up to 48%. Does anyone know any way around turning it off to charge or why it is barely charging when it is off?

Well seeing as it has a 7000mAh battery, just about any run-of-the-mill USB charger isn't going to cut it. The amperage would have higher as well. Now i would hazard that an iPad charger (10 watts) would probably work just fine vs an iPod charger.
Your laptop's USB port isn't providing enough juice to charge fully. With the screen off it will only trickle charge and very slowly at that.
You'll need at least 5 Volt 2 Amp chargers.
You can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14890063&postcount=16
Or this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/190522553195?ru...ee-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1#ht_3085wt_905
I've ordered both last week but neither have arrived yet. I'll report back.
You need a 5vdc supply that will provide 2A. 10W, not 5w as the previous post said. That adapter on ebay won't help the charge, it just disconnects the data line so it does not change its mode when connected to a computer. There are a lot of power supplies that will work and even more that won't, just made sure it supplies 2a. If you want to charge off your laptop then you will want a Y adapter similar to what is on usb powered hard drives but even then you will need to use 2 usb 2.0 or 3.0 ports and will provably only get 1a out.

Charging using USB

Hello
as we know, we cannot charge our Transformer using USB.
Thats a pitty as I bought a Solat Charger (expensive one) which can charge USB-Devices.
Now does anyone know how we can fix this? I thought about buying a second cable and changing some connectors? Power is power, it has to work somehow...
any ideas?
thanks
Dominik

You've got to somehow mod it to give us 15v, buy a usb 3.0 female and change some pin layouts.

It depends how fast you want to charge. I plugged the ASUS cable into an apple charger last night. I then connected it to the tablet and shut the tablet down. When I started charging the tablet was at 72%, when I got up 7.5 hours later, it was up to 93%. So it wouldn't be enough to charge it from nearly empty, but it might be enough to top up the charge after using the tab for a couple of hours. This is with the ASUS cable and no modification to the charger at all.
According to the Tip sheet that came with my TF, USB on a computer can charge it, but only when the TF is in sleep mode (screen off) or powered off.
Have you tried the solat charger to see if it does indeed charge the TF when the screen is off?
Most solat chargers have a 12v plug to power car cigarette jack devices. Connect this to a female usb plug and you can charge your tranformer and dock.
Search for the Charging thread started by Devcake. There is an extensive discussion on the charging requirements of the TF and charging options. Also the pinout and function for the connector. It is NOT true USB 3.0. It just happens to use that connector and some of the conductors.

Nexus 7 Car Charger Issue

Hey all, quick question.
I have my Nexus 7 installed in my car. Originally it was getting power from a 500mah USB car charger, but it didn't provide enough power to the tablet when running GPS/maps, etc.
So I bought an "8Ware Dual USB Car Charger 5V/2A" to try. I plugged it in, and the tablet doesn't detect it or charge from it. However I can plug my Galaxy S3 into it and it charges fine.
Really confused about this - it makes no sense.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
I understand your frustration and it sucks!!
But sometimes even when it says UNPLUGGED and NOT CHARGING, just leave it there for 30-60 minutes. You might see that your battery actually increase... This happens with my Griffin PowerJolt Dual USB car charger also.
You can either blame the device or you can start blaming other issues like the charger, the usb cable etc but for me, I blame primarily on the device.

Thanks for that. I tried plugging it in for a while but it definitely didn't get a charge.
Hey All.. I looked forever to find a solution. The Targus 2A car charger has a small (3") adapter cable that comes with it purportedly for Galaxy Tab. That little cable with the data wires shorted on the device end allows the N7 to be charged from ANY 2A car charger. I'm using the adapter with a Scosche dual 2.1 Amp Car Charger
Adapter picture
Targus Charger
Edit: I just built a usb cable with the data wires shorted on the Nexus end (cut, strip, short micro usb end green and white, remake connections red to red and black to black, insulate splices individually, wrap all in electrical tape or heat shrink for strength and beauty) and it works with all chargers. Took about 20 minutes.

[Q] original cable not charging fast enough

I just realized my original cable doesn't charge my phone fast enough and I drain battery while using it. I swapped for a Motorola micro usb, and it works.
I downloaded an app to show mA rate, and with original cable it goes at about 360 or 450 mA. When I use Motorola cable it goes to 1900mA and proceeds to raise battery %.
What can cause this? The plug looked little dusty, I stuck a twist tie in and out (like on bread bad) and tried to clean it, but there's no difference.
Also there's no pin 4 on my cable, the ID pin I think. That seemed to be common for Samsung, so guys, what do you think caused cable to go bad, or am I missing something?
Also I use BlackBerry charger it says 800mA, this will charge it.
Thank you.
Could have just gone bad. Batteries go and all the time. I just had o swap out my sisters amdnmine for new ones because they wouldn't hold a charge for more than 6-7 hours. So its possible you just had a faulty one. Btw the phone is meantnto charge slowly. The faster your battery charges usually means the battery is giving out. But in your case you found out it was the data cable.
Could u tell me which app you used to show mA charge rate.

No pretty sure it's the cable. Used cable on 2A nexus charger, and it only did 300 mA.. I wonder where I can buy a good 4 or 5 foot usb cable for not too much money? The default usb cable length (3ft) is usually too short to reach the outlet for me. =(
I just googled this.. cheap 6ft samsung micro usb.. great prices from local places like walmart and amazon.
Although you might wanna add 2000mah. Lol
300Ma means your USB cable has no Power wire and you are just getting power from Data wires
460Ma is what you would get from a Data USB port
1A is what you get with a good USB cable and Charging Data port
1.2-1.9A is what you get with a good USB cable and Wall/car charger that can provide 2.1A.
good USB cable= 2core for power with 24AWG wire size and 2 Data wires at 28AWG.
Not longer than 6feet
