Has the Note killed the 7-inch tablets? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Some reviews show that the Note is able to perform as well as the 7-inch tablets so it looks like the Note will soon replace them.

I doubt this highly . Bigger screens will always be better.
We have the resolution, yes - but try playing majesty on the note.
That's just painful. It's too small.

I was planning to get 7 inch tab. But not anymore

I have owned and used daily an original galaxy tab 7" since they launched, and I am planning to replace it with a note in a few months. Mainly waiting to see what is happening with them in the United States, but I am also hoping that they will drop at least a little in price by then.
My one complaint about my 7" tab is that it is almost too big to keep in my pockets year round, and if I hope to get a good upgrade, I am certain that the 7.7" will be too big for my pockets, so the note it is.
I still see the mid-size form factor of 7"+ having a following for persons that carry a bag everywhere and prefer the fine balance of screen real estate and mobility that the 7" form factor strikes.

I use my 7" HTC Flyer for school when I'm in Clinical(nursing) It fits really nice in my lab coat, and people recognize it as a tablet/productivity device. If you try and pull out a phone, even a 4" one they will think you are texting or playing around(even though you can do that on a tablet) they just some a stupid perception towards phones vs tablets being out on the floor...Hopefully the Note is big enough to be seen as a tablet. The Flyer is just a tiny tiny bit bigger then what I need it for. I really want to unload my iPhone 4 and just keep a iPod Touch for times when I need those apps....
I plan on replacing my HTC Flyer with the Note myself. I currently use a iPhone 4, HTC Flyer w/pen and a 16gb Wifi iPad. I also have a touchpad, but that mostly sits in it's doc as a clock untill the android build gets to at least beta.
I had a 3g iPad when it came out, so I still have my unlimited plan. I canceled my contract with ATT and changed out my APK on my iPhone so I could run it with my unlimited data only SIM. With the Power of Google Voice and Jailbreak mods, I can use it as a normal phone with data only(talkatone and gv ext) Plus share the internet with my Flyer and wifi iPad that I got in a trade plus cash for my 3g ipad.
I see you can buy Galaxy Note's on ebay already(for a while now actually) but I'm hesitant at this point because I'm not sure my Unlimited data SIM will work in the device for data only. Plus, I'm not ready to go with-out hotspot capability, so I need to wait till we get a custom rom that lets us do that(if the stock ROM does not already have that built in). Plus, from what I understand, there is a chance that ATT may get it with LTE...and that would be worth starting another contract to me!(I doubt they would let me use my unlimited data sim on LTE...that would rock if I could do that!)
Holy crap I went off topic and rambled...
So yeah.

I have the note and an ipad, in my opinion the note will replace 99% of the tasks the ipad does. The larger screen is an issue when viewing media but for everything else the 1280x800 screen on the note is amazing. The pure quality of the samsung hd screen means I won't be looking for another tablet.
Once ice cream sandwich appears it will be the perfect device.
PS if size is the issue then yes it is a big bugger but. So am I.

The only time I find I need my iPad is when I need to take notes with the larger on-screen keyboard. I don't see myself upgrading from my iPad 1 till they have the Retina Display. Till then it's only a way to share documents when I need a larger view.

I have replace a HTC Flyer to Note, the display is not much differance,
Don't understand why all Tablet have very big screen outside, make a big device but display is small.
Note is phone style, have a small screen outsides, so it totaly side is small enough for pocket when still keep big enough for display.
Note is all in one for my daily use

I agree. That's why I would never bother with an ipad or the like.
I have a 26" and a 22" screen ganged in dual mode at home on my pc,
and my phone goes with me everywhere.
I've got no use for anything in between.

Does note replaces the tablet in everyday use

I have note and planning to buy a tablet I just want to ask the members who own both tablet and the note what advantages a tablet has over the note in everyday use.

No, the Note does not replace my Ipad but it does replace my HTC View. It is still a pain to browse with the note. I find the note replaces a 7" but not a 10". 10 inch is nice for PDF tech books, textbooks and newspapers. Even watching a movie is much better. My girl friend loves "MY BIG 10 INCH" tablet. Sorry, had quote the song. I love the old Aerosmith stuff from the 70s.
I think magazine and ebooks application are much better on a 10 inch tab

I would actually have to disagree. I was planning to get the new ASUS Transformer Infinity when it was going to be released, but not anymore now that I've got a Note. It's the perfect size IMO between a phone and a tablet and there's no use for a tablet now. It also helps having a Macbook air on the side =)
On weight and portability the Note wins hands down if you're gonna use it for extended period of time, specially for an old rat like myself, both of my 10.1 tabs went to wife and son .
However a Windows 8 tab, now that's a different story.
i've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v and the note doesn't replace it. It's even cooler to see your pictures on a 10.1" screen
But if there is a situation where i can't go with my tablet or i doesn't want to carry it around the Note is a good alternative
I sold my Motorola Xoom after I bought the note.
So my note did actually replace my tablet.
The Note screen is big enough to be used like a Tablet and if you buy a Samsung WPS WIFI printer and WPS router then it can replace a laptop for printing too.
my Xoom has been dead since January when I got the phone
I have the Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Note and I think the SGN totally replaces the iPad, except for one thing:
If there is an app which you want and which is exclusive to the iPad, then you have no choice!
The form-factor is OK, in my opinion. The big advantage is that the iPad always stayed home (too big and valuable to carry around, along with my iPhone).
No I have the SGN and I HAVE to take it with me. This way I end up with a phone and a (small) tablet everywhere I go. That, in my opinion, is the major advantage.
Also, the iPad1 and iPad2 only have 1024x768 screen resolution, which means that the SGN can render more stuff on the screen. You just need to be able to read them.
The best advice: try yourself! If you can read the screen, you get a 2 in 1 device.

vma
Note replaced both my iPhone and iPad. Very happy with this, a single device to do all the stuff.

Webpage browsing awesome. Movies awesome. Email and messaging great!
My eyesight not so good but I can zoom in without needing my reading glasses.
It will never replace a 10" tablet but for portability I have never found anything as good - as brilliant - as the Note!

i dont know if it replaces a 10 inches tablet

I've got a HP Touchpad and used it daily when I had my iPhone. Since getting the GNote, I've used it only a few times - as a video player in the back of my car, to see what ICS was like, and to get past particular mission on GTA 3 where the smaller screen on the Note (compared to 10 inch one on the tab) were causing dexterity issues!
Other than that its been GNote all the way and I've never been happier with a phablet.

[Q] Why get a 7 inch tablet if you have a super phone??

OK at £160 the incoming nexus is a lot of hardware for the money. A real contender and should sell like hot cakes to both the nerdy and normal markets.
But why should I get one?? I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus that, shy of the CPU, has the same spec! Can anyone think why I need both? ATM I got:
- Reading books,
- Watching Family Guy,
- Its new and sparkles with play with me
I've heard from a few sources that it's hard to figure out where a tablet fits into your world until you actually have one to use. I guess at that point it's counterproductive, but it's something to consider.
For me personally, I've held off getting a tablet for forever because I couldn't justify it. I'll probably pick one of these up just because it's such a bargain, and see where things go from there.

That's my current line of thinking, Im thinking that eBay "like new" will be very similar the play store price.
will save my eyes and battery on my phone big time.
Should have a great dev community and the price can't be beat.

My Motorola Atrix has a 4" screen. Browsing the net is a huge pain. Also, the price.
A super tablet needs a super phone to tether to.
for your case it is not much of an upgrade from the note considering the not is a 5.3 inch screen however most phones are 4.3 or 4.7 so the bigger screeen is a lot more noticible
I have read that the nexus 7 has quad core cpu with 1gb of ram. and this is where it gets me....12 core gpu! i am gonna play soooo many games on this! but i will wait to get one.
I'd actually suggest that people with expensive flagship phones not get a 7" tablet because it will ruin you on smartphones. You'll have this nice 4.5"+ device that you'll only use for talk and text because the screen is suddenly too small to do anything on.
I have a One X, and an iPad 3 already. The only thing missing is something in the middle. Gotta fill the gap.

That's what I'm hoping for, I have my Note at 5.3" which is nice for most things, but still feels small for browsing. I have my HP Touchpad at 10" which is good for browsing, but too large to carry around everywhere. I ordered the Nexus 7 to fill the gap. Hopefully this won't spoil my other devices lol.

Yeah I had the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus for about 4 hours. Loved the size, just hated the software that was on it. I returned it the same day I bought it in hopes that something better will come along in the 7" category. I'm really hoping this thing is going to be great. I have an iPad 3 and I love it, but I really want something a little more portable.
something else to drain my battery on before I waste my phone's battery.
Google should incorporate a cellular radio into the Nexus Tablet just like my Tab 7.7 does.
I could never go back to carrying two separate devices and even the Galaxy Note screen size was not cutting it for me.
I'm getting it in-part because it's going to have a large development community and I can get by with it being in a half-working state.
There's nothing worse than flashing a new ROM on your phone and then having to run before you can get it set up. You're downloading apps as you need them, adding accounts, and trying to organize your homescreen in the cab. It's not fun.
I plan on avoiding that all-too-familiar situation with my N7. I can hack it all I want and still have my One X in working condition.
For those of us who love breaking and fixing their devices but need a phone that always works, the N7 is really a no-brainer.

I have my one x which is perfect at everything in any ways and has exact same specs apart from screen size and resolution and I will buy one of these mainly because its the easiest way to enter the tablet market, it will have a large dev community and hopefully just reduce the need of my one x a bit like web browsing while at home or YouTube videos

I have a Galaxy S2 and I feel the screen is still slightly too small to properly enjoy watching a full movie etc.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't necessarily want a bigger screen than 4.3" on a phone, but I think this is where the tablet fits in nicely. Laptop for proper gaming, word processing etc. Phone for calls, facebook when I'm out and texting. Then the tablet for watching movies on a train/plane, browsing the internet at home and possibly playing the odd bit of GTA3 :victory:
Never like or bought any of 10 inch tablets, at that scale I've had Sony Vaio VPC-X11 (weights same as original iPad) and now have Vaio Z23. This 7 inch tab sit quite nicely between my Galaxy Nexus and the Z23.
I've tested (bought and sold after a few days) Galaxy Note so I know I do not want a phone any than Galaxy Nexus and there are times when I do not want to go get my Z23 that usually is downstairs in my HT room. I'm hoping Nexus 7 will take primary duty as my couch web/youtube device, if not I'll make it a new remote for my HT with iRule for Android

Do you still need a tablet?

With the Galaxy Note, do you still find yourself neediny a tablet? What devices are you presently using on a daily basis?
I currently use my 5.3 inch Galaxy Note as a phone/tablet but find myself using my 15 inch laptop more merely to save battery life.
I am looking into an Asus Transformer to replace my laptop. The one here looks good...
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-...let-pc-with-docking-station-13657744-pdt.html
Alternatively, I could simply buy a Mugen extended battery. It would add some heft but then I would have the battery life of a tablet device - something I find the Note lacks.
So, what doo you think I should do? Buy a larger battery for my Galaxy Note or save up the extra and get that Asus above? Also, I again ask you what devices you find yourself using on a daily basis now you own your Galaxy Note?

The Asus is the best tablet for me, as the keyboard dock would allow me to do my homework on it, and I would want a 10 inch tab if any. 7 inches is not enoughof a step up, in mu opinion, from any high-end smartphone nowadays that has a 4.5+ inch screen. The size difference between the Nexus 7 and Note is especially minimal.
Buying an extended Mugen will costs me almost a hundred dollars - more eveb perhaps thanks to VAT here in the UK . But it will offer me one perfect device and I would then only need a laptop for homework. Also, I couldn't afford two data plans and my unlimited 3 mobile plan does not alow tethering, unless there is a way around thia that anyone knows of?

Of course, the Asus Transformer Pad 300 has some pretty good specifications compared to other tabs and - unlike the Note - it can run tablet apps. The keyboard dock also looks useful. So, what do you all recommend?

I still use my original Transformer quite a lot. I've got the keyboard dock but use it less than I thought I would although I usually pair it up when not in use as it charges the tablet up brilliantly. I am looking to sell it (if anyone is interested) as I want a Note 10.1.
I'm too lazy to even go get my tablet from across the room and turn it on. My phone is always with me an arm reach away. It's so much easier and quicker, and my hand/wrist doesn't get tired from holding that heavy tablet. If I want to watch movies, I have a TV hooked up to my PC for that, with real speakers. I only have a One X right now, but that 4.7" is enough to make me semi-forget about my tablet. What will the 5.3" note that I ordered do?
Lol you know the funny thing is, I don't consider myself to have big hands. I guess my fingers or long, but I don't see it that way. Holding the One X, I have to sort of claw it since it's thin and angular on the side, sloping towards the screen. The Galaxy S III is probably wide enough, but lacks the thickness for comfortable grip too. The note I tried out at the store just engulfs my hand and I can grip it perfectly. It fits so well. I dunno about my pockets... I had a 7" nook color and could manage holding it at the latter half of my fingers without too much trouble. Too bad it doesn't fit in a pocket!
Used my missus iPad a few times to get her out of a pickle when the apps, need killing or updating, other than that I leave it to her, she loves it, it is big compared to my note, but then it is handy for showing friends family photos.

Thanks for all of your responses. As I said, it is a toss up between purchasing either an extended Mugen battery or an Asus Transformer Pad 300 and I'd like to hear what you all think I should purchase. Buying a Transformer would give me more screen real-estate, safe my phone's battery some heavy usage, a truly portable computer-like device and the keyboard would mean I wouldn't need to turn my laptop on to do my homework. However, buying a Mugen battery offers me a sole device capable of almost all my daily technological usage and I'd only have to switch to a laptop for some homework or if I wanted to do some light PC gaming (my laptop can't handle many games naturally).

Well, 10 inches is almost double the size of the Note, so it is a much larger size. I initially wanted a new laptop, as my current one is failing to run the games I recently purchased on the Steam summer sales. But, seeing as we have a main family computer capable of running these, I've begun to think about purchasing a 10 inch tab. The Transformer Pad 300 seems to offer me the functionality of a keyboard for homework at home, but I can take it off and simply carry the tab when I want to do some viewing in bed for example.

I disagree slightly here.
I have a Transformer Prime, a Nexus 7, and a Note.
The Prime is largely unused unless I am going somewhere where there is WiFi and I think that I may need to look at some work related issues - I don't care what anyone says, the Prime can serve quite well as an impromptu Netbook for the most part. It is seldom undocked these days though, and this is especially true now I have the Nexus 7 too.
Prior to getting the Nexus 7, I would mostly use my Note at home, but now I find myself reaching for my Nexus 7 more and more often - whilst 1.7" may not seem like much it makes a world of difference when reading books or comics. I had an original Samsung Galaxy Tab, and I've always been a fan of the 7" form factor.
My Note is still my primary media consumption device though, and if I could only keep one I would keep the Note, not just because it's also a phone (which I would require anyway) but because it can do everything the other devices can and more, even if sometimes it is slightly less convenient. Yesterday, whilst at the gym, I had an urgent call from work regarding something that required my attention, and I used Splashtop on the Note to connect to my PC at home in order to make some coding changes - it would've been a lot easier on the Prime, but given I was on an exercise bike at the time, that wasn't an option!
Regards,
Dave
I see two options really...
Purchase an extended Mugen battery for my Galaxy Note, which will allow me to use the device fairly comfortably as a tablet with around 9 hours of screen time. The problem with this is that the battery turns the Note into a literal brick and, unless I purchased a wireless headset, I doubt I'd be able to comfortably make calls in public (not that I make calls at all on my phone really as I mainly just text). However, having one sole device that is still portable and offers me almost everything I need to do technologically - except homework- has some real appeal.
Purchase an Asus Transformer Pad 300, which will allow me to spare my Galaxy Note some heavy usage throughout the day and, consequently, have a longer lasting battery life. The keyboard will allow me to almost replace my laptop, as the device comes with Polaris Office installed for free. The larger screen would make my hours of YouTube browsing much more comfortable also. However, this option is much more expensive.

Thanks, but to me 7 inches is not enough of an increase - having personally seen my relative who lives with me's Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 also lacks a Micro-SD/SD card slot, which is something I'd have to have in a tablet or any mobile device personally.

Yes, but 5" is still kind of small to use every day!
I used to use my Galaxy note as tablet using Paranoid rom. Due to dpi (213), my eyes was easy to get tired and decided to move back to samsung rom with original setting and now everything seems fine even though I sometimes miss tablet interface.
Now I am using new ipad as tablet and I am very happy now. Bigger screen and feel like I am reading text on paper. I do also have a logitech unltrathin keyboard and I can use it as bluetooth keyboard and front cover as well. It is much sharper than galaxy note screen. I am planning to have a data share plan so I can use my new ipad as LTE tablet !
It is all about preference but I do prefer to have a tablet separately due to size of screen and comport for my eyes.
Hope you can find this useful

There is good Android tablet hardware, but tablet software...not so much. However, with the popularity of the Nexus 7, I suspect that will soon change as developers will produce tablet apps.

Galaxy note 8.0

Officially announced on their Facebook page, with pix...
Looks like a giant Note II
And here on their home page.
What you guys think? I want one!
Spec wise it's almost identical, so i don't think i would get one. Note 10.1 is enough for me

I WILL have one.. Oh yes, I will...
It's got the home button from the phone though. That was one of the things that people hated about the Note 2 compared to the Note 1: having to push a mechanical button instead of a capacitive home button meant having to change to a finger push instead of a stylus poke.
The design, at least to me, is kind of stupid. Android on a tablet doesn't do well in portrait and widgets end up squished to fit. Using the Note 8 in landscape is going to be challenging because of the button placement and types of buttons Samsung decided to use. And having what appears to be a single front-facing speaker is a step back from the Note 10.1. It's just my opinion but having less than a 10" tablet kind of defeats the purpose especially with S Note and multiview. I'm sure it'll sell well though.
I just hope we get some of the new features like Awesome Note (Samsung has a one year Android exclusive) and the addition of TV Discovery to Peal to pull in Netflix and Hulu content.
I waited for Note 8.0 thinking it would be just like Note 10.1 but smaller. But it is more like a bigger version of Note 2 but with poorer camera. Meh.
Samsung - this is an enlarged phone, not a proper tablet.
I don't have a Note 10.1, since I really don't want to drop 400-500 on a tablet anytime soon as I did with the Thinkpad Tablet, and that was a huge mistake. As far as I've seen, this tablet is a lot better, but I think the price point of this 8.0 tablet might be appealing. We'll see, I guess.
Anyone think a second version of the 10.1 tablet is due as well, in the near future at least?
im still thinking if this will be a good backup phone from the Note 10.1 or i might settle for the Nexus 4. but ever since the rumors about the Note 8 came out, i am so into it.
we will see when it is out in stores.
=)

Would love to know that the reading mode would do to the screen
Well the Note 8.0 solves THE big knock on the Note 10.1 - lousy PPI. Because of the smaller form factor the PPI goes up by almost 50 points. That's enough to make a real difference. Also thumb typing in portrait will be much more comfortable. It will also have a large enough screen to handwrite in portrait (unlike the Note 2).
One side benefit of this is that the Note 10.1 will get cheaper. BestBuy has it for $449 today. First time I've seen it on sale there.
Last point. Note 10.1 will now get better software.
I expect the Note 8.0 to be wildly popular and honestly the tablet the Note 10.1 was meant to be.
MWC is on so keep your favorite tech sites bookmarked and check them frequently for all the mobile news out of Spain this week. 7-inch tablets will be big this year. Today, Engadget is reporting on 3 new 7-inchers being shown at MWC--1 by HP that will be priced at $169 USD (not breathtaking specs on it) and 2 by Lenovo. It will be interesting to see if a 3G international version of the note 8 with dialing capabilities will be announced at the official unveiling at MWC. As many have noted, the speaker placement looks similar to the note 2, leading to speculation that some models might have phone capabilities.
I don't see a point why a Note 10.1 user should consider buying this tablet. Of course, dpi is lousy and i won't deny it, it just sucks. But that's one point - the Note 10.1 is a full-fledged android tablet. Landscape oriented, great software, enough power to maintain the upcoming years and some great features like stereo frontfacing speakers.
The Note 8.0 is a LOT more specified and in my opinion it wants to appeal a bit more professional users than most who bought the Note 10.1. I bought it for studying, it'll do a great job then. But i also wanted a multimedia tablet i can use at home, i think the Note 8.0 will have difficulties in that. It's too much different from standard android tablets.
I hoped for the Note 10.1 to get cheaper before i bought it (i waited for almost 2 months) but finally couldn't resist it anymore. I wouldn't buy the Note 8.0 anyway.

Alright I didn't read Engadet yesterday afternoon and noe see that they've got a preview if the note 8 up and the internaltional 3G version will be able to make phone calls. The article contains a video, too. http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/23/samsung-galaxy-note-8-preview/
I hate that they put the speakers on the bottom?

The Wi-Fi version won't and the U.S. and Canada won't be offered a 3G version. And probably in the countries that offer both more than half sold will be Wi-Fi only because people don’t want to have to buy 3G data. The N8000's a phone too but still survives without looking like a giant Note II including hard and soft buttons that are difficult to use in landscape and a single speaker. Do you honestly see anyone with a Note 8 holding it to their ear for phone calls?

It's just the classic comparison of a 7/8" tablet vs. a 10" tablet. It's no different than comparing the N7 and N10; they are meant for two different market segments. The Note 8's going after the iPad Mini, not the Note 10.1. I agree about the better PPI between the Note 8 and 10 but because of the extra screen real estate you'd typically hold the Note 10 further away minimizing the impact. 10" high-end Android tablets have never sold particularly well because their price points are too close to the iPad and with that the masses tend to go for the original. If I was shopping for a tablet today I'd still buy the Note 10.1 in spite of its PPI because of its features. I like that it's designed to be used in landscape and the extra display space makes productivity stuff tons easier than working with a 7/8" tablet. But, to your point, based on size, price, and volume in the 7/8" space the Note 8 will easily outsell the Note 10.1. And I don't think Samsung cares one way or the other. The only thing I'll give my Note 10.1 up for is a Note the same size or larger with a FHD display. Purely my personal opinion of course.
Its pretty much the same tablet. Ill wait another year or atleast until tech advances enough to justify dropping another 500+ for a tablet. And when that happens, it will probably be a nexus
I also find the resolution on the Samsung devices pretty poor :crying: I wish Samsung would bump them up!

higher dpi sounds great, just remember it means more work for the battery and cpu, I believe the wacom digitizer and resolution need to match also. personally I cannot sacrifice screen real estate, annotating blue prints requires a large screen for me. would love something in the 11.6 range. but I do believe they have different audiences, (I never believe in a one size fits all approach) probably get the little lady one, call it the " lady note"
I only want one cuz it's sexy. That and I'm a sucker for ads lol.
Realistically this could never replace my Note 10.1.

have barely touched my s4 since getting this tablet

What a great device. And its a shame that some people maybe put off by the some of the pathetic reviews ive read on this device. Its stunning.
My s4 is faster. Higher res screen etc. But when it comes to browsing video etc theres no substitute for real estate.
Please dont listen to these bad reviews written by apple twats. If your in the market for a 10in tablet. You will love this
Lol I know what you mean I got my note 10.1 right after I got my s3 I love it the s pen, main reason I got the note over the n10

Have to totally agree as well. Was about to get the Nexus 10 but I am really happy to get the Note 10.1. And the screen size and quality is more than fine for me...
This is the first time i have really used a tablet for my various hobbies. The Spen magic is great as well.
I just wish we get the Android updates for multiuser feature and bluetooth 4 LE support
i can't live without this tablet, take it everywhere i go i love the note series.
yeah, love it so much, and now, i'm running on ReVolt ROM and love it much more ^^
I completely ignored the reviews about the note 10.1, so many complaints about the screen being poor etc, what a load of tosh that is, there's bugger all wrong with it imo. I picked the note 10.1 over the nexus 10 and I don't regret that decision one bit!

Snagged mine on eBay for £204 about 3 months ago, it's everything I need in a tablet.... I came from the tab 7.7 with the amoled screen which was lovely but still prefer the note 10.1 as more horsepower and bigger screen = happy gingerdude + with my note 2 gives me everything on the go.
To those who say screen is poor, try it for yourself is more than ok.

Couldn't agree more... just got my Note 10.1 a few weeks back - had been debating upgrading my original Tab 10.1 for a N10. I'm so happy I didn't - not sure where most of the bad reviews come from: screen is fantastic, the device is super-responsive, feels great in the hand and well-built, expandable memory (running a 64GB card in my 32GB Note = all the space I could ask for) - and for someone that uses his tablet like a notebook, the pen is fantastic to work with... Highly recommended. :victory:
What would make this Tablet permanently on my person, is if it could Seperate into 2, for portability. The 2nd half of the screen could serve as a giant battery, or the 2 halves could have Bluetooth link to each other, so you could do a lot of new things tablets can't do, for (a light-hearted) example , PORTABLE BATTLESHIP GAME SET! XD lol. Just think how creative Samsung could be, once they make those flexible displays commercially available. Also, when Google Glass becomes reasonably priced (I don't think King Midas could even afford it right now), I think some really awesome usage integration between one's glasses, computer, smartphone, and tablet, is inevitably going to be one of the driving catylsts in how commercially available tech will evolve/unfold.

About the screen: the only reason Samsung didn't make it on Par with competitors, is because they couldn't find any that could work well with the specialized Wacom digitizer (which is what makes the s-pen superior to a magic wand XD), while also being cost effective. It's a tradeoff that anyone who goes this tablet a fair try, wouldn't care less about. Friggin' Apple extremists think the iPad screen makes photos look better than looking at something in person with your own eyes. Lol.
Opposite for me. I got my S4 and now I use my tablet less. It's not because it's a bad tablet, it's just that it's easier to whip out the phone and browse sometimes. I use my tablet for lots of other important things though so it makes up for that..
i sold my gn10.1 a few months back to get the ativ 500t and 700t. there isn't a day that goes by that i don't miss it. i've almost bit the bullet a few times and gotten a refurb for $300 (i've seen the refurb 32 for ~$350). i really wanna wait to see if they come out with a bigger screen, but i really miss my gn10.1. i missed it so bad that i bought a gn8 to fill the gap that will be left after i sell my nook hd+.
it was the greatest tablet i've owned and thought i'd finally found one that i'd keep for more than a year. windows is great since i can play just about any format and have an alternate selection of games (can't say better b/c that's subjective) and i love the bigger screen. i do hate that windows desktop isn't very finger friendly and that modern ui sucks so badly.
maybe i'll cave it and get another. hopefully i can tame the desire and wait a few months to see how much the ativ q will be or how big the new galaxy note tablets will be.

I just got a Galaxy S4 about a week and a half ago. I find myself using both my Note 10.1 and S4 about equally but for different things, for productivity apps, such as the S-pen apps and office apps, the real estate of the 10.1 can't be beat. for speed, fast browsing and social apps I lean toward the S4. One note though, the S4 just came out with an update that lets you move apps to SDcard, which the 10.1 does not have (hopefully it will come in a future update), however this update locks the bootloaders so that the S4 then cannot be rooted (as of yet!).
Same here. Galaxy Note and S4. In many ways they compliment each other. S-notes automatically show up on S-memo (albeit read only) and reverse also. S4 is always there when Note is not practical. Note wins for meetings. S4 wins waiting for the airplane door to close, and riding in the car.
I even got the small point stylus (ikross brand) designed for the S4 and it works nicely.
In geek heaven here .
