Interpreting these battery stats - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Is there some sort of definitive guide out there that explains how to interpret all these battery stats numbers etc?

Cellstanby looks higher then it should be..but I assume you have installed some App...that is updating/syncing when in standby mode...with no apps installed it should be around 2%.
The screen will always be the major battery drainer...You need to plan already in the morning, how many hours you plan to use the phone heavily, that means surfing the web or watching movies...Since we all bought the note cause we want this very bright screen, we should of course use the highest amount of brightness to you surrive the day...I am still learning this...
When using auto brightness plus let the system and adjust screen power enabled I get the screen battery usage to 22%..which is impressive...sure you get used to low brightness even when watching videos..but when you A/B compare with auto brightness and 100% brightness it looks like night and day...for getting the best video experience you really want 100% brightness... depending on the video content of course..
When having 100% brightness the screen usually takes between 57% and 67% and this is my major complaint with this phone (besides lagging UI)... when using 100% brightness it eats battery...sure you can use the phone for a couple of hours heavy use with 100% brigthness but not a full workday.... about 2.5 hour of video...
Well I would love if some one could do a more in depth benchmark test with graphs etc... on saving power etc..
I hope there will be a stronger battery in future to upgrade...
I think I will begin to take the battery charger with me to work... so I can use 100% brightness all day..cause then this phone is a pure joy to use...

your phone is at 55% after 9.5 hours and you are complaining
Well I wouldn't to my eyes these are more than normal, rather in the very good range.
In my case the major drainer is not the Display but the voice calls, all I am asking for (battery wise) is a full day (14 hours or so) and I can't get this no matter what I tried, it is always failing short at around 10hours or so.
I would be more than happy with 55% after 10hours

I see, what are those unused CPU states?
Also I have no power saving stuff or battery saving apps going on. Nor do I go out of my way to save battery, I just use my phone when I need it.

One cool trick you can do to reduce screen draw is to adjust brightness on the fly: hold your finger down on the notification bar and drag left to lower brightness and right to increase it.
I usually have my brightness set low and only increase it when I'm in a bright environment like outside in the sun.

well i don't know u but, i had my phone for 2 days and 15 hours, and it still at 14 % , i just plug in to my pc for 10 mins last nigths because i was testing some apps

Nice! I hadn't heard of that before! Looks like you have to have auto brightness turned off, though.

looks fairly normal... looks like about 6 hours with the screen on, that's more then I would ever ask for
i can't quite tell how low your battery is from that picture but it seems to be about in line with the anandtech results.
I know that it is supposdly not needed, but I run Task Killer on the tablet and that seems to help things run more minimally as well.
Just an Idea?!
When I go to that screen I get a message saying that the information about battery usage is not available, should I enable something to monitor my battery usage?
thanks

There are supposed to be two screens of battery information. Where it says "Battery usage information not available," it should show which applications are using battery life; the fact that it doesn't is a TF bug (e.g., on the Xoom, it shows this info). Tapping on the graph will take you to a second screen that shows what system components (e.g., wifi, screen, etc.) have been used, for how long. This does work on the TF.
I'm really looking forward to Asus fixing this in a firmware update. It's difficult to diagnose what's using battery life without it, although I believe there are some apps that will do the same. Haven't had time to explore them, myself, but since my battery lasts plenty long for my use, I haven't worried too much about it.

Looks pretty good if your screen was on the whole time. About on par with what they say it would be.

Depending on your screen brightness (at the lowest setting OR higher than 60%) and what you did while the screen was on (Simple web browsing OR watch HD movies/play 3D games etc..), I would say that is normal to above average battery life.
Thanks. I had the screen on about 70% of the time. When I did, I was on the internet, watching youtube & playing angry birds. I was also in the Adobe PDF app reading my textbook. All while listening to pandora the whole time.
Also, if you don't mind it not updating stuff when the screen if off (I have a phone so I don't need it to check my email when I'm not around) you should change your WiFi sleep policy to turn off when the screen is off.
This allows it to deep sleep and it will use almost no battery when the screen is off.

Correct.
Let me be more precise:
If you turn the WiFi off with the screen, the whole device will enter a deep sleep (CPU and radio) and use much less power than if you allow the radio to stay on.

How can I pro-long my Nexus 4 battery life?

So far I am unimpressed with the battery life.. only lasted a few hours on full charge, and last night I charged it to 99%, took it off charge went to bed and when I woke up it was down to 87% with no use...
I notice that gmail has already updated my emails when I unlock the phone so what tips can you give me to get a better battery life?
Cheers
switch phone off at night or put it on airplane mode. If thats no good turn auto sync off. Get some NFC tags and create a tag using NFC Task Launcher and put it by your bed. Thats what I do. Thats reduced the overnight decrease to 1%. Make sure brightness is at low when possible, set syncing to longer periods when possible, I usually use one hour. And thats about it, less stuff you need to stream the better, I tend to get 19 hours so far but that has been with my Nexus 7 away for repair, so I have been using it more. Now that I have my N7 back, its already increased.
Only use manual email-sync.
Disable Latitude and location logging.
Disable sync with Facebook and G+.

Damn I can't even work out how to change sync settings...i've never had an android phone before
I found out that disabling all the autostart apps not needed with system tuner is giving me about an hour and a half more of screen on time....but I want to test it again through tomorrow

[Q] Battery Calculation Broken?

This has happened multiple times on my Galaxy s4. Today was the worst however. My phone was on 51% battery (supposedly) and then, the phone just turns off while I was in an app, without any kind of low battery warning, it was running as normal before this happened, I start the phone up again and bam, 1% battery remaining. Here it is on the battery screen:

My battery was dead by 2pm in the day which is also significantly worse than normal. This is with just 45 minutes screen on time:
and just 7 hours on battery:
And with no apps sucking up battery life.
Has anyone had this issue before and is there any possible way to fix this?
Charge to 100%. Pull battery. Put it back in and charge it again while off to 100%. If that doesnt fix it then get a new battery.

Hi ,
It could be lots of things...battery , phone not going in deep sleep , settings
First thing I would do is use an app like Better Battery Stats and really see what is going on ( kernel wakelocks) , who is keeping the phone up all the time , then i would review all my settings like FB , mail , location ...any syncing related app that may be going crazy and of course battery may be going bad
Look like a bad/faulty battery for me.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Keep in mind that battery percentage is never 100% accurate. All devices with batteries (with a percentage meter) has this.
But yeah, use better battery stats to check wakelocks.
Also a trick to calibrate the fuel gauche chip is to take out the battery for 3-5 minutes. It will be more calibrated than before.

Battery life assessment

Hello,
I find the OPT's battery life to be pretty disappointing, and a bit inconsistent over time.
I rooted and installed Amplify with some pretty aggressive settings. I have also tried Powernap, but disabled it when I saw it had very little impact.
Below are today's stats for my battery, which is just about 20% after 13 hours of moderate use.
It looks to me like wakelock should be under control (1% of battery in GSAM), but why is the phone awake so often then? Plus there was some odd GPS behavior: what is your opinion on this?
I hope I am not breaking any rules. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

You're not reading the GSam stats properly, your wakelocks are almost equal to your screen time, and like 28% of your screen off time.. Not good. Your awake time percentage is roughly three times what mine is. You may have a kernel wakelock rather than apps causing problems but can't tell without wakelock detector or similar.

Thanks, will try wakelock detector and report back
Can't confirm your disappointment...
In my opinion it's OK to have roundabout 2,5h DOT and last half battery with an Lollipop rom
Wow, wakelock detector revealed a massive drain from the fingerprint scanner... Probably due to the fact that I keep the phone in my pocket with no case, so it turns on very frequently only to "read" my thigh through the fabric.
I tried disabling fingerprint scanner and had immediate benefits on standby time. I wonder if this means I will be unable to ever use this great feature, or if sensitivity will be adjusted in future OTAs.
Screen on time remains rather poor though, or at least a far cry from the 5 hours everyone else seems to get.
My battery with screen off goes down 52% after 2 days. Have 2.1, latest custom kernel, greenify + amplify. the culprit is mobile standby as there are parts of house with bad reception. airplane mode not an option
Last night I tested battery drainage overnight from around 11pm to 7am.
I lost 3% total.
I set the phone to LTE (WiFi off) and disabled Auto-Sync Data under Accounts.
3% overnight is not bad IMHO.
Hi guys,
The standby time on OPT is very bad, however if I use it I get amazing SOT.
I am gettng these 2 kernel wakelocks in OPT, qpnp_fg_memaccess & qpnp_fg_update_sram.
These are always in top 3 wakelocks. I tried to search about them but could not find anything.
Can anyone tell me what are these and why do they occur and how can i avoid them?

So ... why don't you keep it somewhere else? Or put it in a flip case? That would be an easy remedy without sacrificing usability too much. I never really get it why people deliberately expose their thighs and possibly also their reproductive organs to so much radio waves ... or keep their mobile connection activated over night ...
Actually I have solved this by always pocketing the phone with the screen facing away
I am using Sky dragon ROM and Boeflla v18
Used 70 % battery in 23 hours with around 6 Hrs active. so it is good. Mostly Used in real racing 3 and asphalt. Plus I am running several xposed mods and Layers Themes

Incorrect Battery Reporting | % Skipping | Dead @ 12%

Battery would fall 2% on the screen, it shows in battery reporting you can see the line drops steeply within 1 minute then stays stable (ignore the part where my device was asleep).
been very inaccurate with reporting % it randomly died at 12% (lowest its been since i got it 3 weeks ago) and when i power back on its at 2%. i charged back up to 40% and let it drop to 12% and the same happened.
i could live with the 3hr SOT if i got a good report of how much % was left so i can conserve usage if need be.
Running stock oxygen 2.1.1
then rooted and installed AK kernel (SOT is a little better) but still % dropping. i even super underclocked and saw the same effect
sent a ticket to OP - hoping its a defect and they can replace it

By what I read, it's a normal behavior when device wakes up from sleep.
It seems that, when device is asleep, even battery stats aren't updated, to avoid unnecessary drain. So, once it wakes up and you use it for couple minutes, android get a chance to record stats and update actual battery percentage.
Again, this is the explanation I read on such a question, and it does makes sense.

i managed to underclock enough to make the other percentages to show up - so it is working just i guess polling is slow.
the 12% dead battery isnt normal though. havnt had it since then but if reset a few times. now switched to a custom rom (keep loosing LTE) but ill figure it out, thanks!
