[Q] Android 3G - Networking

Ive been tossing the idea around on whether or not its something to pursue. In my mind it seems somewhat feasible. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 (which from what I can tell is basically a Samsung Galaxy S without a data plan through a carrier) and it is rooted. There are even start-up processes and services for the dial pad and phone (even though its only supposed to me a glorified MP3 player). So with that being said here is my idea...
The original Amazon Kindles came with free 3g connectivity right out of the box (no service plan). I am thinking maybe there would be a way to set up the Galaxy to connect to the Kindles free 3g internet. Maybe mock a Kindle ID to the Galaxy. Even if you did something along the lines of running a Kindle ROM in a VirtualBox type app on the Galaxy for server authentication.
What do you guys think????
I am new to the Android world but not new to computers or hacking (by hacking I dont mean black hat. I mean modifying things to suit your needs ie. rooting).

The Galaxy Players don't actually have a cellular baseband. The package's position on the board isn't populated. Thus, it's completely impossible for the Galaxy Player to connect to a cellular network.
The reason the phone and dialer bits are still present is they are core to Android and can't be removed easily.

ok what about tethering the kidles 3g to wifi???

The Kindle's 3G is only usable to download books. The connection is very restricted, and you really can't do anything with it. Obviously, if the operator detects excessive traffic on an account only intended to download eBooks, your access would be killed pretty fast.

[Q] Developing an app for chinese tablets, are they reliable??

Hello,
I'm about to develop an app that is intended to run on chinese android tablets. It is going to do some simple animations, sqlite database, and communicate on a wi-fi internal network.
The last part is the one that scares me. This app is going to be designed to simplify the data handling in a business and it needs to be connected between 12-18 hours a day threw a wi-fi network. The network will consist in something between 10-50 tablets and a pc working as server. All the comunication will be done threw java sockets. And all the tablets will have a good wi-fi signal. But I'm afraid that because of some bad-quality wireless driver/card. It disconnects itself, messages get corrupted, corrupted messages are writen in the database and as a result nothing will work and I will have my cellphone flooded with complaints from several businesses.
So, I'm just being paranoid or can I count on these tablets to work as they should? Anyone has some experience developing for them to confirm that I'm just paranoid? I'm about to order one actually to test this particular issue, but maybe someone already did and maybe save me a headache or two by telling me their experience.
Also, should I expect them to stop working after a fixed amount of time like some other chinese products?
I picked these tablets because of their price and because they are needed in large quantities. If I say we are going to need 50 Galaxy Tabs, this project will fail; I need to be able to provide a cheap solution. I will be ordering them directly from China. If there are any known models I should stay away i would love to know them as well.
Thanks

3g from phone teher to a500 tablet?

maybe i am not using the search tool properly nor posting this in app section.
But anyone know any way to do so?
my xperia x10 is half dead already i would like to 3g tether to tablet for 3g uses.
I search the market for app, none of them seem to support it. Is there another method? I am not too great with this sort of things
would like a detail guide or explanation.
thank you.
p.s: also i would like to ask, is it possible to use rocket mobile 3g fingers from rogers (i live in canada) to obtain 3g? sorry i am not technical so no idea how these things goes.
I don't know anything about rocket mobile, but I just downloaded Quick Wifi Hotspot from the market yesterday and it worked fine while at the restaurant. I left the network open and named it my name and connected via the tablet with no issues. It's also free and that is helpful Hopefully it's compatible with whichever rom/android version you are using. I have an HD2 with an Android 2.3 ROM based on C7 (I think that's all the requisite info).
I have cheap zip cricket cell phone. I do love crickets service here in my area.thou some say its lame elsewhere.
Anyway I rooted my cell installed wireless tether.and when I turn it on my tablet or my notebook will connect automatically and its great for most things even tried Netflix yesterday. Pared with crickets unlimited plan for 50.00 a month.
Set wireless tether to Mac address security lots of people will try to connect.to use your internet.some just do it automatic ..
thank you, the reason i posted this is because my x10 still run on grandpa software (at least not 1.6) android 2.1.
Acer have an instruction on how to enable portable wi-fi option on phone and ad-hoc but 2.1 doesn't have that option yet.
since my phone is already half dead (thank to SE's crappy product), i don't know if i can root it and install custom rom before it brick or dead completely.
i will check out that method thanks.

Kindle 2 3G sim+cardock= awesome car enhancement?

I have a very odd set of questions to accomplish a very specific thing.
The atrix 4G was the best smartphone to use when driving, The simple mount with the unified power/audio cable, the interface, so I want to make it a permanent carphone for navigation and music.
so my roommate that I drive around with went with this idea and threw in his kindle 2 sim card to use, but there are 2 problems, but only one of them needs to be solved.
A. no data, I get signal, it recognizes the signal strength and carrier, but it can transfer any data, I believe it is a problem with the APN but after hours of researching and tweaking, I got no progress.
B. offline navigation. The sim will give me a GPS location, which is awesome, but while I can download maps of the area in google maps I cannot use navigation without a web connection. I would prefer to use the native app but that's just me being reluctant to trying new apps, so if I have to use a 3rd party app I can.
I don't really expect the kindle 2 sim to work for obvious reasons, even if I did get it to do data I would use it very lightly.
Another option is some kinda way to switch between 2 AT&T sims on my "unlimited" data account, as physically switching them will be a pain.
3rd option is a some kinda cheapo AT&T/T-Mobile quarter gig $10/mo plan.
At this point I am just tossing around ideas, and need some help steering and executing this project.
I'd be shocked if whatever network that Amazon uses for their kindles doesnt check the IMEI number of the phone to ensure its actually a kindle for this very reason. You're going to have to look at some other carrier for your needs. I'd avoid T-Mobile since the Atrix does not support their 3G bands at this time (they may in the future to support unlocked iphones, but I wouldnt count on it).
Amazon is probably using it's own proxy server for mobile data, and even if you managed to configure your phone to use it most likely Amazon will ban your sim card very soon.
I think the best solution is to set up your regular phone with unlimited data as wi-fi hotspot and use this wi-fi connection from Atrix mounted in car.
I agree with tananaev. I have read about countless people getting their kindle banned because they tried to tether it. Setting up a hotspot in your car from primary phone would be best. Just remember someone might try to break your window to steal your phone. I personally use line in with PowerAmp. Turns off when unplugged, turns on when plugged. Simple.
Data is not important for a 'car stereo'. With the atrix, you have roughly 10gb of space for music/videos and microSD are really cheap if you need more. Also, consider trying Navfree from the market. It uses openstreetmaps.org and is completely free and offline.

Tethering on rooted and unrooted Android phones.

Hi.
Firstly I want to put aside all warning about if it is legal or so, focus on technical issue.
I am not new if it comes to networking, that's why I want to expand my knowledge.
Just got new Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, and wanted to try tethering with my sim card.
Got message on web browser in PC and mobile as well:
"Are you using your phone as a modem or personal hotspot?
Reference SIM002
Using your phone as a modem and connecting it to other devices through WiFi or USB to get onto the internet (also called 'tethering'), is not what the plan you're on was designed for. If you would like to speak to someone about tethering options available to you, please call 333 free from your Three phone.
In the meantime if you want to get your phone back to browsing the internet you'll need to turn it off, allow it to reset itself for a few moments, and then turn it on again.
If you're looking for a Mobile Broadband connection, you'll get a better, cheaper and faster experience on one of our Mobile Broadband tariffs or devices. Just go to your nearest 3Store."
I found some threads here on our forum, but no answer how does it work.
As in my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 Relay) which is rooted it working fine.
Some people say network operator is doing Deep Packet Inspection - maybe, but it looks like rooted device appear for them as not hotspot and not rooted as hotpost.
Am I right? Is rooted phone doing it somehow smarted (e.g. making itself proper router with his DNS point and gate ?)

[Q] Is it possible to use the S5 as a SIP phone over wire (non-wifi,non-mobile)?

I'm strongly opposed to wi-fi and mobile radiation.
However I bought this S5 for taking photos primarily (16MP cam and all) and to test my websites on real smartphones.
So my ISDN phone is about the break and I thought "hey I bought this expensive piece of crap which can't do reverse tethering without rooting it, why not use it as a SIP phone instead of this phone that is about to break and save some money?"
Well I have found that with some Galaxy Pro tabs you're able to buy a USB<->RJ45 adapter, plug it in and use it as a SIP phone client, video calls and all.
Apparently you can't do this with the S5. At least not officially.
Right now my options are: sell it or trip knox and install a custom system. I'm trying to sell it right now but in case it won't get sold I'm stuck with it. (I have found no app that does reverse tethering properly, I have to set it up manually every time and even then some apps won't recognize a connection since neither 3G or wifi is enabled)
So my question is, do any of the current images floating around support a USB<->RJ45 adapter and does reverse tethering work out of the box on one of these images and do they also have a configurable SIP client?
