Help! Can't boot / cant get into recovery. .. - Atrix 4G General

I was unlocked and rooted and ready to install CM7. I followed all the instructions in the Official Atrix CM7 OP to the T, but when it rebooted, I got stuck on the boot screen with "unlocked" and the red M logo.
I tried to repeat the process several times and ended kind of giving up, factory wiping, and then trying to restore my backup. It appeared to restore successfully, but when I rebooted the phone now wont boot at all. I can't even get it into recovery. No combination or order of button presses or battery pulls / usb plugins will turn it on. I just have a green light like it's charging but nothing is working.
Is it possible to brick your phone even after you have been successfully unlocked and rooted just while you are trying to install CM7?
Please help. I am really desperate here. . .

are you using the right recovery? romracer or rom manager!

i am using the tenfar CWM included in the Atrix 4G Automatic Unlock script package. will this not work?
if not, how do I replace it with the right recovery if I cant even get into the phone?

no, that the old recovery you can use the rom manager if you have , or romracer latest recovery you can find that in the development section, also ther was instruction in the cm7 thread.

you should have left it alone at the M boot screen because it takes about 5-10min to boot after unlock and flash...
everything you do now will have to be through fastboot DO NOT SBF FLASH ANYTHING!!!
Go here to use Fastboot
then download the system.img and boot.img from here
use fastboot to push the boot.img and system.img to your phone
if it gets stuck at the M boot screen let it sit for at least 10min
EDIT: get Romracer recovery from here and push that through to your phone through fastboot

Yeah youre going to have to fastboot wipe recovery then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Just download rom racers and rename it..recovery.img

Great. Sorry to be such a noob, but do I decompress the CWM-recovery-atrix5.zip file and push the recovery.img file that's inside it? or push the CWM-recovery-atrix5.zip itself?
Also - every time I am able to get my phone into fastboot mode, it says my battery is too weak to flash anything. I cant seem to get the battery to charge enough to execute any fastboot commands. Any way around this? a powered usb hub?

If you can borrow another Atrix user's battery, or take yours to an AT&T store and see if they can charge it for you.
If you're able to get back into recovery then you can just flash the zip.
If not, you'll need to extract the recovery.img to use it with fastboot, or just download it directly from the OP in romracer's thread. (The left hand link is just the .img, the right hand side is the CWM .zip) Then place it in the same directory as fastboot.

So I can literally flash a different recovery from within another?

Its the recovery from tenfar CWM. When I can get it into recovery it seems to be working - with the obvious exception of successfully installing CM7
So I can flash romracer recovery from inside tenfar recovery?
sorry if im being redundant - just dont want to screw it up!
thanks

Just download rom racers cwm. Img, head into fastboot and then fastboot flash recovery recovery-****** (whatever yer recovery image color u chose is)

I was able after a full day of leaving the phone plugged in, to charge it up. Then I flashed the rom racer recovery, rebooted into recovery (new version), installed CM7, installed gapps, and voila! A working CM7 Atrix. thank you soo soo much guys.

The phone stuck in boot screen and overheat, then restart.
In recovery mode is just black screen.
Phone has Neutrino 2.6GT+ ROM whit Clemsyn's OC kernel 1.6GHz and it has unlocked bootloader.
Can I change the kernel without booting in os or recovery?
This problem show after I was extracting very big zip file and phone overheat.

I am actually having this same problem.

My warranty-replacement (unrelated ear-piece failure) had 2.3.6 pre-installed. Thinking little of it, I unlocked the BL and rooted the phone as usual. After this, I tried to install a couple of the ROM's (Neutrino and Morrisoft) which I was most happy with on my previous Atrix.
After flashing either Neutrino or Morrislee's ROM, the phone hung on the M screen. Waiting approximately 30 minutes with no change, I pulled the battery.
When trying to enter recovery mode, the phone would state, "entering recovery mode..." Then go black.
I ended up using RSDLite and sbf flashing the stock 2.3.6 sbf file back to the phone. Then, I had to re-unlock the bootloader and re-root.
This never happened up to, and including 2.3.4, but did twice last night on these ROM's using 2.3.6, and I've flashed many ROM's and Kernels.
It happened to a lesser extent when trying to flash Clemsyn's stock enhanced kernel to the stock ROM, as I was able to enter recovery mode. Entering recovery mode, it would give errors: mounting cache, mounting system errors, and errors to accessing recovery and recovery log files.
Restore recovery would fail in this state, giving me the above errors as well.
Trying to mount the cache and system in recovery would fail. Trying to format cache and system then mounting these could occur temporarily, but would revert back to unmounted when a restore was attempted.
For these problems I pushed a recovery through fastboot.

Just one word: Fastboot. See if Fastboot works and flash everything from there. Or, as Alterna suggested, flash through RSDLite, but that a little dangerous and can brick your phone if you don't know what you are doing. Hope it helps.

Problem sloved!!!

[Q] fastboot - no boot or img file

hey guys i'm having some trouble. i just got the nexus (it's my first smartphone, ever) and i've tried to hit the ground running. here's what i've done to the phone so far.
i got all the drivers running on my win7 machine and also installed the android SDK folder onto C: as was described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878786
i then unlocked the bootloader using the above guide as well. when I power on the phone using UP+POWER it says UNLOCKED.
I then proceeded to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875875
i used ADB to flash the clockwork crespo recovery. i then used fastboot to install Superuser.
at that point i had an unlocked bootloader, clockword recovery image and superuser permissions.
i then saw that the 2.3.1 update had been released. i wanted to learn how to tackle that so i started reading up. i noticed that people were using ROM Manager and Titanium. I got titanium and installed the BusyBox addon and it allowed me to do a full Batch Backup of all my programs, etc. i've got the 50MB or so backup folder on my PC now.
anyway, i then messed with Rom Manager. I installed the 3.0.0.0 ClockworkMod Recovery and everything went smoothly. now this is where my troubles begin.
when i go to Download ROM all i get is a Free Stuff area.
when i go to Check for ROM Updates it tells me my device isnt set up for OTA updates.
those are just minor issues.
this is the big and scary issue i have:
when i click on reboot to recovery, it takes me to the same screen that i go to when i power on with VOLUME UP+POWER. it doesnt take me to the recovery screen that i see in various youtube videos. instead, i'm at the main screen where it says UNLOCKED and i have 4 choices (reboot bootloader, recovery, reboot, power off). and on the very top in RED letters it says fastboot - no boot or img file. <-- this is the part that makes me nervous. If i manually power down the phone and boot to fastboot and click recovery, it just goes back to this same screen and says fastboot - no boot or img file. when i first rooted the phone, clicking recovery actually took me to a different screen where i was able to load up superuser.zip and install it.
did i accidetnally delete something that i wasnt supposed to? did installing ROM manager mess something up? i typically dont do anything until i confirm that i am supposed to. i think the problem is that i dont yet know how one thing i do on the phone affects another. i'm guessing when i used rom manager to update the CWmod it changed some folders/files? i dunno!
otherwise, the phone works fine and there are no glitches or hiccups or crashes. So if someone can please take a moment to just explain to me what i did wrong or what i failed to do i'd really, really appreciate it.
you don't have a recovery partition. Either flash one over manually using fastboot, or boot up and try to use ROM Manager to flash CWR.
when you say flash one over using fastboot, do you mean put my phone using VOLUME UP + POWER, connect usb cable, then use command line to do this:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-crespo.img
?

Yes, 'cept it will be "fastboot flash recoveryrecovery-clockwork-3.0.0.0-crespo.img" without the quotes now.
But does it say that you're missing a boot.img or recovery.img?
Also, the "not set up for OTA" thing isn't for official OTAs. Some developers have made their custom ROMs capable of being updated that way.

thank you luxferro and unremarked. i did it and it works perfectly. i am now able to access clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.0. next step is backup my existing ROM and also to figure out how to put the OTA 2.3.1 on and restore all my data
oh and unremarked: it basically said no boot or img file and thats it after i would click on recovery or reboot to recovery trhough rom manager. it was just in red at the top. but now it takes me to the ClockworkMod Recovery

ok so i wanted to flash clockwork 3.0 but i was still running cm 6.1.1 and now i am stuck at the htc boot screen. i also cant get into recovery please i am begging for help.
please someone i really need help i obviously cant use my warranty obviously so please help me restore this or just get it back to working without a root anything
Dont worry pal.
OK,... AFAIK...... If you have flashed ClockworkRecovery 3, the only ROMs that will work are the 2.3 ROMs,... If you are trying to boot up a 2.2 ROM, it is likely to bootloop.
So boot back into recovery, full wipes, then flash a 2.3 ROM,... If that is what you were planning to do.
If you want to keep your 2.2 ROM on,... flash back to an older Clockwork Recovery,... then try to boot? If you get boot loops, try wiping cache and try again. If it still fails I would just do a fresh flash of your ROM again,... Remember full wipes 1st.

Can you boot into Hboot screen (phone off then volume-down + power)? If yes try to select recovery from the Hboot screen, it should reboot into recovery, if it doesn't and something is wrong with your recovery, Do you have an Eng. Hboot? , if yes do you have Andriod SDK set up and fastboot? If yes, boot into Hboot, select fastboot from the options, then plug in your usb. Once your device is recognized by fastboot:
Code:
fastboot devices
should return a serial number + "fastboot"
then reflash ClockWorkMod Recovery 2.5.1.3( you can download it from here:http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html then place the ClockWorkMod Recovery 2.5.1.3( make sure its named recovery.img) into the tools folder in AndriodSDk where Fastboot is located, then run the command :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
once rebooted your probably gonna be stuck at the HTC screen again, pull the battery, then Volume-down+ power back into Hboot, then select recovery from Hboot screen and it sholud reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, then reflash the rom of your choice.
thanks but i already fixed it by pressing sim lock and i have no idea why that worked and i should probably set up adb now right?

[Q] CM7 and Stock SBF Soft Brick

You're all going to have to forgive my idiocy, but I have a problem. I installed SM7 in my Atrix on an unlocked bootloader. I decided to go back to stock today and downloaded and flashed the SBF through RSLite. Reading now, you're not suppose to flash a previous sbf version if your bootloader is unlocked, but I didn't know that, at least that's what I'm assuming happenned. Now, the phone goes into a loop on the Motorola animation and does nothing. I can get into fastboot, recovery, RsLite mode and all of that, but the phone itself is in a loop. My questions is, what (If anything) can I do (eg. flash, fastboot etc) to go back and fix my problem? That battery already died once and I found a way to charge it so I can get back in those menus, but any tidbits would be majorly helpful.

I tried going into recovery mode; no dice. Droid error icon showed up. What's this I'm reading about flashing using fastboot? Can I download and flash a fastboot file so as to fix my phone?
Tried full wipe using fastboot? That pulled me out of boot loop once.
There are instructions and batch files to automate it somewhere in development forum.
if ur ATnT then screwed for very long time(till there is a fix)
if ur international/bell user (i am bell user and i messed up mine big time) then download the bootloader unlock SBF (IHOP_Bell) and flash it via rdslite and this will give u back the bootloader unlocked logo on ur boot screen.
if yes then ur lucky connect ur phone in fastboot mode and remove every **** out of it
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
then flash latest recovery via fastboot (do a search in forum ull find it)
boot into recovery and mount ur memory card as a usb mass storage device and copy the fruitcake or any other rom's zip file into it and flash it via recovery and u should be good to go.
since i am bell user i was able to flash back 2.2.2 french rom via SBF and RSD but after flashing cm7 i am not touching rsd or any sbf for that matter.
Press thanks if i helped you, and if i didnt then press it anyways
i would say do what swiftks says
flash a fruitcake use fastboot its your
only hope now also swiftks has guides

Yer not hard bricked. You'll be fine. PM swift or myself if you can't figure it out.

[Q] In Bootloop, Can you Help?

I was having some pretty serious radio issues with cyanogenmod so I attempted to use RSD Lite which had previously worked like a charm to go back to stock rom (using what came pre-bundled with matt's script v. 1.2)
My phone is unlocked at the bootloader
I have it rooted.
I get the original droid boot loop.
I can definitely get it into a status code 3 AP Fastboot, but none of the tools for the script or RSD lite have gotten me past the droid eye bootloop.
I'm presuming a wipe of the cache will do the trick, but either my googling skills are gone or I'm just too tired after 6 hours.... but I'm unable to get any type of recovery flashed.
My first question is if I am in AP Fastboot, who knows how to get a recovery image flashed so I can see if it's just a cache issue of trying to go from cyanogenmod to stock firmware.
My second question is - Does anyone have a link to a guide to "re-lock" my bootloader in case I need to get this to tech support?
Thanks

First off, after you flash the firmware via fastboot, go back into recovery and do a factory reset. Second, you can't relock the bootloader.
thanks for responding. I wish it was this easy - it's been caught in a loop after trying factory again. I think I'd be able to resolve this if there were a way to wipe everything clear and build from scratch

No you cannot relock the bootloader...
Download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40682385 chose option one... once flashed boot into recovery factory reset... boot up device... once booted root... install voodoo protect root install update restore root... install custom recovery if desired... I have boot looped I've been stuck at boot logo I've also been stuck with no data n WiFi this has saved me on more times then I can count on 3 separate devices and his utility n what I described has saved me more times then I can count...

I had some issues with aftermarket recoveries and formatting. I'm not sure if you've had any luck or if this is even helpful but assuming you are in fastboot and have the SDK set up...
Extract the stock sbf/XML and grab the recovery image.
At command line enter: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Reboot with all three buttons and select recovery.
Do factory reset.
Get back into fastboot
And repeat the command above (with different recovery obviously) to reflash a recovery of your choice.
(The official Philz cwm touch posted recently in development subforum works very well with the new 4.3 ROMs)
Hope that helps...if its too basic, please disregard! Good luck.

Stuck on "Fastboot Mode" screen

I stupidly tried using franco's app to flash cleanKernel on my rooted phone on 9.0.11, it failed of course and now can't boot my phone. I'm able to fastboot boot twrp.img but I'm not sure what is needed next. I've downloaded the full 9.0.11 ota file thinking something in it (or all of it) needs to be flashed from twrp. Afraid to do anything at this point for fear of losing data. Any tips are appreciated.
I've downloaded mauronofrio's rom-stock-fastboot utility but see he says it will clear data. I'm assuming all the .bat files will do this. Any way to avoid clearing internal storage?

This started after I stupidly tried using franco's app to flash cleanKernel on my rooted phone. It failed of course and now can't boot my phone. My phone recently updated itself to 9.0.11, fyi.
Any ideas on how to fix this boot issue? Is it just a matter of flashing something from the full ota 9.0.11 file---some img file or something?

Wouldn't you want to be using a twrp.img not .zip?
fastboot boot twrp.img
Boot twrp from the img and then flash the zip once twrp boots?
I was able to recover...thank god. Just used mauronofrio's flash utility. Removed the "-w" flag from the flash-all.bat file and all is good.

Hi, I have just got a OnePlus 6T and I am getting this same error even though I am using the twrp.img - when I run fastboot boot 'twrp.img' it sticks on the Fastboot Mode screen.
I have the .zip on the phone's internal storage along with Magisk ready to install but I can't get there.
I did manage to get into Recovery once in the last 3 hours but under Advanced the only 2 options I have are to reboot to fastloader of reboot to recovery which just takes me round in circles!
Have tried everything I can find/think of right now and am no further down the line
Any help guidance will be greatly recieved as nothing I can find on the threads here seem to help

When I think about it, it seems that the twrp.img I am flashing is not taking. When I go into recovery I get to choose 1 of 3 languages, I choose English and then I just get the 2 options as above - thing is, the font, layout etc. make it look like stock recovery and nothing like TWRP I have used before, no TWRP logo etc. Nothing

Ok.. can you get into TWRP? Is so reflash the stock rom.. the once it has flashed do not reboot, go back to install and flash the lastest twrp .zip do not reboot, go back to install and flash/install magisk, once it installs then reboot to system... It will take a bit... Once it reboots check your Magisk manager you may need to reinstall it, reboot to TWRP and reflash it.. reboot to system band you should be good to go...
TWRP isn't there

Thanks and apologies if a two posts appear from me, I submitted one about 20 minutes ago and it isn't showing.
The issue is more than that, even when I try to flash the TWRP image it doesn't seem to take. The phone gets stuck on the 'Fastboot Mode' OnePlus flash screen and hangs there.
I have to hold the power and vol+ keys to get the device to restart and I then receive a message saying 'bootloader unlocked, data insecure etc.' and to press the power to stop the boot process. If I leave it the phone boots into OOS10.3.3.
If I press the power button I can get to recovery mode (albeit there is a password screen there which I have never seen on other devices I've had). I put my password in and choose English. I am then given the two options; reboot to fastboot or reboot to recovery. There is no advanced option to allow me to install TWRP or Magisk zips, as a matter of fact I don't get any TWRP at all, it looks like stock recovery.
Is the phone defaulting to stock recovery and not the TWRP image? That is what, in my very non-expert opinion seems to be happening. Is that possible and if so, any ideas how to fix?
I have completely flashed the phone so it is on stock OOS (10.3.3.) so can start afresh. It is a refurbed 'like new' so could that have anything to do with it?
Thanks for reading the long post - am wondering if there are some other tools I need use to change how it boots?

Ok.. are you using the latest TWRP? If you want in the guide section you can you the msmdow like ad tools to reset you phone to stock, and retry again..
THIS. I have the exact same issue. In short, I have the T-mobile version, and was able to unlock successfully. I am using twrp-3.2.3-0, and I have the img and zip in the same folder, same way Techibee does on Youtube. I then type "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-fajita.img", I get the "OKAY... OKAY... Booting... Finished" response in console. Then, the Fastboot screen appears and never leaves. I have done this 3 times now. I kept tweaking the process, but I'm nervous to keep debugging.
