[DEV REQUEST] Rotate animation from Galaxy Note - Galaxy S II General

Ok guys, so I know ICS has this feature already, and we're all optimistic about the abilities of our devs and the already leaked ICS build. BUT, the galaxy note DOES have rotation animation in Gingerbread/TW, so I find it surprising it hasn't been ported over, either by our devs or samsung. I know its little insignificant eye candy but hey, I'm not running my dual-core phone at 1.6GHz for nothin Would be nice to see it in a gingerbread rom while we all wait for a perfectly stable ICS...
(I assume this belongs here and NOT in the dev section as I did not create it, if not move it)
EDIT: I should have asked, since most of the time when I see these threads I say "Because you haven't made it yet". Maybe I should have asked rather then if anyone had tried copying the framework "file" (framework.jar?) and seeing what effect it had on the gsII. I know they're different resolutions but it may work *shrugs*. I'm not opposed to experimenting myself but a starting point (or simple 'Nope, tried it, not happening') would be nice.

It's already been done. I have it installed and, except for a few small glitches (mainly in Gallery application), it looks very good.

it has been done here

Awesome, thanks guys. Guess I didn't look hard enough :/ running now, works great with the gallery fix

It's the first search result for keywords "rotate animation". Just sayin`.

Graphic Glitches on HD2 GB Sense Roms

enough is enough
its starting to get really annoying seeing people constantly asking
about when the gfx glitches will be fixed ,even though 2 or 3 posts
above theres someone has already said when they will be fixed
i can probably count 30 or more posts in differnt threads in the last 12
hours asking that same question
so here it is in a nut shell and read it really slow
the gfx glitches on GB Sense roms will be fixed when HTC releases the Kernel Source Code, untill that happens we will have those small glitches
so please out of common courtesy for the Devs of the sense roms
stop asking when the gfx glitches will be fixed every other post
Unfortunately I say let trolls roll. I just ignore moronic posts that have been asked before whenever I search the forums anyways

When you say "source code," do you mean the HTC Sense source code or the source code of the custom ROMs from which Sense was ported? Either way, it seems likely that it'll be a while before either will be released
EDIT: You edited it with more description. Thanks!
When the gfx glitches will be fixed?
it's bug not in videos drivers in the kernel, it's bug gralloc library
Does anyone know if these same issues are effecting any other phones?

Thanks for the information. Now i can stop asking when the gfx glitches will be fixed

What do the glitches actually look like? I have a Sense rom installed but a Froyo. So, not sure what they look like. Can you post a screen shot or direct me to a post that shows?
I rarely notice the glitches on the Sense 3 ROM I'm using. But I figure when a Sense 3 ROM is released that is closer to the HD2 in hardware specs...like HTC releasing a Sense 3 ROM for the Inspire 4G/DesireHD, the glitches and bugs will continue to be an issue. Although they are a monor issue in my current ROM.

I also didn't know what glitches where, but....
Yesterday I tried the Pyramid port from dungphp and there they where, the nasty little buggers!
As I don't have a screen-shot from any glitches I'll try to describe it for you.
Here we go...
They seem to appear when there's graphical activity (i think).
Like for instance in scrolling text (like in the app Quick System Info) and in the text under the scene (loading preview) in the scene picker in Sense 2.1 and 3.
So the glitches are mostly seen around and through text.
It's no more than little white lines completely running through your white text, making it hard(er) to read.
It's there, sometimes annoying, sometimes not.
For me it was one of the reasons not to stay on the Pyramid port or use any other GB Sense rom.
Luckily we have many roms to choose from here
Here you go mate, hope this clarifies it somewhat.
Thanks for the explanation. That helps out alot. I think I will just stay with Froyo. It's been working great for me so far.

Can anyone post a youtube of the newest version running with HWA to see how it compares with MIUI?

I can tell you that the latest version is running pretty smooth for me, the UI just seems faster and I can run the Chrome Beta which I couldn't even load up using MeDroid. HWA even at this early stage is giving my N1 a whole new life.
Very promising ROM but far too buggy for me to leave MIUI for it. :/

I flashed the P9 release yesterday (my first ICS release)... pretty smooth in general, Quadrant scores are not far behind the scores I had with CM7.1 (998 with evervolv P9 VS 1039 with CM 7.1)...
Got the same issues as stated in the "not working" section, plus the clock crashes (to set alarms) but that could be just a question of wiping cache/dalvik again.
Coming from CM, I miss all the customizations options in this ROM. Dont get me wrong, texasice did a fantastic job with the ROM and kernel development, especially in figuring out the HWA part...
But I will surely try MeDroid Remix (as soon as it's new release with HWA comes out this weekend) to see what it offers... looking at samuaz's thread, it looks a lot more customizable and coming from CM, it might be just what I'm looking for.
I will surely donate to both texasice and samuaz as well for a fantastic job done on their part, otherwise, we'd be probably stuck with Gingerbread forever.
I know plenty of much newer phones than ours that don't have a mod that can run chrome properly.
That said, if people are playing around with older (more stable?) versions and want to give some of the reboot fixes a try, look up market id com.jrummy.sysctl.config to set the memory without the new kernel or messing with scripts.
A lot of the CM stuff you might be used to is available from other programs. I mostly miss the brightness hacking and night mode filters, but I found a separate program that can make my screen dimmer to use as a night mode. The way the notification toolbar works is slightly different too. And Trebuchet is nice, but not that much different that I can tell.
I have an issue with p4 through p9.
I used trackball wake on build p3 it worked like a charm, but now when I press the trackball, pwr or vol buttons, the soft buttons are lighting but the screen remains black, I have loaded p4, p6, p7, and p9. All Roms work fine initially and appear trouble free up until the phone goes to sleep. After the phone goes to sleep the screen won't wake no matter what I do.
I have tried several SD cards, tried to turn off wifi, tried to change swap sizes from none to 256.... Not sure what else could be causing this???
Any ideas anyone?

So I got my phone running on the latest p11 finally. It works great, has been running for days, no reboots, pretty fast and seems stable so far... AND battery life has been awesome!
What I found was the CWM recovery was jacking my sd card when I partitioned it. I tried 4EXT recovery and all has been well after that.
No obvious issues other than camera preview...
Sometimes while on call the mic stops responding.. People calling me are not able to hear me..
I'm running p11 and not facing any other issues except the known one like camera preview etc ...
Anybody else facing similar issue?
*le bump*
Please do not let this topic die.
New rom is out. I had problems with wifi. No work around seem to work. I wait till the next version which I believe or hope to be stable one. Have to thank texasice, the rom is super smooth. ;-)

i think he posted a rebuilt p12 in the thread. it might be on the op page by now.
I just installed p13 today, it seems to work fine. The interface is a bit sluggish in places, for example Google Play is quite slow, and buttons don't always respond immediately. Is that normal for this rom?

Thanks, I tried the 0314-kernel and got slightly better results in the Quadrant benchmark (1004 as opposed to 937). But it didn't make a noticable difference in interface responsiveness.
It's not dreadful, but just not nearly as good as FroYo. But I'm not gonna expect any better since this is just a community work-in-progress rather than an official release.

[Q] [REQ] Bareboned ICS

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to ask if it is possible for someone with an working dev setup to make a kind of bareboned AOSP ICS with just basic mods like volume skip, power shutter, statusbar widgets, su and extended Power Menu, although I for one don't need the last one? I think everything else can be done with apps and everyone can add the apps he or she prefers.
Coming from AOKP because of some problems, I'm really missing such features in Peter Alfonsos ROM atm.
To me it looks like one can get a ROM with all possible features (wich make ROMs not that stable) or a ROM nearly stock.
Is there anyone with me?
PS: I appreciate the work of all devs here! I'm very glad to have a device with such high quality ROMs! Without the community support, there would be nearly no support by the hw manufacturers. But I think, the less code is hacked, the less problems are. It's just that AOSP lacks some nice features like the obove mentioned.
Slim ICS has exactly that and practically no other bloat. Pixel ROM probably has all these too now. Both are heavily based on Stock ICS and change as little as possible besides the features you stated.
Thanks!
To be honest, I have not tried every ROM out there. I checked the threads of both ROMs you mentioned but did not find that volume skip mod is integrated. But when it comes to listening to music, no touch screen beats hard keys so that was the main feature I wanted.
I'll check them out both and let you know!
Thanks again!
EDIT: Okay, just flashed slimICS and so far it looks like the way to go! Just have to test its stability over the next days!
BTW am I blind or is it not mentioned in slimICS thread, that volume skip is integrated? I checked the thread more than one time, also I had slimICS on my phone some time ago and I don't rememeber what I missed that time...
It is integrated in slim. Don't know if its mentioned. Likely the same scenario with pixel but haven't used it recently. Both great roms though so might be wise to try em both.

It's available in General UI settings under ASS unless I'm mistaken.
I'm also one that can't live without this volume skip MOD
I think it's not mentioned in the thread because there are so many features under ASS.
That's why the dev only mentioned something about this new ASS.
Yea, I already got where the option is. Thanks! But I just didn't try the ROMs because I always read the changelogs and all, and although I am flashing regulary I want to come to a point, where I stay with a ROM more than half a day It just seems that volume skip for krarvind and wildestpixel is not that important (but why did they integrate it then ) or it is so essential for them that they took it for granted.
Either way, for now I'm happy with slimICS and perhaps I'm going to try Pixel ROM later!
Have a nice day everyone out there!

Probably dumb questions

Not new to Android, the forum, etc... Just new to THIS device.
I am looking to get solid opinions on two things...
The best ROM for this tablet. But something stable, working properly, not a lot of bugs. There is a lot of cool development going on for this device, but trying to wade through it all can be a bit of a handful. I don't care about overclocked kernels and things like that. I just want something fast, stable, full featured, etc... Taking the stock ROM, and making it even better.
In the past, Cyanogen was the go to ROM for my DroidX. Blew me away. On the Rezound, my current fav is ViperREZ. Maybe that gives an indication of what I am looking for?
Second question, the launcher. My main goals are speed, eye candy and features. I have used Go, Apex and Nova on my phones, and Sense 4,0 is actually pretty slick. ADW was nice as well.
But are any of those really optimized for a tablet? I am looking for something that is very functional, but that also makes me say WOW! every time I use it.
Suggestions?
Sigh. So many threads asking about the "best" ROM.... why don't you just try them all and see which one you prefer. All have faults some more than others. You'll get different answers from everyone because everyone has different preferences on what's good.
It takes all of 1 minute to flash a ROM... you could quickly sift through the available ROM's to see which one catches your eye at first.
im using paranoid android. its based off of cm10 plus you can change switch between tablet mode, phone mode, and phablet mode on any app you have installed. until there is a full version of cm10 or aokp this looks like it will be my rom of choice. i agree with the post above, just flash some and see what you like i just chose to answer your question an not be a d about it. good luck and happy flashing
Well, playing with all of them, if there are known issues, which most of them have, can be like finding a needle in a hay stack, you know?
I will say though, that this launcher is impressive. I used it on my phone awhile back, but it had some glitches back then. It has been updated since then and on a tablet it makes a lot more sense.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spb.shell3d&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
For now, hell, the ROM may not matter much as the UI is completely revamped and very cool.
I did say that it might be a dumb question. LOL
I wish CM10 was fully baked for this device, that would rock.

Cool, I will check that one out.
Anyone know how to take a screen cap with this device, on the stock ROM?
Is this app even working on tablets? Btw its cool but u will loose a lot of stock android features, at least i miss them there.
You could wait for charmeleon app, thats kind of a launcher app. You could google it. It will be released in september i think. It was a kickstarter project and i am a backer so i will get it this week already, i can report later if u want.

Actually working pretty well. The 3D effects really come alive on a larger screen. If I could take screen caps, I would, but have not figured that out yet on this thing. hehe
Power+Volume Down should take a screenshot.
I've flashed 3 or 4 roms, and always restore my stock backup.. I haven't found any that are as smooth as the stock build as of yet.

I agree with this post, the only way to find out what's best for you is to try them all. I did that I came to conclusion that the Jellybro nightly kang is what's best for me with 170 DPI mod to bring out tablet UI. Loving it now. I tried the other "hybrid" ROM but didn't like it because I naturally love the big (or small) resolution which give me a more virtual screen estate at all times.
Good luck

Hmmm... what is this 170dpi mod you speak of?
Vol down and power does not screen cap like it does on my phone. Weird.
And last thing... How does one get into Recovery? I can do it from the OS with Quickboot, and selecting Bootloader or Recovery, etc... I just backed up the phone to a Nandroid using CWM, the one that is touch screen.
on my Rezound, I can pull the battery, hold vol down and power for a few seconds and get into Recovery in the event that a Flash is wonky and bootlooping or whatever...
How does one do that on this device?
If your not 'new' to this forum then surely you would know "best ROM?" threads aren't really tolerated..

1) I am not new.
2) And had I just asked for the "best ROM", I would expect your non-helpful reply. I felt that if I explained the criteria of what I was after, then perhaps some other people that went through the selection process could point me in the right direction rather than trusting to trial and error.
See, I apply the same standards to others that I apply to myself. In the 17 or so years that I have been on forums(going back to Tom's Hardware Guide on the original Delphi forums), and even having moderated several over the years... I have never once told someone to use the search button, or "just figure it out", etc...
I always answer questions, perhaps in more detail and length than most would, and so I guess that I sorta expect the same courtesy of others.
If someone says that they are looking for X,Y,Z, I don't tell them to go try dozens of ROMs and hope that sooner or later they stumble across the one that has X,Y and Z. I try to say, "Hey, ROM's are all subjective, but here are 2 or 3 that are exactly what you are asking for"... or something to that effect.
Regards,
Dave

I find that cwm won't open up for me if I power off then volume down then select recovery and all that. It just hangs on the black screen. So I just use adb or ROM manager. Or then advanced power menu.

Not a bug or anything, just letting people know that the first boot will take a while. Don't worry if it sits at the pixel boot animation for longer than a few minutes.
hello, it's for an opinion, I'm with Carbon ROm and SNAPPATCH, I have a concern:
* 1) with the autofocus of Open Camera .... autofocus has trouble with close subjects, I tried all focus modes but it's still the same, typed 15 times its screen to have a correct focus, my photos always come out with just a little blurry (and with luck no ...)
2) when taking the picture, the clarity of the screen is still there but to view the picture the intensity of the screen drops a little bit and does not give the effect of having taken the same picture, it's normal ?
So, thank you for a nice answer and good work on SNAPPATCH

You don't even tried the Real World Performance such as Task switching or Gaming Performance? X-Reality? Sounds not like testing for Me...
And what is Safe Charging? It does Quick Charge (3.0) as Safe as Possible. Otherwise would it just start heat up or totally stops the charging since there is a Controller for such Things.... Besides that seems the Device to stay a lot Cooler while Charging (Booted in Android).
Don't get Me wrong. But Posts like this are the Stone on the Development Grave here. It just tells People that something is sh**, and they don't even think about to try it out. Half of the Posts i see on the Xperia Forums are non Sense, complaining, or feature request. That's isn't helpful to anyone and just keeps Devs from joining the Development here. See the TWRP Thread from Myself5 or the Kernel Thread from AndroPlus (Both long Time Contributers). It's a wonder that Myself5 is still providing his Carbon Builds on the Forums....
To be honest, besides the ROM from Myself5 and My Patch is there nothing great to find for the XZ Premium. If You can't believe that go back to Nougat or use this trashy ROM from Turbo which contains non working "Tweaks" and seems to be 90% based on Superrs Kitchen without additional Optimizations (My 5 Years old Brother can do that). Just removed some Content and Copy - pasted a Kernel with the DRM Fix. It's sad...
And before i start to talk more about the Problems here am i out for now. New Patch is up and i'm looking forward to more Enhancements which You will NEVER get on Stock!

hi Miustone...... i know how you feel...... if i would get upset with all reports like that, i would be 10 years older..... get use to this.... here in xda, this is normal.....
he did his best.... some people are good reporting issues, some others don’t.... you need to get the positive and re-evaluate the negative ones..... just don’t take it personal...... i know, some times we are not in the mood.... i know.... but i learned a lot, from forums like these..... believe me, i've been in all....
you did an impressive job coding all these scripts.... i saw them all...... this tell me a lot from you...... not everyone can see them.... users, just use them....... and they don’t know the effort it takes, to get there....
just enjoy your passion, coding and developing..... my respect.....

Thanks for You nice Words Mate! I really take My at off to You for Your calmness! I'm 24 now and around 6 Years posting on XDA. I still can't accept that XDA has changed over the Years, and i think that's My Problem. It's not the Users Fault, XDA just mutated to another Place and no one can change that except for the Owners of this Site. And i don't see that coming. XDA is still under Construction since Years (DEV DB, Thread Features, Site Designs, Post Editing), and there is no End...
I looked often around for other Places to share My Work, but looks like i have to live with that here... At least do i know that here are still some Friendly Devs and Users, and that's what keeps Me here at the End. So Thanks again for Your Post! And keep You also up Your ROMs! It would be really Silent in our Forums without You...

After days of using, here's my simple feedback.
(G8142,lastest official CarbomROM)
1.Battery life is as good as,if not better than that of stock.
2.When slipping the screen,it lags.(compared to stock)
But i believe it is the rom to be blame.
3.Actually game performance is not good, for example,Fate/Grand Order and HearthStone, the animation of which lags.
4.The Pixel-like UI is cool! i love it.
keep developing, and i will stay on AOSP

Thanks for Your Feedback!
I can't tell if the Patch is causing it or not, but it runs just well on My Axon 7 using AOSP Extended. Same for Gaming or Multitasking. Graphic intensive Games are running more fluid and with less heat, and the App switching is much faster. But i see the Lags all few Seconds on the XZP. Are You also using the Carbon ROM?
Think i will try out pure AOSP after some sleeping...
And yes, i will continue the Development! There is much left to do, and i think a own AOSP OS from Me including many of the Patch Features will also come in the next Time (AOSP Project for Xperia Devices). At least at this Point should be all Lags be part of the past...
Hope to see You around again! BR
Try change g google play services and the lag will go.

hey, i have tried the latest AOSP by SonyAOSP team, and now i am on it.
It is smoother than stock, without any lag.
however i could not boot into recovery, which makes me unable to flash the latest Snappatch.
i think we are getting closer to it...

I'm on the Beta right now and all seems to be fine with the latest Patch Version. Hope You can also enjoy it now!

Great to hear so far, but what's the Problem with Your Recovery? Mine works fine here...
Have You tried flashing the last One from TWRP.me with Fastboot? The Patch should not affect it in any way. So it's a really strange Issue... ?

Yes indeed, with yesterday compiled Sony AOSP TWRP is broken.
With the whole source from the end of March all was fine. But I got weird errors with this patch which rendered the phone unusable at all.
Sadly I have no clue how to debug a recovery. TWRP only worked before first boot.
