I'll Have To Admit! Dell Streak Is Bad Ass! And Here Is Why! - Streak 5 General

My latest discovery of tTorrent pro and transdroid has sent me to love this device even more. Its like my little personal computer... A downloading machine. While having an Unlimited plan and being already over 50gb its kinda of fun. I mean wherever I go I can locate anything I need atm.
Ofcourse the big screen for the latest movies via MX Player or Mobi Player is really great with the large screen.
Tethering via Portable Hot spot is awesome...
Amazon mp3, kindle, shopping and a free app every day ...
Emulaters and Games nice and big is always nice...
Sirus XM Radio ...
Color Note for all my basic note needs ...
I mean what am I going to do when my Streak breaks and I can no longer get another one? Also I wonder if one day I will have to upgrade to 4g LTE and my 3g Unlimited Data plan will not bridge over to or turn into 4g LTE Unlimited Data plan. What if I just buy a 4g LTE device and pop my SIM card in it I wonder if that would work. I have Unlimited Smartphone plan not a specific speed plan.
Well Anyways hope you had fun reading my posts or any other of my posts. Tell me why you like your Dell Streak ...
Last note though I do agree with a lot of members here that the dell streak should have continued because like they said I get the same exact thing to this day. What kind of phone is that? WoW that is nice and big also sleek. I really think if Dell positioned it better and opened it to more carriers it would be a much more success.
Best,
Streaking With My Streak ...

I love my streak! its the best phone I've ever used, for personal use...
It's snappy! Currently, I use a motorola atrix for my work phone... only because my dell streak does not meet the security standards for my corporate email, but that is the only reason. I think my Streak is just as snappy as my Atrix, and given the larger screen size.. It's fantastic!
I even went as far as to buy two additional streaks, for if and when I break the one I'm using.
Thank goodness for DJ Steve's GB build! I'm crazy excited to see what he can do with ICS!
I own a streak 7 as well, but I love my streak 5 best of all!

I agree...I love my streak....and the ttorrent app is great

Thinking of buying a Dell Streak

Hi.
I'm quite impressed by the freaking huge screen on the Dell Streak but have a few concerns when it comes to Data Usage...
The plan Im looking at for it (Optus) only has 2GB Data. Would I go over this if I just use Facebook, MSN and occasional Google Maps day after day on it? I rarely download music and don't watch any streaming content. Might take a look at CNN or The Australian once in a while.
Or am I better off with a Blackberry Torch on unlimited BIS (Data) plan?
EDIT: Oh and I've never used Android before.
I can say with certainty, if you do not download music or movies... no way you'll exceed 2gb. You wont even exceed 500kb.
Save your downloading for WiFi and you're fine.
PS: I have 1gb plan and EASILY stay under that.

Oh... and...
My blackberry (for work) collects dust these days. Don't waste your time with blackberry unless messaging is your primary thing.
For media/web experience, blackberry doesn't compare... and it is not even close.

Looking to buy a dell streak need some advice.

I've been around android since android first came out and plan on sticking with android for a long time. I currently own a rooted nexus one and I'm thinking about switching to a dell streak. I don't mind the big size of the phone for I'm the type that figures the bigger the better. Here's a few questions that I have. (I'm also aware that the streak only as of right now runs froyo 2.2)
1. Is it worth the switch from a nexus one to the streak?
2. Is the streak capable to handle a 3.0 honeycomb upgrade?
3. What a some major cons about the streak that you experienced user's feel are worth sharing?
4. Is the streak worth rooting? And why?
I'll google that and get back to you.
Edit: Never mind: Click Here
Nice one MOD EDIT. Keep your comments to yourself.
I can't help you with #1 or #2 - I simply don't know the answers. (I've never used a Nexus One.)
Strictly considering it as a phone, it's a big hunk of glass and a little unwieldy to use. The ergonomics are clunky (try holding a PopTart up to your ear) and the proximity sensor on mine is hit or miss. (e.g. when I take the phone off of my ear to delete a voice mail, the screen often stays dark.)
Whatever issues I have with it as a phone are more than made up for everywhere else. The 5" screen is the perfect portable, pocketable tablet size. Beautiful screen, easy to be productive on in terms of email, reviewing documents, etc. It's replaced my Tab as my portable/couch-surfing tablet and my Garmin as an in-car GPS - I think it's as versatile a gadget as I've ever had.
As for rooting the Streak, I guess it depends on what you'd like to do with it. I rooted mine, but just to enable tethering.
Just asking a question, no meed to be MOD EDIT about it.

Are you with at&t? If so what bandwidth limit does at&t cap you at? I know T-Mobile caps you at 5GB.
Tbh. I agreed with Marvin's post. Google is your friend. Indeed, the search function is an even better friend.
Edit: once you've used the streak, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

I have an unlocked version, but I use it on AT&T - I have the unlimited data plan they used to sell with the iPhone.
I'm not completely current with their data plans, but I think they are relatively reasonable.
The streak is great, i almost don't use my netbook anymore. The camera is not great, and the speaker is not great for media (but wait till you see the video). Also, I'm getting the impression that its pretty delicate, so don't drop it!
Its very thin and about the size of your pocket, you you almost don't know its in there.
Of course you will want to root it, why not? You will need to upgrade the ROM if it comes with 1.6, which is just horrible. I'm using DJ_Steve's custom ROM, almost as much of an upgrade as coming from 1.6. Just fantastic...

I second that one. I didn't own Nexus One, but during last two years I used G1, iPhone, n900 and now Dell Streak. When I look at G1 it just looks so tiny now. Dell Streak definitely catches attention
I cant say much about phone function, I just don't use phone any more, but as all-around internet device I'm very happy with it. For browsing net, news, IM, apps large screen does big difference in my opinion, and you can still fit it into jeans pocket, if you don't have these tiny-tiny pockets.
I personally don't see any major drawbacks of this device. Maybe docking station is little expensive.
I have both and use them both regularly. Mostly I use the nexus for when I need something great and small. I use he Streak for mostly everything else. I have yet to be throttled by att and have had some huge months. I use them both as the internet connection for my OQO model 02 at work so I can complete my college assignments. If you have any questions pertaining to either or both just pm me and I will get you what I can. Its worth it, I even got my wife the white one from best buy. I think it will be able to handle honeycomb but can't be sure. Also it will be weather or not someone is willing to make a rom.

1. Used both and like streak better. faster and love the screen estate
2.I think so , but wouldnt want to go there until it offers something that is substantially bigger. Going from 1.6 to 2.2 was huge and was needed . However from 2.2 to 3. dont know
3.Very little support from developers. Except for steve( and fards) and his company , none...
I wish more developers come here( however must add that steve and fards is doing a great job. this is a great device.
4.Absolutely.. any android device for that matter.
Must add that : This device is larger than a normal smartphone and u will love it if u have a big hand... I have had many of my friends who had difficulty with size.
I had a rooted nexus one on tmo. The streak offers practically everything the n1 does. The only benefits n1 has over streak that is worth mentioning is more baked roms, and it gets first dibs on updates.
Btw att cap is 2gb. Its a joke if youre a heavy user or plan on tethering.

I've owned both, nexus was fun until it decided to blow up on a brotha. The streak is everything one would ever ask for in a phone. And the wow factor is insane. Most people don't believe its a phone until u prove it lol. The only problems for me are the lack of development from attention and a few hardware incapatabilities with a few apps(chase). So of course u must root and Dj steve and creek are amazing. Been running 1.6.1 since release with no problems. LOVE THIS PHONE!!!

I have unlimited as most people who have owned smartphones n the past should also have. I heard somewhere that attention doesn't offer unlimited anymore, if that's true then that's just wrong. No way u can truly get the most out of these type phones if u don't have unlimited data.

Yes, att does NOT offer unlimited data anymore. Honestly tho, I had unlimited data on tmo, att, and sprint and Im a pretty heavy user, but I dont think I ever broke the 2gb point (came close to it). However I SHOULD add that I dont really youtube or pandora on the go, and also im straight wifi as soon as I get home from school or work.
I was worried when I jumped back to att with the cap, but when I started monitoring my usages, most of em were at home so I dont worry anymore. But if youre the type that has to stream music or movies regularly on the go, or dont have wifi access, then stay away from these data cap plans.

I've hit my 5GB limit last month with T-Mobile and fear that 2GB might not be enough for me lol. By reading all these posts I see that there are more pros then cons with this device and that more people are happy with it. I called at&t and asked them about getting more then 2GB from them and they told me its going to cost $10 per gigabyte a month. Here's my other question. What are your monthly bills looking like? Are you guys paying more then $100 a month with your plans? And which plan is more worth going with? I've been with T-Mobile for 6 years and don't wanna regret switching to at&t.
Can't comment on the Nexus one...
The Streak is an awesome take anywhere device. Its one of a kind right now.

If you are switching from T-mobile then you will miss the customer service and the billing with t-mobile is very consistent. I had switch to at&t because the signal with t-mobile was non existent in rural cities and highways in mississippi. I will say i miss my old t-mobile plan. $94 dollars for unlimited everything and that included tax. My bill is like $115 with taxes with AT&T. I say if you are trying to switch to AT&T you must follow my checklist:
1.Bring in your own device so you are not binded to a contract.
2.Browse the ebay or other sites for people trying to transfer their service that have the unlimited data.
3.Make sure you prepare to see a higher bill by budgeting.

No more Streaking for me...

Well its been 11months of fun but my Streaking days are up!!!
My device is still working perfectly, even though I have a small crack in the Gorilla glass from my 9 month old baby and her newly appeared teeth!!!
I was due an upgrade so have moved over to the Samsung Galaxy S2 - with the specs of the phone, I can't go wrong here, though I will miss the size of the Steaks screen especially when watching any type of video!!!
what would everyone recommend I do with my Streak and the accessories I have for it???
As far as I can see I have three options
1. Keep my Streak, car kit and cases and use for Sat nav in the car.
2. Sell phone to a website that recycles old phones (£80) and then sell accessories on ebay.
3. Sell the whole lot on ebay as a package, clearly stating that the screen has a small crack, and see what I can get for it.
What would people here suggest I do???
thanks in advance

Put it on ebay. You may get over 250.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Keep the Streak in your car as your Sat Nav option while you have it listed on a free site (Craigslist or similar) to see if you can get $$$ out of it. If you can't get at least the $80 you could get from the recycler, go that route.
Good luck!
However my streak is bricked, I will never ever leave it. . My friend has finished JTAG and the streak is working but not recognizing the SIM. In this case, I will use as SAT Nav and media player . I will never ever leave it.
Streak out someone else
Dude, sell it on eBay and mention the faults. Com'on, it's only fair you let another man know of the joys of owning, holding and using a streak. It's something EVERYMAN should experience no matter what! LoL. I am glad I move over from my iPhone 4 to the MIGHTY DELL STREAK. It's pure romance.

Dell Streak Dead or Alive?

I have a Dell Streak 5. I even have an extra one because of a shipping mix up. I have I think the latest factory rom with super user installed and clockwork recovery. Is this it for the Dell Streak 5? Anything else on the horizon? Or is it just an old phone waiting to die. Should I be exicited about the the new phones with 4G LTE or just be content with my 3G Unlimited and Dell Streak 5 until both break?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I plan to use mine till the next Nexus device in 2012.
sell it as quickly as you can, the dell streak is a ticking time bomb
Keeper for at least another year
I got my unlocked, unbranded Streak 5 last April direct from Dell and am loving it on my still unlimited 3G on AT&T. It is my primary business do-everything phablet. If I had a second one, I would start playing with ROMs.
I'll be happy here until the price points on LTE comes down to acceptable range and wider coverage - maybe this time next year. I would love an LTE/GSM unlocked and unbranded with a similar form factor.
My 1.45 cents (after taxes).

* reaction in wrong thread
Edit: It was dead and now it's alive again!
I've contacted dell and they say streak 5 is no more. That's why there's a sale here last month.
Quick answer: Dead
helf dead.....i'm only use it as a GPS now
Dead... since the first day it's in the world...
I contacted Dell and they say it's only dead if you believe it is.
i just got one.. so its not dead for me....
gingerbread 2.3.3 (407) installed and tweaked and running pretty good so far.
i dont expect it to be my go to device but it rocks as a your a dirty girl/not getting my real number phone.. and is fantastic as a GPS and PDA for my truck.
just need to do the research and find what is the most stable ROM, yet updated reasonably.
Would have said the Dell Streak was kinda fading away until CM7 came out (see other topic in this section) - now I have that installed its back to being very much alive! If your using the buggy 407 make the effort to get to CM7 - it's not that hard and it is so worth it.
Dell Streak rockin all over again!
So is it officially dead?

legendary
Like Nissan with the beloved Datsun 240Z, Dell will start buying up all the broken and bricked streaks. They will then refurbish them with original parts, flash them all with donut 1.6 and put them to market at a premium and the oleskool collectors will snap them up and store them in vacuum sealed glass case displays.
Well everyone I really like the idea of the Galaxy Note and maybe even the Galaxy Note 2 but you know what I am kinda over the whole phone tablet big screen craze. I think I care more about phone quality, reliability, and speed more than anything. I think I am going to consider the Galaxy Nexus or the Galaxy S III and call it a day.

I never believed in that phone / tablet hype. Any phone bigger than 5 inch is just not even practical, for me that is. It's probably the best for mobile browsing and reading some stuff on the net when I'm on the go but that's it. It can't and will never act like a tablet for my purpose, for that I need a minimum of 9" and therefore it will always be a phone and organizing tool to me.
As for the nexus or s3, I suggest to wait a bit longer and you will probably have a much better (faster/prettier/more capable) device.
Dead. They stopped making it. Only refurbs. I do have one new in the box unopened though.

I sold mine too - to CEX in the UK. I traded it in for a galaxy tab and bought a much smaller phone (xperia x8). On the thought process that I could use a proper sized phone for daily use and the galaxy tab for all the other stuff...
How wrong was I...
I found after all this time being a Streaker that the x8 was underpowered even changing to 2.3 didn't help and the galaxy tab was too big to take anywhere without a bag so barely got used.
I missed my Streak so much I went and traded it all back in again and bought my old Streak back!
Bought 2nd Dell Streak
Love my Dell Streak so much I bought a 2nd one.
Had a Moto Xoom Tablet, felt like a poser carrying the tablet around.
Sold the Xoom, it did nothing the Streak couldn't do. And I can have the streak with me anywhere unlike a 10" tablet.
Keep your Streak!
Add me to those who are Streakless.
I replaced the Streak as my everyday phone back in December and sold my Streak on eBay recently. I went with the mini-Streak (Dell Venue, the best Android phone no one has heard of). The Venue is essentially a Streak with a 4.1 inch screen. If anyone wants an unlocked phone that is a smaller version of the Streak keep an eye on the Dell outlet pages, they sell the Venue refurbished for $179 when they have them. I am riding the trailing edge of Android innovation!
I wanted a smaller everyday phone but really liked the Streak, the Venue fits my needs.
We also purchased an Android tablet right before Christmas which I use for many of the things I used to use the Streak for at home.
For over a year I have visited this area of XDA almost everyday and read nearly every post. I'm sure I keep hanging around a while longer, but my participation will drop off.
If you are new to the Streak and come across this post I want to remind you that all of the information you need to mod your phone is right here. Search and read - then do ti again. There is a lot of info and you need to read it in detail.
Thanks to all who made using the Streak a better experience by sharing their knowledge and for having the patience to help the new people along.
