Acer sleeve stand - Acer Iconia A500

So has anyone tried the acer sleeve from newegg? I tend prefer a regular sleeve to the folio style ones but there don't seem to be too many options with built in stands. my only concern with this one is that it looks like it only supports a fairly upright viewing angle.

I just ordered one of these on ebay from TPD Gear. It should come in a couple days and I'll post a review. This one looks promising, if its similar to the Senyx one I bought but with clips instead of straps.
Here's my quick and dirty review and some photos (see posts 9 and 10):

Actually looks like a good economical option. Do chime in when you get yours.
Does anyone else have one of these???
i was looking into this one as well. looking forward to the review
Mine should be here shortly:

Okay, I fess up. I got tired of the slippage issue with the official Acer case. I can literally with a few gentle shakes get my A500 free of the case now. Therefore I ordered the TPD case. It looks like it will be the least bulky of the choices.
But I still state my version of the dream case would be the union of thinness of the Acer to the lock tab tray of the TPD.

You'd better hurry. My tracking says tomorrow, Thursday, and I'm posting if no one beats me to it.
First set of photos.
So I just got the case tonight, so this is more or less a first impression of it.
First thing I noticed is that its bulkier than my Senyx folio case, but a little more compact. It's actually really close to the dimensions of the A500, so there's not a lot of edge margin along the perimeter of the case and the tablet itself, as there is on the other case. That said, if you look at my second set of photos on the next post, you'll see that with the tablet in the Senyx case, its really close the same thickness as the TPD case.
The material looks good, and has very little odor, which I imagine will go away like it did on my other case. The stand function is quite functional and very well designed, as it doesnt fold in on itself like other cases do, so structurally the case doesnt really bend too easily. The one gripe I can forsee is that the slots that hold the tablet when in stand mode may slip over time, but we'll see.
An elastic band binds the case together when its being transported, as you can see in the second set of photos. This works well enough, and keeps the profile very flat.
Now, on to the main reason I bought this -- the clips that hold the Tablet in. I really do not like the pouch-design that the other cases use because the tablet can slip fairly easily in it. The Senyx case uses straps along the corners and I've noticed that these straps have stretched already in the 2.5 weeks I've used it so it also does slip sometimes. These clips work wonderfully. They feel like they have some rubber material coated on them so it would help alleviate scratching to the tablet, but it was a bit difficult to put on at first and to take off. I think you are suppose to slide it in from the bottom.
The clips DO block the SD slot slightly!!!! It's just a tad too long, and it blocks the very end of the port making it, so far, not able to open while attached to the clips.
As far as weight goes, its a little bulkier as I mentioned because of an added layer which acts as the rear leg in kickstand mode, and this adds roughly 0.40 lbs when compared to the Senyx case. Both of these are heavier than the Acer OEM case.
--added one more thing-- I just noticed that in kickstand mode, there's speaker cutouts hidden under the kickstand in folio mode. Pretty awesome
OK -- sorry this was quick and dirty.
So far so good though!
second set of photos -- the last couple are the Senyx folio case. Also a nice pick.
Looks nice, but also looks like it adds a fair bit of bulk, thought not as much as the Targus model.
The Acer case isn't perfect, but is low impact on the foot print.
Your thoughts?

I just wrote a quick write-up on it in post 9.
I had the Acer case and I hated it. It's very slim, but I couldnt stand it as I felt it degraded the overall look and quality of my tablet. This case is definitely a lot bulkier then the Acer case and the Senyx case. I like the clips though -- The Senyx case with clips would be ideal for me, since I do not care for the kickstand function as much -- I have the Arkon stand already.
Im more interested if you took these pics and did this write-up while "breaking bread with the porcelin god".

lol. it was the brightest area i could find to take pics quickly near my room.
didnt even notice the toilet....haha. thanks for the w/u and pics.
this case its tops on my list so far....
Got my TPD case today. It has very good contruction quality. It looks great and in the scope of its design it works very well as intended.
Since the components are all synthetic materials, it has an odor to it when brand new. That was easily dealt with, though, by a healthy dose of fabric freshener.
I love the plastic holder tray that is sewn into the case. It holds the device in place with a snap (pun intended) of authority and allows a nice view of the shiny toy it cradles so well. As mentioned in previous comments, the top bracket tab overlaps the SD card slot door. However, I don't see that as a show stopper. Unless you are using multiple SD cards to manage media, you won't need to bother with it much. I feel that if needed, the tab could be modified without any real impact to it's retention ability.
Other than that matter, the holder tray allows full access to all other ports and switches with no troubles.
I am not enamored of the extra bulk the case adds. But practically every case of this type has that issue to one degree or another. The Iconia already has significant thickness and this case adds to that in full measure. I'll take a few days with the case to see if I can live with it.
The case also makes the Iconia less comfortable to hold in portrait, at least to me. I do use it in portrait quite a bit, almost as much as landscape, but I'm willing to admit my use scenario is different from others. After all, all these tablets are designed primarily for landscape, so there you go. In landscape, especially when using it in easel mode, it is terrific.
In summary, it may not be perfect, but it is a very good option if you are looking for an executive folio type case that is also a landscape easel stand.

So I tried the TPD for a few days. Its good, but the bulk and added weight was too much for me. I suspect the same for the Targus model. I'm back to the Acer case with some 3M Command double sided stickies to keep it in place.

Anybody think like me, that by the time we have all bought multiple cases to try them out, and then discard them because they have a fault or two, we could have just stumped up the shocking price of the pdair case and had done with it

lol ya. i was able to return the acer case at least. but i do have two cases now. luckily my co-worker might be getting one of these tablets so i might sell it to him for a reduced price.
the TPD case is a bit heavy, but im starting to like it alot. there are times when i take the tablet out of the case when im going to be holding it for long periods of time, but it works great on the table or on my lap.
just got in my case today.... It is a little bulky, but exactly what i was looking for

Are you serious? I'll just buy a solar charger, normal bag and a cartload of beer for that price.
I have a extra small sized Timbuk2 messenger bag that works great. I also use a Crumpler brand bag for my DSLR and they also make laptop-style messenger bags as well. For my work laptop, I have a Tumi, and I carry around my tablet with that if I take it to the office. All three companies make high quality products that last forever and are stylish.
This one looks pretty good. I may get it.

I got this one:

My tablet fits without removing it from its case and there are a couple of pockets for cables, etc.
Dont know if this would work but might be an option
amazon.com/Kensington-K62571US-Sling-Bag-iPad/dp/B003GSL6UQ/[/url]
I found quite a few that looked good but ended up buying a sleeve instead because I'm always bring my DSLR gear backpack with me and I can stow the tablet accessories in there. However, I would search for "netbook bags" and you'll get endless options to choose from.
I'm still always shocked that there are numerous bag and case options that cost half the price of the sophisticated device you're stowing in it.
I found a Mobil-IT "Ultimate Travel Essentials" Netbook Caddy, at Office Depot that works very well. The only problem is that it may be discontinued now...
I use SMT iPad Micro Bag that I bought for missus iPad but since she doesn't use it I take it for my A500. Fits just fine naked and even with Acer case on I can still zip up though it's bit tight. With long shoulder strap it's pefect to carry over my shoulder and have the zipped pocker as well as open pocket and big pouch on the other side for A4 papers...
OP did you find what you are looking for? I too use my photo bag to carry mine around. Vangard Up Rise, I Carry the tablet DSLR, flash and lenses.
I just ordered this timbuk2 bag from amazon. It looks pretty good and according to the company website will fit my Acer. It should arrive in a couple days, I'll try to post some pics and let you know how it works.

I have this case,

Fits perfectly, the inside opening is a little thick, made for a 1.5" netbook but I added a couple layers of foam and the G Tab fits like a glove. Just about the perfect case and it's on sale.
Here it is on Amazon also,

not really, most of the bags are very sporty for a lack of a better word with straps and clips and such. i was more looking for a simple bag with velcro or even no really locking flap that will fit the tablet vertically with a single tone bag possibly gray with a movable pad on the strap.

I got this one too. If you are looking to carry just the tablet with a keyboard, a compact mouse and a couple of cords this is a very good size. Thought, it won't take anything beyond that. The tablet can fit with a case.
I use that :

I grabbed the Targus iPad CityGear Messenger bag; the A500 is a bit too wide to fit into the intended interior sleeve, but the main compartment is just the right size for the tablet + a mini USB keyboard w/ trackpad, and I keep a 500gb USB hard drive + cables in the outer pockets

Just wondering if anybody else has gone for one of these. I grabbed one off of amazon well pre ordered one which has now shipped but because I am over in NZ may take a little while to get over here. Its this one here.

Was looking at that one. Of all the cases I've seen in that price range,I like that one the most.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I pre-ordered mine and got it Friday. It's a really nice, well made case. I don't know that I will ever use the tablet in portrait mode while its attached to it like they show, but the fact that the tablet is removable from the case make its nice. Seems like the zipper is a little tight when trying to close it, but there's a lot of room for error as to where you can place the tablet inside the main case. The tilt stand is top notch, I feel very comfortable leaving the case open on a table with the screen exposed, and the curve cut into the stand itself makes it easy to rest the case on your leg and use the tablet.
It is a very well made case. Very solid and high quality.
This looks promising. Just ordered a tpu case and would like this as another option.
Thinking of ordering the magenta color one made like the Acer case when its available.I have too cases for my notebook and are great

in canada and amazon wont ship here, but i found one here that will http://www.overstock.com/Electronic...0-Executive-Leather-Case/6070886/product.html but before i pull the trigger ive got a couple questions, does the tablet have a closure once its into the internal / removable compartment? IE button, velcro or magnet? or will it just fall out if held upside down wrong? And does the internal compartment have any room in it for the tablet to move inside, even just a little? the reason i ask, is i would like to use a TPU plastic shell around the tablet as an additional layer of protection. And i hope there is enough room for it all to fit, it adds roughly 1 to 2mm of thickness for a total of 3 to 4mm of length if both edges are taken into account. You guys think it would fit?

It's really hard to say. I don't think the TPU case would fit. The inside case does not have much wiggle room. (Check the other two images)

Instant gratification won out and I ended up pulling the trigger. I will report back on how the tpu fits inside this once the roocase arrives.
And any modifications required to make it happen, if any. At the risk of sounding like an idiot, if it don't fit I'm gonna make it fit.
rooCASE
While I ended up going for a different style of leather case, it looks like RooCase is making the better ones for the a500.
Very good materials and design, as I've stated elsewhere.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of their cases.

[Q] What do you look for in a case?

I'm going to be making a couple different cases for the Iconia now that I have one and wondered what everyone here would like to see in a leather case. I would really appreciate any and all feedback!
1. hard case vs soft case: which is better, or would you use both for different purposes?
2. round or square corners: square corners on a case may get worn, but would maybe protect the tab itself better?
3. colors: black, brown, white...red? What'r the favorites?
4. Sleeve or "book" style?
5. If a "book" type design...Screen: protected, or open?
Once I figure out a couple good designs I'll put one of each together and post them. If there's any interest I could make them and ship anywhere Thanks again!
that is difficult to answer tehehe
I like to see my iconia as a laptop replacement and something i could carry around everywhere in my hand. 2) some case that will not add thickness 3)quality
as much as i dont favor the acer iconia (ipad clone) oem case, it is a perfect case for protection and a desktop stand.
but it's too thick
For my use, I want something as light and as slim as possible -- adding minimal bulk or weight to the tablet.
To me, the iPad2 smart covers plus the x gear rear cover are a near perfect combination for my needs.
The rear part is something like this, but from a different company:
http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Compani...f=sr_1_70?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1311608057&sr=1-70
For my original iPad, I had a one piece cover that was very similar -- a thin, form fitting shell around the back (clipped on corners, which also protected them) with a thin, hard, segmented front cover. Not as durable or solid as my current iPad2 setup, but very serviceable overall.
Something like this (this might have actually been it, in black, but it's been months since I sold my original iPad with its cover):
http://www.amazon.com/Macally-BOOKS...sr_1_146?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1311608211&sr=1-146
Since I carry my tablet(s) in a small shoulder bag, I want something that will protect the screen from scratches, or even the odd bump, but that introduces minimal "drag" on pulling it out.
I favor the "prop" characteristic (low angle) more than the "stand" (high angle), as it helps with positioning for typing.
Color, almost always black with minimal ornamentation/design.
I have the Bluerex case. I also have the portfolio Roocase. They are both leather. I like that. I like how they add protection. Yes I like thin, but protection more. The Roocase covers the tablet more so therefore protects it, but its a little too thick. The Bluerex is a perfect thickness. And it has rounded corners that hug every corner of the tablet. When you look at the case from an angle, it matches the contour perfectly. Only things I would like to see is a better means of strapping the tablet closed, and a little more protection on the corners (look at pics in my other post). If those changes are made then in my opinion, you would have a perfect case.

Question about HD2 cases..is there a preferred one?

I get like 10,000,000 hits at amazon (well maybe not quite that many) and would like to buy a nice looking case for the HD2 that is nicer than the rubbery default case it came with.
I looked at the HD2 accessory forum but its dead over there. Can someone throw out a couple quick suggestions?
I'd prefer a thin flip case like on the S3 but the only ones I see seem to flip from the top; not from the side.
I want something slim that doesn't look like a cheap $3 case from overseas..after putting JB on my HD2 it looks so nice I want to compliment it with a decent looking case.
Thanks for any suggesions

Take a look at Noreve cases. Don't know if they make a flip case but they do make a quality product (albeit, not cheap)
