[Q] Does ClockWorkMod Recovery Backup includes Baseband? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry for my poor English,,,
I make a backup by ClockWorkMod Recovery, it create a folder that named "clockworkmod/backup/2010**" on SD-Card, this folder contains some files as follow :
boot.img
cache.ext3.tar
data.ext3.tar
nandroid.md5
system.ext3.tar
my question is, Does ClockWorkMod Recovery Backup Files includes Baseband ?
Thanks!

The baseband files are stored in system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default. Since the system partition (system.ext3.tar) is backed up it will restore also the baseband files.

yeah, and if for some reason you loose it, baseband switcher it's the answer!

The problem is that you won't find the baseband from all the coutries, Mexico for example, I cant find IUSACELL's baseband for Mexico, and I have to be trying with Colombian, or Brazilian Basebands. Which sometimes they work, but just for a litle while, and then I have to look for a diferent one again because my Defy somehow looses signal.
So i went back to my original SBF that has the original Baseband,
//smackdroid.blogspot.mx/2012/03/actualiza-tu-motorola-defy-android-23.html
and still haven't found a way to BACKUP the original BASEBAND...
Any help would be thanked...

[Q] Restore 2.3.5 System nandroid

My question is simple: Can I restore only the 2.3.5 System nandroid backup (BL5) over a Defy+ width a 2.3.6 full SBF (BL7)?
No you cannot downgrade..

Even if just select the system partition to restore?
My problem is that the Defy's USB port is broken. As the phone is still under warranty and I got it from an operator (Movistar Spain) I want sent for repair with an official ROM but I have only 2 backups:
A backup of the original ROM (2.3.5 BL5 Movistar Spain)
A backup of the current ROM (2.3.6 BL7 EU Retail - NOT Movistar Spain)
I've searched for a Movistar Spain 2.3.6 BL7 nandroid backup, but I can´t find any.
Do I have any other alternative to leave it as close as "official"?

I think you're stuck in your current ROM, the BL7 leaves you with no choices to back to your branded ROM, and did you searched if your brand releases a BL7 sbf?

Yes, Movistar Spain released a BL7 SBF, but as the Defy usb port is broken, I can´t flash it.
I think the only option I have is to get a Movistar Spain BL7 nandroid backup... but I can´t find it.

Well, that leaves with chances then, i think you can make a nandroid from the sbf, at least you can restore the system, CG39 file from the sbf... here is a post about that, maybe can help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031194

Uhmmm, it can be an option. I believe I can mount CG39 file as an ext2 loop file system in Linux and then package it in tar format and generate the MD5 sums so I can restore it with CWM.
I´ll try it tomorrow and I´ll write here the results.
Thanks for the idea.
It works!!!!!!!
Finally I created a nandroid backup from a SBF and restored it with CWM. The steps I did was:
Depack SBF with Motorola Android Firmware (De)packer by Skrilax_CZ 1.3
In linux, mount CG39.smb as ext3 loop file system over a folder named "system"
Package "system" folder in tar format (system.ext3.tar)
Rename CG35.smg as boot.img
Rename CG47.smg as recovery.img
Rename CG61.smg as devtree.img
Calculate MD5 sums for the modified files (system.ext3.tar,boot.img,recovery.img and devtree.img)
Copy modified files over an existent CWM backup
update nandroid.md5 file with new calculated MD5s
Restore from Advance restore (I restored one by one and only system, boot, recovery and devtree)
Restart the phone
Now the Defy have the official version of the operator and without trace of sndinit or superuser (root), So I hope I will not have problems with warranty.
Thanks to all

MG9 to MG5 firmware, losing imei

Hi there,
I'm just wondering why my phone is losing its imei (or rather, its changing to the generic 0049xxx) after flashing the latest MG5 firmwares (I tried three different versions now). I first came from MG1, then flashed the MG9 when it came out. Now, when I flash any other firmware, my imei gets f'ed up.
I havent rooted my phone yet, I'm just flashing firmwares I downloaded from sammobile. Is it just because of this MG5 firmwares not being compatible? Will I still be able to flash newer firmwares when it goes out?
Thanks in advance, cheers!

I have downloaded the August version for the united arab emirates , it seems to see my imei , but whenever i lock the phone (or screen idle closes the display) 90% of times phone freezes and I need to restart it.
it seems that in the latest roms samsung(for S3,S4) change the efs structure ... thats why imei gets mess if you try to change rom after.but if you change the modem with old one it may works....
Gotcha thanks!

who flashed the MG9 firmware had their EFS partition modified.
So in case if you have to go back to earlier firmware you will have problems with IMEI. You have to:
- Restore EFS (that is backed up before this change) or
- Flash MG9 modem which can still read the modified EFS.
see here for modem collection http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025

Flashing or restoring efs backup doesnt work after flashing mg9.
You need to return to your firmware when you first get your phone out of the box with clean install and wiping everything in cwm before getting into download mode.
Then after flashing the firmware, root then restore efs backup.

so what is new
once you flashed the MG9, the efs partition format has been changed, so if you downgrade (regardless if to the original stock) you must restore the efs partition from the backup you made or just flash MG9 modem.

[Q] IMEI Failure

Hi Guys... semi noob here.
I have a gt-i9300 that I have been messing around with, and I seem to have lost the IMEI number, im getting004999010640000 / 06 when I dial *#06#. I have the actual IMEI behind the battery, but no idea how to put it back in
I am currently stock with root (cf auto)
Things ive tried:
EFS Pro - Just kept putting it in factory mode
NV-Items Read/Write v1.0 - Failed... phone does not answer
something I found on google using adb shell - did nothing at all
flashed many stock rom's / Modem's / RIL
TWRM Recovery wiped EVERYTHING to the point where twrm warned me about rebooting due to no OS installed
I am currently reverted to stock:
Build: JZO54K.I82XXELLA
Baseband: I9300NELK2
Kernel: 3.0.31-742798
Android: 4.1.2
Root: CF-Autoroot flashed with Odin 3.07
Branded and Simlocked with H3G (Three United Kingdom)
This is a UK model.
I really need some help here as I would like to get this up and running for carrier unlock (code requested from Three) so I can use my O2 sim in it)
PLEASE can anyone tell me how to get my IMEI back without a "box" (I don't have £130+ to spend!!!!)
Thanks in advance

If my memory serves me right you have to flash a stock firmware and you shoukd get your ime back

Did you flashed any 4.3 or 4.1.2 with new EFS partition format.. if so find that rom and install modem corresponding to that rom.
Also - do you have previously EFS backup?

I'm not sure but i think that you need to go back on 4.3 - i hope that you are made update to v2 of EFS during that previous flashing.

I believe I did go to EFS v2 at that point. Will flashing the 4.3 rom put my IMEI right again?
flashing 4.3 or a modem from emg4 onwards 4.3 changed the efs partition to efs v2 firwares with modems prior to emg4 cannot read this hence duff imei when you flash back an older stock rom.
Just back to 4.3 and all will be fine. If u didnt make backup of EFS v1 you cant back to 4.1.2

well, just flashed back to 4.3 stock (no root, full details below) and still false IMEI. I am assuming that until I get my IMEI back, the I9300 won't connect to the network at all?
Device details:
Android: 4.3
Build: JSS15J.I9300XXUGMJ9
Baseband: I9300XXUGMJ9
Kernel: 3.0.31-1902166
IMEI: 004999010640000
IMEI SV: 01
Flashed to 4.3 stock, then boot into recovery, factory reset and wiped cache
any other ideas?

[Q] IMEI lost ater installing a custom kernel

Hello guys i've installed merruk kernel 2.0 pre-final and my imei is blank. It don't recognize my sim card. I've made a full backup in CWM but it not worked. I want to revert ext4.zip process and install my stock kernel that i have a backup, is't possible? Will it restore my IMEI?
most likely the ril is not compatible with your baseband
I keep saying you cant use an old kernel with a new firmware baseband or you will loose imei
you can solve this by replacing the ril lib with an old baseband version
see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52449987&postcount=232
try the hyp 8 ril - you can try others if you wish
if you want to return to stock you will have to flash stock rom via odin to convert your system from ext back to rfs
see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568853
you can then restore your stock nandroid backup as long as you restore it using the kernel and cwm from which it was made on

My current ROM is the stock rom of S5360B, how do i do it without brick my phone in this case? what other methods should i try to restore my IMEI if this method not work?
Current ROM info:
Model: GT-S5360B
Version: Android 2.3.6
Product Code: ZTO
PDA: S5360BUTME2
CSC: S5360BZTOMJ1
MODEM: S5360BUTNA1
The GT-S5360B is exactly the same phone as a normal GT-S5360. It will work without much problems (if any), and it most probably won't brick your phone. Flash the zip for your baseband as per nornal (remember to mount /system)
Any other methods? I'm not too sure, apart from using Galaxy Toolbox to check your efs partition is damaged and backing up your efs partition.

no difference - you can flash 5360 on a 5360b if you want to
the only difference is the B version is branded varient of the 5360
you can use any file you like from the 5360 without any problems plus if you really want the 5360b firmware to flash stock rom via odin at a later date its also on my firmware thread
Ok, I'll try to install the stock rom via odin, hope it works . I have a doubt, I ran the ext4 converter. have i to follow this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007720 or can i install without re-partition?
If it not working, what ril fix file can i use for my phone?
I'll update the result here.

Never tick repartition in odin
all you have to do is flash pda modem and csc - DO NOT tick anything extra
your phone will convert back to rfs from ext if you flash stock rom via odiin
I posted a load of rils from different basebands in post #2 of this thread - you can use what ever one you want - ril is dependant on rom firmware and kernel being used

It worked! I've installed the stock rom and my IMEI is showing and the sim card is ok. Thank you all. But i have one more question:
I don't intend to continue with stock rom and stock kernel. What should i do to prevent this error occur by installing any custom rom or custom kernel? I've heard that i have to backup the efs, but the efs folder is always blank on galaxy y.

the efs partition is empty on galaxy y because that partition is not mounted
you can backup your efs partition with galaxy toolbox but that wont help you with the problem you had
I keep saying its to do with the ril - you cant use an old kernel with a new firmware and vise versa
to solve this if you use an old kernel with a new firmware replace the ril lib of the new firmware with one from an old firmware

HUGE problem with imei. please help

i didn't have an imei on my i9500 for some reason so i flashed a leaked 5.0.1 rom on my i9500 which fixed my imei issue. everything was working (calls etc). since you can't flash gapps on this rom for some reason i switched back to a stock rom and saw that my imei and baseband version were gone again. after some digging i found out that this was an efs file issue, so after (literally) 16 hours i finally fixed it by flashing the 5.0.1 leak with philz touch, backing up my efs file, and flashing a custom rom (hassan rom v7) and my imei appeared again. i wanted to go back to stock 4.4.2 touchwiz so i tried to flash it again but it gave me a fail. and when i tried again it succeeded but my imei was gone again after some more digging a found out that the 5.0.1 was a chinese rom and changed my model name to i9500chn, and they imei worked only when that was my model name.
so now i'm kinda stuck on hassan rom and my phones model is i9500chn. even though i backup my efs folder successfully, if i flash another rom that changes my phone to i9500 it removes my imei and the efs backups won't help (restore is successful but doesn't work).
what can i do in this situation??

hi mate
Is hard to tell what went wrong ... what i would first of all is trying to go back a a normal stock (not leaked) but not sure if there will be any problem from going back to 4.4.2 from 5.0.1
Check here

First thing i would do is trying to get rid of the chinese PIT from the leaked rom , what is the size of your internal SDm non chinese are around 8-9 gb , try to flash a stock rom (4.4.2) with a PIT file shown in thread , the second one
File Type: zip I9500_pit file.zip - [Click for QR Code] (1.0 KB, 22777 views)
READ FIRST, BACKUP and then proceed
Once you are back in stock ...you can start over
