Upgrade - Droid Incredible General

18 days till im eligible, and it pisses me off that the newest phones are $300. That is crazy, i got family with kids, wife only works part time, i refuse to dump that kinda money. Im actually thinking dinc 2 or tbolt. Dinc 2 free, tbolt $49. I could get bigger batt, case, screen protector, and klipsch head phones and save $150. Not to mention both phones have great roms now. I could prolly get dual core in a year off ebay for $150 then, and sell the other. No way will i pay $300, im not impressed with any of those phones.

Although I completely agree with you, the prices are too damn high, I will br forking down the $300 for the Nexus come January. Why? Because it's a piece of technology I will be using everyday for the next 20 months. I'd rather spend the extra money to get the cutting edge right now rather than save the money and have to be behind the curve.
But hey, that's just me! On the converse, I've been rocking the same laptop for 4 years now because I refuse to upgrade until something substantial comes out, so I totally understand your point of view!

What i find really sh**y is that verizion only gives me a measly 35 dollars twords my upgrade. I have been a loyal paying customer for 6 years now, i pay 65 a month and have spent thousands on phones, and for being so loyal i get 35 dollars every 2 years twords a new highly overpriced phone. It just irks me, as much money as i have spent on phones and service, they should at least give me half off any phone i want.

Exactly, and the new ones just arent that far ahead, im going cheap. I been with them forever, my bill is $180 a month for 2 phones!

You can upgrade your phones at places other than Verizon. Amazon typically has 300 dollar phones on sale for 200 bucks right after they go on sale. They had the Rezound for a penny with new activation on B-Friday.

Not to mention, Costco had them, incl the Rezound, for $49 shortly after that. You dont need a member of Costco to get the wireless prices.

No costco here, we tried the cheap upgrade for my wife, they wouldnt do it inlesss we changes plans. We have an alltel plan
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

I also agree, its getting absolutely ridiculous. So what's the next Verizon standard in a cpl years for new phones? $500-600 on contract? I sure hope not. Ok got the mini rant out lol. Well unfortunately I will be spending the 300 as well for the GN but after I check out other options I.e. best buy, amazon. I Will be keeping Verizon no matter what.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium

I was holding out for the Nexus, but it was just taking too long, and I couldn't see paying the $300 for it, so I snagged an Xperia Play on Black Friday for free and loaded it up with emulators...

I want something rooted with solid dev work going on, im leanin towards the inc2 as 4g just dont mean much to me. Ill see what sales are going on after christmas though.

For me, my Incredible is just fine. I'm going to wait until there are more devices out with ICS and see how that all plays out. Maybe another year or something, see what HTC puts out in that flavor. I just can't see myself getting any other phone other than HTC. I hate Motorola's UI, and not a big fan of my wife's Samsung Fascinate.

Same here i will keep my incredible till it dies. Im not even going to upgrade till something that really makes me say wow comes out. Im not a fan of the larger screens that are on all the new phones. They are hard to fit in your pocket and hard to hold. If you use a hard case it makes it even bigger. For the last 20 years we have tried to make phones smaller, now everyone wants a phone the size of a notebook, which i find crazy. As for dual core that just seems like overkill, after all it is a phone, if i want to play games i have a ps3, and if i want a pc i have 3. Larger screen + dual core = shorter battery life. And as of now lte is non existent in my area so 4g isnt a good selling point for me either. I will stick with what i got, just like the saying says, "if it aint broke, dont fix it".

I normally get pretty good deals from Verizon...I haven't paid for a phone for about 4 years!
That being said, I love my Incredible and will keep using it for some time.

I would check out best buy, wirefly, costco's online, and other places. I got a rezound for 50 on an upgrade. Might wait until Feb. because you usually see drooping prices then.

Sprint Premier, Sell the EVO in july for a full upgrade?

With all these crazy new phones being announced with their super screens and dual core processors, it got me thinking.. Sprint premier customers can upgrade every year. Assuming we got it on day one (me me), do you think we could sell it in craigslist or ebay around late june or early july and make $200? My phone has a spot where anything on a white screen shows up kinda spot burned and the camera lens cover falls off. I'm gonna save these to get a replacement and then sell it. How well would it retain its value in another 6 months? If phones can stay above the 200 mark for a year, then can't we upgrade indefinitely for virtually free (activation fees size)

A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.
I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to get $150-200 for the evo so upgrading shouldn't be too expensive.

LMAO!!! I must go change my shorts...
Lol 300+ would be intense but I'd be super happy with 200. I'm sure we could at LEAST get 150 cause that's about how much hero is going for a year and 3 months after launch. Can't wait for those new dual core phones, lets hope sprint grabs one!

Edit: Although I do love me some HTC. I'm personally hoping for a CDMA variant of the Playstation Phone or some other Android smartphone with a gamepad!
Wouldnt suprise me if you got $300 - $350. I sold a hero with accessories for $250.00 on ebay about 3 months ago.
Sorry to derail... I was laughing at the "A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo." sig, not the price. I agree with the price.
It's not unheard of to get more than you paid for it, because you're selling it with no contract obligations. The comparable "new" price is $450, not $200. That said, a lot of people won't recognize that unless you spell it out for them and think you're ripping them off. But there is unquestionably value in a phone that does not require a contract extension or use of upgrade eligibility.
After a year though, with newer, better phones out, it'll lose some value. But even if you don't "break even," you have to consider the value of having the phone for the year you used it, as well as the value of having the latest and greatest new one. Whatever it's worth on the market at the time you decide to upgrade, I look at it as a bonus.
As much as I'd love to do the same, I don't think I could ever get rid of my EVO

No way, nice! That thing is ancient I made a long post earlier but I guess it didn't go through, I was saying I'll sell my evo a few weeks before the next big sprint phone comes out, or when we know something is coming but it's only leaks and it's not announced to the public yet, that way the evo is still one if the more in demand phones retaining it's value. All about timing, even if it's not before july!

This is my plan as well. Right now you can get like 300. I am expecting 150-200 by summer as others have mentioned. I'd be very happy with that.
Gotta love Sprint. If you're a phone lover and want fast upgrades, it can't be beat. Just wish they had more super phones to choose from instead of just 1 or 2.
On a side note, I can still sell my old HTC Touch for over $50 on eBay, but I kinda like it for nostalgia.

Through a fun glitch with Best Buy and my upgrade I got my Evo for $50. The phone was $200 and I sold my Moment to a coworker who was not eligible for an upgrade for $150.
They were selling for 200+ on ebay at the time, and she offered $200 but she just had a baby and I'm a nice guy.

Get $150.00 for your old EVO 4G

I am not sure this has been posted yet, but for you wanting to get the E3D or another phone, get a $150.00 credit on the purchase of your new phone.
Just did this 10 minutes ago and got my new EVO 3D for $49.99
You can take it to a sprint store, or do it online easily at:
http://www.sprintbuyback.com/
Have fun!
Is this only when you're due for an upgrade or anytime?
You can do it at anytime. As long as it turns on and doesn't have a cracked screen or anything. If you don't have upgrade it would just take $150 off retail price. I wouldn't think that price is going to last much longer seems its being sold with upgrade for $99.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You are right, you can do it at anytime and even use other cellphones, but they might give you a lesser value.
The price WILL NOT last long. There are actually places selling the EVO 4G with new 2 years plan for $29.99.

My wife has an iphone on verizon... I have sprint because of my work... and you know what... 3d beats it!
We bought our Evo's for $119 before any number porting credits or rebates. If we were due for an upgrade it would be nice to make $30 on our phones trading them in for $50 E3D's for a net of about $20 to get into brand new phones. We are more than happy with our Evo's and already have batteries and too many accessories to consider following through at this point.
On my way to the sprint store now to trade in my og evo for a $50.00 3d? Will probably return it in a week though for the photon. Only time will tell.

So my upgrade is available now

Well its that time. Upgrade is available and I can't decide what to do. Get a gs3 now, wait for the note2, or wait till January when my contract is up and see if sprint has their new network worked out in my market (which according to their schedule it should be). These decisions always rack my brain so I need some of you fellow dincers to give me your opinions maybe it will help make up my mind.

One important piece of info you left out is whether or not you have a "grandfathered" unlimited data plan. If so, you should know that buying a new phone through Verizon with your upgrade means you will HAVE to change your data plan (shared data plan). For most people, this is a bad thing. If you want the latest and greatest phone, there isn't much you can do, however if you are willing to have a phone that is a few months old, there is a workaround. If you wait until the next models start hitting the market, that is the time people start selling there current phones to get them. Buy a GS3 off eBay or Craigslist at a fraction of the cost and take it to the store and get it activated on your account WITHOUT having to change your plan.
Even if changing your data plan is not a factor for you, I would still wait till this holiday season to see what new models show up. November is a BIG month for new Android models to emerge and making a 2-year commitment a month prior has the potential to leave you very unhappy with your purchase shortly after making it.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
I actually gave up my unlimited data and went on The share everything with my girlfriend. Hated to do it but saved us $50 bucks a month. Some good points about waiting until at least November. The gs3 looks to have some great developers on it right now. Not sure we will ever see a phone like the inc again that keeps on trucking when it should have died a long time ago. I really wish I knew how sprints new lte network was going to pan out. I would strongly consider changing to them if it was pretty decent.

Have you considered going contract-less and using a provider such as RedPocket or Simple Mobile?
I'd wait another month because Google should be announcing there next nexus phone by the end of this month if they are going to make one this year. Plus HTC should be dropping another big phone soon too around that time.

I considered straight talk but I can't really afford to buy something at the unsubsidized price.
Haven't been a fan of htcs recent offerings. If a new Nexus does become available during the holiday season I may have to look into that. if the gs3 drops in price even more though it would be hard to turn down, depending on what the note2 goes for. If only sprint would hurry up so I could see if their network vision is worth considering.

I see someone already mentioned the grandfathering in concern. On the other hand, I'm not sure how strong of a point that is because I've heard that Verizon will cease to extend the grandfather privilege at some point. Another really lame aspect is an "upgrade fee."
The whole process, if you're not frivolous, really makes you hate Verizon and want to switch to another provider.

I have no idea why anyone would do the buyback program with Sprint - they completely rip you off on the price. (Not saying that in a flaming way, blaming Sprint for that one)
I just put my S3 with my two cases for it on Craigslist for 320 bucks, sold it in a day, and bought the S4 with the cash. Basically a free trade ahaha. You gotta remember that the S3 is still (I don't about about exactly right now) like 600+ dollars off contract so people buying a phone of Craigslist (usually don't have their upgrade) are down to pay decent money.

No not at all, the point of my post had nothing to do with that lol, that would be a waste on Sprint's part.
I read his post as saying he had turned it in for 100 and I was saying that's ridiculous how the OP actually sold it for that little and actually participated in that buyback program. But I didn't want it to come off as rude(wasn't trying to be) so I just added that it was Sprint's fault for promoting such a ****ty deal in the first place.

Who bought their Moto X off contract?

I'm considering doing it, I have the Galaxy Nexus but the power button is giving up...
I'm curious, seeing as though you paid $600 + tax, how long do you plan to keep it? Obviously the Moto X should stay current with android for some time...

I walked into AT&T ready to pay full price but somehow managed to walk away only paying on contract price even though I wasn't eligible for an upgrade. That said, had I actually paid full price, I would still love it just as much and would still be extremely happy with my purchase. I paid full price for both my HTC One and my GS4 Active and this thing blows both of those devices out of the water. As for how long I'll keep it, that depends on what's coming down the pipeline. I switch phones VERY often. I can definitely see myself sticking with this phone longer than I did the One or the GS4 Active though. It is quite the upgrade from the Galaxy Nexus, that's for sure. The GNex isn't in the same league as the Moto X.
You must be making the big bucks to be able to off-contract phones new all the time.
I bought my GalNex for $350 new on eBay about a year ago... I was hoping to get more use out of it, but at the same time I'm not disappointed I "have no choice" but to buy a new phone
That's some luck to pay the upgrade price, I doubt Verizon has overlooked any loopholes there...

I make a decent living but I also use craigslist to my full advantage. I was able to sell my HTC One for $500, and my year old iPhone 5 just sold for $500 as well.
Yeah, I don't know how I got it for that price, but I chalk it up to the ineptitude of the 4 representatives at the AT&T store that took over an hour to figure out how to sell me the Moto Maker card. Something happened when they were making the sale that caused me to lose LTE on all my devices for a few days, and I got an upgrade when there wasn't one. Now the LTE is back on, and I got the phone for less than half of what I was expecting to pay. Sometimes their stupidity can work to our advantage
I would definitely pull the trigger man, you will NOT be disappointed. I feel that the Moto X is the perfect marriage of hardware and software, just like the iPhone is. You have never seen Android run this smoothly before. It is the best possible representation of what an Android phone can be nowadays. Or any smart phone for that matter. I've been through A LOT of phones (including the GNex), so I feel I am qualified to make a statement like that

ATT sales people are jokes most times, I'm looking to sell my HTC Vivid once my X comes in, ATT says they'll give me roughly 50 for it, don't see anyone on CL offering more.

Just looked at them, they have sales on the Vivid's father (Inspire) but none for Vivid and they're only offering 35 to sell it now.

I found a few Vivids in my extended area being listed for $100- $150. I'd toss it up for $150 and hope that you get it sold for $100. If you can get it unlocked you might even get the $150.

Anyone get a non motomaker one from AT&T? I did, and now I kinda want the motomaker custom designed one. Only problem is this is my only phone and I cant do the motomaker unless i returned mine first (and sat without a phone for 3-8 days)

Fist world, off-topic problems.
But I'd return it, if you font like your Moto Maker X you can exchange it for free.

I kind of want to, but that would involve buying a nexus 4, returning my white moto x, getting the card, waiting for the motomaker x, then selling/returning the nexus 4
Oh, and theres a $35 restocking fee plus another $50 in the extra 32GB
I paid full retail for mine on VZW.com. I'm going to keep mine until the Developer Edition drops. Then I'll get the Dev Edition and swappa this one.
I plan on keeping mine for 18 months or so. Maybe even longer. Unless VZW gets a Nexus. Uh - but I'm not really worried about that. Lol

bought mine a couple of days ago, full retail on at&t.. the agent was like, "you sure you're gonna buy it off contract?!?"
lol
Those that bought off contract, why not order directly from moto maker? Did you just want it right away?

Well I have Verizon, Moto Maker isn't an option yet.... But when it is, if they let me buy off contract from Maker (I heard AT&T and Verizon don't let you) , definitely.
