[TIP] You can pinch zoom while using the camera - Galaxy S II General

Hi
Sorry if this is a double post. I could not find the original tips and tricks thread. So posting a new.
Here is what I found out. When using the camera for taking a picture or recording the video, you can use the pinch multi touch thing to zoom in and out while recording/before taking the picture, instead of using the volume key or the zoom slider.
Found out today and it made my day lol XD :-D Handy eh?

thanks for the tip mate i wasn't aware of this myself

I just found out about that too.. Heh.
Anyway, digital zoom sucks, please avoid it.

Haha yeah. Agree it sucks. I might say doesn't matter getting eaten by a tiger when shooting its whiskers than having a pixelated image
Edit: sorry for the double post. Thought I could merge them later.

Is there a way to zoom in with the camera.

I know you can zoom in on a picture that you have already taken. Is there a way to zoom in before you take a picture?
Use the volume rocker to zoom in and out. You have up to 4x digital zoom with the Vibrant's camera.

Oh man, thank you so much.
Digital zoom is never as good as enlarging with something like Photoshop.

Maybe not. But it is a whole lot simpler, faster, and less expensive.

Photoshop probably uses a better process, but it would be slower. But it's a cell phone camera, I doubt you would be able to tell the difference.
Sweeet thanks for this info bro
Awesome, never knew that. This should be included in the sticky.
good find though, pm the tips and tricks guy to include this in his post. MY VIBRANT SHOULD BE COMING IN THE MAIL IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS

Exactly. Doing the enlargement/cropping after you take the photo gives you a better quality image and more options for cropping.
If you care about that sort of thing.
Images are my living, so I sort of do.
digital zoom is the devil.

Post your pictures taken with your Android HD2

So after a search, I did not find a thread on this yet...How are your photos looking.
Be sure to post what camera app you are using.
All of mine are taken using Vignette...none of these have any filters applied...camera is set to 5MP
Youre pictures look awesome for a cell phone. Here are some of the pics I have taken with my HD2. I'm running Android and using the default settings in Android, except for the 1st picture. That was taken using the pano option in Windows Mobile.
And a short video clip.

Does that app take pics in full widescreen like the WinMo Camera does?

Yes it does sort of...you can select to crop the photo to fit the phones resolution so when you view it in the gallery, it fills 100% of the screen as winmo did.

wow, have you edited the photos?
what settings did you used?
Sorry for not posting pics, but just wondering, if any of you guys are using desire hd, or z roms? Reason being, when you record a video, do you notice as time passes, the video audio sync becomes more and more distorted. As in, the audio isn't aligned right to the video, as time goes on, and gets worse. Any of you guys had this experience?
Pretty sure it's a known problem
Personally, I don't make any videos. But I'm sure the de-synchronisation (Only in DHD and DZ) is a known problem, or was. Have you tried any new build or kernels?
Yup, new builds, and kernels. Well if it's just the builds then ah well, not like i fancy my self with taking videos anyways. One good thing about desire hd/z builds however, are they actually know how to do macro shots, instead of other builds where you gotta adjust it till it's just right.

These are my photos. Eheheheh. General settings is with sharpness +1. The ear phones one is in vignette, other than that one, it's no effects.
A photo I took as I was walking out off school.
And one on the walk home - nice lens flare action.

[Q] Arc Camera

Hi guys I just noticed that you cannot zoom in 8Mp and 6MP da Arc and was wondering whats the point of having such a good camera without that function..
I also noticed that no zooming in video mode which is ridiculous..
Are there any apps to overcome this problem??
Thanks
You can take picture & zoom it after taking it
Wow...wtf thats pretty ****ty...
I really hate digital zooming it destroys the beauty of the picture. the pictures are big so you can crop them on your pc. digital zoom is ****ty...
Yeah I know...I want to zoom before taking the image...Cannot zoom in video mode as well....

1. Move your body closer to the object(s).
2. Get a tele lens for your Arc.
Digital zooming is crap. I never used it on my old prosumer camera.

First, I found it ridiculous. But when remembering those blurr and low-quality photos on iPhone 4, I think Sony did a good job rather than fooling out customers.
Or use a third party software to zoom or crop.
well you can crop photos on the phone.. but I also think it would be good to have the zoom function on video tbh..

I really had to laugh while reading this thread. ^^
I wouldn't mind the digital zoom gone (as I agree with the crap quality point), but why did they put it into the app in the first place?
I had a look around the SE forums a week or so ago, and that was one of the threads i looked at. Two things sprang to mind:
(1) Dont bother looking on the SE forums for help. SE representatives/mods are utterly useless. Dont think i saw any of them post a useful answer to any question or problem, they only seem to be able to type either: "it sounds like a software problem, reinstall your firmware", or "i dont know anything about that".
(2) SE should have left the digital zoom in, because you can never underestimate the stupidity of your customers. I particularly loved the prize specimen who, after being given a comprehensive and accurate answer why there's no point in having digital zoom, says "i dont want a lecture, i just want my zoom!". Ignorant twat.
You're just so right...

Is this actually a question? No, there is no camera zoom. It's a mediocre 3MP lens. I can't imagine using it for anything besides reading QR codes. In any case, digital zoom on a phone camera is pretty awful; it's better just to take the picture and crop it later.

Yeah, the OG Tab didn't have it either. But, yeah, digital zoom is kind of sucky anyway and nothing that couldn't be done better with any simple editing tool.
Well I reckon it was a question.
I was wondering if mine was the only one.. maybe it was a bug on mine..
Anyways thanks for the replies..
Cropping a picture is a great idea .
Thanks for the tip.
Try camera ICS from market, it is free and has zoom along with many other options

Thanks for the review, I didn't know you could seperate the exposure and focus in pro mode like that (03:35), really useful!
