My Note has this **** too on my first few days of using. Then somehow I followed the info in it and sms a text to a number and i stopped getting it Before I thought it's a virus, I installed 2 kinds of scanning to do full scan but found nothing.

Download an app called airpush detector, it will find what app is doing it and let you delete it, mine was mp3 music downloader

Thanks, oh I have mp3 music downloader app installed too. So only way to remove that airpush ad is to remove my app?

Airpush. yes, I already installed that too. those had a different kinda ad pushing to xapush.com or something. I got rid of those, but these ones with the *star* still pop up!! I cleared the earlier one, and just as I write, they're promoting another "Game of the day"
arrrgggghhh pisses me off
anybody know what I can disable? some apk somewhere I'm guessing, but what?

its not an Android Market ad is it? cos I disabled Goggle's 'interest-based ads' already too!

Anybody ideas from anyone else? Anybody else getting this?

Do you habe GPSFix installed on your phone?

Well it's a Market app that's pushing this **** out, so uninstall one and one app until it stops.

I don't have GPSFIX installed. And I've so many market apps I don't know how I'm supposed to fin the guilty one

i've never seen anything vulgar as that on my phone

Why don't you all just do what is said some posts before and install AirPush Detector from the Market, it will guide you to the app that is causing the spam. Simply remove the app, and you are fine again.

Tunee music pushes adds like this as we'll.... But I've only got them with the gingerbread and up version of said program, which always gives failed downloads on the note for me. The pre gingerbread version works great and doesn't deliver these ads for me. those types of ads are certainly annoyimg...

AirPush Detector is the win! Deleted that offending app. Thanks for the tips!

Ditto to that. Thanks for the tip! After 3 years of android I've still so much to learn!

Hmm... Strange? Have you tried to reboot the phone? Cause i know there is some S7 service running behind my phone.. :S
AFAIK, My Sgs is rooted and i use an app called "Market Access" which emulates Different Sim card numbers on your phone to access the Android market of different regions. This app also works with Samsung apps and i have been able to get region specific apps through this method
Yeah, CabSG has appeared on my Samsung Apps. Apparently I'm from Asia. Yeah Samsung I think you've got this one wrong.
I also get the taxi app... ?? However when. I try to install the email apk from first post i get an error saying That i do not have enough space on my phone... And That is not true i have lots of space left on my phone.
I get this same error when i try to install the kart racing app. From Samsung apps...
Does anyone have an idea what i could do?
still no luck i keep getting no seven service

I also had this on my previous gs2, with my new one the update again showed and this time a camera firmware update was available.
P.s there was nothing wrong with the previous one, apart from the guy at p4u sold me there demo phone, which after a week started to grate me, so I took it back and got a new one. Sad I know, but when you pay £499 you want new ;-)
Mine says there's an update everyday but nothing shows and its really annoying.

No never had or seen it, when I first used Samsung Apps it updated the App software but that's it. Now I get this update message everyday then says no data on the screen and when I click on the New tab it just lists apps.
Oh and I never even see the 1 update available message as shown in the screenshot I just get the alert in the notifications area.
I think if you guys go to that Samsung app store, find "accuweather widget" and install it (even though you already have one, that one in the Samsung Market will say "new install", not "update").
Your update prompt will then disappear. I think this is related to a bug in how the Samsung Market links installed apps to updates.
Be warned though that new/updated widget changed a lot. But you can always roll back updates right in Samsung market app.
can anyone confirm what I described is true?

I can confirm this. I also got this update message showing, but when I clicked it, there was no update visible. Anyway, somehow I managed to install the update and it indeed seemed to be Accuweather. Only thing is that it did overwrite the stock widget with another widget. I liked the stock widget more, so I uninstalled Accuweather and the stock widget returned.
Also I looked through the apps and there's a new version of kies air so I installed that.

amazing battery life

Just few quick tips that will help you get amazing results:
1. get the app called Autostarts from the market
2. in the app kill after reboot google maps, talk and social hub(you can find it on scond line in the application from the possible options.
3. Get Titanium
freeze wifi sharing manager and wifi manager.
You are done
Enjoy!
Have you tried dl'ing anything from the market after doing this? Because in the help section it says you might not be able to dl anything from it if you disable Google Talk.
Why not just log out from Google Talk instead?

I was meaning google voice but not google talk.
SORRY!

I think the point is to have it done automatically every time.
Exactly! You can stop them manually but they will reappear again. With the program mentioned above you can do it for good - google maps, google voice will not longer drain the battery without need. Tiatanium will take care for wifi sharing manager and wifi manager - yet another big, big battery drainer that won't affect the phone in any way
Thanks for the tip. I got the program autostarts but I am not able to manually disable google map and voice. I just see several lines of google services framework. Is this it?

Time to do some testing. I already had autostarts on another recommendation, but was lost on what to do with it.
I have found that using a very (very) minimal homescreen on a black background, using a dark profile for all apps that have the option, and turning wifi off when not needed, I can get at least 2 and a half days out of one charge with light use.
Going to see if this impacts my numbers any. Thanks!

The trick of my recommendation is that the phone is folling in deep sleep when not in use and by that way you can almost double the battery life, of course if not in constant use. To be sure that you are doing alright go get frkm tne market Battery monitor widget, install the widget and if you are running at about 50mA in sleep mode you are just fine.

Play store: Admob Ads

I wake up this morning with a green "+" in my notification bar. So i scroll down the bar and to my dismay its an advertisement.... Adware on my phone! As I'm sure most of you woke up to the same thing, if you updated to the Play Store. Turns out Play store by default has a setting enabled called "admob ads"
I guess it doesnt collect data on how to advertise things for you, so its not technically adware, but pretty damn annoying.
I use my phone for work almost all day long. I barley can stand it when I see google maps show an ad when I search for a clients address.
The ad mob setting has been there for awhile. I have always had it disabled so no adware for me.

Isn't adware defined by the action of displaying ads rather than collecting data - hence the name adware...
or is my logic too... logical?
Regardless, here is Google's official statement, from the "learn more" link in the admob settings: http://www.google.com/ads/preferences/html/mobile-about.html
It says the exact opposite of your assertion - the admob preference is explicitly to decide whether ads are based on your interests, with no option to stop the collection of data. That setting only decides if the ad server has access to the data, which will be collected either way.
Also, it only pertains to apps that display ads within, with no mention of ads in the status bar - yours had to have been caused by something external to google play; it has nothing to do with the admob preferences. Be sure to confirm this when your next popup occurs, okay? Thanks in advance
EDIT: Here is a screenshot of the Play store's settings screen:
[The new XDA app doesn't seem to upload images properly... stand by for correction via computer...]
It clearly shows that activating the option, rather than turning ads on or off, will decide whether the ads that will be displayed either way are generic or personalized

Guys go to the link I posted on the first page (2nd post of this thread). That's the source of this app. It belongs to Team BlackOut. If you want to follow the actual development of this app, and not report bugs to some random person just sharing the app who hasn't replied back to this thread once, go there. There's probably newer versions since this OP posted this anyways.
