Assumptions: You have a custom recovery installed.
With the phone powered off, press the power button and volume up at the same time. Select recovery. Hook your phone up to your computer. In recovery, select "mount usb storage". Copy whatever ROM you want onto your phone. Unmount usb storage. Flash the ROM just you just copied over in recovery.

Thank you so much! it worked!

[Q] Formatted to much on my Wildfire.

Hello,
Here's the deal.
I managed to format pretty much everything with my Wildfire which was kind of stupid. So now it won't start because I don't have android installed anymore. Both the phone system and the SD card is formatted so I no longer have any source from which I can install.
What should I do?

you have recovery?
I can enter recovery. I have ClockworkMod Recovery.
But there I can't to a factory reset as I managed to format it.
Dont you have a stored nandroid backup? what network you on?
I was to eager to move forward with everything so I never created a backup... Stupid mistake really, but that's why I'm trying to fix it.
Right now when I start the phone I only see a white screen and the htc logo in green and then it is like that until I remove the battery.
EDIT: The only solution that I think is possible would be to stick the sd card into a card reader and add a rom so I can flash the phone again in order to get the OS back. Would that be possible?

I can get into clockwork recovery. Problem is I can't access the SD card as I don't have a card reader myself. But I guess that's my only option atm so I'll have to wait until I get a chance to try it out.
Cant you mount the sdcard from the advanced options in clockwork recovery and dump the rom onto it?

This should work, i always use this option to put files on SD
Goto partitions menu in recovery then goto mount usb storage and put the rom on and flash it

copy any rom to your microSD with a card reader and boot recovery!
Yes it's working. Thanks for all the help.
I have done the same mistake ....but I didn't quite understand what I have to do ...
I download any ROM on my sd card, put it back on my wildfire and then reboot recovery?? it that it?
Read through this thread, and if your still stuck, i will help you sort it out.
ROM fixed, touchscreen failed
I succeded with a new rom so I was very happy that I could pass the white screen with the htc logo on it. But then another problem came up. f***** frustrating. My touch screen does not respond. I tried rebooting. takind the battery off. Nothing!!! I have not dammaged the touch screen in any way ....like drop it or something like that . it just didn't respond.
Is there any possibility to fix it myself?
Try reinstalling the rom, if that does not work, try another rom. Let us know how it goes.
I've tried both options and the touchscreen is still not working. I can't understand how it stop workin...

I had previously been running the odex optimized apps and framework by dc13, and after copying the stock apps to the system/app folder i attempted to delete all of the .odex files. this is where i accidentally deleted some thing essential. i rebooted and was face to face with boot loop. been there ever since please help, i dont want to be stuck with an expensive brick!

thanks this worked like a charm. Gotta love the XDA community.
A strange thing happened to me, i was working with the tab, and layed it
aside for a while, suddenly it shutted down, and rebooted.
(Not sure where i went wrong, or why this happened, cant remember doin anything out of the ordinairy)
Then i got stuck in this bootloop.
Tried to update, wich goes okee i guess, but after the reboot, i got stuck in a
different boot loop.
Im sure i didnt mess with the standard files that came with the device,
however i have another bootanimation, than stock, could this be causing the "second"
bootloop?
Kinda out of options now, hope you guys can shed more light to this, but i think
i have to return it to Acer for repairs.
Btw: great device anyway!
Just want to let you know that was not the correct update.zip for our Country you make consider going back to the USA rom. Or you will not receive the Correct Updates. If any at all. These are the files and instructions you will need to get back to stock and be able to receive all updates.

Okay so this is what i did as directed by the guys above.
1. Download this file. have to warn you though this service is horribly slow http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ww.filesonic.com/file/958397...pdate.zip.html
2. Put your external SD card into your computer, and copy over the file to the root of the card.
3. Rename the file update.zip(make sure it isn't named update.zip.zip)
4. Put the SD card back it the tab.
5. Make sure your tab is completely shut down.
6. Hold down the volume down button and press the power button.( dont let go of the volume down button till the screen turns on)
7. The recovery will boot and the update should hopefully restore your tab.
8.(optional but recommended) follow these steps in order to revert back to the latest OTA american version so that your able to upgrade to 3.1 when it comes out.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101859
Hope this helps.
Thanks for quick reply, i did exactly those steps before, and it seems that the
update goes well, then after the update, the tablet reboots loads up a bit, and then
again runs into a bootloop.
That is what is different in comparison with the un brick methods come-out, i read all over this forum.
So im a little affraid something different is goin on, with or in my tablet after the update completes.
It just never really recovers from the boot loop with or without the update.
sadly.

Well sorry that didn't work, i am not to experienced with development for this tab, so im fresh out of ideas. It might help to start a new thread explaining that you tried to un-brick your tab via this method and that a boot loop still occurs. Maybe some super smart devs can help you.

yeah i did that right after i un-bricked it, but thanks for the heads up anyways.
For anyone else who has bootloop problems and finds his/her way to this thread, there is another option. Plug in a USB keyboard, then boot up the tab by holding the power button and volume down (the side closest to the power button) at the same time until text starts appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. Hit the home button on the keyboard, and boom! You are in a recovery screen. Use the keyboard to select factory reset, and your tab is back to the original state. You will lose root and all of your info, but you have your tab working again. There really should be a way to do this without adding a keyboard, but it works fine.

Thanks for the reply, but I had recently uninstalled Sync, I restarted my pc, and now it's working.
Had everything working, when I tried to boot a ROM, it was stuck on the htc EVO 4G screen. I went into recovery and wiped everything. Now I'm definitely lost.
Bump, hope it's not bricked...
If you can boot into the white HTC screen, IT IS NOT BRICKED! Put your recovery so you can transfer another rom via usb to your sdcard, then flash a different rom after wiping everything!

It also helps to know what recovery you're using to flash. Depending on the rom amonra works better than clockwork. I use amonra but that's just my preference. Not getting past the white htc screen isn't that problematic, battery pull vol down+power. How long you sit on the htc screen depends on the rom, some roms take all day to boot on that first one and you need to just let it sit and not panic. Some roms just don't work on some phones. I love Evolved's work but I could not get his "Directors Cut" rom to get past the white htc screen but my guy has the same hardware as I do and his booted right up. To me there is no perfect rom, it's the rom that's perfect for you. We're all different people and like different things. Happy flashing.
p.s.- Just make sure you do the usual wipes before flashing alot of devs also have a format zip that you should use as well. It really doesn't matter which one. Used them all and don't really have a preference to either of them.

[Q] So my Acer will not boot after the ICS update

I had the 3.2.1 and I used the script to turn backdoor on and also OTA updates back on. My Acer is rooted but stock rom. It saw the ICS update and downloaded and rebooted and I got the android guy with the gears turning and that progress bar went all the way and it looked like it rebooted again.
Now it is stuck at the "Android" name...usually its a black screen with a few seconds of that Android screen popping up then going back to black and it never progresses...i've tried rebooting. Anyone else having this issue?

I didn't ask that cause I know it can be easily found just been running around this morning so haven't had time to check it out. Sucks..didn't think i'd have an issue due to being on a stock rom
EDIT: Yes just tried it...it booted into recovery I believe..shows the android guy laying on his back with his stomach opened and a red triangle with an exclimation point
This may be posted somewhere but what app do I need to use to get my tablet back and running from recovery mode?

Me too. I have an image file, but cannot get it onto the tablet. Can someone tell me how I can use a PC to get an update.zip file onto the tablet so I can get it working again? Do you need help getting into recovery?
Power Off, hold in landscape so your volume buttons are on the upper left. Hold the volume + and power button for a few seconds, when the 'ACER' logo comes up, let go of the power button and keep the volume+ until you are into recovery.
I'm going to have to borrow a phone on Monday from someone to get the image file onto an old Droid X SD card I have and hope that solves my problem.
I fought with ACER customer support for an hour. Because I bought it on WOOT, they have the tablet registered to some other company and are telling me it is not in warranty.

Hmm for me the power button and volume - button puts it into recovery but the problem is it doesn't give me any options but shows the android character laying down with a red triangle above him. I don't have any options like I do when I go into recovery on my infuse phone. I still have a warranty as my tablet was purchased in December but I'd really rather not have to send it out :-/
When you go into recovery you have options?
And that sucks about the warranty situation...that's messed up

I have the same issue. ACER logo comes on then Android then it goes blank, flashes and seems stuck in a loop.
Trying to go into recovery does not work and you get the android down with a red triangle above its chest. It looked like it was looking for update.zip which was not on the SD card or external SD card. Not sure if it looked at both.

Yes. Exactly what happens with mine. Do we need to load an update.zip onto the sd card and then try recovery or would it only search on the internal memory? If that is indeed what it is trying to do.

If the OTA was successful it should tell you, so we will assume you're still on the HC b/l.
If you cannot boot to the OS or Recovery AND the update.zip method doesn't work THEN
Use TD's V4 if your original build is gen2 OR
a EUU package from vaches thread to recover your tab
If you can boot to recovery then restore from backup

yep i used td's backdoor/rootkeeper the first time i got the same result as you.
took a couple of tries but finally i'reverted to 3.01 and then OTA'ed up to 3.2.1
i did the following to get it to work
1) make sure backdoor is on, check sound is off - i had to run it twice before sound turned off
2) run busybox and backed up su location
3) run rootkeeper
4) opened acer recovery installer and loaded up stock recovery
5) and enabled the option in settings just to make sure and rebooted
6) checked system update and yes i have a new update
all four OTA's installed fine, i did lose root tho but opened backdoor and reset sticky bits
opened ari once again and got superuser request for access
loaded up cwm and booted into recovery and got recovery verified failed message. i had forgotten to uncheck the load stock recovery option in settings.
once i did that i was back to cwm
yeh it was a bit of a process and once i get the ICS OTA - i'll save it before installing - just for future possible borks - then put stock recovery back unroot b4 trying the OTA install - with any luck i should be ok....
Can you explain better what you did.
I over the air updated my tablet. And now am in the loop.
I do not have an update.zip. How do I recover to any version of android.
I had back door on.

[Q] Challengings for Brain users like me!

Hi guys,
First of all, i apologize if I post in a wrong forum, kind of new in XDA. Wanted to thank you all, because, even though, I didn't register, your forum helps me A LOT with android phones... I'm facing a situation with an HTC, and as I surfed the web, and no one seems to have the same problem, I'm adressing it in this forum.
I bought an refurbished mytouch 4g glacier on amazon. When it came, in addition to be locked (not a big problem), I couldn't enter the settings (the linked program is no longer installed on your phone) and worst, there is no dialpad. I assumed that the owner tried to flash it with a corrupt version...
As it is for me a brain challenge, i decided to try to fix it...
I made a factory reset with the buttons (pwr+vol down), same thing! I tried recovery, I think with the S-ON, it didn't work (red triangle). I tried to use wifi to download things or a file manager, but you'll need to access the settings options, and I don't have access. I download SDK manager, but the phone needs to be usb debugging to be found by pc, and I can't access the settings options. I download an usb debugging apk, put it in the sd card, but as there is no file explorer, I could access it...
This is why I asked your help. This is a Glacier pvt ship s-on, with green fonts, (cyanogen 7?: there were a difference with green fonts and orange fonts...)
Thanks in advance.

Ditto. If you don't know whether the phone is rooted, I would just flash the PD15IMG of the stock 2.3.4 ROM by loading the file onto the root of the SD card and booting into the bootloader (volume down + power). Then if after you are sure it works you want to root it, you can always go on from there.
In terms of figuring out which ROM you have, since you can't get to the 'about phone', if your boot animation just has the Tmobile MyTouch 4g logo on a white background, followed by a circular green MyTouch logo, then you are probably on the stock ROM. If it was CM7 or anything else, it would usually have a different custom boot animation.
Good luck!
You can also tell which stock version you are running: 2.2.1 has no quick settings tab in the notification drawer while 2.3.4 does.

Thank you for your quick answer... I have already done this 5 days ago. I downloaded the PD15img, put it in the sd card (actually, i didn't know which extension to put in the sd card, so i unzip the file and i let the zip one: i put both in the sd assuming the phone will use the best extension it needs!). I use pwr+ vol down, nothing happen.
Any ideas? Maybe if i found an update version of the pd15img?
Thanks for your help
Guys, I'm blessed...Not because I found the solution yet, but because I found you thinking with me!
It seems I have the 2.3.4, because, as you said, I have the quick drawer icon. I have already try the bootloader, but i will try again from the beginning. I will download again the pd15img (if it was a problem while downloading) and revert to you in 2 hours.
Thank you again!
It should be a file named PD15IMG.zip. Any file by that name placed in the root of the sd card will be flashed through the hboot bootloader. Don't unzip it. If it is named exactly that, when you boot into the bootloader via vol down + power, it should scan for it, and if it detects the file, it will ask if you want to update.
Be sure you are using the right PD15IMG.zip file (2.3.4 Stock). There are a lot of files by that name, since it is used to flash all kinds of things (radios, etc.). Looks like it might be available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476745&highlight=pd15img&page=10

Good luck!

I do have the Tmobile MyTouch 4g logo on a white background, followed by a circular green MyTouch logo. I'm on the stock rom then? Is that make any difference or I can still process with downloading pd15img? Anyway, that's worth the try!
I'll keep you posted
It does sound like you are definitely on stock 2.3.4 since you have the stock boot animation, and the notification bar quick drawer that was introduced with gingerbread 2.3.4.
It only makes a difference if you aren't rooted. If you weren't rooted and flashed a different ROM it probably wouldn't work, and you could get stuck in a boot loop (couldn't get past the hboot menu). But, the fix would be to flash the stock PD15IMG anyway, so you should be fine. Either way, nothing is going to happen unless you flash something, because it sounds like system files have been deleted.
I'm still kind of a noob, but I feel pretty confident with that. I've messed up before and recovered from hboot with a PD15IMG file. Your hboot and recovery sound like they are stock. Just be sure once you have it working that you remove or rename the PD15IMG file from your sdcard, otherwise it will keep trying to flash it when you boot into the bootloader.

I followed your link and downloaded the pd15img from there. i placed it in the sd...It detects it like earlier and still give me the message: sd checking....loading pd15img.zip....no image or wrong file image.
Any more ideas?
Some ideas here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035044
one person suggested making sure the sd card is FAT32 formatted, seemed to help his issue.
Also, you might want to be sure that even if it gives you that error message, there isn't a loading bar on the right hand side of the screen making progress. If I recall the last time I did it, it wasn't obvious it had worked, and loaded for a few minutes before popping up with 'do you want to update?'
Did you try both the 2.3.4 and the '2.3.4 new' file found on the aforementioned page?

Good and bad news!!!
The good news: It really makes a difference indeed to format the sd in Fat32. Although i formated it many times, as I used to see FAT, I didn't know there were another option for FAT32. Well, after format it in FAT32, i put the file in the sd card: pd15img loads successfully...
Bad news: I hurrily check if I can access the option: "the linked program is no longer installed on your phone".
At least, we know formating sd card in FAT32 does make a difference!.
Maybe I should try another new rom like 2.3.6?
Any ideas is welcomed!
Thank you
Wow, head scratcher. If you were rooted with a custom recovery I'd say you probably need to format the system partition and wipe data and cache before flashing, but obviously you can't do that. Might be worth trying a few times to force it through?
I think this is out of my league at this point. Hopefully someone smarter than me will pop in!
Only other thought is maybe something can be done through fastboot? But I wouldn't know what.

Yes I did! I even try the 2.2.1...All of them load successfully, but still without succes. It's like they are installed somewhere in the phone, but the original that has the problem never moved.
Is that because S is on?

Thank you a lot for your help. It's been useful cause I learned a lot, much more than alone. If I get through this, I will post.
My next thinking is to download USB debug apk into the phone, so maybe, it will enable the option and I could use adb. But in order to do that, i should pay to unlock it...(wondering if it worth it). As soon as i put a sim in it, i know my carrier would install the apn settings for me automatically, so i would be online and be able to download. I try the wifi options, but i couldn't connect.
Could you help me with the unlock?
Thanks in advance
I think that recovery file is for 2.2.1......
Get S-Off bro. Doesn't the stock image have a file explorer? I don't remember.
