The A3 zip is bunk, i've downloaded it 3 times (says 89 megs on the site), but when I download it turns to 94 megs and won't flash, says "can't open, (bad) zip".
Seems like the zip file on the site is broken.

Worked fine when I downloaded it earlier today. That is the one I uploaded right above you. I would be willing to bet the servers are getting murdered.

Wifi keeps crashing with the update.

Fine here, 89.8MB.
MD5 hash: 3b7d774ae2833722c9883e77a0e86024

according to the previous link here are the changes
The fixes in ALPHA3
* Last prominent form of "sleep of death" fixed
* Webkit backing store(smoother scrolling)
* Bluetooth DPad/arrows do not rotate with screen
* Battery stats now available to Android
* Serial# now populated
* Shorter hostname as a result of serial#
* General wifi fixes
* Preliminary Touchpad 4G support(no radio)
* Possible fix for A2DP and wifi interference
* Possible fix for SD card not mounting
* Camera FPS improved but still nearly nonfunctional
i really hope the wifi issue is some what resolved. testing it now and setting my router back to normal. disabled/re-enable wifi, changed AP from backup to primary, and back. so far so good. but still in early testing.

Don't wipe batt stats unless your device was acting strange and dying quickly. You should only do it when it is fully dead and then recharged fully again.

Thanks for the tip. Never had any probs in the past after flashing custom roms. I agree it's useless wiping batt stats every other day.

What's the general consensus for the new release? I'm still on the original alpha because the wifi works perfectly and I don't won't to risk screwing it up. I do have some SODs but it's not worth losing the wifi trying to fix it.

For me the new alpha 3 is great, I never have had any wifi issues, so I guess I am lucky there(some have). Alpha3 is also much smoother feeling as well. Browser is 100% better as well. With battery stats, the best way to callibrate is to fully charge, then let it get down to about 15%, fully charge again, then wipe battery stats.

I m having wifi issues if i disable wifi after getting connected once i have to reboot or wifi wont connect. I think there's a fix at rootwiz. something about wiping wifi data or something will try it when i have time

I had WPA security on my router and I couldn't keep a wifi connection, so I changed the security to WEP (yes, I know, but I don't have close neighbors) and it has only dropped wifi once in about a month.
No SOD issues for me, so I'm hesitant to try this, but I can't consciously not flash it now that it is available.

Strange "Froyo" Quirks... Already!

Installed the "official" update that was hosted on Google's servers, which worked like a charm... but...
The camera won't boot up? The phone doesn't seem to be running any faster thus far, even after moving all possible applications to the SD card. Also, the gallery shows no images.
When I hold down the camera button, or select the camera application, the phone vibrates once (to tell you the camera's booting up), the screen turns black, vibrates three times quickly, and flashes the force close screen instantaneously and returns to the home screen.
Hmmm....
I almost forgot to add: I still have the Touchwiz default issue, that is, the OS prompting me to set a default every so often when I hit the home button. I think I might have to wipe the phone.
I had similar problems so I wiped and did a clean install with Odin and now it works great!

weatherbug elite widget
i like the weatherbug elite app and widget, and for some reason the widget will not appear at all, since i updated.
I am in the process of backing up my stuff to do a factory reset to see if that solves the problem. I was waiting until this update was released before rooting. Is there an OCLF for this update?
i would suggest odining back to DI18 then odining http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209 see if this fixes your problems, i have 0 bugs with DK28.
After the factory reset, everything is working okay. I noticed that some of the prompts have strange translations, particularly when accessing the Firmware Updater under the Camera's setting menu: "It will occur additional fee. Will you continue?" The functionality is debatable at this point considering it runs into an error upon updating. Hm.
I will try Odin some other time when I have a few hours to brush up on flashing. I am not very familiar with hacking mobile phones in general, so I want to be better acquainted with the process before I dive into it. But a lag fix and bloatware delete are certainly in this phone's future!
Browser is really buggy for me. It takes up 70MB of RAM on start up and has the terrible checker boards effect.
GPS works perfectly for me on DK17 and 28.
However, it may be that I restored my data partition from a backup I made from DK17. I'll try running a factory reset and we'll see what happens.
I've noticed that when using on screen keyboard for a quick seach online, the on screen keyboard will not go away when pressing the back button sometimes. Anyone else?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I've still had some issues with the back button being unresponsive, perhaps to a lesser extent since Froyo, but I have gotten so used to it I can hardly acknowledge the problem based on recollection of testing the phone.
However, I noticed the Quadrant scores are very disappointing in both my own test and in user comments. I can't wait to root and lagfix this thing.
In addition, the physical keyboard still drops letters at random. It seems to have gotten worse since the update.

I've got the same error with MediaHub. Looking for a Froyo apk now.
GPS is working fine for me - I had a 100% stock 2.1 that I did update.zip to Froyo. I hadn't even installed any apps or even loaded up my Google account. Literally bought the phone, waited for provision, then updated to Froyo.
What version of Media Hub are you running? Mine is working fine.

I experienced with this ROM a strange issue: randomly with the phone in stand-by pressing the power button the phone is unable to switch on the screen and the only way to re-switch on the screen is a long press of power button in such a way that it is able to shutdown and reboot.
Has someone else experienced the same issue? Suggistions to fix it?

There are thousands of people running my ROM everday and don't have any issue like that.
The OP is indeed right - clearing caches might work.
You guys may have to wipe - don't worry, a new ROM which will do that 110% automatically is coming soon.

Installed R4 yesterday (going from another custom ROM via resurrection and then the latest greatest with wiping) and already experienced some reboots. Last one was trying to copy a directory from a sdram to external SD. Next try was OK.
I am going to wipe the caches - I'll report if this does not fix it.
on 10.2, just use another Launcher. TwLauncher is the issue.
I get random reboots when using Google Maps Navigation, it just freezes for 4-5 mins then reboots... sucks when driving...
Just adding my tuppence...
I wish to mention before I start that I am more than happy with all aspects of Darky's 10.2EE - it's a really snappy and slick-looking ROM.
I have had the ROM installed for about twelve hours now. I installed the ROM only after cleaning-down my SGS, removing anything and everything that was not stock, and formatting with prejudice...
...but I'm a little concerned about something. Three times today, the system has apparently rebooted, showing the boot animation.
I do not believe it is a standard reboot, however, as it is very quick. It is rather more like a quick reboot, where the ram is cleared and the front-end re-loads.
It has happened while I was restoring apps (app only, no data), while I was downloading game data (N.O.V.A 2 first launch) and one other time (I forget what I was doing).
I am running ADW Launcher EX, so I don't believe it has anything to do with TWLauncher, though I may be ill-informed to make such an assumption.
I imagine that restoring my apps and intensively downloading data might be putting my SGS under some stress, and while it does not reboot while running anything particularly CPU-intensive, it does appear to be occurring when moving large chunks of data around.
However rare this issue, I'd welcome sensible suggestions on what to look out for. I'm going to see if I can replicate the reboot while plugged into the log viewer - if anything useful comes of it, I will post the result.
Again, let me re-iterate that I am not complaining - this is an absolutely amazing ROM, and if it happens to perform a ten second reboot every now and again as a result of heavy downloading or data movement, I think I can live with it. Everything else lives up to the 'blazing fast' claim admirably, and there seem to be massive improvements to general performance in CPU-intensive apps too (I was previously running Tayatuma's FroYo ROM, and despite some glitchy behaviour, I was too lazy to get rid of it until now).
lol darky. thats funny
10
@Whie Hawk:
1. DO NOT use 10.2, if you can use 10.2.2 (you flashed recently, didn't you?);
2. you are on custom ROM. Therefore, it is ALWAYS better to install app from Market, than to restore it, as some "minor" differences can cause "big" issues;
3. I'm (personally) glad that you're not on the "blazing fast" stadium yet
4. what I'm doing while switching ROM... is: I have all... "out of market" apk's on card, ready for install, while the Titanium is rather a list for me, not the resource. simply, when I finish flush, I check on titanium what I had, and then I reinstall it fresh from Market/SD card. BTW, Titanium is best for freeze/backup/restore while I'm on same ROM...
@Sixhouse: sorry, I couldn't understand... For a time being, looking on your posts, I presume that you are aiming to have 10.000 useless posts on XDA in different device's threads... Is it a homework in your primary school?

Buil.prop fix for Random Reboots on ICS

I read all the posts about the random reboots, and seemed to me it happens when the TF goes on deep-sleep mode. So I added these 2 lines to my build.prop and have not gotten anymore reboots:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
pm.sleep_mode=2
If someone can try it, and post your results to verify, it could help others that are having this issue.

No, I just thought that since some of the reports were mentioning the Deep-Sleep state, then disabling this could solve the problem. So I decided to root and modify the build.prop by adding those two lines. I haven't had a single reboot in more than 48 hours now. Before the modification I would get a reboot every 8-12 hours.

Added end rebooted. Experienced only a few reboots in the past 5 days. Wiped data from HC Revolver 3.11.1 and flashed ICS last week.
Will report. The first command line sounds promising already. I don't know zilch about coding so excuse me from being nub, but shouldn't that 0 be changed in 1 because the disable function should be 'enabled' (assuming 0= enable and 1= enabled)? Sounds more logical to me.
Good catch; I edited the first post.

-edit: just had a 1st reboot within an hour of changing from 0 to 1. Happened when I left my appartment (and my wifi connection) and opened my tablet in the train. I have wifi turned of during sleep. I also upgraded YouTube app for testing purposes during that period (although I never use it) to test 720p. Not sure if it's related.
No luck for me, about an hour after editing build.prop my tablet had shutdown again.

This might be the issue for some. I can see a little graphical glitch sometimes when opening the Youtube application, but then it goes away after a split-second. Maybe there's different hardware revisions of the Transformer, and some have a version that's being affected more than others?
I got even a worse problem! It kept rebooting itself continuously on the "Eee Pad" logo! I had to press the Power+Volume Down to shut it down then power it on again normally!!
I don't know exactly how long it was rebooting... I came back from work and saw it like that!

[Q] Please help with wifi reboots

I have done countless searches and tried everything I possibly could to find a solution to my problem and nothing has worked.
When running any 4.4 rom, and I have tried pretty much all of them, I have this wifi issue. The problem is that if I have wifi turned on the phone starts randomly rebooting approximately every 15-20 minutes when the screen is off. I have tried every setting, upgraded and reset my router(dd-wrt) with different settings and a static ip, and tried different apps that are supposed to help with wifi issues.
This does not happen on stock roms and I have zero issues with any other devices on my network. The very limited amount of info any where that I have found with a similar problem all lead to dead ends. This happens regardless of being a fresh install with no apps installed besides gapps. I really just can not think of anything else to try. Please help me with my G2, I really want to like this phone. :crying:
From the complete lack of info I am able to find on this it would seem to be quite a rare problem. But if anyone has any suggestions for me I would really appreciate it.
No suggestions at all?
Mine is doing this too, however not as frequently. Are you using a proxy app? And do you have auto-wifi disconnect on?
It has nothing to do with the router. I'm 99.9% sure it's either a rogue app or a bad install.

No I'm not using any proxy apps or disconnect. It's not an app or bad install as far as I know. Like I have said this has happened with every install of any 4.4 rom that I have tried. Including, PA, CM and Mahdi. When installing any rom I always do a full wipe, cache, data, dalvik and system. Even without out installing anything besides gapps it happens. So I think I can rule out a rogue app or a bad install.
I have reinstalled countless times and it always pops up. On occasion there has been instances where the problem does not start for several hours after a fresh install but invariably the issue does come up and the reboots start again every 15-20 minutes when the screen is off.
I mentioned the router because, although rare, they can cause issues with connecting devices. Most of the problems that I have read about is usually the other way around though. The router crashing with certain devices connecting to them. But I have had zero issues with my router and any other devices but still thinking it could be possible.
I have a 4.2 rom(Energy) installed currently with no issues whatsoever. It is only KItKat that seems to be a problem. I just have no idea what it could be.
What model is your g2 and kernel? The only thing I can think of is you are changing sleep tweaks on the kernel and causing it to sod when in deep sleep. Are you undervolting?

Well I took your advice. I wiped everything and did a fresh install, latest PA without gapps.The only thing that I have done is connected it to my wifi. I let it go for about 3 hours and had no reboots. So I installed Banks Core gapps. Again, I let it sit for 3 hours. No reboots. All the while it has been plugged in and charging. As I write this, I just unplugged it from the charger and within 2 minutes had my first reboot. We'll see if they continue.
So now, I wiped and reinstalled PA without gapps. I did not install anything else at all. Turned on wifi and started getting at least 2 reboots per hour without even using the phone at all. When I turned off the wifi it has been running for 10 hours now without any reboots at all. I am at a complete loss as to what could be the problem. Is there anything I can do?

Quarx' CM11 latest: Phone Problem needs reboot

Since 20140415 nightly update (installed via CMupdater) I'm experiencing the Phone Problem. The translated German text would be
"there was a problem with your phone's modem, the device needs to be rebooted..."
I've had those before, but to a small extend. Now it's more like: it takes around 30 Minutes from reboot until the "Problem" reappears.
I'm sorry, I cannot post to the dev-thread, yet. If any logs are needed, I'd update back to 20140415 or 20140416 (where this also happened) and try to grab'em.
EDIT: it might be important information: I've come from the "full" nightly "11-20140407-NIGHTLY_mb526", then used cmUpdater on the 14th, the 15th and the 16th April (so: the last three days), at least that are the files present in my /sdcard/cmupdater folder. The problem has appeared yesterday.
Question: if I do incrementals, will I have to update every day?
oops - it seems not to be the ROM I guess
As I didn't have those problems with 20140407, I downgraded to that version. Seems it didn't have an effect - just about half an hour after downgrade, I had the "Problem", again.
I'll reboot once and if the "Problem" reappears at the same rate, I'll do a full-wipe reinstall.

It is a hardware problem of the Defy, it will go away with time.

I'm having this since 3 days and I'm barely reachable because of that - what are the experiences, how long may it take until this goes away?

For me, the system stabilises after 36 hrs of uptime.

That sounds really weird! After it stabilizes - when does the problem return? Any idea what caused this effect?

It doesn't return. Hence I said the system stabilizes.

Try to flash new modem.Latest or just different.Try BasesbandSwitcher .I Had simillar problems with CM10 and I dont know how exactly i solved it - flashing,switching,trying...Some says that CM ROMs dont change the modem because it have no modem in CM ROMs.
That's the infamous RIL bug. Try disabling and re-enabling location. Doesn't make much sense, but fixed it for me.

That's what fixed it for me: I reflashed to factory, then installed cm10/cm11 freshly.

Thanks for that information - I'll try to remember next time I get banged by this.
Another search result
[email protected],
i just thought about perhaps creating another thread that may be made sticky, collecting all possible reasons, explanations and most likely workarounds for the RIL Bug - and I found this answer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50830467&postcount=5
It says undervolting might be a factor. My Defy is undervolted. So I'll try to figure out some less extreme settings, as RIL just reappeared on my phone.
P.S.: I couldn't find that post originally, as at that time I wasn't aware of the bug's name - searching for "RIL bug" in fact returns a lot of results.

that's the only thing which helped me too. many rom's worked okay for me and had no RIL reboots ever, but when i've tried to use them again instead of newer ones i tried - i got constant reboots. reflashed to factory and no more ril's again.
