Found a potential data unthrottle solution!!?! - G2 and Desire Z General

First, a little bit about me that lead to how I came across this...
I work in the electronics department of a retail store, and when the days get slow I like to tether my G2 to the wifi enabled tv's and watch netflix with coworkers. I do this on almost a daily basis and burns through A LOT of data.
Of course after a few days I get the text message from T-Mobile after I get through my 5GB of (fake) unlimited data and will be slowed for the remainder of this billing cycle... This normally results in my downstream speeds going to a trickle of 7kb/s as apposed to my uncapped speeds of anywhere from 300kb/s to 1400kb/s.
So I have another job that I work on the days off sometimes and it's running deliveries. I use the navigation app to get to where ever it may be for work and sometimes my GPS doesn't like to locate me right away. When this happens at work, I start to panic (I don't know my way around town for sh*t) and try every solution on hand I can think of. I tried fixing permissions then network operator selections and eventually the GPS will locate me function just fine.
So I have never hit my cap while working my part time job doing deliveries, and have never really used the navigation app until I started working there and this is how I came across this uncapping of my data while trying to fix my gps, I went into wireless & network settings, then mobile networks, and select network operators, it does some searching for a bit then gives me the option for AT&T or T-Mobile, (I always just do select automatically) and after doing this, my data speeds return to normal... like I am still getting downloads at 600kb/s+.
According to the T-mobile "my account" app, I am at 7.26GB for this month.
(I will upload screens in a second for the naysayers)
Something about this network operator selection thing has the ability to unthrottle me everytime I go over my data. Not sure what actually happens behind the screens when I do this method but just thought I'd share in hopes that it may provide some help to others in a possible loop hole to the (fake) unlimited data issue a lot of us run into.
P.S. Noticed that the speedtest app always thinks I'm in Dallas TX every time I do the network operator unthrottle thing, when I actually live in the Chicago IL area.

Wow, this seems like a great find. finally we can maintain full speed over the month. Gonna definitely give this a try once my speed gets throttled. Thanks!

Just for safe measures before people start saying it's not working, I'd like to just make it known that I am currently running on CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-vision and using 2.6.35.13-UmaroV1.06+ kernel. Radio-26.03.02.26_M. Dunno if that affects anything in this department lol.
Also one thing I've noticed and forgot to mention...If I connect to a wifi network, once I have disconnected from it, my speeds are throttled again but doing the operator selection unthrottles it. This is the only thing I've noticed that reactivates the throttle but is still fixed in a matter of minutes.

Ill test this once I finish download battlefield 3 though I dont think Ill hit 5gb once done. Probably need another 1GB or so.

BTW to save data from navigating, you can enable a feature in Google Maps 'labs' to allow caching map data. After enabling it, long press on a location and tell it to cache, it'll then download a 10 square mile radius of that point and save it to your SDcard (you can cache multiple areas). Then it won't cost you data next time you load that map
Anyways, interesting find! I wonder if its because it kinda... re-registers your phone on the network, and you get a new address / spot on the network? Idk... I've only hit my 5gb once and I wasn't capped so I can't really check this often.

My guess is that Tmobile servers learned your usage statistic including your location, amount of data consumed, most connected APNs nearby and usage schedule. They then use those factors to throttle/filter the APN you are connected to the most. But once you "refresh" the apn list or the cache on your phone by searching for network operators, your phone is no longer "blacklisted"
But that is just my theory.

yep. I use map caching a lot when I'm going to be driving to/through like a rural area or a state park or something and I want a map, but won't have 3G (or even EDGE).

How did you get the My Account app working? This is what mine looks like
And when I press Menu > About it says Unsupported Device

I just downloaded it from the market. You're on tmobile right?

Yes, I'm on T-Mobile. But I'm on CM7 like you are, and CM7 already includes the app. Is downloading it from the market the only way to get it to work?

I just downloaded it from market. Don't think it was there when I installed CM7.

Yeah, we known about this for a while. Same thing happens when you switch apns (wap.voicestream.com for example). It just changes your ip on the network and will last for several hours or until you reboot. Its temporary but works good enough. Too bad my old one doesn't work anymore. Its all controlled server side now.

In the build.prop in /system, with any text editor, you just need to change this:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=vision (or whatever it says here)
to this:
ro.product.model=T-Mobile G2
ro.product.brand=tmobile
That's it. Reboot and it'll work just fine. I change it every time I update ROMs on CM.

The way I understood this: Once Throttled simply navigate to network operator settings and select your standard operator or reset your apn settings and you will at least for a certain limited time have unthrottled data?
At least as far as Berlin, Germany, network operator O2 goes: I cannot confirm that this actually works. (HTC Desire Z, latest Bulletproof MIUI rom).

Mine works on CM7 without editing build.prop about 90% of the time. Kinda weird people seem to have different results.

That's what I've been doing and it works great. Might just be a loop in the T-Mobile networks but I thought I'd share in case it wasn't brought to anyone's attention

Just to be sure I went for the latest nightly and tried again.
Made sure that I got new ip's. But still nothing. I guess that o2 germany simply handles throttling differently.
Thanks for sharing though, would've been nice if it worked.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

This didnt work for me. Im using MIUI Bulletproof ROM.
Although, right around the same time this thread was made, I went over the cap and still had full data speeds. It lasted 4-5 days I think.
I hit around 6.5 GB before I was finally throttled and that was around the end of Oct/beginning of Nov.

T-Mobile UK - 3G?

I've just got myself a Vario II as a replacement for my Vario. If I put the sim from my VBVario in, will my internet access automatically be 3G or do I need to ring someone? Is there a way to check?
Cheers.
If its a SIM issued in the last 2-3 years it should be fine. You will see a 'U' (or perhaps '3G' depending on ROM) instead of a G when you are in UMTS (3G) coverage.
You may or may not need to telephone them to get HSDPA turned on. The only way to see if this is working is to do a speed test (search this forum for url's) when in UMTS coverage.
Good tip that!
I have put my lovely T-mobile UK SIM into a new Orange SPV M3100. Speeds were going up to standard 3G level (384 kbps).
I rang T-mobile on 150 and found a human, eventually, and asked for HSPDA service to be enabled on my account which was done straight away. My next speed test got me neary 1 Mbit/s, so I'm happy!
Cool, thanks for the thanks
Hopefully you guys can help me out with this HSDPA related query on t-mobile.
I've just got my MDA VarioII (TyTN) and have taken the web'n'walk package with it for £7.50 per month.
I'm getting the 3G speeds of around 380kbps but started reading threads like this one and thought, crikey, I'll have me some of this HSDPA malarkey!
So I phoned t-mobile and asked them to activate the service on my account and after eventually getting passed to their technical department, I've been told that to get HSDPA you have to have either the web'n'walk plus or max package.
These are either £12.50pm or £22.50pm which is obviously a good bit more.
Can you confirm if yourselves have these packages or if you've been able to get HSDPA enabled on the standard web'n'walk?
Cheers
That's just them talking rubbish. I'm on the £7.50 WnW.
I had to argue for an hour on the phone, which got me nowhere, they were spouting crap about how I had to upgrade my plan. Even tech support was telling me this.
Afterwards I called back and luckily got put through to someone who actually knew what I was talking about. It took a second to have it enabled.
A lot of people have experienced that problem...so you just might as well. It seems we know more about the technology they're employing than the networks themselves...which is absolutely disgusting on T-Mobiles part.
Just remember...you're right, they're wrong.
Also...an easy way of checking is if you're signed up to My T-Mobile...you can check the additional services bit for 'HSDPA 384k Uplink' which should be enabled...after they enable it that is.

Totally correct.. I had the same problem only 4 days after taking out the new WnW account with my Vario 2. After 2 seperate phone calls I still had no luck so I told them the phone would be returned fully boxed as I was in my right as other peeps on the £7.50 WnW package had this enabled. After 4 hours they rang me back saying that it would be enabled as they didnt want to lose me as a new customer..
The moral of this story is...............PERSIST UNTIL THEY GET IT ENABLED...
It does make a lot of difference too..

Sounds like they're chancing their arm with this.
Apart from citing customers like yourselves are there any other arguments I can put to them in case they start to play hardball?
I've had my contract for a month now so I'm out of the 14 day cooling off period but it seems to me that this could be argued as a treating customers fairly issue...
I prefer to go into these battles with as much ammunition as possible!!

Just got my Vario2, called CS and they said HSDPA is already switched on, tried a speed test with dslreports, speed comes back in the low 300s?!
Also when it's downloading, the 3G sign doesn't change to a U or H (read in a few posts that it's supposed to?)
tmobile, and many other roms, sets it to stay as the 3G icon at all times.
HSDPA speeds are variable, though that is a little low - mine with 2bars reception at midnight just now got 1048kbps

3G is exactly the same as U. Just some ROMS have one, some the other.
In most WM6 ROMS the 3G will change to H when HSDPA is being used.
Other than doing a speedtest you can check whether HSDPA is working by using the fieldtest application.
Thanks for the info. What's fieldtest application & how do I use it? By the way it's a WM5 device, not WM6
Fieldest is the HTC engineer tool which shows advanced network stats (which you have to be a geek to understand, as they're not presented in a user-friendly way at all). It's available from the XDA Wiki.
T-Mobile are being covetous as to who gets HSDPA enabled now - unless you're a business customer it's probably 50/50 as to whether you can get it enabled on first call. I only got it enabled when I got through to a tech engineer as opposed to a regular CSR.
You can use the fit4cat Hermes Tweaker (from fit4cat.de, registration required) to check whether HSDPA is enabled on your phone or not. If it's not enabled you'll have to do the ring-and-pray with TM cust services.
any chance we could get a bit of a guide on how to ge t-mobile to enable it on your line?
I just tried them on 150, they said that it's not available on the flext 25 + wnw prices plan, apparently i'd have to upgrade to flext 35, is this true?
does anyone have it enabled on anything less than flext 25?
thanks, Forlornity
sorry for the triple post, but I've _apparently_ already got HSDPA enabled, but when I run a speed test on dslreports.com, it comes out with my speed being 44kbit/sec every time.
Is this due to something I don't know about?

Market/Gmail issues?

Is anyone else having issues with the Market/Gmail. I flashed several different roms and keep getting the "cannot establish a reliable data connection" message when trying to set up my gmail. I did hard resets, data resets, everything. Finally i did a nandroid restore so i can at least have my contacts and i still cant sync my gmail or get into the market. All other data and email accounts work fine.
i have been having issues with the market as well. Also if I search through google on my phone it will not do anything using search button and google web page will not load...
I too am having this issue. It just started for me last night. My brother is running stock on his EVO with no problem. I am on CM6 nightly (8/14) with snap kernel 7.1. I am about to flash the new CM6 release and hope that helps...
Yeah, I have flashed 3 or so roms today, and I even flashed my radios. I am currently running the stock (yet rooted) 2.2 for the EVO and still can not access the market (or anything else Google related.). I have attempted to get on the market using other phones around the office (Samsung Moment) and they too can not get on.
But, I have noticed that when I turn WiFi on it works like a dream. That is what is worrying me for some reason. I know other phones cant get to the market, but the fact that I can though WiFi makes me think something is wrong with my phone.
Maybe its just sprint...
i think it is sprint because i have a rooted evo here at work and it cannot access anything google. the guy down the hall has an unrooted stock 2.2 evo and it is the same thing.
I'm starting to think it is Sprint. A buddy of mine just came to my desk running a stock non-rooted EVO and he is having similar issues.
I'm having the same issues with gmail and market with stock 2.2.
i should also add that I am in St Louis. I read in the forums at androidforums that 1 guy had this problem and he was in st louis but others did not so it may not be all over.
I am in Minneapolis
I too am having the same problem. I do however have data with a 4G connection. I don't know if any of you have that option. I have no GMail, Google Maps/Nav, Internet, AppBrain with 3G but I do have Facebook.
When I switch to 4G I get all of that back. The only problem is that I don't have 4G everywhere I go.
Hope this gets fixed soon. Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one.
I am having the same issues, no google services work, that includes:
Google Talk
Gmail
Google Reader
Google Voice
pointing a browser at www.google.com
All other web surfing works fine, all other data works fine, full bars 3G
Tried factory data resets, 3 different roms
Flashed back to stock 2.2 still nothing.
I can't add Google accounts.
Sounds like basically no connection to any Google servers for any of their services.
Seems like its just through sprint though, maybe not, maybe sprints routers stopped routing traffic to Google for some reason.
Same problems -no market/gmail/etc on 3G but okay on 4G. I'm in Baltimore.

I also wish they would expand it juuuuust a little farther to Eden Prairie. But during the day I work in MPLS, so at least I have some 4G.
Also having some difficulties with pretty much anything Google related over 3G, but everything is gravy with 4G and WiFi. Also noticed this had started happening yesterday.

Same issues here, started last night. Data on wi-fi works like a champ, anything over 3G that is google related doesn't work at all. I'm in STL.

No Service for a few seconds, happens all the time

Hey everyone, just another thing I'm facing with my Note 4...
Ever since I got my Note 4, it's been having some problems with No Service, so I thought it was my old SIM card (that had to be hacked off into microSIM shape), but since I got it exchanged for a new one it's still dropping into No Service very often, like twenty times in 5 minutes. Then it seems to be fine for a few hours, but then it happens again a few times and so on...
Basic info:
SM-N910F
Stock, unrooted NK4 ROM with NK4 modem as there is no way to not trip KNOX yet.
O2 Czech Republic
In the same places, my S2 never had a single signal drop (No Service)—not sure if these two things are identical?
Questions/thoughts...
Could this be modem related or could it be something with the device itself?
Is there any way to test it?
I mostly notice it on H and H+, not so much (never) on EDGE, 4G coverage is rare in my area, so I can't say exactly.
Factory reset: could it change something in this case? I'm saving it as the penultimate solution, before getting a new one.
Thanks for your help.
I think I found a little bit of correlation between when and where it happens. Not really sure if it happens only when I'm close to some WiFi network, but I just noticed that when I'm in proximity of a WiFi network, the NO SERVICE is very often.
Plus, when I think about it, I haven't noticed it anywhere else, but in WiFi areas. Is the phone trying to tell me to use the WiFi?! Well, I can do that at home but nowhere else as I don't want my packets sniffed more than they already are by the provider...
Seriously, is there any way that WiFi networks could interfere with my phone's signal/service?

Thank you for the reply, I thought that smart switch was meant for transferring data from an old phone to a new one? Or do you mean some different "smart switch"?
look in settings. smart switch moves data from your mobile network to wifi and back.

Yeah, found it, Smart network switch in Wi-Fi settings. I have it unticked. So this shouldn't be affecting me(?) As the No Service happens to me when I'm on mobile data, in Wi-Fi range but my Wi-Fi is off...
no solution yet
I still haven't figured out what's the problem exactly.
But me and my colleague have the same provider, but she's got an S4 and when I had them side-by-side I noticed that both phones dropped to No Service at the same time, but my S2 didn't. The area is fine, signal-wise, there's even a mediocre 4G, but at the time all of them were on H+. And when they "regained consciousness", they were starting from zero signal EDGE back to full H+.
This makes me wonder, as it seems it's got to have something to do with some setting in both phones / SIM cards' setup. Both of them have new SIM cards and both of them did it even with the old ones.
I'm gonna call my provider's tech support to see what they have to say about it.
I am experiencing the same problem here in USA. I bought the phone from Amazon Germany, using it on AT & T network in US. For no reason the phone drops the phone call and goes into " Not registered on network" message. This lasts anywhere from 20 seconds to 5 minutes, then without me doing anything goes back to normal. I was using this phone in Czech republic for a week in January and had no issues.
I was experiencing no service on my Exynos n910u and I ended up reflashing ONLY the modem, and it's fine now.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
It seems to me like a modem issue too. I remember that I had to change modem on my S2 in order for H+ to work.
And since I can see there is an issue when changing countries, it would suggest it as possible... However, does flashing modem only trip the Knox counter or something? I can't read through the forums right now, so I'm asking politely here.
Anyway, I isolated the issue to 3G networks, because when I force my phone to be 2G only it never drops, my signal is green and seldom grey. No service never occurs, but as soon as I switch it to 2G/3G/4G or something else that includes 3G, it starts again.

Wanted to thank you for the input, this just suggests that the modem/radio is at fault. Because you relocated to a different area and it doesn't work properly with the bands there.
I had the same problem on my S2, which was unable to connect to 3G until I flashed the modem recommended to me by someone here on xda. But that was almost 4 years ago, I just don't understand why this happens, what's so different that the modem just wouldn't connect, plus the S2 was bought from my provider and it was branded with their bloatware and still, it didn't work.
But here on my N4, it's similar, but it seems to work just fine and then, all of a sudden, you're facing No Service message for a few seconds or minutes, then boom, you're back on.
I spoke with Samsung support today, and I guess they didn't even understand what I was saying. I'm gonna have to visit them and ask around, if they could flash the modem to something more compatible with my area. Can't use the phone like this, that's why I bought it in the first place - I need to be online and as fast as possible. But now, it would seem like I'm better off with my S2
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
Well, that sucks...
So, I had my phone serviced and they said everything was fine and that it's working the way it should.
Of course it isn't, the second I walked out of there I had a No Service a few times again, I already tried changing the bands only to what my provider has, didn't help at all, switched it back to all available bands. Naturally, I got really pissed. There seem to be only two viable options:
a) flash a different modem, as suggested in a previous post
or
b) get rid of the phone, which I really don't wanna do, but it's really annoying having to resend every second message (often twice), be it SMS or IM, because it drops into No Service...
ad a) I did a search and I was unable to find a modem thread or anything regarding modems for N910F, am I blind or there isn't one? Or am I supposed to extract it myself from a stock ROM file? (I don't even remember how to do that anymore, lol.... I guess there is a guide for that, but again, I haven't found it?! Or is it universal across Samsung devices?)
ad b) I love the phone but this makes me wanna throw it out the window
Thanks for any kind of help! I'm desperate.

Thank you for your reply!
I haven't solved them yet, but it got a lot better when I updated to Lollipop. It's got a different modem (BOC4) and it seems to have improved my situation. So happy I didn't have to throw the phone away after all.
To be clear, it still happens but a lot less since the update, maybe once a week, for a few seconds which I deem acceptable but not ideal.

I took my Note 4 and a hammer into the garden today...........

I took my SM N910L Note 4 and a hammer into the garden today because no matter what I've tried
(and I've tried everything http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/im-bonkers-ill-pay-50-dollars-to-fix-t3169748)
I just can't get it to work. I put the Note 4 on the grass and I raised the hammer above my head - but I just couldn't do it....... it's not the money......it's the waste.............
So, I'm upping my offer. If you can tell me what to do to get my NOTE 4 receiving and sending DATA again (basically connecting to my carrier) I'll send you 100 dollars. The first person to to show/tell me something that allows me to make a skype call or receive even 1 email through my DATA connection gets the money. INSTANTLY!!!!!
Please read the thread above, all the info is in there except this. I have been trying to flash a different custom ROM in the hope that that will fix it but none of the ROMs I have downloaded will flash thru TWRP (even though I can backup and restore thru TWRP). I get an error message saying unable o open zip. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas please post.
A very big thank you again to all those who have tried to help me already.
I have a hundred dollars pinned on the wall in front of me .................. I'll be sooooooo happy to see it go !
P.S. I know that you are not helping me just for the money, I know you are helping just to help me out (and I have had so much help already), but I just want to make it worth your while too.
Is it the modem? Perhaps try installing the official docomo 4.4.4 rom for the note 4 via Odin. See if that fixes it?
I'm a noob but it's all I can think of. I hope it helps somewhat and if not then just return the phone?

I think it is the modem too, but I've re-installed 4.4.4 and 5.01 many many times. I flashed individual modems too. Nothing seems to sort it out. Can't return the phone - bought on Amazon from Korea, seller sucks, Amazon unhelpful, that's a dead end - I need to fix it.
Thanks anyway (I'm a noob too )
Might sound stupid, but have you tried a different SIM card?

OOps!
Yup, tried that makes no difference. Have a look at this thread, it lists everything I've done.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/im-bonkers-ill-pay-50-dollars-to-fix-t3169748
load stock rom on it for the 910L with all stock CSC, do a complete reset, turn off carrier data in settings, select carrier network manually then turn on wifi carrier data bluetooth. make sure smart network switch is off. disconnect wifi and try it out.
and if that doesnt work ship me the phone instead of using a hammer on it lol.
Have you called your carrier to make sure it's not some sort of problem with how they have your account set up?

Yup I have 2 sim cards now with two different carriers and have spent hours and hours on the phone with them both trying to work out why it is not getting data. My only glimmer of hope is that although they are different carriers I have found out that they both use the same network (dohhh) so maybe it is specific to that network - DOCOMO.
thanks for your help.
OP, does Settings -> About Device -> Status show that Data is In Service?

If yes, you probably have some sort of APN issue with Docomo. If not, you may be boned.
IF YES:
Go to Settings -> More Networks -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names
Press the plus symbol on the top right, set the name to DOCOMO, set the APN to mopera.net, set the MCC to 440 and MNC to 10.
If this doesn't work, use 0120.mopera.ne.jp as your APN instead.
If that still doesn't work, have you tried a b-mobile SIM? I had this issue once when I was in Japan for some time - Docomo doesn't like people using unlocked, imported devices on their networks for some reason.

Man, just take it to a Samsung repair store. They will probably charge you if you have voided your warranty with KNOX but its sure as hell wont cost 100$...

Yup, I think that it is about time. Hate doing it because Im sure it's a software issue, but I don't have any more avenues to go down now. But it will cost more than a hundred dollars though - I live in Japan, I'll be lucky if I get out of their spending less than 200 dollars. Still, let's see.
@kazbluesk1 send me the phone, I will fix it and send back to you =), I hope a for a reply of 100$

I didnt think the prices were that high there. Again if its not a hardware problem it cant cost that much.

Talked to Samsung Japan today. They wont fix try to fix it even if I offer to pay - has to go back to Korea. The company I bought it from said it is user negligence, Amazon says it was working for 7 weeks so it is not there problem.
So, seems I'm left with a very pretty, extremely useful Samsung iPod. No phone though.........................
At some point it is stupid not to give up...................
Am there yet..............??

Seriously considering saying yes
At this point I'd consider human sacrifices, voodoo dolls, or crystals too.
Are you sure that SM 910L is your local Note 4 variant? There might be hardware differences in different variants that only accepts certain signal bandwidth for a specific carrier.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and will never be Note 5.

Is there a working free hot spot apps?

No root won't be a problem if there is a working hot spot app for us unlimited users.

FoxFi used to work with a VPN tunnel... but I don't know now. I use VZW as my ISP, so I pay for tethering.
All the phones I have had are rooted with hot spot carrier check bypass so not having a hot spot will be a no go on this phone.

No big need for an app, the turning on hot spot while signal refreshes method works.....Look up details in the Turbo2 forum.
I can get the signal refresher method to work, but the hotspot shortcut in the notification panel only turns it off for me. It will not turn it on. Any suggestions? I have to queue the hotspot settings then switch to activate from there.

Searched through the Turbo 2 forums and dont see anything. Anyway you could post a link please? Thank you.
I currently am working with the FCC and the EFF to address this
Below you can read my complaint. I have removed identifying information for the time being but have at this point escalated beyond the FCC. Last night I was contacted by the FCC and we discussed plans for next steps. They have forwarded my complaint to Verizon and I was contacted by Verizon Enterprise Resolutions Team. I spoke with VZW today and had a 45 minute conversation discussing their restriction on the fact that Verizon is treading very close to the 2012 ruling. At this point I am waiting to hear back from Crystal from Verizon's internal team on next steps.
VERIZON WIRELESS - 700MHZ C BLOCK RESTRICTING USERS ABILITY TO UTILIZE OPEN FREQUENCY
On Friday August 19th I purchased a new phone from Verizon Wireless. I was surprised to find out that the applications that I normally use to tether my wireless broadband no longer worked due to a combination of efforts set by Google to patch security holes and Verizon Wireless' modification of the stock rom that was shipped from Motorolla Mobility.
Verizon has modified the stock internal mobile broadband hook in settings and forced it to call a 'Subscription Check' service that requires end users to enroll in a 30$ a month mobile broadband service in addition to their current bill.
While the second part is not new, the first; disabling tethering applications, is.
In 2011 the Free Press filed a complaint with the FCC located here
freepress.net/sites/default/files/fp-legacy/FreePress_CBlock_Complaint.pdf
In this complaint it holds that Verizon Wireless choice and collusion with Google to disable or limit third party tethering apps steering users to their paid server is not only poor business practice but against the fair use of the C block LTE frequency and in the FCC's 2012 ruling found below, they agree.
transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2012/db0731/DOC-315501A1.pdf
The settlement of 1.25 million against Verizon not only solidifies fault, but reinforces the necessity to keeping the use of this frequency open to competition for applications and use.
I feel that the current situation that I am facing also affect other end users and is simply a rehash of the 2011 issue.
I have contacted Verizon and have the recorded messages located here:
Call 1 -REMOVED-
Received email response listed here:
-REMOVED-
Call 2 -REMOVED-
Verizon Wireless HQ
Dispute Resolution manager
one Verizon way, VC52S417 Baskin Ridge NJ, 07920-1097
I am looking for advise primarily if I should pursue this issue, if I am off base or if this is something that the FCC has interest in pursuing.
Thanks very much

Method
This is put together from the droid turbo 2 thread. Works for me on unlimited data.
1. Download "Network Signal Refresher Lite By 8JAPPS"
2. Run the app, Hit the refresh button.
3. Pull down notification drawer, pull down again to get to the quick settings tiles
4. Wait until the Sim card icon changes to the completely empty signal bars icon
5. Hit the hotspot button only once, wait a few seconds it will turn on.
It works for me all the time. Posting from a tethered computer as we speak.
The stock wifi hotspot app work for me on cricket , using moto z force

Trying to cinfirm thart signal refresh native hotapot procedure still works afyer the software update.
Tether Update
Just got my Moto Z Force today WoW!!! this is one motorola mother ship, anyway while we wait for the sunshine miracle, Tether is great with the PDANet app using Bluetooth, Super fast, not like the unfortunate HTC devices that try the same thing (BT is real slow) on the Z, BT is blazing fast, not much different than the Native Hotspot I used on HTC M9. Hey its free so WTF right?

Do you know if the signal refresher hack still works with the MCOS24.104-35-1-9 latest update?
Yes works after update! I just got a surface rt for work and was trying to find a root for t2 but with no luck but this worked!!! Very awesome! I came across the pull sim card out and out back in with little luck everytime I out card back in hotspot would disable. But this did the trick thank you!
Does this work with the nougat update?
Don't want to upgrade if it means losing hotspot.

I can't get it to work with the Network Refresh method. Shoot.
Just out of curiosity what is everyone using the mobile hotspot for? I never feel the need to use it, maybe I can offer some alternative insight.
I use it for when other people need wifi, doing homework at the park, my 3DS, very useful if you're traveling. Used it for like two years when I lived alone as my home wifi. Used to sell phones in a store that didn't have wifi and used it to backup and restore stuff for customers. Lots of little uses that add up quickly.
