How to preform a Hard Rest to "Out of the Box" status - Galaxy S II General

Ok, for those of you who want/need to wipe your phone so that it deletes EVERYTHING so that you get it back to your "Out of the Box" status. I have the answer!
First: Back up What ever you want/need to back up.
Then: MAKE SURE YOU BACKED UP WHAT YOU WANT/NEED!!!!!
DOUBLE CHECK AND MAKE SURE YOU SAVED YOUR STUFF!!-Did I make myself clear that you will LOSE EVERYTHING!!!
Read This: T-Mobile Support Community: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2500
To do another reset, that will possibly leave some cache on the phone ( I know this, as I have done it and it left info on it).
Follow these directions:
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available).
To perform a hard reset, follow these steps.
1. Back up all necessary data that is on the internal memory. See: Back up device files: Samsung Galaxy S II
2. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap Privacy.
5. Tap to clear the Backup my data an Automatic restore check boxes, if desired. (you might have to clear Automatic Restore first, the Back my Data)
6. Tap Factory data reset.
7. Tap Reset phone.
8. Tap Erase everything.
9. If prompted, enter the password.
· Note: The default password is 1234.
10. Tap OK.
11. If necessary, enter and confirm the password again.
12. Tap OK.
With that all said and done, now to the Good way to Really reset your device.
First: MAKE SURE YOU SAVE WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO SAVE!! I backed up my folders and my SD card just in case, using Samsung Kies found Here: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
Bare with me, as I am doing this from memory. I performed it like 3 times yesterday.
1. Start with the phone powered off.
2. Hold the followling 3 buttons all at once starting in this order, Sound UP, Sound Down and Power. (Yes, you will need to use 2 hands).
3. Once the Samsung Android Screen pops up (the second Samsung Screen) release the Power button and keep holding the Volume Down. You will get a bunch of commands (like 4 or 5), First I chose to wipe my Cache, then I chose the option to "Factory Reset Out of the Box" Status. To move where you want to go, simply use the volume up and down. Then to select the item you want, touch your HOME key on the bottom of the phone.
That's it!! You now have your phone back to the first day you bought it. If you didn't back up your apps, they you just have to spend time reinstalling them all over again..
When you start by setting it up, don't allow it to restore your info/settings. I think it's like the 3rd or 4th screen after you touch the Android to start setting it up. Just unclick the box's...or box..like I said, I did it over 24 hrs ago, and more than once...testing it out each time for different things..This one way made sure everthing was gone and I started out fresh.
Hope this helps!!

Well you can just type *2767*3855# in keypad and those 12 steps will be done in one

No it won't. I know that because I had to give O2 my Galaxy S2 to change my defect display. I already had rooted it and therefore the "custom-download-counter" wasn't 0 again. In order to get a flashed/rooted phone back to the "out of the box status" you need to:
1. Install a stock firmware & kernel
2. Perform a hard reset*
3. Use a special "USB-Jig" to reset the counter.
* I used the number, then removed the folders/files like "MIUI" and the images of the custom-roms I flashed. Then I bored into the recovery and cleared the cache.

I confirm that this the only way to reset to out of the box, especially on custom kernels or root
You need to flash a full ROM through the new JIG cable not the old JIG. Old JIG won't reset counter
Be aware, most new ROMs here include old SBL and not the original to avoid the old JIG blacklisting
Better use an untouched "one file" ROM from samfirmware or grab your own ROM from Kies temps folder while it updates your phone
I personally like this way:
1- Use Odin through new JIG to flash an old official untouched ROM, 2.2.1 or older
2- Use KIES to originally update to the last official firmware, disable backup phone during this step
3- Hard reset and format internal SD card

They won't bother to check if it's the new bootloader or old bootloader. Why do you guys like to make things complicated. Occam's razor.
Also, unless Ben has updated Heimdall with the info I passed along from Odia or we get a new version of Odin, even if you use an integrated Jig cable the counter will not reset.
Simple way to get fully reset:
1. Flash desired firmware and reboot
2. Dial *2767*3855#
Job done.

[Guide] Revert back to Original Stock Rom With Kies

Hi to all. This is a very simple guide to revert back to the Stock rom that came with your phone.
Odin is not needed, also no special skills needed. All you need is a PC with Samsung Kies installed.
Kies is best to be updated to latest version. latest one is 08-01-2013
So, let's start. If you were rooted and the custom binary counter has increased, please use TriangleAway prior to this guide.
1-) Open up Kies with phone disconnected, but keep it powered up cause you will need it for the serial number.
2-)Navigate here (tools) (picture 1) and select the 3d option (software upgarade and preparation). you will get this Enter GT-N7100 press confirm.
3-) enter your phones serial number(picture 3) wich you can find either under the battery or by navigating to yout phone Settings- About device- Status- Serial
Number. Press confirm. after pressing confirm you will be presented with a dialog which lets you know that the device will be wiped. Press Confirm again.
4-) you will now be presented with the version (picture4, it is for my phone. you will have maybe other) that is the latest for your phone and your serial number. press confirm and wait for the first download (picture5). wait till it finishes.
5-)in the next screen (picture 6) read and select Agree. put your phone in download mode by pressing volume down+ home button+ power on. do not release the buttons till the phone is in the screen that tells about warning. press volume up.
connect phone to PC and press down at Start Update button.
this will take a while to download cause the update is about 1GB.
wait till it finishes and phone boot up.
Set up as usual.
Hope it helps.
Wow, thanks!
I hust have a question about this, for example, if i ever want to rollback to carrier stock ROM, i should follow the steps above? If we do this, are we going to enable OTA carrier updates as long as we don't root the phone, right?
Thanks!

you are correct. in both questions:laugh:
Do you think this procedure would work with a Note 10.1?
Ive triangled away, so the download screen says its official
But its still rooted, this seems a very simple and effective way to remove all traces of changes

Thanks... This is good to know. Question though... I live in Canada and my device was a UK version that I bought from a store here in Edmonton, Alberta. That being said... Will Kies be able to find my proper STOCK firmware given my location or does it find it based soley on the serial number?
It finds it base on serial number. If is is a UK device it will install the latest one for the specific serial number and UK.

I recently rooted my S3 i747 and then installed cyanogenmod 10. Keep in mind I am not a wiz at doing these things, however it did work. Here in lies my problems. 1. I hate this OS with a passion. Its just not what i thought it would be so I would love nothing more than to figure out how to remove it and return to stock firmware or another custom rom. 2. If i stay with this rom (for not being able to figure out how to remove it and install another) I am running out of storage internally. Its a great possibility I could have done something wrong. so with that being said, can anyone help me? I have tried more websites than I care to. thanks so much!

edit... Pull the battery on your phone and put it back in. Hold up vol, home button and Power till you see the little words in the top left corner. It should say booting recovery really small. at that point take your finger off of the power button only and it will boot into Recovery.
If you have CWM recovery or TWRP you are golden...
Or else... see below
Find your phone in it's section you should be able to find a method using Odin to flash it back to stock and then you can read up and find the way to do everything you want.
Just do your research and look through the forum for your phone type/carrier and you should be able to find all of the information that you are looking for.
Search and you shall succeed!

The only thing you have to do is to go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares. Then put your phone number i9100 in the search box and choose any of the roms below. They are all stock, 2.3/4.x.x etc. The rom is in a zip file, however, you have to extract the tar file inside it.
Power off your phone then, while holding vol down, press and hold power.
Open odin in your pc then connect the phone to pc while being in download mode. press the pda button in odin and insert the .tar rom whoch you have just extracted. press start and you are done.

[Q] Serious help needed

My phone is now a brick. Here is what I did...
1, rooted it with motochopper, back it up with CWM in my ROM(I'm stupid enough not to copy it to a computer)
2, trying to enable tethering, so I download some zip file and update with CWM
3, GS4 won't start up, stuck in logo screen forever,
4, can't reboot to CWM, can only reboot to factory debug screen,
5, did clear cache, factory reset, nothing works.
6, I think I can use Odin to flash to factory ROM
Question:
I really need my photo in my phone, how do I get them? Do you think the photos are gone because I did 'factory reset'
If that's the case, do you think the 'backup' from CWM is gone as well?, if not, how do I get it?
Greatly appreciated!!

Just a small advice.
Usually, the S4 buyers received a Dropbox upgrade for two years. If you don't use Dropbox, you should start.
Enabling Camera Upload to Dropbox on your phone can prove the easiest and smartest way to keep a backup of your photos, so if you get in trouble in the future, your photos are safe.

[Q] Rooted, CM 10.1, clean rom, now stuck...need help!

Hey, I could really use some guidance here. I'll present the information as simply as I can:
I bought a Galaxy s4 AT&T a few days ago. I've been interested in rooting and flashing different roms, but I think I may have done a bit too much.
I rooted using the motochopper method - great, worked like a charm.
I made a backup of my original rom using CWM. I even took that backup and saved a copy of it on my Mac - perfect.
I thought I'd try Cyanogenmod 10.1, so I downloaded the latest nightly build and flashed it using CWM - so far so good.
Everything was working fine, but my LTE (or any data) was not working at all. I could use Wifi, but once I turned wifi off, I had no data, no gps, no 3g, no 4g, no LTE. I tried the *#*#4636*#*# method, the LTEOnOff app, and changing my APN based on the recommendations provided in this thread - I just couldn't get it to work.
I thought I'd try restoring my original backup, but when I went into CWM to do so, it said that my backup could not be found...(I still have a backup on my computer, just in case)
I needed my phone to work, and badly needed LTE to do so. So, I downloaded this rom: [ROM] CleanROM 1.0 -★| Clean and Smooth! | The Way Nature Intended! |★-
So far, this rom was working fine - it's just a debloated version of TouchWiz - which I like. But, here's my problem now - If my phone reboots, it stays frozen on the Samsung logo (with unlocked lock logo underneath), and I can't get past it. I'd have to go BACK into recovery, and flash the CleanROM all over again, and set my phone up as new with all data wiped.
I really need my phone to work again, and I don't know where to go from here. What options do I have left? What can I do to get out of that frozen Samsung loading screen? Can't I just reset my phone to the way it was? Can't the CM10.1 rom work with LTE?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Your best option is to flash the stock MDB firmware via odin . After you get the PASS on Odin go ahead and manually boot into stock recovery and wipe data factory reset again then reboot. You will have to re root and reinstall recovery but this will take care of any issues you had from a bad flash.

Having the same issue so I figured I'd give these steps a shot. Followed them exactly and phone (AT&T S4, TWRP) would won't even reboot the first time into CleanROM. I'm stuck on the Samsung screen with the lock.
edit: I've noticed that now, when I reboot into TWRP, it prompts me for a password. Hitting cancel takes me to the regular home screen, but I had not been getting the password prompt before attempting to install CleanROM. A permissions issue, perhaps?
edit 2:

Your best option is to flash the stock MDB firmware via odin . After you get the PASS on Odin go ahead and manually boot into stock recovery and wipe data factory reset again then reboot. You will have to re root and reinstall recovery but this will take care of any issues you had from a bad flash.

I can't speak for OP, but I was hoping there was another way to rectify what has already been done without flashing stock seeing as how I'm on OSX. If that's the only option, then so be it.
Hey. Thanks for the feedback in this thread. I flashed factory through Odin, and everything is working fine. I then factory reset my phone through factory recovery. I'm back to standard touchwiz with all the bloat lol.
I'm going to wait until there a more stable release of cm10.1 - that was a good rom.
Appreciate all the help people!

Your best bet is do what "cataligh" mentioned... flash back to stock via odin...

When you flashed cm10 it probably wipe the internal sdcard, you should ALWAYS do you backups to the extsdcard...period.

As I mentioned before starting over is always the Best and Safe way to go. Shortcuts will only cause you headaches and possibly get you a brick that is why you see Odin stock threads. Do yourself a favor and start over I know it sucks but when your modifying your phones its gonna happen once in awhile.

Wise words. Took your advice, installed Windows with boot camp, and got back to stock via odin.
I am going to say something about this thread, we are all giving advice on how to do this and that, and not once is it mentioned anywhere....in the OP

Yeah, data was enabled - and I was using ATT LTE apn settings that I found on these forums. I made sure to use the right now. Plus, when I rebooted my phone, it got stuck on the Samsung lock screen again...
Juuuuust ODINed back to factory right now for the second time :crying:
Was it these settings:

Yes, those were the exact settings that I used. Is it possible that I could have a defective phone or sim card?
Right now, I am on factory touchwiz with root enabled, and my phone is working perfectly fine. I can reboot, use LTE, everything. The problem starts when I load any CM or AOKP rom...

Galaxy Note 3 Stuck at Verizon logo!

Help! My Galaxy Note 3 is stuck on the Verizon logo! I downloaded this app:"font installer root" to install the default Roboto font on my phone and now it is stuck on the verizon logo after I rebooted to install it! I rooted my phone with kingo a while ago. Also the light on the top is blue.

Yikes. Sounds like a locked bootloader. Verizon likes to throw in as many security checks as possible in their ****ed bootloaders I am so sick of their shet. Sorry I have a Note 2 on Verizon and I can't get a recovery on here I've bricked it 3 times now and just gave up trying. I am still on 4.1.2 yet Triangleaway never actually solved the problem. I can't wait to get off their stupid contract I am never using them again.
Sorry that I can't really answer your question atm but I can look into it here after I calm down.

No need to panic. There are several ways to return back to normal. Did you install safe strap once you rooted? If so, pull battery out, replace and reboot into safestrap. Click the wipe setting and then you wipe settings to an operable state of operation.

Actually, thought of something easier. Before you power phone up... hold the menu button, volume up button and then push power button together while still holding the other 2 buttons. This will start the phone up in recovery mode. Do a factory reset from this screen. You will lose your app data however you can recover the apps via Google play store. This way you'll also keep root. Doing the Odin recovery will lose root and restore to fresh out of box condition.

But I don't want to lose my apps. I got some of them from other app stores and i have screenshots on my phone(my pictures are on my SD card), is there any way I can at least get some data of my phone?
did you try to just reboot and wait it out?

Question for you. Before you do any of this, did you try and reboot again and see what happens? Sometimes the phone does certain system checks via boot and may require a couple of minutes to do its thing. I would do this before you factory reset. Maybe it needs a moment or two. Give that a try before you do anything that will compromise your data and apps.

I turned it on with and without the sd card and no luck. let it run for 20 minutes to an hour on the verizon screen and nothing works. I just want to get at least some data off it. When I plug it in It detects it as SAMSUNG_Android and I can't access it. I only made one data backup back on 1/1/2014.

Looks like you may need to do a reset. Then, once you are reset install backup. This way you'll have some of those apps. Also, factory wipe will not delete SD card.
Yo, even *IF* you accidentally wipe your data, you're not completely out of luck. Once you get your device up and running again, I saw a guide on here once on how to mount your phone's internal nand as a harddrive on Windows and use one of those data forensic tools to recover all the deleted data. This may not work for some of your apps but you *will* get all of your screenshots/pictures/whatever files back! If ya want a can go back and look for this.

You're in luck, I found a boatload of forums you can look at! The popular choice among these is using Recuva, but all are different ways to go about it. Check these out:
Root app methods/Recuva Basics (NOOB FRIENDLY): http://www.alliance-rom.com/wiki/recover-deleted-files/
XDA Method (Windows): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
MuhammadAG method (Linux): http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/mounting-your-android-devices-internal-storage/
My suggestion (Try this first with Recuva): Flash your phone back to stock, reroot (using Framaroot or other non-invasive method), get terminal emulator (*NOT* through Play Store, don't even set up Google accounts, this will potentially overwrite data), in emulator get su and type "setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage" and see if that pops the cap. Samsung is stubborn tho and will not usually let this one fly. It might fly if you happen to install some other than stock rom.
Sorry that this is a lot of info... weigh your options!!
Best of luck,
Please do say thanks!
