Acer's new quad core tablet, the A200 - Acer Iconia A500

Acer launched a private video of their new quad core ICS tablet, and guess what, I got the link!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tD3vTHeaaI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Update: Turns out that its the same old tegra 2 after all, with all the same feature of our A500 but lighter!

thanks for sharing! Looks like Acer will finally have their own tablet UI rather than vanilla. The buttons look nice, and the ring is interesting

I must have missed where it stated in the video that it was a quad core tegra 3
" Acer has spilled the beans on its upcoming Iconia A200 tablet in a melancholic promotional video.
The new tablet was spotted a few weeks ago by some keen observers over at androidcommunity.com, but now we can finally see it in action.
What sets the Iconia A200 apart from most upcoming Android tablets is that it is a rather frugal device, clearly aimed at the value market. However, it still packs a 10-inch 1280x800 screen and Tegra 2 processor, so it’s hardly underpowered.
The Iconia A200 also features USB connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 and microSD slot. There is no word on the launch date or pricing for that matter, but it should end up on the cheap side."
http://www.fudzilla.com/notebooks/item/25013-acer-leaks-iconia-a200-tablet
" Credited for posting the video on YouTube, a French blogging site called iLoveTablette.com (English translation) offered a few more specs on the A200.
Powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, the tablet will offer 1GB of RAM and sport a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. Weighing just 1.5 pounds, the A200 will be lighter than its A500 predecessor. And it will be offered in a choice of two colors: black titanium or metallic red."

I just watched this video and what's really funny is that Motorola stole the Iconias look with the xoom 2 and Acer stole the Xooms look. Crazy

Got hands-on with one. Missing docking port, rear camera, and HDMI out. Also, no fake SIM slot. Front camera is centered on a long side instead of an inch from the edge on a short side.

according to all the posts and forums and web videos etc.. the A200 is Tegra2 i.e. dual core. The biggest thing about the A200 is it will come with ICS more ore less out of the box. It will ship with 3.2.1 but an OTA update should be available by ship date.

I had this tab for 48 hours. I have the 500 and 100 so I figured I'll take this for a test drive. I have to say its the best feeling tab out. The back is like butter. Performance wise nothing different. Custom widget is actually good. Screen appears to be better then the 500. The reason why I didn't keep it was no HDMI which I use while traveling to watch Netflix in the hotel. Or at home I sometimes will hook my tab up to TV and use my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for internet TV. Or if it had a dock port that would have been acceptable. give it 2 months this tab will be 250-275 all day.
Just a side note while returning this tab I was able to get a open Sammy 8.9 for 350. Never thought I would like it and its pretty good. Especially since the mic works (with BT head set too) now I can Skype.

Nexus T?

http://androidheadlines.com/2011/05/rumor-10-inch-toshiba-tab-is-nexus-t-and-google-io-swag.html
what do you guys think? will this be the nexus tablet? i sure hope it is.. as i am still waiting a announcement from google i/o before jumping into XOOM...
i should had have my xoom weeks ago, but my supplier delayed me.. and now google io is just a week away, i sure hope they announce that this is the nexus tablet.
and i quite like the specs. (don't mind it being heavier and thicker).
it has HDMI port (i belive is full size, not mini), USB port, mini USB port and a dock port as well.
the only thing missing is a micro SD card? but if the USB and mini USB works, we can just plug in any card reader.
But it is ugly. As you said, thicker and heavier. I hate that silver thingie.
Oh my, i hope this is not google nexus tablet.
Website says it does have an SD slot.
I am curious what the retail price on it is. if it is above or below Xoom mainly.
i hope it isn't a Nexus Tablet. I mean the specs are pretty dam close to the Xoom. Its like the Nexus S all over again. anyone who has a tablet already has no reason to buy it. Now if it had a Tegra 3 in it and not a 2 then yes it would be something to buy. I mean the USB port is nice and all but really the Xoom has a SDcard slot kinda the same to me.
how about the battery life.
it suppose to be 3x better than normal lithium battery plus its interchangeable..
my concern is always about updates coming stright from google.
at the moment, xoom's update comes from motorola, not from google directly.
hence at the moment, i am holding off xoom untill after google IO....
Pretty positive that at I/O there will be welcome packages of either the Nexus S 4G and the usual T-Shirt. At the keynote, I think they'll announce that everyone's getting either the Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Xoom.
All I know is that it is what I am getting, I just purchased the Xoom to hold me over until it was released, my return date for the Xoom is in June when this is to be released. I hate motorola products but wanted something to see what Honeycomb was like and since this was the only one worth getting at the time well the only one that was around.
Acer and Asus are worse than Motorola, have owned laptops from both and quickly disposed of them!!! I have three Toshiba computers and like them very much, plus the back of that tab can be replaced with different color backs just like a silicone case and that is the ONLY tablet with a removable battery!!!
This is the link to the tab's web site. http://thetoshibatablet.com/
hmm good point made in the comments over there ... both front and back cameras are in portrait mode... Honeycomb is made for landscape mode use...this looks like a potential 2.2/2.3 tablet... hardly a Nexus.
Doubt it's the nexus tablet.
Evo Better Than The Best...
i guess we just have to sit tight till google IO to find out. which ever it is, as long as google is going to provide the update, i am getting that.

Yea this is a really big indicator. Honeycomb's UI is almost exclusively made for widescreen landscape use, not portrait. Not sure why they'd have the cameras set up for portrait use.
No, it is a Honeycomb tablet.

The xoom although receive updates from Motorola but it has no custom skins or anything anywhere whatsoever. So, xoom or nexus tablet are both good choices. Plus, the xoom were given away at either CES or mwc by google. That proves the xoom is already one of the few chosen kids.

weird camera placement for a honeycomb tab then. very weird.
love the XOOM cameras ... they're both very very good.
I'd guess it is simply being called 'Toshiba Tablet' judging on the URL etc.
and why not?
Also with the Xoom being out and about - I can't imagine Google needs a Nexus X device for a tablet? wait till 3.1/4.0 for another Nexus device?

Anyone thinking about lenovo ideapad k1

Is anyone thinking of jumping ship to lenovo ideapad k1? Looks like a nice device almost similar to the tab in specs, less expensive, has netflix app support. Only thing is I don't know how much thicker it is compared to the tab. It also comes with a custom launcher but has an option to disable it.
Suppose to be available from jul 28th, below is the engadget article with video.

I'm about to pre-order one from Lenovo as we speak. I was debating between this and Galaxy Tab, but I'm pretty sure that the build quality of Lenovo's offering will be superior. The only thing that troubles me is the battery life. I've owned two Lenovo noteboks in the past 3 years and, while I enjoy the hardware, the battery life is the weakest feature and definitely lags behind the competition in that department. Maybe they did some tweaking when it comes to tablets, but be warned.
That thing is hideous! Pass!
I don't think lenovo has the good built quality as samsung anymore. They used to have when under IBM. Not anymore.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
it looks gigantic! I guess one could calculate the thickness based on the 3.5 mm jack plug.
EDIT: it's 13.3 mm
Anyone that gets it, please see if you can pull the Netflix APK and share.
the build-quality seems to be quite good, but the overall design of the pad is pretty ugly
I sawt hat this morning, is it me or does something look a little off with the bevel? so yea - pass.
I won't be changing my 10.1 for one.
Just as a quick update to this thread, there is now a working Netflix APK released in the wild for the samsung galaxy tab 10.1. The link is in a thread on these forums, posted today.
This tablet is going to be an instant failure. Its ridiculously THICK at 13.3mm. Its even thicker than the xoom.

sorry cannot post clicky links yet.
Here is a link to the initial unboxing. Overall the device is nice. No the back is not removable and it is a fixed battery. The camera takes decent enough pictures from the rear camera, though I would not want to lug this around as a camera - Droid Charge will remain camera.
The whole 13.3 mm thickness and 0.16 lbs heavier than the Transformer thing eludes me with some other posters. TBH 1.49 to 1.65 lbs is not a gamebreaker in my opinion. And the thickness difference is negligble in my opinion. Where I do see a diffrence in the pad versus others ones on the shelf is the width of the bezel. The Lenovo's bezel is definitely a tad wider. For me this is a good thing as I have big hands, though other users might find this annoying.
The touchscreen is on par with other devices I have touched. Though this is the first one I have actually brought home. The accuracy as I type this is exceptional, with the only mistypes being my own fat fingers.
Start up of the pad is fast with a quick Lenovo banner then the nVidia logo and sexy nVidia girl telling me it's nVidia powered. Once up, the preinstalled aps run crisply and smoothly. Being that this my first tablet with Honeycomb on it I am trial and erroring what apps from the market work. It seems from what I have read it is hit or missip with Honeycomb rit niw in terms if apps.I did get the Netflix app installed though it is not the native app (Lenovo has stated this is not available just yet officially) Full mirroring to the HDMI port works without a hitch and Netflix movies are clear. I am actually impressed with the sound quality as most devices of this size have skimped in terms of sound. The speakers are loud enough to listen to in the car without headphones and the sound us crisp.
Something of note - there are no USB ports or SD card slots. That said there is a SIM card slot of unknown use at this time (unlockable for cellular and 3/4g capabilities???)
My first impression is that getting past the initial transitional from GB to HC will take me some time. The device itself has met or exceeded my expectations in every area I have used it in over the last 24 hours. And, I can see the pad becoming part of my everyday life.
I will post some more pictures of it when I get home.

Considering they can't even GIVE the HP TouchPad away, and Acer have struggled to make enough Iconia's to cover the demand, I'm kinda dubious about that chart's numbers.
I will believe people want the iPad, mainly due to advertising and people being morons.
I was about to post that yesterday. I don't think the chart is true since HP has not sold over 10% of its touchpads and I do not know anyone who even knows about the touchpad. If there was better advertising the Iconia might be farther up the chart.

+100000....
I question that graphs validity.
I find it very hard to believe that more people would choose the Playbook or flyer, over the Acer.
I agree with you guys. Both acer and asus have been struggling to keep up with their product demands. My gf had to wait a month to get her docking station for her transformer. And yet they put the asus and acer at the low end of the graph. Gee, I wonder who funded the study... Heck, even the moto xoom couldn't sell that well. Their vice president even said their sales figures have been "underwhelming".
I'll tell you this much. When I got my iconia, I had to drive out of my way to get it. I talked to managers from 3 stores. They got plenty of xoom. They couldn't supply enough iconias and transformers. And I wasn't the only one asking about them.
Edit.
This article is still bad news for the iconia and transformer, though. It shows that most mojos out there don't know anything except the word "ipad".
I also question this mainly because I really struggled to get my Acer in our country.
It only came in stock a couple of months ago. I had to get mine from Germany.
Well most people here in the US love Charlie Sheen, but I don't give a damn about it. So ok , most people want an iPad, but what they are buying is the important, and I see that Android is doing fine, even with all this fragmentation and all market issues (some have , other not). Of course iPad is right now the king, is a closed system, controlled by Apple, software, hardware, music, films, applications... But if Google repairs the damage done with the 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 android versions at the same time and the market fiasco, they gonna be the next king.
Right now at my home we have 3 tablets and 3 phones, none of the from Apple, but Android.
..but good news for android, which is all I care about. I calculate around 26%, not counting "other", which is good and will only climb.
If the poll on the right-hand side of this page (http://hcapps.blogspot.com/) is truly indicative, it seems the Iconia is DOMINATING the android tablet market!

Edit: actually that table itself is only based on 531 people.

It's amazing how biased that report is. It's probably as bad as how biased consumer reports has gotten.
Who came up with that poll????........ Apple
insane
The sample size that this poll is based from is a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction of a tiny group of a few people.
Would have purchased an ipad myself - but things like MicroSD, custom rom images, over clocked kernels, full size USB support, Adobe Flash support, and a truly hackable customized device kept me from considering the current apple tablets.
Sure, they move more units. That does not in any way mean they are "Better" units.
The simple fact is - i cannot be the only be the only person smart enough to compare features and check the specs before purchasing the product - but no one has ever and probably will never ask me to be part of any group of hardware owners that results in silly charts like this.

So how many more would you have sold if you didn't run out? I'm guessing another 5 more based on another BestBuy metric -- go online and checkout their tablets sorted by bestselling.
1. iPad2 16GB Black
2. iPad2 32GB Black
3. iPad2 16GB White
4. iPad2 64GB Black
5. Iconia 16 GB
6. iPad2 32GB White
7. iPad2 64GB Black 3G
8. iPad2 32GB Black 3G
9. Coby Tablet ($180 7" tablet)
10. Galaxy 16 GB
11. HP TouchPad
12. Galaxy 32 GB
I guess this does measure something different than that original survey. The first is asking as much about name recognition. When asked to name a tablet, the most well known one will get named the most. But when you go out there and actually see what $180 dollars (Coby), $300 (Iconia), and $500 (iPad) gets you, the Acer picture changes a bit.

Amazon's pre-orders are sold out, you have to wait for the next shipment.
This does look like a great tablet at an amazing price.
However I will wait for the tablet to have a 2gb ram instead of 1gb. Using a fully customized TF101 with LWP and other widgets keeps the ram at 600-700 and using a browser like overskreen does push it close to the limit.
Also, I will have to deal with the problem of selling my TF101 with dock if I do plan to get another tablet.
Does anyone know if the original dock will work on TF300 ?
I was under the impression that the TF300 is going to be the low end device of their new tablet lineup. Hopefully, it does better than the Prime at launch (as in no Wi-Fi issues, glitchy GPS, etc) . I'm more interested in the Pad Infinity, but only if Asus solves the software problems on the TF101 first. Otherwise, I can't say I'm too confident in their firmware with ICS.
I would also doubt highly that the original dock will work with any of these, but I suppose you never know -- they might be nice to us (yeah, right!).

Some people are experiencing random reboots and other stability issues after upgrading to ICS.
Im quite sure they said the new devices will NOT be compatible with previous docks, and will have their own docks.
But if it will be compatible with any previous dock - it will be the TF201's. TF101 is too old, and I do believe they have stopped production of the dock as well (at least, a lot of stores here in sweden has stopped selling them and wont receive any new shipment)

And unless you root right after getting the TF101, the ICS update will be force fed to you and then all these issues of rebooting, freezing and apps force closing will ensue.
I'd wait for 300, may be the Wifi/GPS issues they had with prime will be fixed and she will be root and overclock friendly tab .
I do like the back of it!!!

From the leaks to the media, the 300 looks to be a 201 clone with plastic case, slower soc but longer battery life. After seeing excellent performance of the fully functioning gps dongle on the prime, I have high expectations on the performance of the 300.
Hmm.. should Asus call this the Spartan 300, meager and mean?
Damn it. New phone comes first now(EVO 4G LTE).
I really dont have a problem waiting though. Very curious to see how win8 tablets pan out in the next 10 or so months.
After seeing the new intel ultrabook concept. Very interested.

That does look nice..
I am in the same boat..
New phone on the cards..thinking of the HTC one..
Then am giving the tranny to the parents for thier trip once they arrive from Australia up here to China..thus leaves me in a bind..
Can't go iPad, prime just isn't enough of a step upwards for me at this stage..the 300 looks interesting..but the 700 if it actually does as it is billed to would be enough to keep me happy for 5-12 months..
O what to do...

I am very tempted but I am trying to save as much money as possible. Carless at the moment so I need a new one.... but still very tempted. It is crazy to see all these new deals on tablets recently. We rarely see a new mobile device for under $300.

Cheap tablets like this pop up all the time. The only thing it has going for it is that its running ICS
Did anyone buy one of these? I am tempted for my 11 year old. She loves Netflix (we only have one tv set and we don't let the kids use it much) and I saw a review that said the app works. She is currently using the non-activated cricket zte score I picked up for $30 a few weeks ago.

This tablet will be a lot better than the ZTE Score as far as hardware goes. The ZTE Score is only ARMv6/ARM11 which means no flash and limits gaming performance. Some apps like Temple Run only work decently on ARMv7.
The Cortex A8 isn't the latest generation, A9 is out, but at least the A8 can handle ARMv7 instructions. This tablet should handle games a lot better than the ZTE Score.
I wonder if you could get something like this to pull apps from the Android Market. It's right in the price-range of what I'd like to spend on a tablet right now for when I go in for chemo and am stuck in a bed for a while.

I wish I could pick this up online for purchase somewhere. For 99 bucks and already pre-rooted you can't go wrong.
Does it have a camera?

Sounds like I'm going to head to the local store and try to find one of these guys. Would be fantastic for reading and especially for my daughter.
Cheers mate
Tried to stop by one local store before they closed tonight at 9pm, and they didn't have any available. They were nice enough to call some other local stores to see if they have them available. Looks like there's a BL about 45 minutes away, but I'm not sure I want to make the trip that far while I'm dealing with chemo treatment and having just had gallbladder removal surgery.
I'll keep people updated, it seems there are a few sites with some information on the devices, but I'm still waffling since it's only a 480x800 resolution.
Lack of camera and the resolution is what is killing it for me. I almost went up there to buy it but then I remembered how much of an impulse buyer I am. I waited a little while then decided not to get it.
How did everyone make out with these.
