Can we not start 1,000,001 threads about ICS please There is going to be alot of rumours in the comming months, most will prob not be true. I remember when i had a DHD and we was waiting for the GB update. DHD general was packed with threads and threads about every rumour

Sounds terrible, I'll probably stick with Gingerbread if there's no skinned version.

Yea I'm with Androhero why couldn't this just be posted in one of the many other ics threads? I personally could care less its all just rumours until its actually here it does nothing for me just reading about what it could be just let it die already enough is enough

Are you.... serious? I would have thought vanilla would have been everyone's flavour. Imagine, no bloatware off the bat. I would be tempted to go back to stock.

Ugh... the R800x hasn't even been upgrade to 2.3.4... I don't expect any miracles with 4.0 unless SE & VZW get their act straight with this newer release.

If I believed everything I read off twitter...............

I can put up with a bit of bloatware if it comes with a nice UI.

All Android stock interfaces until Honeycomb are terribly bland. While Google has been improving their UI, other developers (both corporate and Indie) have not kept the same pace. While everyone was desperate to get the stock Froyo launcher out of their lives, now with ICS people want to have it instead of their stock one.

I'm just looking forward to the native hardware acceleration, so the UI runs more smoothly. Everything else is great about this device with 2.3.4 installed.

I second that. The only thing I'm looking forward to is hardware acceleration as Android little lags annoys the hell out of me and does not make for a nice user experience. I'm happy either way, if they release an unskinned version or put their UI (most likely) on top of it as I really like the SE launcher.

I honestly don't mind if they use their own UI as I love it or use Vanilla, I love Vanilla ICS, Bloatware is not a big issue for me I don't care I just Freeze it.

Google releases Honeycomb in february? already?

just saw this new on phonearena... two more months for a new version of android and we dont even have a beta ROM of gingerbread xD
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Honeycomb-now-due-for-February-launch-as-Android-2.4_id15400
Maybe Honeycomb was design specifically with tablets/higher res devices in mind?
I agree. Honeycomb was mentioned as being tablet centric. I don't think there will be much that will affect the phone side. I think that's the big reason they're making it a 2.4 release instead of 3.0. That and I think it is also to get more android tablets out before the iPad 2 is released. That's my theory.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I hope thats the reason... otherwise i will start hating my slide real bad xD
Well look at it this way. T-Mo/HTC can Skip over Gingerbread and go to Honeycomb since the time difference between 2.3 and 2.4 are so short.

If honeycomb is being designed with Tablets in mind, there'd be no reason to put it on a phone. Screen sizes won't match at all.

True but it all depends on what features Google adds in addition to tablet support.
I see Honeycomb as adding Major Support for Tablets. If it was just an update only for Tablets they probably wouldn't given it a codename. Just left it Gingerbread but 2.4. Again just my theory.
i hope 2.4 does end up tablet centric, otherwise it 2.3 would be a waste if time.
MMMM... Honeycomb !

[Q] Google Talk with Video?

Do you guys think this will be a market update or software update since the Nexus S is getting it in 2.3.4?
Maybe Samsung is waiting until then to give us official Gingerbread?
Thoughts?
Looks to me like Google is only going to do it on 2.3 phones, with 2.3 already percolating, we Epic users shouldn't have to wait too long.
"Google Talk with video and voice chat will gradually roll out to Nexus S devices in the next few weeks as part of the Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update and will launch on other Android 2.3+ devices in the future," Google explained in a blog post, which also offers a screenshot and demo video.

Hopefully someone can do something with this . Google talk with video presumably integrates better with the android os than other alternatives, so it makes sense Google is integrating it into 2.3 instead of back supporting 2.2... that said, only the stock or "developer" android phones like nexus one and nexus s will be getting these right now...

Video calling framework has actually been built into Android since at least 2.1. If you check our hidden menus, there are all kinds of options for it, except the part that actually lets you make a video call.
I'd also wager that it'll pretty seamlessly interface with FaceTime since Gizmo5 pretty much did what FaceTime did using the same protocols and standards, except it was doing it back in '06.

Come on already who cares about gingerbread? Ics is the new flavor fav of the month

Let's face it once google announced the ics as the next version of android why do some people still want gb when ics can be leaked and used on our phones. Google needs to be the one doing the updates not the carriers and phone makers. Google should open a beta and prebeta builds to all who want them.

For someone who's been around since the 70's you seem to not understand the development life cycle of a product to be expecting such an asinine thing to happen.
Using win7 (retail) to win8 (alpha) argument proves your failure to grasp that.
BTW, i love how decad3nce pwned your last post. LOL

Because to us Gingerbread is the most important release ever! Gingerbread was made with Hummingbird in mind..ICS is a huge improvement for dual core phones..while we definitely get some new features, you would not notice such huge performance increases as you do with Gingerbread.
Locked. OP, check your pm's.

Ice Cream Sandwich screen shots. Real?

Below are some screen shots of Ice Cream Sandwich. More in the Album linked below.
Looks pretty legit.

The closer and closer we get to the Unpacked event we get to see their sweets. Either way the UI is nice and I hope they changed the media player and Music
I found this about a half hour ago, saying that and Samsung are going to postpone http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...d-Google-cancel-Nexus-Prime-phone-launch.html unpacked.
Saw the video and I really really like the UI a lot!! Hopefully the prime will go to tmobile in December or even January, hope it does.... I prefer this because it will be the latest and the greatest smartphone with its non-capacitive button design and latest OS..
if that's real, it looks alright. though, i'm surprised at kernel 3.0.1. the switch to 3.0 was just over two months ago, so it would surprise me to see it on android already (considering Ubuntu is still on 2.6.38 and Fedora is using 2.6.40, i would think the full linux distros would be changing the kernel version to 3.0 before android).
Hopefully with Google improving Androids UI, less manufacturers would mess with it.
^^ the manufacturers will always have their own signature of android launcher to differentiate their devices from the rest.. I don't mind it at all as long as they make the UI better and add useful functionality into it..
Is ICS gonna be 2.4 or 4.0?
I just wish that manufacturers would make their launcher work like any other third party launcher instead of integrating it like they do.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If it's a straight Google phone, won't the launcher be ICS stock?
Just something I noticed. Where is the "battery use "in the settings?

I think the fonts are better than current Android versions, but I'm not that impressed.
It's still asking for OEMs to molest it, as well, which is unfortunate.
Not enthused.

[Q] ICS update for R800x, wonder if it will be sooner then other X-PLAYS

I was thinking since Verizons Xperia PLAY does not use the TimeScape and uses Vanilla Gingerbread ROM. I'm wondering if Verizons ICS update (if it does come out) would be released much sooner then the rest of the Xplays as SE would not have to mash their custom overlay to it. I wold imagine that with the some time and the bug testing and whatnot you wold think that the update should be pretty pain free. Just my thoughts.
Doubt it, they already stated that the Xperia Play models will get the update between April and May. They wouldn't push it out twice for the same device in my opinion.
the problem with the r800x is that verizon is in control of the updates, and so far they have done a bad job of it...we still don't have 2.3.4...
it makes sense due to no custom overlay, but we are talking about verizon...
i hope (i know its not true) but hope that they stopped doing 2.3.4 so they can push 4.0 out faster....haha i know
Keep dreaming...
If you look at the history of going from 2.3.2 - 2.3.3 - 2.3.4 your model has always been last to get the update even though it is bare bones android.
At best you should wait for ICX to release a CDMA version.
Or wait for CM9
It would be waaaayyy faster than waiting for Verizon.
Btw CM9 will be here by the end of next month
cm9 would be sweet, but just like verizon, cdma seems to be the big sucking point and we probably won't get cm9 for a long time either...

FXP has been pretty good on release schedules for CM7 updates, and is planning on releasing for the Play. It may be another 2-3 weeks after the GSM release, but CDMA will follow up.

Even my boyfriend who works for Verizon says they don't give a crap about supporting their customers. I'd be surprised if you guys ever saw an official ICS update.
No worries though, we have awesome devs =D
Who cares anyway? Verizon doesn't owe us anything, they never promised upgrades for the rest of your phone's life.
And like anything else in life, if you really want something, do it yourself, instead of relying on some government or corporation to do it for you.
Isn't that what xda is all about? Getting what we want, regardless of what the phone companies say?
