Ok I am going to ask this question once, state all your opinions don't hold back and people please do not start a flame war. Be civilized and to each their own opinion, we are technically the same android family and also both use T-Mobile.
G2 or myTouch 4G?
Pros and Cons

There are plenty of reviews/comparisons out on the web. It's really personal opinion.
Do you want a physical kb? That's one big difference been the 2. The myTouch is candybar style, thin & "sexy", while the G2 is bulky in comparison sure to the physical kb, and the hinge mechanism is strange and loose whether you'd hold it in a way to notice or not.
Also, if you put value on it - Quadrant score on mT4G was about 100 higher than G2
Do you really want stock Android, or would you be happy with Espresso or a replacement launcher?
Again, it's really personal choice. Both are top T-Mob offerings right now and people are very happy with both. Personally, I don't like physical kbs and the bulk they add, and think HTC made a poor choice with the G2 in using an odd hinge vs something similar to the mT3G Slide.
For sure, the 4G is a sweet phone, a beast under the hood, and feels both sleek and solid in your hand. Also got OTA to 2.2.1 within hours of walking out of store.

Its going to be a close discussion. I would prefer the phsyical keyboard and vanilla Android of the G2, but that wonky hinge makes me edgy.
I'm leaning towards the MT4G myself, the Sense/Espresso UI can likely be removed once full root is achieved.
I went off contract last month and have been using a G1 for the past 2 years. When I was looking at phones I came close to purchasing the G2 but the hinge seemed awkward, so decided to do some research on the G2.
Read a lot, not just a few complaints about the hinge, random boots, lose of data, and dropped connections for the phone. The complaints about the G2 really turned me off from buying it. The complaints about the My Touch 4G seem to be mostly personal preference about the UI, with the phone itself being reliable.
So the My Touch 4G it was. I won't receive it until Monday, so I can't comment on how much I will like or dislike it.
I also had a G1, until yesterday. So far I have to say I am thrilled with the My Touch.

I would go with the mytouch as well. Here are my thoughts from another thread.
I'm gonna keep using both but the mytouch is the superior phone. For me, the overall function of the mytouch is the reason. There are some things that the vibrant does do better though - 1. The samoled on the vibrant is definitely better (I love the true blacks and contrast ratio on this thing) 2. The speakers are also noticeably better with richer and fuller sound 3. The GPU is also more capable 4. Audio quality for media is better (mytouch and HTC phones in general have too much bass and not enough detail) 5. The camera while lacking flash is more capable 5. The multitouch, responsiveness, and feel of the screen is better 6. And the last thing is the notification bar is the best I've seen on an Android phone (the ability to have those toggle settings, change brightness by swiping, and change music tracks are amazing). Everything else, the mytouch does better. 1) GPS is much better 2) Solid feel while the vibrant felt plastic and creaked 3)FFC 3. Camera flash 4. Froyo 5. Optical trackpad 6. Much better battery life 7. The user experience is buttery smooth with little or no lag on this thing 8. The notification led

I'm debating between the two phones myself, would like to see some screens of what the MT4G looks like with LP/ADW with a stock look.
Regardless, I'm not going to buy either until they have full root. In one of the G2 threads, some one's posted about how newer G2s have a modified hinge design with a spring.

Functionality wise the MT4G has it all. Gps inside my house was within 4 meters almost instantly. The htc widgets are just pure win aswell. I thought about the G2 but the hinge on the model phone at tmobile was so loose if you turned the phone on its side the keyboard would fall open by itself so it was an easy decision for me right there to go with the MT4G.
Doh! I just noticed that I talked about the vibrant vs the mytouch instead of the g2. This is really a hard choice as both phones are great and geared towards different crowds. G2 is for the pure android enthusiast that loves or needs the physical keyboard. Mytouch is more for the casual crowd. I would personally go with the mytouch for its slimmer profile, FFC, toucscreen seems to respond and feel a little better, stock 1ghz processor vs 800mhz, and 768mb ram vs 512mb. The g2 has a better look IMO, physical keyboard if you prefer, stock android for faster updates, and the screen seems to be a little more saturated.

I loved the G2, but the problem was the hinge. After just one day, it would open just by breathing on it. I couldn't stand it. While there are some things I wish the MT4G had from the G2, overall, because of the hinge, the MT4G is the winner.

Funny you say that because I picked up the MT4G on Saturday and am thinking about returning it for the G2 because I don't like Sense. Part of the reason I chose the MT4G was the hinge issue you mentioned. I would never use the keyboard anyway so it seemed silly to buy a phone that had one.

Totally feel your pain cause I was in the same boat. Had the Nexus for almost a year until I replaced it with the G2.
I really like how the G2 lies in your hand when you're browsing the web in landscape mode with the keyboard out although I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard mainly because it doesn't have dedicated number keys and the size of it makes typing slower and more strenuous than on the G1 (which I had before the Nexus).
I was also a bit annoyed by the way the keyboard backlighting kept turning itself on and off in medium light conditions without having the option to have it always on when the keyboard is used.
The hinge is a big question mark with some disaster potential. I guess only time will tell. Having said that I didn't mind the looseness too much. I also really like the slick business look to the G2 although it is definitely bulky when compared to my nexus or the MT4G. Overall it's an awesome device though and I definitely grew font of it during the 3 weeks I owned it.
When the MT4G came out I decided to give it a try cause I still had 10 days in my remorse period. The genius button and mysense took some getting used to. Definitely prefer vanilla android. LauncherPro, visionary, and Titanium Backup helped me remove a lot of crap and get a bit more vanilla flare back although there are also certain things I like better about the sense UI (copy/paste, eMail app, facebook app,)
I like the camera app better on the MT4G. Simply takes better pictures. FFC isnt a big deal for me but certainly doesn't hurt.
I definitely miss the soft buttons on the MT4G. The plastic hard buttons feel a little cheap and I would prefer not having to actually click them. I guess its cause I've been so used to the Nexus. I also agree with parts of the Engadget review about the lag of aesthetics. Overall the MT4G feels a lot thinner and smaller though which was what won me over.
Verdict:
I still have 4 days left in my remorse period but decided to keep the MT4G. Both are good devices so it totally depends on what you want. In the end it was the thinness that won me over to the MT4G and the black looks actually quite slick. Good luck deciding and just remember, you really can't go wrong with either one.
I'm not a sense fan either, I use launcher pro plus. I got this setup like my nexus, fast too. And I use widget lock screen app

Wanna define what you mean by "all the sense stuff"? Not saying it applies to you but sometimes I get the feeling people say they dislike sense because they have read so many times that stock is better without really knowing what the difference is.

I'm not a fan of any UI overlays. None really seem to add much to the Android OS that isn't already there, but they do slow OS updates to a crawl. Even with their faults, HTC pushes more updates to their Sense phones than other manufacturers.
I spoke with a VZW rep this afternoon, sent them an email inquiring about cancellations and what the penalties would be. They offered me an early upgrade, but when I told them I was more interested in a stock Android device, the rep told me that I should wait until after Thanksgiving because they may be better able to help me then.
I didn't exactly plan on buying a MT4G/G2 next week, but this does have me curious.
Hello everyone. I recently got tired bit of HD2 and would like to get a new phone. Nexus one and moto defy are in my price range. What are your thoughts on N1? Is battery life good? What about screen, is it of nice quality?

Personally, I'd go with the N1, but it depends on what your intentions are (my criteria relies on dev support, etc).
I feel that the battery use is heavy, but I can't compare to the defy. I think the screen display is great, and while you can complain about fuzzyness, or whatever from the pentile I still think it's more than adequate (though it struggles in sunlight). The multi touch issue may be a problem if you want to game etc, but I don't game and never have a problem with the digitizer.
Each phone has it's own problems, as does the N1. It's just a matter of matching your needs to the right phone...

Well I should have started with what I expect from it. I do a lot of browsing, reading, and most important - watching videos via flash player and Skyfire. I do gaming, some MMO and strategy/building.

N1 is a great phone, and has a lot of life left. Have you thought about a g2x? Its a new phone but there are quite a few for sale, and fairly cheaply. Its got a great screen IMHO and would be better suited for gaming and video watching.
But after 18 months I'm still on my nexus one and its as able as ever.

I don't like motorola because of locked bootloaders. Now it is possible to install roms but it may be tricky. I would like run ubuntu or backtrack ok the phone, so I guess I should choose nexus. However, what are the things you don't like in a nexus one? Is it not multi touch? does it have 3d chip? Is it so bad for games? Any other issues

g2x seems to have dozens of issues. Starting from random reboots, all the way to loss of signal. I was thinking of it too, but I somehow do not trust LG brand that much
the defy is more of a mid range phone while the n1 is/was high end.
the processor on the defy is quite slow and you will notice a speed difference.
the n1 screen is also a lot nicer due to higher res and amoled as well as actual size.
is performance doesn't matter too much then the choice is more about size, do you prefer a larger screen or smaller phone..?
I sold my brand new mytouch 4g on ebay for the going rate of around $280.
Not a horrible phone in terms of speed. T-mobile too.
N1 is prettier tho.

I have a g2x (about to sell), got a cheap upgrade and my phone was totally free of problems. CM7 is now running pretty smooth on it, making it a great phone in my opinion. I ended up reverting back to my N1 because I like the form factor, the g2x just a little too big. I'm now banking on the next Nexus, really hoping that they put a 4" screen (which I really enjoyed on my g2x) in a smaller build.
That said, the N1 is rock solid. Its a known quantity, the issues are negligible, and there has been a ton of development contributing to a great little machine. CM7 on it is just fantastic and only getting better, making N1, 18 months since its introduction, a better and better phone (my battery life with the latest CM nightlies is best its ever been).

I believe they both have 3.7 displays. What about Adreno 200 GPU? I believe I have the same CPU and GPU on my HTC HD2, but you know, this phone is not native to android OS, so would Nexus One's performance be better than one of HTC HD2?

Some say the pentile layout used in AMOLED in N1 causes the text not sharp enough. I guess it is what fuzziness means.
But personally I can't really tell the difference. Plus, you may try to find a 2nd hand SLCD N1 instead of AMOLED one.
AMOLED seems a bit too saturated for me, while some of my friends praise it... picking SLCD or AMOLED will be your own personal choice
One thing for certain is that the MT on N1 is far from perfect, and it is a hardware issue, there is no solution (and never will be) to the crappy MT performance on N1.

I bought an N1 when It came out and loved it. Over time the little issues the N1 had started to annoy me. So I bought an HD2 and put android on it. To me HD2>N1

I have HD2 now. I am tired of battery life now. It gets top 4-5 hours while playing. I had to carry portable charger at work)

I have an N1 and i have to say it is really the best phone i have ever held...
But it is not perfect, it has a few problems which depending on you, may be a deal breaker:
1- Internal memory is only 512mb, out of which, only 192 mb is dedicated for apps... which leaves you with next to nothing ... of course this is all solved with apps 2sd, darktremor or other solutions, they remain in the end, a work around... So it is not as good as having a good internal memory storage.
2- is the lack of front camera, which for me, makes the phone lacking in terms of future growth, especially when all handhelds get video calling apps like tango or skype, and you would be stuck behind the curve.
N1 vs defy:
My friend just got a defy, it has a smaller screen than the N1 and a lower processor speed than the N1, but it comes with water resistant and shock resistant features which are a bonus.
In the end its up to u... and what you like.
For me, I love the N1's community support, the HUGE list of custom roms and modifications, and the amazing trackball and the trackball LED notifications. As well as its cool looks and the fact that it kinda still is Google's flagship phone and an amazingly sturdy and cool phone... I love it!
Edit: oh and as for battery life, I am getting much better performance on CM7.1 RC1 than i used to get when it was froyo, I usually get 1.5 days with average use and smart usage (wifi/bluetooth/3g off unless i need them and screen brightness on auto)

I have an HD2, and I just added a second line so my girlfriend could get the FREE Sensation, and I just spent a little bit playing around with both of them side-by-side.
They've very similar, I didn't really notice that big of a difference in speed between the phones. The brightness and vividness of the Sensation is of course much better, but it doesn't really "BLOW AWAY' the HD2. Don't get me wrong, it's a really nice display, but the qHD didn't make me gasp or anything. (unlike the SUPER AMOLED+).
In quadrant, she got 1440, and I got 1348. In speedtest.net, she got about 3.1 MB/s down, and I got 2.7 MB/s down.
The weight, thickness, height, and width are all about the same, with the Sensation being slivers less in each category.
The back of the Sensation is rounded, letting it sit in your hand better, but I think it also makes it feel less "sturdy". Maybe that's just because I had a rubber case on mine.
I was insanely jealous of her for the last few days while knowing that her phone was coming and she'd have a better phone than me, but honestly, now that I'm playing around with it a little bit, I'm not too worried. Sure, it has better technical specifications, dual core, more RAM, dual camera, better screen...ect... but it's nothing crazy awesome.
If you're on the fence on whether or not you should upgrade to the HTC Sensation or not, don't get me wrong; it's an amazing phone, just not "necessary".
Anyways, save a bit of your money, and instead just buy an extended battery for your HD2, or save up for the Galaxy S2 or Samsung Hercules, or whatever else is coming after that. I know I will be. Plus, with the incredible support by the community here for hacking new ROMs onto it, I'd stick with the HD2 for the time being.

I know exactly what you mean, yesterday i was with a friend that bought the S2, I was so jealous ), but only until we putted our phones side by side, there wasn´t a difference between speeds, the screen is much bright of course, but it feels somewhat artificial to me, the camera has very nice colors, more vivid than the HD2 runing Android, better but not huge difference, and what blowed me away was that my HD2 was faster to open some apps, I know that the his S2 is bone stock but that reminded me that the time to upgrade to something new hasn´t come yet, and when i started to boot 4 different roms my friend couldn´t believe it..
The HD2 is still a great phone..

All of those are about the same on Sensation stock as they are on HD2 CM7...
This makes me feel so much better, but at the same time feeling disappointed that there hasn't really been a major improvement in easily recognisable performance

Well, we are comparing custom ROMs with bloated stock ROMs so it's not really fair.
If you loaded up a fully working CM7 ROM on a sensation it would obliterate the HD2, but that is far off, so for now the HD2 for me is the preferred phone. I may even wait for some quad core action before I upgrade.
with hd2 in some ROMs you can get 3000 points in quadrant with a bit of overclocking and of course playing around ppp/rmnet, switching roms, you can go up 3,3mbps in download, but we got an awesome development on this awesome phone, and we're still waiting for new Desire Kernel and GB to solve all current problems
i will not buy the htc sensation because i can buy 3 hd2 with that price, and i wouldn't feel the BIG difference, but in the future, sgs2 will be my phone (i never buyed a phone >180€, maybe i'll have to wait 2 years and i'll use rock solid custom ROMs )
Have to disagree, the Sensataion is far superior on every level, the camera/video is arguably the best out there, the colours are vivid (dense and rich), the speed is obviously faster, it boots in seconds. Opens apps very quickly (as quick as my g2x which has been modded with cy 7, netflix and web browsing, lightening on the 4g network... I used a sensation for about 2 weeks, couldn't wait to get back on my HD2, the stock ROM on the sensation to me is pretty bad, the UI lagged, the camera was ok but 8mp isn't a must have for me. It didn't seem to open apps that much faster than my current CM7 ROM, 4G was slightly faster than HSDPA, I dunno, just didn't wow me.

Do you think it's worth the money, especially when there's the g2x for a much cheaper price?
I'd take a Sensation over the g2x because
1) there is going to be much much more development for it.
2) qHD
3) the g2x will probably never be able to run Sense.

I agree with you, the Sensation IS superior on every level. But it's not so incredibly better to warrant purchasing a new $600 phone. (Unless you have tons of disposable income.)
I know that the Sensation bootloader just got unlocked (or at least is planning to become unlocked in the near future according to HTC). So that'll give it some hacking support, but still....
Yes, the camera is much better, but nothing to blow someone out of the water.
For comparison, I went from a HTC: G1 original Android phone, to a HD2, and patiently waited with the WinMo 6.5 until Android on SD was released. It's a WORLD of difference between a Android HD2 and an original G1.
I think I can justify waiting for a Samsung Hercules, or a Samsung Galaxy 3D.

what a lot of us dont really get the point is to accept that yes..the HD2 is getting old and yes other HTC device's are getting better hardware and software in comparison with the HD2.
However we still claim HD2 to be the best device..just because we have the power to run multiple OS's. No doubt thats a strong point but we will have to let it go someday.
I am thinking myself to go for the HTC Sensation....but doesnt mean i will not use my HD2...

No, the reason is that we can run multiple ROMs of the same OS optimized to run about as well/better than the stock sensation ROM, the only thing the sensation has over the HD2 IMO is the camera and 1080p playback, other than that I would much rather have CM7 on my HD2.

No, what I actually mean to say, is although hardware and software is getting better and better on other devices, it's worth it to wait and continue using a still very relevant HD2, updating the ROM's to current OS's, so you can hold off buying a new phone and instead save money to get an even BETTER piece of hardware 4-6 months down the road.

true that. but look after a point we too know that a native android device will still have an advantage over our Hd2 roms. You know...i have been running the American android SD version for months now..but when it comes to NAND somehow I cant make my mind...i still love WM6.5 and the battery life is great....something which i am a little skeptical on nand android !

Getting rid of a Thunderbolt for a Sensation is ridiculous.
This would fall under "General" or "Q&A" but we all know that no one clicks on those tabs anymore, in addition this has a little to do with development. Seeing that the mt3gs is ancient in smartphone years and that our major developers have moved on, I figured we could start a comparison thread. Before I start I would like to thank all the teams that worked hard for all of us to better enjoy the "slide"; Team Cyanogen, Arrayray, CR, CM, Guitarist, Highly Medicated so on and so on. (if I missed anyone its not personal your work is also appreciated.) With that being said its time to discuss what's next..
I myself am almost due for an upgrade and would like the communities opinion on where to go next. Right now I have two options MyTouch 4G Slide versus HTC Sensation. So far the advantage of mt4gs is the awesome camera software and hardware, but lacks in the screen section which is not qHD. I'm open to discussion and opinions, also if there is any other phone you'd like to mention please do so.
It would be nice to get a mt4gs since a lot of our devs went that route and I'd be able to keep following them but I seen some nice development in the Sensation community as well. Any opinions?

I have seen them both and I have to say the sensation is one of the best phones I have ever seen. It has a beautiful design and a really clear camera with 1080p HD camera. If you ask me, id go with the sensation. But that's only my opinion, in the end its all down to personal perspective. Whether you like a slide out keyboard or you like having a large screen. It all depends what you like.

Agreed, on both posts, I do have a long time before I can upgrade (got this as a gift) but i figure I will jus pay cash for one from like amazon.com or something! and The Sensation is Absolutely hands down the best Android Phone to date! HOWEVER, while I am still a slide user, i will develop for it proudly!
Just got a 4g slide today and am liking it the way it is so far. I HATED sense on my 3g slide but Sense 3.0 is much better IMO. Camera is awesome as well. I need the hard keyboard so my choice was easy.

Thank you guys for your opinions and input. I went and demo'd both phones today and I found something interesting.. the HTC Sensation is shipped with 2.3.3 while the mytouch 4G slide ships with 2.3.4. When I checked for an update on the sensation nothing showed up. Im sure they'll have the update soon

Thx for the mention, but i feel like all i did was get people's toes wet concerning gingerbread with sense. Really wish i had time to do more for everyone. Thankfully team medicated worked hard to bring a working gingerbread rom for us.
As far as a new phone, its almost scary to buy a new phone knowing something better will be out in 6 months or so and we're stuck with that phone for another 18 months. Personally, i've looked so many times at other phones that i think the store reps know my face by now lol. I just cant bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars to get with the hottest handset. Its tough, but waiting till im due for a full discount on a new handset. Im really intreaged to see what google's next handset is going to be. It should be out by mid 2012. I just hope its better than the nexus s. Lets face it, nexus one blew us away, but the nexus s was a bit of a let down. A beautiful handset, i just expect a google phone to be the best out there.
Personally, at the start, i really hated the Slide and was getting disappointed that i even bought it. It's only thanks to developers here that had the SalsaSlide made possible that i've actually started enjoying using it.
As for a new phone, i don't run after technology, i've learned that it's a losing race and if my phone keeps working, then i see no reason of upgrading it just for saying i have the latest. What can i say, i'm not an apple fanatic that will rush to spend hundreds just to get the exact same phone in white
Anyway, if i'll be fully honest with you guys, once they get Android on the Fuze as native OS. I'd probably be switching to it, so instead of upgrading i'd be downgrading
Guitarist you deserve to be credited, in my opinion you introduced gingersense to the slide which gave devs the jumpstart to want to incorporate sense back into roms. Thanx again. Undoubtedly there will always be another smarter phone that's just how it goes. I also understand Sefy also, it is not only money draining to keep up with the latest handset but it is a bit cliche for that matter. (my secondary is still an iPhone 3gs, never upgrading my Apple handset)

I've been using a G2x since June. I do miss the slide's community though. Not that it should really affect what phone you get.
I decided that now that I have a phone with not just one, but two 1ghz cores I can rest, haha. I hate looking at the G2x forums though, at least general anyways. It's full of trolls and rudeness, lol.
I kind of wish I had stuck it out a little longer and got the mt4gs and feel like I upgraded rather than just went to a new phone completely.
It IS fast though. I got lucky enough to not get one of the terrible ones.
Wow I felt like this a while ago and I am torn about getting a new phone when there are a lot of phones out there and its hard to choose what to get next. Mt4gs looks like a great phone and might jump ship to it.

The developing community for the Slide slowed down a long time ago. I stopped really even checking back, haven't logged in for ages. I'm due for an upgrade on September 16th, and I'm DEFINITELY going for the HTC Sensation. The screen is bigger, super high resolution, 1080p video shooting, and better battery life. I liked having a physical keyboard with my Slide, but it is cumbersome as it makes the phone significantly thicker and heavier. On an MDPI device I would go for the hard keyboard, but on HDPI, ESPECIALLY qHD 4.3" screens, I have no problem typing on the screen's keyboard. It's worth the thinner and lighter phone. Plus, on the Sensation, almost the entire front of the phone is screen space. The mts4g seems to have a thick frame around the screen, especially on the top of it, which I don't like. Yeah, sure, the camera features of the mts4g are certainly attractive, but at least for me, since my Slide camera has been broken ever since I got the phone and I was never that big of a camera user to begin with, the Sensation is a MUCH better bet. Both phones are the same price.
I had the mt3gs since It's release, after much thought and consideration, I decided that like this forum it was dead, so I upgraded with the myTouch 4G Slide. I love it, the keyboard, the screen, the look and feel. It's just like I ran my mt3gs through an update machine and the MT4GS was the result. Although it doesn't have the giant 4.3 inch touch screen and while it is not a not a super light phone, I have had a great experience so far.
The camera, let's start there, fast, clear, macro settings better than any phone I've seen so far, don't believe me, my Google+ profile has a pic of a mosquito I took with no zoom. (Link on profile) the sweep shot, the HDR multi shot that layers different white balance shots up to get great definition and color in bright light, (backlit pics as well). The action shot and shutter (as long as the camera app is already open) is just as fast as they claim, but if not held very still can be just slightly blurred, but better still than most mid grade digital cameras on the market. The only thing keeping this camera from being an actual replacement it the lack of an optical zoom. Oh and night shots....they are pretty nice as well.
The screen, 3.7" inches, Super LCD, is crisp and clear, with resolution that has honestly impressed me. The best part? You have a screen that's big enough to enjoy watching videos on and you don't feel like your gonna break your thumbs trying to reach the screen's extremities. Although I do wish it was just a little larger when gaming.
The processor, a 1.2GHz Dual Core, Snapdragon, is a beautiful change from the 600mhz of the mt3gs, finally games and apps that none of us could enjoy like Gun Bros, Need for Speed, Dungeon Defenders, and Google Earth are smooth and flowing. Even Quadrant standard's video benchmarks are now enjoyable to watch.
The keyboard, which is the reason anyone wants the phone is quite different from it's predecessor's or any others I've seen or used. The buttons are almost flat and press very easily, almost too easily at first but after about a week of using it, it's almost a pleasure to use, just be careful of the back button when typing the letter 'M', I have lost several Facebook posts, even part of this post so far.
Sense 3.0 is beautiful but it and it's components eat up 3GB of the MT4GS 4GB of on-board storage and around 40% of its 768MB of RAM. And T-Mobile's removal of the 7 screen option and lockscreen shortcuts make it slightly frustrating.
Kid Zone is also a big annoyance, while it is a neat alternative lockscreen geared toward kids is built into sense and not exactly what I would make for a child.
The '4G' aspect is not quite all its claimed to be, in Pittsburgh averaging 3-4 Mbps, but is quite a bit more reliable than I would have thought. The GPS is fast to lock, till rooted it seems, and compass and multiple rotation sensors make it crazy accurate and very sensitive. This makes it great for gaming, almost as good as a gyroscope, if not slightly better in some aspects. And the Bluetooth 3.0 makes file pushes fast and simple. And the usb transfers at around 4MB/s making video upload easy.
The over all feel of the phone is awkward at first being just slightly thicker than the HTC glacier(MT4G) yet not as thick and stocky as the mt3gs, it has grown on me more everyday, and I am very happy I made this choice.
My over all rating of this phone would be a 4.5 out of 5, it is a beautiful piece of technology, and should be relevant for a while to come.

Speaking of other phones, does anyone know if the Nokia N9 will work on tmobile? It's a sick piece of equipment and IS the best camera for smart phone. The UI is effin dope and from specs and reviews this phone is killer. Any help will be appreciated .. thanx again for all the input. If there are any other phones out there please post. I just replaced my wifes MTS (Warranty) with a MTS in red, she loves the phone with CM7 on it and she likes the keyboard all in total I have replaced the 2 mytouch slides 5 times through t-mobile due to hardware failure (Camera, Front buttons, and keyboard issues)
I however just ordered a G2x and it should be here today, I'm not going anywhere though, I have always liked the MTS though it has not been a reliable phone CM7 Makes it so much better. One of the reasons I got a G2x is it has Vanilla android so I will get updates faster (More likely than phones with Sense)

As a fellow G2x member, I say welcome! However to the updates, I'd have to say... Nope. We don't quite have Vanilla android... We waited a few months for Gingerbread and when we got it, it was "half-baked" and still not exactly Vanilla.
But the phone is a beast. Do enjoy it, cause I know I do.
And there's always rooting and roms.
I'm looking to buy a g2.
Firstly, Is there anything that I should look for? Are there specific versions that are easier to root than others/ harder to brick? (I'm coming from a vibrant and they made a bad batch of those that couldn't get into the recovery, so I want to know if there are any similar issues to be wary of)
Second, do you long time owners recommend the G2? Is it a good phone or should I wait for something else/go for a mt4gs?

well if you buy one that is running froyo instead of gingerbread, it will be easier root. i would also say if ur looking for a android qwerty slider, then i recommend the droid 3, but if you can get past the uglyness of the mt4gs then thats not a bad option either. the dz is getting pretty old now

Stuck on t-mobile . Idk if I could live with sense on the mt4gs to be honest, and it seems like CM7 isn't coming to it anytime soon.

G2 is a good buy get it wit Froyo n ur good to go everyday I enjoy it rooted 2.3.5 and long as u flash different roms n boot animation wit music everyday is like X-Mas. I turned my G2 to a Monster. I even snatched sum of the new Bionic stuff onto my G2 now n my boy with the new Bionic is jealous. Listen this Bad boy was built to modify n customize I can't see u nt liking it.

G2 is a robust, highly customizable phone. I highly recommend it.

Its a solid phone. But as others have mentioned, its getting pretty old. Getting close to a year old, which is ancient in smartphone terms. Unless you get a real good deal on one, or a hardware keyboard is an absolute necessity (G2/Desire Z is still probably the best around with a keyboard), I would spend my money on something with more current specs (CPU, memory, etc.).
You might like to know that the HTC Desire Z / T-mobile G2 is very similar to the Desire S.
Difference is that the Z has the qwerty keyboard and the S doesn't.
(Also, the S is stock clocked at 1GHz and Z is only 800MHz, but it is the same chipset so this can be changed with software).
The LCD, touch screen, gadgets and everything is the same.
The S is lighter and slimmer, also looks better.
If you get over the qwerty keyboard you might prefer the S.
The touch screen is very good and I often use it instead of the physical keyboard on my Z.
Also, even though the physical keyboard is good i cant type that fast. Not as fast as on a blackberry (keys are closer together on most blackberrys).
Some people have issues with the hinge and it's hard to replace.
Personally, I would swap my Z for an S right now. But they are both excellent devices and both **** on an iPhone4 for screen quality, call quality and build quality.
Screen is really good for watching videos, colors are so much nicer than on other devices like iPhone4 or Desire HD. It has a noise cancellation mic that makes voice chat sound really good and I have never had a drop out in the 6 months I've had it. It has a metal chassis and is very strong, dropped it plenty of times and it just scratches never breaks. Digitalizer is plastic so won't crack.
2nd hand, you can pick up a Z for about $250 or S for $300 - ish.
OP, really going to have to agree this device is too old at this point. Almost a year old now so I wouldn't buy one unless I got a damn good deal on it used. Plenty of other great phones out there right now.
It is a year old yet still one of the top performing single core phones on the market. If you can get one for $200 or less with no contract bs then I would say go for it. This phone still goes on ebay used for $150+
Know that finding a good case is tough with this style of phone....I recommend the otter box personally. Their warranty is top notch as well.
I also recommend doing the spring replacement to tighten up the hinge. Ever since I did that little mod, I have been more than pleased with my G2. I have had mine for 8 months and I can honestly say I could care less about upgrading my phone anytime soon because this phone does everything I need it to do and it does it quick enough for me.

The LCD, touch screen, gadgets and everything is the same.
The S is lighter and slimmer, also looks better.
If you get over the qwerty keyboard you might prefer the S.
The touch screen is very good and I often use it instead of the physical keyboard on my Z.
Also, even though the physical keyboard is good i cant type that fast. Not as fast as on a blackberry (keys are closer together on most blackberrys).
Some people have issues with the hinge and it's hard to replace.

Desire S and Z are not the same chipset. Z has the Snapdragon MSM7230, and the S has the MSM8255. And there is also a big difference in the MHz rating of a CPU, and simply overclocking it.
Also the S has 768 Mb of memory versus 512 Mb on the Z; the S has a 1450 mAh battery versus 1300 mAh on the Z; the S has no trackpad but it does have a front facing camera. Really, there is not that much the same between the two phones besides the screen size.
IMO, the hinge "issue" is totally overblown. The hinge is designed to be easy to open and close with a light touch. Some people don't like it, and its just a personal preference.
