Some GREAT news for Flipout owners... - Flipout and Charm General

Well, i just got off the phone with an AT&T rep. I was asking him why the flipside got a 2.2 froyo update and us flipout (and charm) owners with basically identical firmware weren't getting this udate. He didnt know why, So he did some checking... There IS an official update for the motorola flipout! All you have to do is ask. He told me that he had set it up to send me an update within today, or tomorrow, and will be calling me back on monday to confirm the update went through. So basically, get on your phones people and get your 2.2 on!

If the update is REAL, then good!
Waiting for news.

Any news? Would love to see an actual upgrade for this phone!

@ Spookythemayor
any news? did u get the update?...

Fake post?

probably the 'update' fix of the 2.1.... there is no effin 2.2 for mb511

i hope it is real

Probably rubbish, but:
http://android-market2.blogspot.com/2011/10/motorola-flipout-22-custom-rom-and.html

2.2 would be nice but my flipout is way passed its prime. I'll likely be upgrading around Christmas time
Sent from my A500 using xda premium

That would be great news indeed! A used Flipout sells for less than 90 euros on ebay (and for about 120 euros you can get it brand new) and if it could get a stable 2.2 ROM I will definitely be buying one!

News about update <Announcement on friday>

The webpage doesn't link to either samsung or T-Mobile US's sites. It just says Samsung has officially confirmed it. It does contain a link to TMobile UK site where a T_Mobile Rep is saying it will be released in two weeks.
I understand it's for Galaxy s(i9000), but it does also say "release will be available in two weeks for all networks"
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/and...ayed-on-all-networks-due-this-month-50001015/
I believe this. It makes sense. Can't wait

And here we go again.
The first sentence says "could" not "will". And "all networks" in this article refers to T-mo UK, Vodafone, Orange and O2. Not T-mo US, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon.
This article doesn't provide any real updates for US users.
^^^^^^ this!!!
Well that's a site I could trust but it is stol unclear if it is for tmobile US cause it is Uk based.

There is a Samsung Tweet saying soon for froyo Galaxy S. No word on Tmo US. Very vague again. Tmoble US silent again. Slow again. Nothing again.....
Same rumors again...
Same old is getting very old.
File under "I know a guy..."
you'll get ice cream on top of froyo from Tmo as an added bonus.
I got froyo last night at the android bbq its nice
Soon sounded good back in August.

he never said for what phone.
He had the kind you can eat, not for his phone.
Also didn't say if it was a froyo for a phone
Damn, I knew I shouldn't have thrown out that invitation to the BBQ.
You know it is sad when you call Tmobile to ***** about no 2.2 on the vibrant and they suggest XDAdevelopers ...
No updates just called them to ***** .... Made me feel better
From T-Mobile Twitter:
"We continue to work diligently with Samsung to provide improvements. We plan to have more information to share this week. ^CG"
Put it this way. If europe gets froyo, developers will get a working froyo to work with. In any case if this happens, froyo roms with no bugs will be swarming the site. That's great news, even if official is not coming out.

Galaxy S Gingerbread update soon. Due at end of March!

According to Android Central: http://www.androidcentral.com/european-galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-coming-end-march
Link to Samsung Romania post: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobileRomania/posts/189412624430604
A post on Samsung Mobile Romania's Facebook page seems to suggest that Romanian Galaxy S phones (and presumably other European models) may see an official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the end of March.
Translated into English and cleaned up a little, the post reads:
"The update to version 2.2.1 for Galaxy S will be available until 20 March, and Gingerbread (2.3) until the end of the month."
Our Romanian is a little rusty, but we think it's safe to assume the last part of that statement means either "it'll arrive by the end of the month", or "it won't arrive until the end of the month". Either way, it looks like the European Galaxy S could soon claim bragging rights as the first non-Nexus phone to get an official Gingerbread update. HTC has announced that Gingerbread will be coming to some of its older phones, but these updates aren't due until sometime in the second quarter.
Samsung Romania also adds that two of its budget phones, the i5500 Galaxy 5 and i5800 Galaxy 3, will be updated to Froyo by Mar. 20 and Mar. 31 respectively. [Samsung Romania Facebook via Crave]

The universal kernel is for 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROMs only.
Also, it's not a universal kernel, it's a universal settings.apk that's been fixed for us.

That's great and all - really it is. But didn't the first Froyo releases already come out in Europe by September? Yet the Vibrant didn't get Froyo for another 4 months...
so what this means is... a year till we get gingerbread?

I don't really know the history of the Vibrant, (Picked it up off Craigslist 2 months ago) but this at least gives me some hope.
God, getting Gingerbread on the Vibrant would be AMAZING. It would increase the speed, and once the source is released, we would see some awesome gingerbread ROM's for it.
Just one gingerbread leak for vibrant, then we will be back in business.

Seriously. All they need is the driver sources + the kernel and CM7 would become amazing.
Hopefully somebody will be able to port it quickly if T-Mobile foes not roll out the rom in the same timeframe...
Tmobile said they would be more up to speed on updates. Take that for what you want it to mean.
That is all I gotta say about this subject.

+1. This was released by T-mo after 2.2 was released on kies for the vibrant. So hopefully we'll get gingerbread alot faster than froyo. And hopefully the first of the U.S galaxy S phones to be updated again.
If the Vibrant gets an official Gingerbread update EVER I will buy a Galaxy Tab immediately.

Not bad Samsung, two updates in less than a year. They even beat HTC at their own update game. The HTC Desire still has to get Gingerbread.
apparently it's only for europe as per this blog post and I saw a thread somewhere that says that after upgrading, the phone won't get recognized by KIES anymore. So be careful while you update..

Good job samsung releasing gingerbread when they had to put touchwiz on top. I guess we should not blame samsung for what the US carriers are doing to us to push new phone sales.

Well, Froyo for the base GalaxyS came out last year. September to be exact. It's not like they just released Froyo 2 months ago... It just took until February for them to port it to most other "custom" GalaxyS devices (like the Vibrant).
Hopefully it won't take as long for the porting process to work again.
I know I saw somewhere that T-Mobile said that they would be faster when it comes to updates. Hopefully this is true, and we get Gingerbread. I don't care if they put touchwiz on there, because as soon as the source code is released, HELLO custom ROM's, and CM7 stable.
If they just put it on mini kies then all will be great if they do release it to the vibrant thats how we will be able to get it anyway.
For the US versions, see u in 2012
Ginger bread 2 months after they release S2 here I figure that would be August or Sept............ but then, i am an optimist
pfft... 2012 guess is too inaccurate
I have insider info that they are going to release it at 11:59:59:999
And one milisecond after they release the earth will get sucked up by a black hole...
And it turns out that the update was an accidental leak, and that all the bricked vibrants caused the black hole... due to all the Samoled screen displaying black

Desire HD apparently getting theirs OTA now. Surely ours should not be far behind.....Surely?
What it means when ours is released is hopefully rmk40 will release an official virtuous 2.0 rom. It might also move us closer to the point where they release the kernel source and we can start seeing overclocking kernels for Gingerbread sense roms. (and trackpad wake etc)
According to Engadget:
"That just leaves the Desire Z and original Desire, both of which should be joining the party by the end of June. "
So more or less two months later. No matter, maybe they will make even more fixes and changes for us. (Maybe a version of Sense 3.0 for our "weaker" phones - but I doubt that)

The only reason they are saying end of June, is because HTC said it would happen by end of Q2. So it can happen anytime between now and the end of June.

Given the track record with everyone involved regarding prompt releases (Google, T-Mobile), it'll be at least November before it's actually available. How many months were us old Dream users waiting on Cupcake? Donut? Eclair (which turned out to be vaporware for the Dream)?

Another warranty exchange got me 2.2!

Hey guys, for any of you who received a warranty exchange G2 with 2.3.3 from Tmo recently you might want to try getting another exchange if you want the 2.2 build for rooting purposes. I saw the article on Tmonews stating that Tmo was internally calling the Gingerbread release an "error" so I figured I'd give it a shot and go for another exchange.
Anyway, long story short, I got my phone today, it came with 2.2 and I'm a happy camper with a rooted G2 once more!
(And this time I rooted with Adb instead of Visionary like I did the first time! A big thanks to the folks at XDA for creating such a great rooting guide, and a big thanks to the kind folks in #g2root who were willing to take the time to help a relative noob through it!)
My replacement is coming today. I lost all hope that it would come with 2.2 but this has given me hope! Ill **** my pants if it has good ol crappy 2.2 on it!

How was the battery life compared to Froyo? Cause I bought a brand new G2 and the guy said it was a replacement phone. The battery life sucks for me and I don't even have the data hooked up yet. Was it significantly better w/ Froyo? Tmo is willing to send me a new replacement but I'm not sure what to do yet.
