[Q] Rooted CM7, no market Missing Apk(s) - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
My nook color was on 1.4 (latest bn update), I dual boot it with cm7 following this set of instructions - youtube.com/watch?v=OxDEZ1Fc6iE
when started, the android guy didn't appear and it didn't ask to log in to my google account. in the menu, there's no market.
went to settings - manage applications - there's no google service framework nor market.
I then rooted it instead with cm7 again following - youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0
same thing, no google service framework, no market.
I've dual booted, rooted, unrooted to 1.0, rooted, over and over again but no luck. I doubt there's something wrong with the files, is it not reading/installing it properly? I downloaded the files through the right links multiple times.
since then, I tried all sorts of ways to try to download the apps but nothing works as well. I also tried installing the files individually (google service framework, onetimeinitializer, setupwizard, talk, vending) but it keeps saying "Application not installed."
Once I did manage to download market, but when I open it, it just gets out and crashes.
Is there another way to root it with a sure way of having market on it? or what am I doing wrong?
Please help. ): I'm not an expert with all these things so if you could explain it in simple terms.

So are you running from an SD card? Did you download gapps.zip and put it on the boot partition?
Sent from space

yes, I rooted from an sdcard. I followed the exact instructions on the video - (youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0) Is something missing? Am I suppose to partition the sd? By my understanding, partition is something like splitting the memory on the sd? is it?
Sorry, I'm a real beginner on this.

Well the video you followed on Failtube has you installing to your internal memory. Did you flash the google apps zip while in clockwork?

My connection is horrible for video right now so please forgive me for not watching the video... did you include the latest GApps.zip and install that too?

Put the latest GApps*.zip on a sd card and install using ROM Manager.

yup I tried doing that too. the files still didn't appear.
Okay, I managed to install CM7 and market! I followed eyeballer's guide at forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227&fb_source=message through Koopakid08's link on his/her signature.
There was market on it and it opens. but doesn't start dowloads. I did the usual of delete the caches, reboot and now, it downloads fine.
I then overclocked it with www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mvwmx9qSZY guidance. not much of a guide but i managed to find the files and installed. but it overclocked to 1.1ghz, not 1.3. I don't really mind, but just wondering what I did wrong.. I'm thinking of trying it again but using the latest phiremod 7.1. I used the old 6.1 yesterday instead because I wasn't very sure.
So, now my question would be do I have to revert it back to cm7 then overclock it again? or can I just do it over what I've already done? or must I start from scratch, unroot, root to cm7 then overclock?

You can just install it as an update using ROM Manager and not lose any data. Just make sure the only boxes checked when you update are wipe dalvik cache and backup.

I was about to update it, but now, my google account keeps saying my password is wrong, and I can't sign in. What can I do now? I tried updating the rom from rom manager but it says there's no updates available.
if I were to do it through recovery, I need to burn the clockwork on the sd, put the files in, and just install zip? or do i need to format system and data first?

Go to download a rom to choose the rom you want.
You should install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards. If you want to update manualy through recovery then you need to wipe dalvik cache and then use the install a zip option. To boot into recovery hold volume up on boot.

I went - Rom manager - Download ROM - Error occured while processing the ROM list/Error occured while Developing Download list
How do I continue? ):
If I do update it manually through recovery, I need to install the phiremod v7.1, do I need to install gapps_phiremod_7.1 as well? the instructions are gone since phiredrop deleted his website. I can't find any other instructions for updating from 6.1 to 7.1
I still can't sign into my google account, keeps saying my password is incorrect. Any way to fix this?
"install clockwork to your internal memory using rom manager and then you won't have to fool around with SD cards."
so thats how it works. hahaha, that'll be great and less of a hassle for me. I've been repeating the burn clockwork, install, flash all sorts of roms too many times.

1. Try pressing menu- clear download cache and see if that changes anything.
2. Yes you should flash gapps again seeing how you are having problems with your google account.
3. I've never used phiremod so I am not sure if that is a problem. I would suggest that you go with just virgin CM7.1 but I'm sure phiremod will be fine too.

I found out the problem to my google account. turns out, my account was freezed by gmail because of suspicious activities. so, I changed my password and it all works again. yay!
update: OH!! after I signed into the google account, I can go into download roms! double yay! I'm downloading it right now, will see if it works once done! question, would I still need to download gapps again?

Not if they are all working fine.

Okay, after all the trial and errors, my nook color is finally up and running awesomely on cm7,phiremod 7.1 at 1.2ghz.
Went to rom manager - download rom - phiremod - v7.1 - reboot after that, I had to do gapps again because some files like market wasn't in the menu, but on the homepage. rom manager - download rom - phiremod - gapps - reboot.
so everything is working well so far.
thanks to all the help I received, especially koopakid08!

If you want to easily overclock your nook to the Max, along with adjusting voltage to handle it and adjusting speaker gain and other stuff, look up Nook Tweaks (icon is a nook outline with gears inside). The process is very simple, just make sure you install it to the device not SD (I made that mistake), because otherwise it won't set the CPU speed and voltage settings on boot (even with the boxes checked). I am able to get my nook running smoothly at 1300MHz, but the option goes up to 1600. So wherever your nook's Max is can be found with this app. No need to readjust your kernel, just install the app and go. If you want to make sure that it is working on boot, download autostarts, which shows what starts during boot.

True but you will not gain any performance by going over 1.2, only worse battery life and the chance of overheating.
Sent from space

Well I certainly don't think I know any better than anyone else, its just that I recorded a pretty decent increase from 1.2 to 1.3 when I ran a benchmark using Quadrant Standard. That's the only basis I currently have, but I figured since Quadrant Standard got good reviews that it was creditable... do you know of a better benchmark?

Oh, sounds great but I think I'll keep it at 1.3 rather than 1.6, I don't want it to overheat it or something. I've already downloaded the app and tried to change it to 1.3, but what is the CPU stepping 1,2,3,4,5? I changed it to 800, 900, 1000, 1200 and 1300. Is that okay?

meaning you installed the gapps update.zip correct?
Correct. if i go to setting-applications-manage I have the market and market updater listed but with all the options greyed out. No sign of.gmail or other gapps.
Fix permissions, then try again.
I recommend fixing via ROM Manager, because it appears to do a more thorough job...
Go to the market and downlad the Google apps you want. You're installing the tiny gapps zip and that's what it is supposed to do.
If I recall you have to flash that google add on pack to get the google apps. When you do this you'll reboot and setup your google account.
Go read the initial installation directions and see what it says.

I have had this issue with other apps which I flashed to /system from recovery, flashing successful only to see them not come in the app drawer and then I realized that I had bad sectors in /system and just flashing CM7 eats up all the /system , I have created a thread about that here. may be of help to you.

[ROM][2.1] Eclair Strikes Back v2 [2011.06.23]

Since there's been some interest in comparing the 2.2 ROMs with the 2.1, here are some stock eclair nandroid images based on the Cincinnati Bell 2.1 ROM that can be used in OpenRecovery without flashing SBFs. You can use these to switch between 2.1 and other 2.2 ROMs without bothering with RSD Lite/sbf_flash.
Of course gallery key, camera and FM radio work well on these. Although, I've been having market problems (paid apps fail to download). Hopefully that will resolve itself if/when market decides to self-update... In the interim, I recommend using something like Titanium Backup to migrate your paid apps.
Eclair Strikes Back v2 (2011.06.23)
This is a tweaked version of CBW_eclair_STR_U2_04_1E_1.zip with some tricks we've been using in 2.2 (expanded apns-conf.xml, JIT from FrozenEclair, memhack to move dalvik-cache to /cache, egl.cfg hack to disable software rendering).
eclair-strikes-back-v2-beta.zip (the beta is now final )
Changes since v1:
ext-partition support compatible with the stock221-derived ROMs*
Automatic swap support for fjfalcon's fastboot kernel
Automatic support for link2sd (either FAT extra partition or stock221's /sd-ext/link2sd method)
Additional cpu governors (conservative, interactive)
Market upgraded to 2.2.7
*dalvik-cache on /sd-ext is not supported by default on this ROM.
Previous release: Eclair Strikes Back v1
eclair-strikes-back.zip
2011-06-16 Update to fix market on ESB v1 (upgrades market to 2.2.7)
Stock 2.1 (Cincinnati Bell)
This is a rooted version of Cincinnati Bell's STR_U2_04.1E.1 with OpenRecovery support pre-installed.
CBW_eclair_STR_U2_04_1E_1.zip
Hey Mioze do you have the app2ext script that is in the Bluesteel rom? Might try your eclair nands with it and see what i get.
I've finally successfully downloaded and installed a paid app from the market now on Eclair Strikes Back. Market is still old one though... not sure why it's taking so long to update to new one. When I did a factory reset on stock 2.1 soon after I bought the phone the market updated itself pretty quickly IIRC.
Still, this feels so smooth and fast....
EDIT:
And don't seem to be having downloading issues with any apps, be it paid or free anymore. Maybe you'll have to manually replace the market.apk with the new one though, since I'm not sure it's ever going to self-update.

And what about moving applications to the sd? available or will be applied app2sd?. Open recovery will still work? I have some applications that are supported only from 2.2, they can no longer be installed .... of course there will have to sacrifice something.
I at the continuing problems of delay in opening and closing apps, malfunction of the camera, out of trouble and delay an application to load the launcher and would return to around 2.1, but I also like the space for application installation and open recovery.
PS: It's easy to return to 2.1?
download on process
kinda miss the haptic feedback hahaha..
thx a lot Mioze..
I'm pretty sure you can only move apps to SD for 2.2... since I never used it (I never have so many apps installed at once that it's neccesary) I don't mind losing that functionality.
There are a few apps from 2.2 that I like, most notably the new gmail and youtube apps, but those are minor sacrifices for me really.
Open recovery is installed in both those links. I find the camera works much better on 2.1, seems much faster in taking and processing pictures.
In any case, it is indeed very easy to return to 2.1 and then return back to a 2.2 ROM if you don't like it. You take one of those links (I'm using eclair strikes back) and flash it through nandroid just as you would any other ROM that we have here. And you can flash back the same way if you don't like it.
Be advised, there are currently some issues around the android market for some reason (just see the posts above)... I'm thinking we might have to replace the market apk.
Anyways, I personally am loving it.
EDIT:
Oh, you might have to setup the APN's as well.

I intend to make an updated eclair-strikes-back to add app2ext support and additional governors but I probably won't have time until later in the week. I view link2sd as the eclair equivalent of froyo's native app2sd, though. Link2sd may already work with fat as the second partition, but I haven't tested it yet because of the market problem. The market problem is #1 on my list when I get time.
And yes, these 2.1 ROMs will keep OpenRecovery intact and you can just flash between 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs the same way you would switch between 2.2 ROMs.
Thanks for the work Mioze7Ae! Let's try it, you know, always gives a bit of fear making a mistake, but gradually removes the fear. I do not know that flashing. It's like applying an Update? I apply a copy nandroid?

I know how you feel. I always used to have fear/apprehension when flashing a ROM. I've done it enough times now that it's all gone by now though.
Anyways:
Download the ROM. Unzip it. Copy and paste the folder (should contain 4 things in it boot.img etc...) into your SD card under OpenRecovery/Nandroid/ (if you've gone to a 2.2 ROM you should see that ROM in the same place where you're putting this). Anyways, launch open recovery and do recovery boot or hold volume up while pressing power on (if your phone is off). If you get an image and nothing happens, you may have to go into open recovery and select install recovery system before doing this - if you have a bunch of weird pictures in your gallery including Darth Maul then you don't have to worry about this. Then navigate - using the volume keys to move up and down and the camera button to select - to Nandroid, select restore, select Eclair strikes back, select restore all. Once that's done, make sure to wipe data/factory reset and then wipe/clear dalvik cache and cache. Then reboot and it should work. (First reboots are long).
You may have to setup your APN's also.
Excellent. Thanks, sounds simple ... downloading ..... then tell how it worked.

They actually go in nandroid/openrecovery/, it's the updates.zip that go in OpenRecovery/updates/ so it's easy to remember that wrong. I'm always adb push'ing to them so I only noticed the mistake because I've got the muscle memory from typing them all the time. Gotta love the consistency
hey mioze7ae, using it right now btw, is it possible to change the read_ahead settings to 2048 instead of 128? i can manually replace the file but once reboot, it changes back.
thanks!
Manual market update
I replaced /system/app/Vending.apk with the 2.2.7 com.android.vending.apk found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875067
After doing this and rebuilding dalvik-cache I have the new market and I am able to install paid apps! I'll make an update for it tomorrow, I have to crash.
Two things you can get from market before you flash. APN backup/ restore and SD speed Increase. You can backup your APNs and then once you get to the eclairs, restore them. SD Speed Increase will kick up your SD cache to 2048, instead of 128. Both are free.

Yes. But if you have to use open recovery for whatever reason, you'll need them. You can either click install recovery as needed (which creates the pics) and delete them after, or the best thing to do is get an app that just hides the pics from gallery - so they are there when you need them, but don't interfere. I saw an app "Gallery Excluder" or something floating around in the XDA Android Apps section - that would work. Or a gallery like QuickPic let's you hide things as well.
EDIT:
Nevermind, Gallery Excluder hides folders only. There are other apps though, I believe.
Just an update on progress with ESB
I've done some testing and Link2SD already works with the released eclair-strikes-back but currently only when using FAT for the second partition.
To get ext support in, I'm trying to get the darktremor a2sd scripts to work. They look high quality and robust and should handle swap gracefully when booting the custom kernel as well (current status--some rare hung boots with a flaky SD card when using the latest beta scripts, will try the stable release next). There's also a GUI in the market for managing the SD card (currently only Froyo+, I'm inquiring whether the developer can add eclair support).

I am hoping that the ext will come through. If I am using the sd-ext/app folder on the Steelblue ROM, can I leave all my apps in there and flash your eclair with ext support (when ready) or will I have to use Titanium-migrate? I would think that it really wouldn't matter for most of the apps, except FroYo specific ones like Flash 10.3 but not sure.
p.s. Are you going to call your next version "Return of the Eclair"?
MD5 Check failed. Does this have something to do with the fact that I bought my phone in the middle east?

cant from market

so with the alphaRev X i managed to get s-off, and to get all the way to getting cm7 on my phone. So that´s greath, how ever everytime i try to install something from the marked that is bigger than 4-5mb i just cancles the download, with out giving any error. Smaller apps work fine, how ever google maps, angry birds and so on. Does any got an idea how to fix this?
I had the same problem exept I couldn't download ANYTHING. Try flashing another Kernel, that's what fixed it.
I tried this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995301

witch of the kernels did you use? and did you use it with cm7 ? i got a feeling its a cache folder that is messed up. not something kernel releated.
this worked:
1. Backup SD Card
2. Partition your SD Card with Rom Manager (I used 512mb/64mb swap)
3. Install Simple2Ext (You can find it in the Android Market)
4. Open Simple2Ext and toggle on 'Download Cache'.
5. Now, reboot your phone and you should be able to install Angry Birds/Maps/Other big apps.

For those who do not know how to get the google apps on the Touchpad including the market place Here is what you need to do:
Assuming you already have CM7 installed (I followed "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XDmKGmn4vs" and got the files from the Youtube description) and have it all up and running all happy:
1) Download "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip".
2) Be running android on your Touchpad.
3) Connect the USB to your computer and Touchpad.
4) "Turn on USB storage" on your Touchpad.
5) Copy "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" to your root directory of your Touchpad.
6) Turn off "USB Storage", hold down the power the button and hit reboot, select recovery.
7) Screen should say "CMW-based Recovery v5.0.2.6. Use the volume buttons to navigate to "install zip from sdcard" (the sdcard is the memory built into the touchpad that is shared between android and webOS, NOT a REAL SD card) and press the home button on the bottom of the screen.
8) Now select "choose zip from sdcard", press home button.
9) Navigate to "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" and press home.
10)Navigate to "Yes - Install gapps-gb.........zip. Should install.
11)Press power button and select "reboot system now", hit home.
Reboot into android and setup your google account. If the google account setup doesn't come up right try restating your Touchpad and see if it comes up. If nothing try to reinstall gapps again.
Sorry for being long winded but I wanted to make sure that my steps are clear.
Once you get the market place working you can get Netflix and many other app but remember that the CM7 is in Alpha. Most apps are not likely to work but some just might. Try it out.
I am experienced in android from 2 prevoius devices, but this never happened to me before.
Market is there, works perfectly, but once I try to install any app, it keeps Downloading the app forever and ever, I know this is not a CM issue, its Market or google issue, just wanna know if some of you guys have been in the same situation and did you find a solution.
After google I tried:
Deleting the market cache and data.
Reinstalling gapps via CWM.
Moving apps in SD to internal data then deleting .android secure folder
Uninstalling Market from Titaniumbackup and then re installing from it.
deleting cache/ dalvik cache.
Fixing permissions
None of those things worked...
From what I've seen, add "update-" directly in front of gapps, or whatever zip you wanna flash to the touchpad for that matter, works well.

I keep getting fc's its my first boot up and I've tried this about 5 times
I don't know what's wrong with your setup guys, but mine went flawlessly. I mean in 10mins I already had android on my tablet, incl CWM recovery + working gapps. Been playing with it for a few hours, had no problems, installed a few themes (honeycomb colors) and tried different launchers, overclocked it..
It's an amazing port, there are some bits and pieces that need to be fixed of course, but other than that i havent had any serious problems.
Just follow the instructions correctly and you should have any problems
Everytime I restart and hit recovery it just reboots into cm7 what am I doing wrong thanks

I am having the same issue..
I believe we forgot to install moboot, could someone explain how to install after cm7 install thanks
sent from 3d greatness......
just put the moboot file, the gapps and CWM zips in the cminstall folder
then run again ACME installer.
It will skip everything already installed and will go directly to your new packages.
Enjoy....
PD: nobody has an idea how to fix the never ending downloading from market...? I cant download anything... so frustrating...

Well just use USB drive in android, and move the files, if you cant boot CM7, you better go to webos doctor and start everything from zero.

I had the downloading problem too. At first things were downloading fine. I think made the setting in the Market to ask for a PIN and after that things wouldn't download. It didn't hit me it may be the PIN I rebooted and still no dice, then went into the Market settings and turned my PIN off to download and install things and it downloaded apps. I didn't turn it back on to test because heck didn't want to rock the boat
I can boot cm7 I works great but I cannot go into cwm to install gapps. I just need to know where I move moboot in cm7 to make it install. Sorry for asking so much I just cannot understand how to do it. Thanks

you can do this way, boot to webos, enable disk mode, copy the moboot into cminstall folder. reboot, and you are able to go to cmw and install gapps.

Doing so brings me to the large USB icon used to install CM7, but we need to get to either CWM recovery, or first go back to webOS to add gapps to the cminstall folder and then redo the install of the novaterm cminstall (at which point)

When I connect to USB mass storage while running CM7 do I just make a new cminstall folder at the root of android, and then proceed like before? I cannot find the cminstall folder I made for webOS when looking through the files while running Android.
Thanks!
EDIT: Followed nemosomen's instructions, fixed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302433

All I had to do was reboot the touchpad and the never ending downloading issue was solved. Once you reboot go in search for the app and redownload it, even if it shows it is downloading in the my apps section

ur using the power up/down to move along the menu and home button to select, rite?
I have installed it, and it's working. But, when I try to buy an application, this message appears: "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found". Honestly, I don't know if it's happening because of this fix. Is there someone with the same issue?

CM9.... What did I do???

I have a question for some of you. I had been doing some research on CM9 for NC. I found a download, ( Though not on this site) along with some additional help from this website.
I installed everything to my NC and low and behold, it all works!! It looks just like my Toshiba Thrive tablet, except it's showing that its running Android 4.0 version.
Now for the drawbacks.... it has NO sound, NO Market, etc... Is there any way to install those? Or has this been the problem all along??
Thanks!
What links you got the CM9 from?
I got CM9 running with sound and market is working just fine.
I knew better than to trust another site, but ... I went to androidfamily.net. It had a "how to" to install CM9 ...
Could you give me downloads you used?
Thanks alot!!!
Check out the Samiam nightly builds in the development forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444943
You basically need to flash three files that are available from there. Latest nightly main CM9 ROM, Google Apps (Gapps) and the telephony-permissions fix.
That will give you market, working sound and best CM9 for Nook at the moment.

I see the Gapps file, and the telephony-permissions fix file, but where is the CM9 main file you mentioned? Am I overlooking it?
I tried again, using the same CM9 file, and then installed the Gapps file you mentioned along with the telephony permissions fix. Still no market. Everything else worked fine!

So do I just download the link that has today's date by it?? That's what I did, and no market. I went back re-read everything, and then downloaded everything all over again, and again... No Market. Everything else is working fine.
Are you connected to wifi? When loading a new rom, sometimes the market doesn't show up until hooked up to wife.
If this doesn't solve your problem, then I would start from scratch. Can you boot into CM recovery? If so, go into mounts and storage and format data, system and cache. Back into main screen and factory reset and wipe cache partition. (so many debates on if this is all totally necessary, but I have had glitches with installs when I have not done every one of these steps in this order).
Install CM9 (I do recommend samiam's build. It works flawlessly on my nook.)
Choose reboot option in recovery. Connect to a wireless network.
Samiam has included Rom Manager in his build. I use this to boot into recovery. Install Sam's gapps, telephony fix and boot animation fix. Reboot.
Hope this helps. Post if you need more detailed instructions.
I don't think you are flashing the right ones or are missing one of the 3. There is a patch that fixes market, boot animation and SOD issues. In unofficial cm9 forum.

I am getting a little confused. When I clicked on the CM9 build....it shows parent directory and then all the nightlies. Which one do I use? I also tried to just wipe it and reinstall CM7... I did manage to get the market running the CM7. So, I think I must have just downloaded the wrong nightly??

You can click on the latest one (Jan. 28.) and download. I always check the end of samiam's thread to see if there are any hiccups on the latest builds. I am running Jan.26 build (haven't updated yet) and it is running beautifully for me.

I have tried everything! and still no market! I believe I'm doing everything correctly, because I downloaded CM7 again, and had the market.
Is there anyone out there with the same type problem that corrected it?
Thanks!
From Recovery you want to format cache and system (under mounts). Also format data unless you already have a good working set up and you want to preserve all your settings, apps etc.
Then you should be flashing 3 zips in this order
update-encore-2012xxxx.zip where xxxx is the latest
gapps-ics-4.0.3-sam-noinit.zip from the misc folder
telephony-permission-fix.zip from the misc folder
The gapps zip in particular has the google apps including the market. Note that if you are comparing with the CM7 MiRaGe ROM then that has the gapps in including the market already in whereas with CM9 you have to flash them in separately.
If you have formatted data then when you reboot it should take you straight into a setup where you set up wifi, then sign in to your google account. The market app then should work OK.

Went to CWM and did the above ..went to mounts and storage..format cache and system, and data. After I did this, I hit the power button, once to go back to the screen to install the zips. Now, when I hit that power button, the following message came up 4 times... E: can't mount/cache/recovery.log. Could this have something to do with it??
I tried your instructions again, and No Market. You said that it would take me to a screen to set up wi fi ..but it doesn't. My screen is black, with a clock, a picture of a camera, and box that says gallery.
I am just going to have to go back to CM7!
I think I finally thought it out. For whatever reason when I put the gapp file in my NC it shows installing..but I don't think it worked. CM7...No problems! Have installed twice today and both times had the Market.
CM9... runs great...but no market!
Strange. The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that you have a bad download of the gapps file.
If you haven't tried it before then I'd suggest downloading it again. You should then just be able to flash that one on its own.
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------
As a double check the zip should be 16,874,937 and you should be able to open it on PC and see the apps files in the system/app folder with vending.apk

I checked, and BTW I'm using gapps-ics-4.0.3 -sam noinit ......my download is 18,275 KB ? and when I clicked on it to check the apps files as you suggested this is what it showed... 3 folder icons with MACOSX, META-INF, system. And then directly underneath the folders were 3 other things with the same words as the top 3 ... NO vending.apk ?? I clicked on the one that had system, and all the apps are there. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Would you tell me which gapp file your using?
Thanks for helping me!!!
I go the Gapps I use from the link
http://sphsolutions.net/android/Encore/Nightlies/Misc/
However, it looks like I got a slightly earlier one (probably 1 day before). I retrieved the current one to compare them. The later one has the YouTube app in which explains the difference in size. All the Google apps are exactly the same as in the one I use and the Vending app is there as well under system/app
If you can't see that folder then there is something wrong with your zip download.
The other difference from the earlier one I had is that it looks like the later one had been put together on a Mac system as it has the extra __MACOSX folder and a few .DS_Store folders which are not really part of the required zip but should be harmless.
Just to check I just tried installing with the latest nightly 20120128 and the later gapps version and I got the market OK.
So two thoughts: either your download is still bad or maybe you have signature verification turned on in your clockwork and that is causing this gapps install to fail whereas the main ROM is passing and also the gapps when you do CM7. I have signature verification disabled (which I think is the default). Try toggling the signature verification menu item and get it set to disabled.
What and where is the signature verification? And..... how do I get there?
