Have you seen forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy:
"How to get rsdlite to recognise a phone that won't boot
You flashed, something happened, now screen is black, phone doesn't react, u are in a boot loop, rsdlite cant recognize the phone. you're right here.
To get RSDLIte to recognize your phone you have to enter boot loader mode. this means press VOL-UP + POWER If nothing helps, try pushing VOL UP before!' you put the battery in (RSDLIte should be running and awaiting a new connection at that time) If you are using Windows 7, try seting RSDLite to "compatibility mode: Windows XP SP3".
Fixing "Battery Low - Cannot program" on bootloader aka McGyver Hack
U ran out of battery during flashing or similar. In flash progress (boot loader mode) the phone isnt able to load the battery, u got stucked because u ran out of it. Indicators:
- just see white led,
- screen black,
- phone doesnt boot?
- never ever see a motorola logo
may try this:[1] some pics how this should look like: [2]"

RSD lite says its unable to retrieve initialization values from INI files (0x7029)
it read bootloader its 9.10 but dont want to start process
i still dont know what to do... i was internetless this week, tryed everything
i charched batery on variation of McGyver Hack, i used old nokia charger cut cable and used + for + and - for - its worked and i dont need to bye new cable xD

and i run rsd in compatibility mode like xp sp2 and xp sp3
every time have same problem

Hey , Why don't you try another PC with Win XP?

i try like different user but on same computer... maybe i can try from some live linux? i dont have place on hd to instal linux but if i try from live linux maybe it will work...
i hope it is not very difficult like this

maybe you make the bootloader up when you flashed your defy. wait for BL = 6 ROM .

Try using RSD 5.3.1 just in case you are using 4.9, I sometimes had strange issues with 4.9. Also try using sbf flash for linux. It's very easy to use and works like a charm, I've never had a single issue with sbf_flash in linux.
download sbf_flash for linux here http://dl.opticaldelusion.org/sbf_flash?attredirects=0
Instructions:
1. I always like to rename the sbf to something easier to type such as 123.sbf or froyo.sbf or whatever you like. This is optional but makes it much easier than typing the true file name of the sbf
2. place sbf_flash AND whatever sbf you are trying to flash into your home directory
3. connect your phone via usb and in bootloader mode
4. open terminal (you should already be in your home directory) and type these two commands:
sudo chmod +x sbf_flash
sudo ./sbf_flash filename.sbf
(of course you would obviously replace filename.sbf with whatever you renamed the sbf)

defy is so hard to be bricked!!

Milestone 2 Boot Loop

I've stumbled into a really big problem with my Motorola Milestone 2. Basically, it's stuck in a boot loop, it comes up with the Motorola M, then the purple animation behind it, then it vibrates and starts the animation again. It just loops this. I've looked on a number of other threads but none have helped yet.
I've tried:
Power + X and doing a factory reset (Didn't Work)
Power + X and wiping cache (Didn't Work)
RSD Lite + http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2 but the start button remains greyed out even when the phone's in bootloader mode.
Thanks in Advance,
Tristan

You might need to try flashing the SBF in linux. You don't have to install it on your computer you can just run a live cd and try it from a live session. or run it under windows and try it like that. (when you put in the live cd it will ask you if you want to try it).
You can follow my tutorial for the D2 just remember to replace the SBF in that tut to your SBF and the command will change aswell.
Here's the Tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088
You don't have to use the liveCD I customized you can use any ubuntu or linux live cd. you just have to have the sbf_flash file in the home directory and the phone specific SBF in the same location.
Ok, thanks. I'll download the Ubuntu LiveCD later and try it
When I run sudo ./sbf_flash xxx.sbf I get :
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Why is this? Could it be because I'm running the LiveCD on USB?
Right, I just installed Ubuntu onto my system, alongside Windows 7. However when I follow the instructions on the thread you linked to I get a Segmentation Fault at "sudo ./sbf_flash xxxx.sbf" bit. It's a slightly different error to when I was running the LiveCD. What can I do to fix this?
There's something wrong with the Livecd because everyone who has tried it lately has been getting that I'm going to be making another upgraded one soon. Did you install my livecd to your computer or an official ubuntu livecd? If it was mine I would try a different one and see if that works. If not then the sbf_flash file is messed up which doesn't make sense because I've used that exact file on my ubuntu setup and have sucessfully flashed my phone.
I'm sorry this is a lot more of a headache then I had originally implied. Linux is usually a lot easier than windows but there is something I am overlooking that's causing the segfault.

I used the Official Ubuntu LiveCD and the sbf_flash file you posted. I'm looking into getting a replacement because I think it is unfixable now because I tried another method of flashing, and now I get a white screen which goes to black instead of the Motorola Logo, however the bootloader still loads but the android recovery (Power + X) thing doesnt.

After you flash you need to wipe data and cache in the stock recovery. That will fix a bootloop.

If I would like to use sbf_fllash, which version of Ubuntu should I have? 64bit or 32bit?

It shouldn't matter because a 32-bit sbf_flash file should work on 64-bit or 32-bit.

[Q] Bricked Defy and not recognized by my USB

Guys,
First of all, hello to all! So, I followed a tutorial to install Froyo on my Defy. Now I'm stuck with my phone trying to boot as soon as i put the battery on, but it never makes it past the "M". I can get into recovery. I wiped data, cache and tried to install the "update.zip" but it aborts saying "signature verification failed." I have the boot file (that was the next step) to install using RSDlite 4.9 but the phone is not even recognized any of my USB ports. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advanced.
press volumn up buton and power button on boot , once you saw the backlit is on , release the button , you will see the rsd litle showing your usb .
dont worry . i think it is your first time to use RSD only
yea i been through that ( doesnt work on vista )
you need to install rsd lite and 2.51 UK Firmware ( no usa )
google it and you will find it or on this forum
install usb driver from motorola webiste
install rsd lite
put uk firmware in ... C drive/ program files / motorola / rsd lite
install driver
If your phone is stuck on " M " then pull battery out
turn on and quicky press power + vol up ( i think ) before M even appear
wait till it say your boot loader and your battery
plug phone in
start rsd lite
on ... look up your uk firmware that you you recently put in rsd lite folder
then you should see your phone connected on the 1 slot
then hit start or something and wait it out .
Thanks guys! But I've been messing around with this thing for so long, I drained the battery. I had to run it up to the local phone store to get it charged. I'll pick it up in a couple of hours and give your advice a try.
Hey guys! it worked! I'm up and running. Now, anyone has a link to bypass this Welcome to Motoblur screen. Is there a Custom Froyo or Gingerbread Rom out there without Motoblur?
Alright... I'm up and running, but no camera!!! Heck, it was a learning experience. I guess I'll go back to 2.1 now. LOL
So the Chinese ROM was rooted. I installed Clockworkmod and restored from the backup i had made of the original 2.1 OS. I'm back to a rebooting phone not making it past the "M" I went back to RSDlite and realized the boot file said 2.2 only. Can anyone assist me finding the right one to go back to original. I haven't been able to find a thread about reverting back to original.
The more I read, the smarter I get seems like the only thing I'm missing here is the SBF file for my original T-Mobile OS. I'm looking at the motorola website, but I can't find it. Can anyone point me to it? Thanks all! Oh yeah, this is the first android phone i mess with so my apologies.
There is no us sbf file. You have to flash a uk version and restore 3g with the posted fix. You can find the links to available sbf files on this forum. They are not available thru moto's site.

Just to make sure I got it right. After using clockworkmod to restore to my factory backup, I need to use the UK sbf to be able to boot to it. Correct?
I found the sbf for Central Europe with no Motoblur. Does anyone know of any issues with it?
well the only way to fix this if you previously backed up your rom/files with recovery ( good thing i did this ). If not then you have to live with what you got.
I backed up my original firmware using clockworkmod. I flashed to the Chinese 2.2 but my camera didn't work. Since the camera is important to me, the Chinese Froyo was a deal breaker. I installed clockworkmod again and "recovered" from my original backup but now my defy won't boot. Did I miss a step?
Your data from the backup may cause issues when rolling backwards. Install an eclair sbf, then restore. That worked for me.
On another note there is a fix for the camera. Check the forums.

Just try and install the Motorola Drivers in your desktop and open RSDLite and press 'show devices' button. It will surely show the details of your phone.
Then point RSDLite to the stock SBF and flash away.

If you hear the USB plugged in sound in your Pc, it's a messed up driver installation. If you don't hear the sound, it can be a bad cable, or a faulty microusb port (assuming that your pc usb works fine). Try once in a different pc and with a different microusb cable.

I do not hear any sound from desktop/laptop.
I think I stuck in boot loop. When I try to power on the phone, it just shows CM7 boot logo for few seconds then restarts again shows the boot logo... this happens continually. When I try to enter into recovery, it does not go to CWM recovery instead it goes to stock recovery. I am still able to enter into boot loader. In boot loader, it says battery OK connect USB to program. When I connect USB, it is recognized by phone and says transfer mode: USB. But my PC does not shows up the phone.
I tried re-installing drivers and RSDlite many times but no luck. But I have nandroid backup of CM7. Is there any possibilities to enter into CWM recovery?
Any help is appreciated.
Edit:
I tried even different USB cables and PCs also.

[Q] MM2 and big problem - white screen on starting

Hi,
i have Motorola Milestone2/Droid2, buyed in UK, now using in poland..
Yesterday i root the phone by z4root and change my rom to Liberty rom from this forum. I make a mistake - i installed rom for 320/340 phones which i dont have.
now i tried to res my phone using method by DOSBF in linux but this dont work'd - after 10-15second when i started terminal turn's of himself and dont work.
same in windows on RSD lite (versions from 4.6.x to 4.9), he dont see file proporties ( i downloaded many sbf files and he dont see it) i read all threads and use all possible options. now after pressing power button i see white screen for 10 second and phone makes he off.
Anyone have some ideas? i do donate 30$ if someone help me to make my droid 2 back to work!

I don't have my Milestone 2 yet, but from reading other threads, you may be able to boot into recovery mode and take it from there...see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10967806&postcount=4

i try to find battery loader or other droid2 and i load battery. maybe ubuntu and droid.sh command will work'd (earlier phone switchin off when i do in terminal DOsbf method - maybe then battery have weak power)
sorry for my bad english ...
Hey,
Here is what you need to do:
1. Download RSD Lite 5+ (not 4.x)
2. Download the correct Motorola SBF file I am not able to post any links -- New user here ;-)
Since your A953 is from UK, like mine -- I guess it will be: MILS2_U6_2.2.16_SIGNED_UCAMILESTONE2B1B80E100A.0R_UCXMILE20RTGB_P029_A007_HWp2a_Service1FF.sbf
3. Turn off your Phone
4. Install, Motorola Milestone Drivers for your PC
5. Hold Volume Down+Camera button and turn on your phone -- You should get some white text saying Bootloader-v70.12 , plugin your USB, etc...
6. Plugin your USB, wait for 10-20 seconds and start RSD Lite (as administrator)
7. Flash your phone
You are welcome to PM me if you don't have any of the files..
Good luck !

[Q] Bricked Milestone2? Wont Charge/Stuck at M logo

So a couple days ago I installed MIUI to my phone. Everything went great, it booted successfully and worked for 2 days or so, until i accidentally let the battery die (not sure if this is related to the problem or not). Since this day, it wont charge or turn on while connected to the wall. When it is connected to the wall, it starts the screen and show a big battery with a question mark inside. I tried a friends battery and it gets stuck at the M logo. The only thing i can access now is the stock recovery screen. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks

1.Download RSD Lite
2.Download the stock .sbf file for your device
3.Use your friends battery and boot into bootloader by holding Power+Volume Down+Camera button
4.Open RSD Lite, choose the .sbf file you downloaded, connect your phone to pc with usb cable and flash it.
If your pc doesn't reckognize your phone, you'll have to download and install the latest motorola milestone 2 usb drivers.
Ok. So i tried to apply the sbf file, but as soon as the process starts, RSDLite says under the status area "Phone[0000]:Creating Image File." and it wont get thru this. Any ideas?
Maybe try sbf_flash on linux?
Will the sbf_flash work the same on the mac? Or should they work differently on mac and linux? I tried it earlier today and i got stuck at some part i cant remember...I'll recharge the battery with a universal charger that i found (cause it's saying its too low to program) and try it again tomorrow, so i just wanna be sure that i can do it on the mac...
Thanks
It should work same way. OS X version is just port from the linux version.
You have to run RSDlite as an administrator. Right click on RSD.exe or RSDlite.exe not shure what's the exe file named and Run as administrator.
br Zola
having the same problem
after flashed MIUI/CM7
the battery died then the phone cant boot to desktop
tried RSD Lite, flash failed lol
Tried to run RSD as administrator. Still stuck at the same point.
Tried sbf_flash, stuck at 'waiting for phone:'.
I'll try to download the sbf file again, just in case it is corrupted.
Any other ideas?
PS.: I'm running rsd on VMWare, could this be the problem??
Dunno how exactly works USB bridge in VMWare, but rsd on pure (not virtualised) system is worth a try. Also - are you sure, your battery is charged? I know, that if your phone can't boot, the battery will not charge via USB - you should use universal charger or somebody here recommended (and successfully repaired MS2 this way) put contacts directly on the battery to charge it little (just for RSD flash).
I charged it on a charger that you put the battery directly into the contacts. I'm sure that it is charged cause 1) the led display on the charger says so and 2) when i get to bootloader mode to apply sbf, it says 'Battery OK / OK to program' , and before i charged it, it would say: "battery too low, cant program", or something like that.
I'll try to get a windows pc and try to apply the sbf
Thank you guys.
I was trying to flash it with a sbf that was on a pendrive. All i did was transfer the file to the HD and flashed it via RSDLite, using VMWare.
Now my phone is working again.
Thank you very much to everyone that helped me

bricked defy?

sorry for the title, this is defy plus (+)
please help me!! i am extremely nervous since buying this phone took a lot of saving.
i was trying to install CM 9, the instructions were a bit confusing specificly this line:
Install guide (courtesy of nogoodusername):
A How to on flashing ICS(Defy Plus Builds)
1:Head over to Stable Recovery from boot menu
2:Wipe Data (Nandroid Backup Before Doing this [optional])
3:Install Zip from SD
4:Select ur ICS(DefyPlus) zip
5:FLash
6:Flash CM9 Kernel [Note: Defy Plus users DO NOT FLASH KERNEL ZIP!]
Click to collapse
i just assumed he missed a few letters when saying "DO NOT FLASH KERNEL ZIP"
so i flashed CM9 kernel. then i got this error: in a black screen
with a few other things Like "battery ok" and stuff
"Err:A5,70,00,00,23"
so i downloaded an SBF from this list http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-161_HE_SIGN_UCADEFYEMARAB1B80AA004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRPRNIL_P010_A021_M001_Service1FF.sbf.gz
and flashed with RSD lite using these instructions
STEP 1 Download usb drivers here below
Motorola Drivers Here
STEP 2 Download the debranded Firmware here (To debrand to generic UK I used the one marked UK - choose the one for your country)
Choose Firmware Here
STEP 3 Download RSDLite - I used v4.9, I found earlier versions would not work. Get it here.
RSDLite 4.9 Here
STEP 4 Install the USB Drivers and the RSDLite program and reboot PC
STEP 5 Extract the firmware file you downloaded a while ago. Then copy the .sbf firmware file to c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite folder (installation directory for RDSLite). this should come out as JRDNEM_U3_2.21.0_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA028.0R_ USAJORDANRTGB_P026_A007_HWp3_S
rvice1FF.sbf for the UK one.
STEP 6 Start the RSDLite program now where it says filename press the select button and find the .sbf firmware file in c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite (it should default to this folder) and select the (sbf) file some details will appear on the right hand side.
STEP 7 We now need to boot the phone into the bootloader (as above make sure the phone is disconnected from USB – not sure if matters tho!). Hold the volume up and then power the phone on, after about 5 seconds release the buttons and the bootloader should display - it will show the version and a battery check. Now plug in the USB cable and it should install the drivers . Once the driver installation has finished you should see the phone appear at the bottom of the RSDLite program window under `port 1` - Once this is there you are ready to flash the firmware. NB: I had issues getting it to show a number of times. Uninstalling RSDLite/Drivers, rebooting PC, and then reinstalling these resolved this issue. (did not do thise because i could not get past the screen i was talking about)
STEP 8 Press the start button on the RSDLite and just relax while your device gets flashed, debranded etc. you will see a progress status on the right hand side wait till it reaches 100% but please do not disconect it will reboot the phone automaticly and restart the phone. And just wait untill android comes up and fully running untill you disconnect it should read (PLEASE START PHONE MANUALY) on RSDLite when this shows it is safe to unplug.
Click to collapse
and in step 8(i waited till it says "pass") i was looking at my phone, it had a white led, looked at it for a few seconds and tried to hold the power button to turn it on or something. then it disconnected from the RSD lite.
then i disconnected from usb and tried to turn it on. but nothing.
please help. i really need this phone.
bump
bump.
please, i really need your help! i'm sorry if i did "light" investigation in search of an answer, i did a mistake twice following guides.
and i want something more specific for me. (i have BL7)
was an idiot and tried to flash a lower level BL,
flashed BL7 and it's all good now.
