Sorry for my bad English...

Hello,
I got the notification that there was an update available for my Xperia Play R800a (nvm, not Ice Cream Sandwich ), but when I connected with the PC Companion and tried to update, it says I have the latest already installed.
My phone is rooted and had some of the bloatware on the phone uninstalled (but backed up with Titanium Backup).
Anyone know if it's a problem with PC Companion, or because I rooted the phone do I have to update a different way?

Hi All,
Just saw on my phone X10i that some new update is available..
Is it for MT or something else?
Also can u plz confirm if I will update:
1. I cannot root after that??
2. All installed apps/games will be gonne??
What firmware do you have right now?
If it's the DT update then it won't delete any of your apps or anything. Also people have been able to root the latest firmwares using either SuperOneClick or the flash tool.
By the way, all of these questions have been answered many times already on this forum.

X10 has no multitouch -_-
There was a pinch-to-zoom update during Chinese New Year. And there hasn't been any updates after that. So I have no idea what this current update you claim is all about

just go with the .435 firmware.... i'm also from singapore and that firmware works well with singtel networks.... i assume it should work the same with M1 and starhub....
notice that the sms subsystem is quite flaky.... in a sense that it cant handle a large amount of sms... (like maybe 2000sms) and when my friend sends like 2 or 3 sms to me, the phone just hands for like 10s before being able to display the smses.... kinda very bad....

Not sure why you were downgraded to .204 though. Use flashtool to get the latest firmware.

the generic ones are already on 184 yours will be customized our small update was about 16mb i think
after messing on some games, Backstab & Asphalt
I'm sure there running a lot better with more FPS especially Backstab
BTW Waz, do you know if I'm safe to root my play?
its sim locked to orange but no orange logo on the back like there was on my desire
Thx
yeah though the safest way (same way im doing it) is with gingerbrick, leave the bootloader locked and just root it that way.
I already had that version when got my play

as long as your bootloader is locked and you rooted with gingerbrick your ok to update
What were the changes from xx.181 to xx.184? I updated mine but not noticed anything apart from a bit more slowdown?
Does this update block gingerbreak in any way? I'm not rooted yet, and I don't want to lose the ability to root (just haven't had the time to root it yet) after doing this update.

What if you used Titanium Backup or some other freeze program to freeze apps like Timescape and other bloatware. Do they need to all be restored before the update?
@waz can you still boot after using gingerbrick
And who makes such an app anyways
I would go for gingerbreak lol

OTA with unlocked bootloader

Hi can we do a ota from stockfirmware with a unlocked bootloader or with seus?
Hey, don't do OTA with unlocked bootloader! DON'T. Many people have already bricked their arc and play by doing so, including me. There is a fix for this brick already, but warning beforehand!

Update firmware through flashtool if you need to.

Welcome! Not to mention Sony Ericsson declines to fix phones with unlocked bootloader which are bricked. Not even if it got bricked through OTA. They will claim you responsible.

If you had your bootloader unlocked with testpoint method, you are free to OTA update with no issues, only phones unlocked through official sony method loose ability to OTA.

Yep OTA away, you will have no issues. If you deleted any apps from /system/app/ though OTA will fail. You must restore /system/ to default state
I haven't deleted anything I just took the brand new phone out the box linked up with Alejandrissimo lol used a pair of tweezer to bridge the test point cause I couldn't find a paper clip anywhere and when done check it was unlocked and put it back in the box.

I just called at&t to get official info about this. They said it was build 3.0.1.B.0.285, which has been out since April. They could not tell me why they sent out a sms about it being a "CRITICAL UPDATE". I recommend NOT getting this update as it will remove root access and as far as I know there is currently no way to root .285.

It is indeed build 3.0.1.B.0.285. I was rooted before I ran the update, and I did not loose root access afterwords. Whether or not you can root after you update if you are not already rooted I do not know.
If you OTA the update you can keep root, but if you use pc companion you will loose root. OTA would not work for me so I had to use PCC, lost root, then had to flash back to .270. Sorry, I should have specified about OTA vs PCC.

You can't do OTA if you are "bootloader unlocked. And about critical-"It's *critical* that AT&T and Verizon come out of the stone age!! We are almost on Jelly Bean.lmao. They just push these out to catch one of us with unlocked bootloaders slipping to force us to buy a new phone.

I think you'll still can get an OTA update if you just root the device
I don't know for sure, I didn't have time to try. Update in my country is at very slow pace, and after I root my device I haven't get update while the newest update rolling out at other country but not in my country, so I decided to install custom ROM to get latest update asap

Yes, I'm using titanium backup too for backing up and restoring apps, it's very usefull and it's worth to buy the pro version.
I think you'll also need OTA Rootkeeper to protect the root if there's OTA update so you can root your device easily, still, haven't try these yet because I already use custom ROM, but I still have it just in case I'll need it sometimes in the future. Me, I use voodoo OTA rootkeeper, the first one I found in playstore, don't know if there are any others.
Still don't know many much since this is my first time using rooted android and still learning about this device, that's least info I know and can share with you.
