so sometimes when i get a txt from an Iphone user they show up as square, is there a way to get it to appear as the smiley or symbol its supposed to be?
I'm not really sure but if you use either handcent or go sms pro it will show the intended emoji. Stock messaging cannot parse it.

Ok so the missus has a BB bold 9700, when she sends a txt message she usually puts some kinda daft smiley face and all i get is etc is there something i can do so i can receive the faces ???

From what I understand you want to receive image smiley instead of text right?
In the SMS it is always text... what some phones do is showing you a graphic smile instead of the text... the HTC Messaging Client does not do that...
You can try another messaging application...
Is there anyway to lock a text message on the phone using the default text messenger? Probably just use chomp SMS if I can't find a way, but I'd prefer just sticking to the default one.
Ok I notice I cannot access my address book and just add all the people that I would like to send the text to at once. It seems like I have to type their name in order the a drop down menu to add them. Is there a way to a access my phone book and add who every I like to the text message instead of looking them up?
The stock app on the phone is ok but I prefer Handcent Sms app free from the market. A lot of people also rate ChompSMS highly too.
On Handcent you can put a tick next to the name of who you want to send to from a list however a word of warning you have to have their mobile number first on their contact page in your phone book. Its the same on a couple of apps that use phone numbers so it took me a bit of fiddling to start with to sort my phone book out but its a one off job and works perfectly after that.
Handcent gives you speech bubble style of interface and is very customisable with the colours/fonts/contact photo etc.

I have looked everywhere and was unable to find anything about the sms emoticons.
How can I get the little green alien Droid back into my text messages? I see them when I press the smile icon on the virtual keyboard, but when I press send all I see are the text version. I also only see the text version when someone sends me a text. I do use the handcent program, but they only contain the round green smiley faces. Is there anyway to be able to get that feature/option transferred from my Droid 2.2 build FRG22D to my Rooted Droid2, 2.2.20 Build VZW?
You will have to get Handcent or chompSMS from the Market to get your smiles. BUT DO NOT UNINSTALL THE "TEXT MESSAGING" APP FROM YOUR PHONE OR YOU WILL LOOSE MMS. Just set whichever of the above you get to default.
has anyone noticed, in the stock SE program, that in the text msg input window the extra white space (2 lines worth) above the text input. anyway to get rid of it?

don't think it's possible unless you use handcent sms or any other app like that
consider that those 2 lines are the ones for the person who will get the sms
