Bought the SwiftKey x - best 10 cents I ever spent!

Should be I think.

I brought Minecraft and Endomondo, but the apps would not download. I got the email invoice but the install box don't appere on the app page and I can't get a refund because it's not installed. Funny thing is the apps are listed in my app section.
Tried to buy it again and only got another email invoice without download option, going to wait for few hrs to see anything changes.

Hmm.. Worked good for me, i bought some more apps now - no problems at all.. Could be that the market servers are overloaded..

Probably I have not had any problems either.

[DISCUSS] Xperia Play Forum?

Can we get a xperia play forum? Both devices are coming out at the same time.
Or let me know the correct place to suggest this.
I guess they'll open one once the device is released or few weeks earlier

The xperia play is coming out in less than 2 weeks.

i have decided to pre order a play but if i can get it a week early that would be a plus, is the place your getting it from doing a early release or do you just have connections?
I'll be getting one soon, probably the launch night.
If anyone is around Hull this Sunday you'll be able to have a go here:

They're pretty amazing, the Play's! I've tried some games, only Crash Bandicoot didn't run completely smooth (but still very enjoyable and playable), but it was a development device with a _lot_ running in the background. Some games (like The Sims) don't really use the game pad, they're completely touch-based, but all other games work great with the game pad!
I must say that this is looking pretty sweet.
But...yeah here is a big but......I just can't see myself pulling this thing out with colleagues or customer around me.
What would be cool is the detachable layer that you can switch out the game pad for a qwerty keyboard!!!!
If they can accomplish that, I would be able to use the game pad during my private time on the plane or in a restaurant. I'll use the qwerty pad in the office.
Why not just use touch screen only in those situations?

I could....but I'm a huge fan of the qwerty pad:-D
Old BB habit die hard......
But imagine how cool it would be to switch out the input half of the device though

Renting movies through market, Kinda Pricey!

I am new to the tablet world. A few weeks ago my gateway laptop died after 6 or so years of dedicated service, and before it happened i had already decided that i was going to go to a tablet when it did.
to this point i am enjoying the tablet, although i wont say it has been an easy transition. Really wanting a bluetooth keyboard folio.
I am out of town for work, aka long boring nights in hotel rooms. I was considering renting a movie through market, but then i started looking at the prices. Most of the movies on there you can rent at a red box for a dollar, what makes them worth 4 through android market???
if anything its more profitable for everyone to distribute the movies in this way.
Anyway thats my gripe, perhaps others will opine.

i agree with you buddy the movies are massive expensive plus i dont think that quality is great. so more i often i use either netflix or use "a torrent downloader" market app and dowload AVI files with mx player
I set up a server that streams my video collection to my android device using plex. Saves my sanity...

Generally the studios set a price and then the various distributors add a small markup to make it viable for them. So a studio may say, we'll license Star Trek to you for $2 per rental. Then the distributor (in this case Google) may add 99c or $1.99 to make it $2.99 or $3.99 and rent it for that amt. for a certain period of time. In other words, those are the prices you're going to find for renting movies online, period because they've more or less been set by the industry. Maybe a $1 cheaper here or there, but those are the general prices.
I don't know if you're into Anime, but for next time you may want to consider crunchyroll.com which has an app on the market, (i subscribe to the site) there's a lot of free anime on there too or if that's not your thing crackle comes to mind, though the crackle app I don't think has been optimized for HC - you may be able to view video through the website directly.
I like the offline option on the market videos - something I wish netflix had. If I have the time I usually redbox a few movies and rip them for the Acer.

Gameloft games 99 cents

Android market. Holiday sale

Got NOVA 2 as I played the first on iPhone and it was a fun online shooter (I think it was NOVA?). New one looks a lot like Halo so thought it'd be worth the 99c buy. 528MB additional download if anyone cares..
Had Backstab HD from 10 cent sales, haven't downloaded it yet.
9mm looked damn good but reviews said it was very short and not so open world?
Got NOVA, Asphalt 6, and Modern Combat. Hope these will work on tablets as well, I will be getting my Transformer Prime next week.

Cast your vote (BG:EE) for the Note 10.1

Hi all. There is a poll going on for Android device prioritization for Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition. So throw your vote towards the Note 10.1. You will likely have a sign up for the forum... No big deal right
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discus...ould-we-prioritize-our-development-for#latest
Us Android users need to help out devs like this!
Thanks!
Well, I voted but it looks like we're pretty far behind on votes. I don't like that. I've been waiting ages for EE to come out and now I'm beginning to wonder if the tablet I chose to go with will ever get it. I hope that all the tablets listed will get the game eventually instead of some of them just being tossed to the gutter.
Well even though I already finished the game on the PC, I also voted for 10.1. 3rd place isn't so bad.
Option A : Wait for them to maybe get their version working on our tablet
Option B : Buy the original game on GOG and run it today using GemRB. And then when you're done, use that same app to play the sequel, and the IceWind Dale games.
No contest IMO.

Meh. Tried GemRB and it was buggy. The EE promises to be optimized for tablets, which in my mind is no contest.

Nexus 7 for 8 Year Old Birthday Present..?

Hi guys,
Youngest daughter has decided on a tablet for her 8th Birthday (birthday is end of August).
I think a 7" tablet will be more than fine for what she needs. So with all the 7" tablets around would you pick the Nexus 7 over all the others?
16GB WIFI will be the model I buy as I doubt very much she will ever get close to using up 16GB.
I've just spend a long time reading about the 2nd Generation coming out end of July - will the 2nd generation sort out the lag problems what occur over time with the 1st generation or is this 'lag' just rumours?

I think it's a better decision to wait for the 2nd gen Nexus 7, and yes, the first gen is a little bit laggy but if you stay with the stock kernel it'll be fine.
I have had a Nexus 7 for over 7 months and I have seen no signs of lag. Also there will be a 4.3 update which has fixed lag and touch responsiveness problems on the Nexus 4 so it will probably fix the lag problem on the Nexus 7. Nexus 7's are dirt cheap now and the 2nd gen won't be as cheap.

My 9 year old has one and loves it, no lag issues and she installs all kinds of crappy games on it

Lag....have'nt experienced any since january...CUZ I BOUGHT NEXUS 7 IN JANUARY...
A first gen nexus 7 is more than enough for an 8yo. Kids don't care about what cpu is in the tablet or about the screan resolution or what not. All they want is for it to turn on and play the games they install. The nexus 7 has more than enough prosesing power for all the newest games, and with the next gen coming out soon, the first gens are dirt cheap. In fact, you just convinced me to get one for my kid too :good: On a side note, I've had my n7 for 8 months and never had any lag. Good luck on your tablet choice and happy b-day to your kid.
I recently flashed back to stock 4.2.2 and did noticed more lag then a custom ROM + kernel. It might partially because I previously had the CPU overclocked with userspace governor.
Agree with other replies, I have had 1st gen since launch and haven't experienced any noticeable lag, and would highly recommend this.
Personally I would wait for a 2nd gen, but imagine there will be a price drop for 1st Gen too from Google if prices is a consideration....and the 1st gen will get 4.3 and other updates pretty rapidly too
Chris
OK - I will wait to see what happens with pricing of the 2nd gen vs 1st gen before buying anything.
My 8 year old won't notice any difference between a 1st gen and 2nd gen - however I will hehe, first thing I will be doing to it is flashing rascarlo and franco as that is what is on my Nexus 4.
Can't believe how many Nexus 7's are going up for sale, but the sad thing is people want far too much for them as they can't take the hit for how much they will lose through selling it for a 2nd gen replacement.
Tesco and Argos in the UK are both doing reconditioned units with 12 months warranty for ~£120 inc P&P.
Can't wait to order one and mess with it (I mean wrap it up for her birthday).
My six year old daughter got my 16 gig model hand me down when I got my 32 gig. She has had it for almost a year and loves it. I am running latest AOKP and FRanco kernel and everything runs great a good battery life. I got a pink rubberized case to go around it and has saved it from many falls. I highly recommend it for kids in my own personal experience.
Why do such young peeps need a tablet?

Why do you need one? To do things, right? Kids are being brought up in a technical world and as a result start using/needing tech products earlier and earlier with each generation.

As was I, however this is a new generation. They are using more tech just for school work and they see their parents using things and want to emulate them. It also actually helps them learn and grow. It helps with hand eye coordination as well as learning/reading/entertainment. Like anything else moderation is the key, it is not meant to be a babysitter.

Woohoo I win! Wait was this a contest? I was just trying to give an explanation as to why kids should get a tablet. Now phones? That's a whole new ball game! What frakking 6-10 year old needs a phone? If it's too know where they are, well learn to parent they are too damn young to need to be tracked down.

At 8 years old I was using my Dad's Mac SE/30 with a huuuuge 20 MB hard drive! And after my Bar Mitzvah I spent well over $1K of gift money a 486 IBM Aptiva. So a cheap N7 does not seem out of the question.
I would say, go with the 1st gen 16 or 32 gig. It's still a quad-core processor, and you may find lag issues improve in 4.3. Then again I'm a techie guy at age 31 and I seriously have not experienced any notable lag. The only thing is, the 1st gen has a lousy speaker and it may blow out after a while.
Also a piece of advice: Create a separate Google Play account and do not keep a billing method assigned to it. If you want to purchase anything on that account, add your credit/debit card to her account and make the purchases, and then remove the card again. Also, prepaid Google Play gift cards could be added to her account. This makes sure she will not trigger any unwanted or excessive in-app purchases. If you have apps you bought and want her to use them too, sign in with your secondary account, install them, and then sign out.
There are sooo many bright and colourful games that kids would love to play - and that support in-app purchases. Protect yourself

Get it for her!
I got my 6.5 yr old the N7 for Christmas (she's 7 now, bday in March). She got my 16gb WiFi version & I gifted myself the 32 gb version.
We've had no trouble with it. I got a cute pink case, tossed some Hello Kitty icons, themes & bam, good to go. She loves it & has no complaints.
No reason to get her the next-gen N7 - The original is a high-end enough device that it will last as long as it's taken care of & be supported for some time to come from Google (Android 5 in October, etc.). Save the $50+ you'd spend getting 2nd Gen & get her the 1st Gen with case, screen protector, cool stylus, & maybe some Play credit
Happy birthday to kiddo whichever way you go.
And to the person posting about being outside & playing at 8, sure. It's called a time limit on electronics. I'd rather she was playing on her tablet than watching TV. And 50% of the time she'd rather be outside swimming, playing soccer, running than inside, so I'm Ok with her having a tablet. Good way to build responsibility and another thing the help with rules and guidelines and making good choices...learning & development - mental enrichment NOT at the detriment of physical activity.
