Very cool! Thanks for sharing.

A little too costly to be practical. You can get a Coby 7" tablet from Best Buy with video out and Gingerbread for $129.

I read that last night and was all for it, until I saw the $134 price tag.

I wish AllShare or DLNA allowed for simply mirroring the screen from the phone to a compatible device.

But, you would have to get some sort of controller to use it wireless like this is... So another 20 to 30 bucks for a sixaxis if you don't have one. Just sayin...

Pity. I thought it was too good to be true. Hoped to have Google Maps show up on the LCD of my car... no cigar

You might be able to, to my understanding it has a dongle that connects to the display through HDMI, and then you run an app on your phone that HDMI mirrors it to the dongle.

Any Android device I have, no wires to HDTV. I'll pay $134 once for that.

If you LCD uses HDMI, then it will work fine.

Agreed. $134 for universal support of any android device isn't bad at all. Add a bluetooth controller with a bunch of emulators and roms and you got yourself a full fledged portable legacy gaming console regardless of what device you have.

Not sure as I've never tried it myself, but I think the 'oid emulators by Yongzh allows two players. In the settings there's an option for a second pad, but I'm guessing one person has to use the phone as a controller. Can play over Netplay though, but obviously that requires two separate devices.

Yeh. He has a N64 emu that I believe is two lpayer that costs $4 bucks. You can get it using the SlideMe market app. But I have Snes and dont care about Genesis or Nes.
What I want is MAME/CPS2/Neo-Geo that has two player option.

Id rather petition the hell out of samsung then pay $130 for something that should've came with the phone. and IF its a hardware thing, maybe you could replace our jack with i9000's. But $130? No way.

There is another thread about this I found. Search for it. Anyway, it seems that the issue is Touchwiz 2.5. SO...we have to wait until Froyo comes out with TW3.0 and THEN see if the TV out is available. All of the other SGS phones that have it are TW 3.0.
But I'm with you man.

This is partially true, but not totally true.
When people talk about TV out, it's helpful if they define how they wish to get TV out.
All four US Galaxy S series phones support DLNA, which is why Samsung claims TV out features for their phones. But that's now what most folks would consider TV out...
Only the GSM phones have TV out via the 3.5mm output.
So to say that this is a TW 3.0 issue, would be inaccurate. The Fascinate has TW3.0 and does not support TV out via the 3.5mm port. I read a post somewhere that described the CDMA chip not being able to work with the 3.5mm out port, but I haven't been able to find it. I thought it was BS at the time so I ignored it, but now that the Fascinate is out and the 3.5mm port does not support TV out, I'm trying desperately to find it to double check the specs.
That leaves TV out via the microUSB port. Samsung's website was offering (they still might be) an HDMI cable that worked via the microUSB port and specifically listed the Galaxy S series (including the Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant and Epic by name) however, nobody has been able to get it to work.
And thuse we're left with the speculation that TV out via the MicroUSB might be a Froyo addition, but not necessarily something that might be part of TW3.0 independently.
I found the post. Here you go:

Hi, I'm a Sprint employee and Epic owner. Having worked with the Samsung developers a little I can tell you with assurance that the TV Out option was not "disabled" by Sprint's choice. It's a h/w limitation. When you first boot the phone you get an auto update which appears to disable the TV Out option, but I think that's a mandatory because the shipping ROM is universal to domestic carriers from Samsung. The TV Out limitation is due to the CDMA SOC (system on chip), which will be true for the Verizon model coming soon. The Galaxy S devices based on the GSM SOC do have the TV Out option.
DLNA is the only option for displaying multimedia on a remote display, but keep in mind you are limited to self-created content. You can't broadcast YouTube or SprintTV across DLNA as the DRM encryption is not supported on either the Epic or any remote device.
We're glad you're a Sprint customer and hope you remain happy with your Epic!

Because you cannot share your self-recorded Movies through every DLNA device. PS3 and the Xbox both do not support our 3gp HD movie format.
I would like to visit my mother's house and be able to plug into her TV and show her the recordings of her granddaughters and other self-recorded video but I will be unable to do so without expensive extra hardware.
Well, don't shoot the messenger - I simply pay attention.
And second, RCA jacks are so 1990's I don't really care if they don't support them. This is a top of the line phone, so I'm glad if they sacrificed somewhere that they sacrificed 1990s technology.
That being said, don't give me HDMI out with the Froyo update and, well I'll have a CDMI issue. Good thing I'm on Sprint with 4G and not Verizon where I'd be really screwed. No 4G, no TV out, nothing to justify my costs, really...

Given that last post, I'm almost tempted to gamble with $40. If anyone else has seen this done, just 1 more person to verify and I'm in. Well, I agree that people shouldn't be upset if it ISN'T there. However, if people are mearly asking for alternatives/workarounds, or possibly finding unadvertised features (ie 3.5 jack on gsm models) I believe that's exactly what this forum is for. However I also believe people should not be starting a ton of threads. Search for those that exist, and continue that thread (or make this one 'the thread')

That's why I don't use iTunes. $10+ for a movie you can only use on certain devices, vs $2 or so for the used DVD from Amazon or wherever... The price is just a minor issue, but the fact that they control how you can use your purchase is ridiculous IMHO.

Personally speaking, the current Xoom functions as a laptop replacement and more but it all depends on what you expect to do with it. You've heard from at least one person who disagrees with me, but many more would agree. It's an amazing piece of hardware and will only become more functional as more apps and customizations are created for it.
But do as you like.

not yet, see what the Xoom2 or Xformer 2 has to offer. The browser still is garbage and it will annoy you if you want to surf with browser. the HDMI sound is in mono which is also terrible if you want to hook it up to your flat screen. I love mine to death but will be getting rid of it once either a new one with better browser and audio comes out or another table is comparable..
I hope ICS resolves some of the annoyances.

So I cannot get the xbox360 wired controller to work...if I hit the right trigger it just goes into a random spin until I unplug it and plug it back in...and when i get into the car I cannot accelerate.

[Humour][Future] Why my SGS3 doesn't make my coffee?

Or what would you like to be able to control with your SGS3?(don't say your wife he he he)

That is one nice thread!
You are absolutely right about the promises made about bluetooth. However, even although it's 18yo now, how far ago has it become really useable?
Bluetooth 1.0 was a waste of time: limited range and extremely slow transfer rates. Even although we're starting to see BT 4.0 devices, BT 2.1 is the actual widespread standard. That is the standard my car has.
In the car, I can interact with my phone to make phone calls, and all the neat stuff S-Voice allows for.
In my SE W810 there is a built-in app that allows me to use the phone's bluetooth (2.1) to remotely control a PC without the need for any extra software in the PC. That is: the phone works as a bluetooth HID.
That is it, and I only prove your point: BT has failed to keep its promise.
HOWEVER...
... now that Arduino (and other AVRs and MCUs) are becoming so popular and accessible, we are seeing more and more amateur and domestic automation solutions using bluetooth to control anything using a phone. I am one of these Arduino enthusiasts that has lots of ideas (but very little time to implement them) on home automation using Bluetooth or ethernet. Since I am also an android developer, several of my ideas involve marrying the 2 of them through BT: arduino + android controlling home appliances.
My wife promised to buy me a S3 if I gave her a back rub everyday for a week. So see, S3s can already be used by a human to control another human.

Well Smart home exist since a long time but they are not Android/bluetooth. You need to buy the whole package and build your house with the wires. Bluetooth is different. You can just buy different appliance from different companies and control them with your Android phone.(Well, in theory) Anyway, I guess we are not there yet. I just hope we won't have to wait another 20 years.

That would be awesome. I heard BT v4 is a huge improvement over previous versions and is much easier to implement in home appliance.

Is this really necessary?? Why would you want to control things with your phone anyways? Stop being lazy and do it yourself....and p.s you can control your Xbox providing you have one....still a pointless thread though.

What's not necessary is your dickhead attitude bro. What's wrong with asking technical questions. Being lazy? Are you freakin' kidding me? You know this is nerds forum right?

I've thought about this too, with things like the ardruino and the raspberry pi out there, you can pretty much do anything you want. It would obviously take some research if you don't have the knowledge yourself. I really want to be able to control my AV amp from my phone, constantly misplacing the remote but I never missplace my phone.
I'd certainly be interested in the lamp project too, will you be posting a tutorial when you complete the project?
