webOS Open Sourced! Enyo???? :P - Fascinate General

Hey guys just heard this over on twitter and got super excited. I love my Android OS, especially with JT's functional ICS build, but would very much welcome the ability to run a non-hacked together webOS port. It's already running on the HTC Evo 3D (really hacked port) because one of the developers for webOS worked on it before hand. The source code isn't available yet, but there doesn't appear to be any limit on what their releasing aside from some HP only patents. Looks like a good deal to me! Maybe we'll see some cheap third-party phones coming out in the near future? One can only hope!
P.S. I only posted this in here because I know development guys are probably the only ones who care as well as hoping Enyo isn't totally gone and kinda takes this as a challenge (as per his older thread)
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/9/2623943/webos-being-open-sourced-says-hp

the top of the forum says: Fascinate Android Development
Moved this to general for now.

Ill work on it. That is if I do some research on it.

Petition For Android Section On XDA(Please Read and Sign)

Hello Everyone,
I would like to applaud DZO, Mssmison, Vilord, fOObar, Zenulator, SrWalter and any other prognators of the Android Port for a couple different HTC devices. Its a growing concern that we are clogging up the sections dedicated for the WinMo versions of these devices with our Android porting threads. Its been a nice place for us to research and discuss the Android ports for our phones but I must confessed that its getting cluttered in there. I was proposing that we have a new section opened up for Android Porting and subsections for each model of phone that WIP has begun and is usable.
With this implemented in the XDA forums, I believe that there will be more spotlight on the accomplishments so far and open the road for speedier developments on the Android Porting field so that we have more options in the future for which OS we run on our smartphones instead of the one shipped by the manufacture.
I believe in Android on being the next dominent platform for mobile OS due to its lightweight nature, open-sourced, multi-device configurations and powerful tools that come from Google and the beloved community of developers here. I see in the next year Android sales topping those of the crappy Blackberry OS, the cool yet non-functional iPhone OS and the oldschool inadated Windows Mobile OS.
All you have to do is reply to this thread just saying you would like to see this happen.
Thanks Everyone,
Tallnerd
P.S.
Please dont use this thread for FAQs or medium talk.
heck yeah dude this is the best thing to come to the vogue!
+1 for android section on XDA
I, the undersigned, agree to this.
make it so
I agree. It would be nice to have all the android stuff in one place insted of scattered between the various phone's forums.
+1 for Android section

Hahahaha, thank you all for your support in this project and so far the progress is good so please keep up the good work and sign your name.
Would be great to have a section for Android dev - anything to help keep the development momentum going.
+1 An Android Section would be great.
Yes, a MUCH needed thing. The ports are great, but for a month it seems like they have dominated the Vogue section
I totally agree. It's stepped away from normal development and taken on it's own life.
+ 1, would help cross-furtulize development and respondto commen user questions ..
This is it?? Come on people, we need to get more signatures than this.
I whole-heatedly agree! +1
Has anyone directly contacted the admin(s)? I feel like the popularity of the multiple development threads is proof enough that an Android division of the Vogue section would be worthwhile.
I agree, but I also think that as well as a general section we need a "Vogue Android Development" subforum like the native android devices have.
+1 to dzos suggestion. +1 to a new forum space as a whole.
just my +2.

Samsung Moment forum needed

Within the past week I migrated from the ROM-crazy Touch Pro to a Samsung Moment, and I'm disappointed to find that while XDA has a thriving Android community, there's barely a mention of the Moment. This is perplexing, as the Moment seems to be a very strong device.
I have found the SDX website and appreciate the good work going on over there, but it's a pretty small (though talented!) community. I would expect the Moment to gain more of a following if it were to get more exposure. Is there a reason XDA does not have a forum for this device? How would one go about requesting a new forum?
being a Moment and a CDMA Hero User i was wondering the same thing. :\

This is a HTC device forum so no wonder the SAMSUNG Moment doesn't have its own forum. You can post things about the Moment in the Android Software Development section though.
I considered that, but then I noticed the Samsung Omnia and various Palm, Toshiba, and LG devices had XDA forums.

No love for the Moment And I have one too
Reason would be because the XDA dev's would be pretty worthless (not an attack on them, just a statement of the following fact) at modifying and developing specific for the samsung moment. It utilizies different hardware and software that isn't found on any other android device (bits and pieces are found on other samsung devices only)... For example, the samsung moment utilizes a ONEnand chip and RFS (a samsung propritary) file system...

I heard a mod said that those devices parts were made by htc and the phone was put together by htc. kinda like the nexus one thing.
Samsung Mobile and Sprint announced today that the Samsung Moment has been selected as the first phone to showcase a demonstration of a Mobile Digital TV chip.
Samsung and its Moment may not be mainstream like Motorola but I like the Moment and can't wait for the 2.1 update coming in late March or April. Should make it a better device with the improvements. At least that's the theory...
there is a forum for moment. i had it in my bookmarks but i had to do a reinstall on my comp so im searching for it again atm cuz i didnt save bookmarks.
Sadly the admins don't have time to read every thread in this forum... so it might be a better idea mentioning this in the following thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
This is monitored by the admins.

Indeed.. I already posted a request for the Galaxy(S) and the Spica in the request forum. If you want others, just go post your demand in following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616206
There is already a forum for Samsung (Android) devices.
Most Samsung users go to the SDX forum as XDA is an HTC Dev forum. I'd recommend checking there, first, as they have done A LOT in the way of development/modding/hacking/theming for the Moment.
The structure of the information provided in the guides can be a little hard to follow at first, but the guides are rather good. ROM/Update flashing is (often too) simple and the rooting process is automated in update.zip format, now.

Personally, as a Moment user, I utilize both XDA and SDX, as great info can be found in both forums.

Same here.

So, There are 2.3 leaks out there already...

What would it take to get it working on our Epics? I have little experience with android, the epic is my first (previous winmo user) so I'm not familair with the requriements of getting it running. Im holding off on the 2.2 until the OTA, but I'd certainly love to do a gingerbread install vs messing with the current 2.2 that seems to have most peoples interest.
I wasn't aware of any official LEAKS for 2.3, but I do know that people have gotten it to boot up (and not much else) on other phones.
They are not leaks, they are ROMS that were built off the 2.3 SDK that was released
Please post questions in General section.

The hope was this was a plant to get the discussion of the development of a 2.3 epic friendly build going. It's not a general question. I don't look in general for such information. It's wholely a development question, and was appropriately placed. It's not a 'working roms and offical builds' section only. I don't view the general section, I have no interest in the general questions. I look only at the OS specific section.
It would be fairly easy to port the SDK version, but it would be extremely unstable and basically useless. Once they release the source, I'll give a whack at compiling it so we can have a nearly fully functioning rom.

Awesome, my 'inexperienced' hope is that due to the Nexus S being similar to the Epic, it should be somewhat easier. I have zero experience in this field as of now, so I have to look at such feedback regarding this. Thanks!
I saw some droid 2 guys talking about it, but havn't really gotten too deep into the discussion.

Should XDA Launch a WebOS Section?

It's pretty clear that XDA is centered around a community of developers and mobile device enthusiasts, rather than a particular platform, company, or carrier. That's why the switch to add non-HTC phones about a year ago has resulted in a fantastic new wave of development for a range of devices.
It's clear that HP's WebOS platform has a bright future. The Veer, Pre 3, and Touchpad were recently announced. These devices have us excited, and curious as to whether the XDA community would benefit if we were to add a forum for WebOS development. We'd start with the platform, rather than a particular device, like we did for Samsung's Bada OS, then see where it comes from there.
What do you think? Add WebOS, or skip it?
I say, Hell yea!
IMO, there's already way too much stuff on XDA and I don't think WebOS will ever really take off...
ever since xda has come out of the exclusive to htc phones phase, id say that we would have to add WebOS. its just the natural step forward...
Hell yea!
Don't ask, just do it

I say yes. I come to XDA everyday and I would love to learn about webos.

Not a bad idea. XDA has so many members so that's not a problem. XDA must be the biggest and the best community about Mobile OS.
Yes, it is a great idea! Do it!
Another vote in favor...
+1 on webOS.
I love webOS (I have used it for quite a while) and having webOS here on the forum would give me an excuse to read the forums again. And if XDA has a section for the iPhone I don't see why there wouldn't also be a section for HP webOS.
XDA is continuing to grow in size. More enthusiasts and developers are join the comunity. I think XDA should support as many different devices or OSes as possible. I think it should be added. Although I do think with the increase of support and members the site may have to be redesigned aat one point.

Do it! I think that it'll be great. I'm personally torn between the G-Slate and a WebOS tablet.
More systems more fun!
I would really like to ask "why not?" to those people saying NO to this thread.
Yes. webOS must be added. We all miss the days of HTC only phones on xda sometimes but they're long gone.
Absolutely, WebOS should be added. It's quite possibly the most accepted homebrew platform available to consumers. And to those who there is "too many already", don't read those sections. XDA cleanly organizes the sections.

Developers come here...

http://developer.nvidia.com/tegra-resources Nvidia just released images of Ics 4.0 for Tegra 2 based phones, do you think this can help our community?
Well this looks exciting - here's hoping it's of some use!
Wrong section folk. We already know of it, relax!

Yeah, good for "Nvidea"
now if only "someone" gets a .39 or 3.x kernel to work for the atrix!
I just want to point out how easy a simple search can return results. All I did was enter "developer.nvidia" (from the link you posted) and I got back a fair amount of results that include:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21723572&postcount=726
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21696714&postcount=50
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21716186&postcount=59
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21699953&postcount=1
All of which were posted before you started this thread. Which I feel happens to be in the wrong section but that's not my job to decide that, I really wanted to emphasize the redundancy of your thread.
