[Q] Software locked Venue Pro. - Venue Pro General

Hi, I recently obtained a Venue Pro but when I turn it on it shows a black screen with the clock, an emergency call button, and a legend asking me to "Try again in [6+ digit number] minutes". If I hold the camera button it efectively opens the camera application, but that's all it does. Is there a way to restore it to defaults or force install a manual update, maybe?
Also, if I hold the camera button when I turn it on, it doesn't go further than the Dell boot screen but I can plug it into my computer and it will recognize it. If I open Zune with the phone plugged it it will show a restoration error.
Any help?

Sounds like the device is pin locked. Obtain the pin from the seller or report the device to the police and contact your credit card company that the item you recieved was stolen and you need a chargeback (refund)

'Device locked' on Today screen doesn't work, right?

Hi all, if you try the following...
1. Click 'Device unlocked' on the Today screen so it changes to 'Device locked'
2. Turn device off / wait for it to go to sleep
3. Turn device on / wait for something to wake it up
...the device has unlocked itself, correct or is it just my Xda Mini S?
So how are we supposed to lock the device properly from accidentaly screen taps -- a problem I keep encountering?
Also, is there any way to add a timeout to the device lock, so if the screen isn't tapped for 5 mins, it automatically locks (assuming we actually make the lock feature work in the first place!).
My K-JAM used to do this all the time.
I never actually worked out the exact cause, i have a feeling it may have been caused by software i was testing when i 1st recieved the k-jam.
It stopped doing it altogether after a recent hard reset.
Sorry i wasnt more help.
Cheers
Chris
the device lock wasn't made with these systems in mind... it's intended for smartphone devices which don't have a 'suspend' state - let alone a button you can push to put it into, and bring it out of, that state.
If you want a free, proper locker, put the following in your today-screen-app-launcher of choice:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14621
This'll 'lock' even the on/off button (immediately 'locks' again if you try to turn it back on, or shut it off (by holding down the on/off button - as you need to confirm by dialog)).
On the down side, it'll also turn your display off.
To unlock, on the Wizard, you need to press the Messaging (top-left, front side) button and the Voice Dial/Memo (top-right, side) button at the same time.
That lock/unlock feature on the Today screen is pretty crappy actually. I locked my keys religiously. And half the time, I would pull my phone out and it was on a webpage or on my email... and I never opened them.
I'm hoping they fix this...

Well it's ridiculous that O2 etc. keep the function enabled by default on the Today screen of their units, if the feature is for Smartphones only! But then, there's a lot of things O2 don't understand about the world but don't get me started on that.
Warning! Do not use Screenlock!
Warning: I think this program just killed my Wizard. Don't install unless you know the risks.

People, please don't recommend software on here that is not tried and tested on WM5.0.
On my Qtek 9100 it works. The only button that doesn't lock is the power button. Accidental tap of the power button will turn the screen on. You cannot even press and hold to power off when locked. When phone comes back on it stays locked.
I have been using this application for a while now - but I think the warning for installing sofware goes for all software. Who is to say that SPB doesn't install something that 'phones home'? Or that Mort Script doesn't cause irreperable harm to the registry stack when using its registry functions?
I've had no problems with it, but I guess I'll continue in your other thread.
I also can't just quickly tap the on/off button. Sure, it goes on - but it then immediately goes off again as well.
Thanks. What happens if the device crashes or you soft reset whilst the screen is locked? Does it reboot unlocked with the screen on? I wondered if mine had somehow locked completely, so the screen is off when it reboots ...but that wouldn't explain no LEDs working either :?
I don't know about crashes but, with some reluctance - admittedly, I tried the soft-reset (pin button at the right) while the screen [w]as locked...
...the device switched off, switched back on, booted up, and displayed my Personal Info screen.
So... no problem there, sorry :/
Well I have my replacement Mini S now. Any other programs than ScreenLock that do this? I'm sure I found once, but I can't find it any more :?
I couldnt get screenlock to work on the ppc6700, but mortsaver worked just fine, you might want to try that.
I'm perhaps misreading this, but the device locking seems to work ok for me on my XDA Mini S. Once I've locked the Mini S the only way I can use it again is to unlock it - if I touch the power button or let it go standby itself, when I touch the power button to wake it up, it remains locked. Also, if I hold down the power button for five seconds or more the Mini S will not give me the option to switch off entirely.

Hi John,
Do you have a Device Password setup? ( Start > Settings > Personal > Password > [x] Prompt if device unused for... )
I find that when
1. Device Password is enabled
2. you lock the device
3. you press the device on/off button (goes to standby)
4. you press the device on/off button again (goes back on), the device is unlocked.
When Device Password is disabled, and you then follow steps 2-4, the device remains locked
In my experience this is true [it sort of makes some sense you can't type in your password with the device/screen locked].
it would make sense if...
A. the password dialog would actually pop up (note that if you turn the device off/on manually, before the password prompt timeout, the password dialog does not show up)
and
B. they would first show the unlock screen and -then- the password prompt
The password prompt facility effectively overriding the unlock screen is just bad software design.
well put zeboxx... i wanted to say something in those lines but couldn't articulate them properly [ended up with a it sort of makes some sense jibe...]

Nope, I don't have a device password enabled which explains it.

Key press (by mistake) on the case

When my device P3600 received call or sms, the device is powered up, and then all the keys are active. If the device in case some key can be press (by mistake) and activate a program on this situation.
Does any one have a solution for that?
Use the Device Lock Feature in your Today Screen.
I do not like to add one more line to the dotay screen
can I use it without add it to the dotay screen?
If you don't want an additional line on the today screen then the other option is to set the device to request a password after only one minute of inactivity (under "Settings", "Personal", "Lock").

10x, but this is not help, the lock is form power up the the device, and the device is automitly powered up when received call or sms
I use a program called "device lock" that can be mapped to one of the buttons, I use button one when you hold for a few seconds. The app locks the phone and turns off the screen, so when you recieve a call or sms the screen will turn back on but the phone will still be locked.
Have a search on the forums here for it, that where i got it from.
Cheers

in this case you can not aswers a call, when received one - because when the device is lock there is no quick way to answer that call.
or I miss someting here.

Yes you can answer a call, the device lock only lets you use the power, answer, and hangup buttons. When the call is finished it is still locked, unless you unlock it.
I use this one. http://www.mr2-power.com/downloads/DeviceLock.CAB
10x, GREAT, this will do the job
it is work fine - 10x

I am glad you found a way to solve your problem but I don't understand why my suggestion should not work. If you set your device to request a pin after one minute of inactivity if you receive a message the keys will still be blocked until you enter your pin. (I am talking about device PIN not SIM PIN).
And if you receive a call the answer button works even without entering a PIN.

Your solution works too, the only thing is sometimes (for example) I'm sitting on the couch using my phone for email or surfing and watching a TV program. I stop to watch something interesting for 3 minutes and my phone has locked itself with the pin lock. I have to enter the code each time this happens. It can get annoying. If I use devicelock, I lock the keys when I need to, obviously when I'm at home and my phone is on the coffee table, it doesn't need to be locked. I set my device pin lock at 2 hours, that should give the phone enough time to lock itself if I loose it...hopefully.
yeah... but when you loose your phone the device lock doesn´t matter. only reinstall a Rom and your phone can be used.

Yes, very true, but at least they won't be able to see all my contacts, appointments, notes etc. That being said, I always use FlexWallet to encrypt all sensitive information which is synchronized to my laptop.
touch screen and buttons can be locked during a call?
I followed up this thread and found it very interesting. But it does't focus all the problem:
when call's come in, your solutions are ok.
But when I want to make a call, I found there is a nasty *****, clicking to call waiting or to head speaker on, opening a note or calling my voice box etc. etc.
Then I found that it was my ear or my fingers, clicking on the touch screen or my fingers clicking hardbuttons.
I think tat during a call on the normal speaker the only buttons to be active should be "hang on" and "loud speaker on". With loudspeaker or BT on, or call terminated,s screen and buttons should come back to full function.
Anybody knows a solution to this?
Regards, and keep on, its a great forum. i love it.

Hmm this is just "device lock" that we can see in HTCplugin. In my case it does not turn off the screen. It just locks my device. Is everyone has "turn off the sreen" functionality?

I lastly tried the on-off button to block screen during outgoing calls.
I never did this before because I thought it would cancel the active call, but it doesn't.
Ok, I see it's more or less doing what I want. But it's very unconfortable. When I hit it bad, or don't hit it at all, or forget to press it?
Isn't there a posibility to have the screnn sensibility off, only sensibility, until the call is either ended, passed to outer speaker, headset or BT? or perhaps simply until I give it free manually?
It would improve safe usage of that phone remarkably, I think.
If not :-( , well, I allways can press the button ;-)
curious for what solutions you'll find on your problems with incoming calls. Perhaps that will give me an Idea.
Chears
I've complained about this on just about every major forum I have found. Hopefully, someone will eventually write an app to allow personalized device locking. I would set my trinity to not wake for ANYTHING and have ONLY the power button active. I would prefer to get audible alerts (or vibrate) to incoming calls, alarms and messages. Pressing power would be the only way to turn the device on. PIN features only annoy me. This would be very useful anytime I am not willing to immediately respond to a notification - driving, having dinner, in a meeting, etc. It could significantly improve battery life. I store mine in my pocket and accidental button press is a problem as well.

Any way to prevent the HD2 from locking itself when you put it in sleep mode?

If I press the right-hand button to put my HD2 in "suspend" (i.e. still on and able to receive calls but with the screen off and saving power) then it always insists on being "unlocked" as soon as I turn it back on. This was originally only mildly annoying - just required me to slide the slider - but since I've connected to my office Exchange server it now also inists on me entering a 4-digit PIN whenever the phone is unlocked. So now, just to bring the phone out of sleep mode I have to press the power button, slide the slider, then enter a 4 digit pin and press the "unlock" key. This is driving me up the wall! Is there any way to get the phone to be already unlocked when it comes out of sleep mode?
I'm using the T-Mobile version of the HD2, unflashed, if that makes a difference.

Sounds more like an Exchange issue to me....
I do know that connecting to an exchange server can force the phone to ask for a PIN, which is fair enough really. What happens if you use BsB Tweaks and turn off the Auto Lock now? I'm guessing that it will still ask for a pin, but you won't need to slide to unlock.
Tip number 27 on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Now it should only ask for the PIN after the timeout period, not every time.
Try looking at my reply on the following thread. Works great for me

HD2 WP7 screen not responding. Need help to access SMS

Hi! I have a massive problem atm that I'm hoping to get your guys help on. My screen on my HD2 WP7 device is caput...not responding at all to any touch input. I know that this had nothing to do with the ROM (PDAimatejam Rom v8) but more the hardware itself (I believe that this is a common problem with old HD2's - ie. diffuser goes or something). Right now the only thing I can do is accept or reject an incoming call. I don't mind resetting the device but there are 2 SMS text messages that I desperately need to read.
Is there any way to access these via my computer using USB->microUSB, or if there is a utility that I can flash to it to allow me to access the device interface? If so, it will have to be something that I can flash as I cannot access the device interface at all.
Hopefully I can resolve this soon with your advice/help! Thank you in advance!
you can try but only if you have SMSBackup installed on phone
restart phone (screen must be not locked) to show main screen with tiles
connect to Zune
install SMSBackup to phone (if not installed) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448197
install wf Phone Tools to PC (if not installed) http://wpmanagertool.codeplex.com/
run wf Phone Tools, connect to device (Zune must be run and screen unlocked), select "extract sms from device"
Thanks for the reply dxdy. I'm downloading wfPhoneTools now. ClickOnce installer ran but application doesn't open. In any case, I'm unsure if this work....if I reboot my phone I won't even be able to get to the main tiles interface. I can bypass the "Enter PIN" screen by pressing 'Back' on my device, but that will take me back to the lockscreen, and device is not registering any touch input for me to even slide up to unlock. Advice please?
screen not responding? try pressing the call and power button alternating quickly and simultaneously. This works coz sometimes the digitizer is located at the bottom of the power button and gets stuck at times from pressure (like putting it in a tight pocket) and the green button puts counter pressure on the opposite side so relieve the pressure

Hi drmodify. Tried that as well but to no avail. I followed some advice I read up somewhere on XDA to press down hard just above the power button, in a way to kind of 're-seat' the digitizer (lol, I called it a diffuser in my op!). That actually did the trick, albeit temporarily. But managed to get my SMSs off the phone. Thanks anyway for the input!
