[How-To] Change Status Bar Icons - Acer Iconia A500

I have changed the status bar icons for a few time, and just want to share it to people who wants to personalize it by themselves but don't know how with their own taste without asking the others to do it for them
What you need:
- WinRar
- Gimp 2 - http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
- ADB or something like RootExplorer, I prefer ADB
File to be modified:
SystemUI.apk - you can find it in system/apps/
First, you need to get the SystemUI.apk out of your favorite ROM, I use WinRar, and then you open the apk file also by Winrar. Extract the 'drawable-mdpi' folder in 'res' folder. You will see the icons for back, home, option, etc. in there.
Now, edit the default icon with Gimp 2, open the icon, click Del to remove the image but still keep the template for your new icon. Open the your favorite icon (with Gimp 2 of course), and resize it to the size of the ROM's icon (it's under the Image option), mostly choose Height 48pixel and Width will be set automatically, just remember to look at the size of the default icon. After you resized your favorite icon, just Ctrl + C on your icon and then Ctrl + V on the the template, it will put your new icon to the center of the template. Last step for this is to save it back to the 'drawable-mdpi' folder. I suggest you to use .png icons and save the templates for your future uses FYI, you should have a 'pressed' template.
Last, open the SystemUI.apk and "Added files to ..." to the .apk file, add the modified 'drawable-mdpi' folder to the .apk, then you are done with the SystemUI.apk. If you want to have a fresh ROM flash, then just put the modified SystemUI.apk back to the ROM and flash; or you can "adb push" it to your tablet or over-write it, then you restart your tablet to see the change
That's it, first time you try it, it's going to take sometimes, but after you have all the templates ready, it's gonna be so quick for you to make any changes.
Let me know if you have any question, I'm no expert in Graphic Designing or Programming but will try to answer your questions
Here are some examples which I'm currently using them, have fun:

[CUST] [20080914]Celogeek Icon Reorganizer and Customizer for all rom, all language

Hi, all,
I have made a tool working (in theory) for all diamond rom, all language.
For French guy, look at there : http://celogeek.free.fr/2008/09/celogeek-icones-reorganiseur/
They is a full and clean explanation totally in french, with screenshot ...
Under the pack they is my icon set. You can use easyly set any icon you want, any name for directory and link, and reorganize automatically all tools as you want after or during any rom installation.
So, you probably just have to set the ini file one time, they will work forever between any rom.
You can now, always keep your icon organisation under Programs between rom.
If you install new software, just add it to the ini file where you want to move it, re-run Celogeek Icon Reorganizer, and that's it !
Ok I join this file, with English directory version (can change it easyly),
I have add lot's of link, in french and english, so they can directly work nice if you have this kind of ROM language. For over, you have to add your link under.
Just run it first, look in Programs (with StartUp > Programs), any link that is not move in directory you like will appear here. Add it to the ini file at the right place, and re-run cir. That's it !
Here explanation of ini file :
-- CUT OF INI --
[dirs]
app=Application?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-1
conn=Connections?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-2
game=Games?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-3
gps=GPS?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-4
multi=Multimedia?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-5
office=Office Mobile?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-6
system=System Tools?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-7
internet=Internet?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-8
[internet]
app1=Messenger?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-103
app2=Opera Browser?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-101
app3=RSS Hub?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-102
app4=Windows Live?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-103
--END OF CUT --
First : [dirs] section
in this section, you create any key you want
ex:
app=Application
internet=Internet?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-8
They will create directory name "Application", the "app" is use below as an alias for application
They will create "Internet" directory and set icon for this directory to "celogeek_icons_set.dll,-8"
after you can create [internet] section, with all application need to be move in it. You can't have twice same application in more than one directory.
Ex:
[internet]
app1=Messenger
app2=Opera Browser?celogeek_icons_set.dll,-101
they will move Messenger link under Internet directory. Key is not important, but need to be unique per section
they will move Opera to Internet directory and set a custom icon to "celogeek_icons_set.dll,-101"
So my init file contain lot's of link I have add from "TOR french" ROM and "Dutty 1.9" link, I have add iGO8 icon and TomTom icon too a personal tools for me (same for spb soft).
If link doesn't exist, it will be ignore.
So here the installation process :
Unpack cir.zip under your internal storage.
Go under it,
move to themes directory, install theme you want (it's a cab that contain celogeek_icon_set.dll), for the moment they is one COOL theme named MAC.
After that, move back to cir directory
Run cir.exe
Just wait, a message will appear when job finished.
Look in Programs the result after that.
Any link that isn't present in INI file will stay in Programs directory. All this link will automatically be added to INI file under section [unknown] with their custom icon, if found in lnk file.
So after you just have to move it to the place you want. Don't forget to set a key value to a unique one in section you move. ex: app1=test, move it to Internet, change app1 to appX (X is last number found +1).
Ex:
before:
---
[internet]
app1=abcde
---
[unknown]
app1=Test
after:
---
[internet]
app1=abcde
app2=Test
---
Copie to you pc the ini file and change it as you want, and push it back to the cir directory after.
A cir link with my icon (a nice girl in purple), will be add automatically in Programs link, just click on it after any change of ini file.
Hope you will like it !
Any question or ask for icons set are welcome and will be done with pleasure by me !
So, just ask
Good customization guy !
See celogeek_icons_set_XXX.jpg for ressource number

In fact I want something easy to change. You use celogeek_icons_set.dll, and just change the theme as the one you want but keep same icons meaning number
-1 = application
-2 = ...
After we can move from one to other without need of changing reg.ini
I will make a theme with that theme
If you see somethink funny and better, no prob, I can do it
Up new version !
See first post, I have upgrade the system
Now support Application Custom icon !!!!

Please help

Woot! Changing default icons in WM6.1

First of all, the start menu icon
i got help from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2271995&postcount=8
and u can see how i got it on my BA
Want it??
the file is attached too. (signed already)
rename the file as shellres.96.dll
and paste this file in ur \Windows folder in ur device
Ofcourse u have to make a backup of originall shellres.96.dll too
Njoy this nice gray start menu icon
MORE ICONS ON THE WAY, I AM STILL DISCOVERING bout the icon changing thingi.
POST UR ICONS IN "PNG" with transparent background and in a multiple of 8 width and height that is 16x16, 24x24, 64x64, 128x128, 256x256.
so that i may get more time in modding rather in finding
GL all and happy modding. Atlast folder icon changing will work
Step 2, Changing the default folder icons
here are they
EDIT: the resource hacker is showing the folder icons in two pairs (16x16 and 32x32). If i am gonna replace one, the whole icon group gets changed. so uptill here no luck. will some body help me making a dll file with two icons (one for 16x16 and other for 32x32)
One small note,
the complete name of the file being replaced is shellres.96.dll.0409.mui
The reason I am making this comment is because depending on the rom (WWE or any other country ID), this might change. For instance, WWE is 0409, but I believe that German was 040C.
Other than that, good post. Let us know when you are able to change the system folders.
the mui exists there for localization thingi
I have used shellres.96.dll, the one i have pasted here and the screenshot is of my BA's. So I say authentic. I havent tried ur method since i am going fine
Now about the folders, the problem comes with pointing two icons in same icondump (i-e i need to have a file (like shell32.dll in windows for PC) which should only contain 32x32 folder icon (normal) and 16x16 icon (small). I dont know how to make such icon resource files. I have all PNG sets for my desired icons. I straight away convert them through an activeX based converter. Then THE PROBLEM IS ABOUT DUMPING TWO .ICO FILES IN ONE .ICO

S2U2 Energy ROM Clock Theme

I just put together some graphic's files from different themes to match EnergyRoms Default Theme.
In the Zip You find the clock folder, there is a wallpaper.png in the folder to match.
I used Tpro.v2 as a base.
Graphis are not of my own work, I just made changes.
If someone wants to improve on it , go ahead.
Nice, thanx a lot for this
thx

im having a hard time getting mine to look like yours can you some directions for noobs
1) Unzip and copy over clock folder into your S2u2\gfx\ Overwritting your existing "Clock" folder and contents.
2) Copy the wallpaper.png under the gfx\clock folder you just copied over to the root of \gfx folder.
3) Go into S2u2 Settings and make sure your Primary clock is set to "Clock" folder and your portrait wallpaper is set to wallpaper.png instead of wallpaper.jpg.
As far as the rest of the GUI i.e. the weather - go to S2u2 Custimization thread and look for the Hero weather icons, I also installed the Tpro V2 theme for Touch Pro as a base (before hand).

How to CHANGE QuickMenu Folder Icons?

Okay, I searched for "change icons" and got two pages of threads on how to change program icons. Some provided great information; however, none addressed my need.
I'm interested in changing only FOLDER icons, and ONLY those in QuickMenu (see attached images). The folder icons are all the same except for two, the Games folder and the Office Mobile folder. They both have a small file inside the directory that's called "icon."
I would like to change any and all directories to whatever icon I choose, or design. Is this possible? If so, how?
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a look at that program, and the web site, and I'm completely confused. It looks like a program for my PC, and not my phone. Furthermore, I don't see anything mentioned on how to change an icon.
HELP!
ADDENDUM: Furthermore, as I said in my original post, I DO NOT want to change program icons, such as exe files or dll files. From what I can tell, PExplorer is desiged to modify the inner workings of exe and dll files, etc.
I want to change the icons for a directory (folder image). These are not programs or dlls.
Thanks,
Peter
Figured it out ...
I figured it out. It took a bit of thought, and some weird manipulation using Notepad, but now I can change any QuickMenu icon to almost whatever I want, as long as there's either an EXE or DLL file that contains the icon.
Cheers!
----------------------------------
Since I don't plan to return to this thread, and since there may be someone who wants to know what I did, here's my solution:
REMEMBER: This solution ONLY works if you want to change folder icons WITHIN the QuickMenu subset of folders. It does NOT work on program icons, or for any other icons for that matter (ONLY QUICKMENU FOLDERS).
01) Find an EXE or DLL file with the icon you want. If this file contains more than one icon, then you'll need to know the icon number within the program. This can be quite difficult to determine. However, for the purpose of this discussion, I'm assuming you want to use the MAIN icon, which is usually designated as icon "0" (zero) within the EXE or DLL file. We'll go with "0" for this discussion.
02) Your phone should already have at least one (probably two) folder icon files. The two in question are usually used for the Start Menu Games directory and for the Start Menu Office Mobile directory. Using Total Commander or any similar program (File Explorer will NOT work), make your way to either the Games or Office Mobile directory within the Windows\Start Menu. Whether it's the Games folder or the Office Mobile folder, you should find a shortcut file called icon. This is the file that determines how the folder will appear within the QuickMenu structure.
03) Copy this file to your PC. Anywhere will do as long as you remember where you put it. Make a second copy of it just in case you "ruin" your attempt to change the icon using these instructions. At least you can go back to what you had before.
04) Right click on this file and select Properties. In the General tab, uncheck the Read-only box. Click on Apply.
05) Open NotePad on your PC.
06) Within NotePad, click on File and then on Open. The Open dialogue box appears. At the bottom of this dialogue box are three horizontal white boxes. The second box has the title "Files of type." The default entry is "Text documents (*.txt). Click on the down arrow and change this to "All files." Now find the icon file you copied to your PC in (3) above and open it within NotePad.
07) You will see a line of instructions at the top of the file. These instructions tell your phone where to find the icon image. What we need to do, therefore, is change the instructions to another icon image.
08) Now let's assume that you have a Start Menu folder within QuickMenu called PDF files, and you would like that folder to have the Adobe Reader icon. To do this, change the line of instructions from what it currently reads to the following:
1#AdobeReaderLE.exe,-0
09) Make sure there's a carriage return after the final "0"
10) Re-save the file. The file name must not be changed. It must always remain as "icon."
11) Now copy this new file to the actual PDF directory within your phone's Start Menu. Soft reset your phone and the PDF folder will now have the Adobe icon.
DONE!
Here are some tips:
The above example assumes that the AdobeReaderLE.exe file is in your main Windows directory. If the EXE file you want to use is anywhere else, you need to direct the instructions appropriately. Here's an example for an EXE file contained on your Storage Card, and within the Program Files directory. Let's say you installed BsB Tweaks to the Storage Card, and you want to use the main BsB icon for one of your Start Menu folders. Here's how the instructions would look:
1#\Storage Card\Program Files\BsB\Tweaks\BsB Tweaks.exe,-0
Remember to always save the file with the name "icon." Always put the revised icon file inside the directory whose appearance you want to change.
Happy Changing!
Peter
P.S. Since I can't seem to add images to a post after the fact, I will submit another post shortly with images to show you what I did with my phone.
Before and After Images
As promised, attached (below) are images to show you what I did with my phone.

thanks alot man, i have been looking for days, to find a way to do this!!!!

[HOW TO] S-Note templates with custom backgrounds

I was looking for an easy way of having the "Note" and "Meeting" templates with white background, so it would print decently. So far it seems there's no easy way to create own templates apart from messing with the .apk file. The alternative of manually setting the background each time I create a note or add a page does not look appealing as well.
Until somebody comes with a better solution, here's what I managed to get:
Simple description:
Modify original '"Note" template
Download the "Wine" template form 'new snote' dialog window
Replace the "Wine.snb" with modified "Note.snb"
Detailed description
* Intro:
Templates are stored in *.snb files, which are plain zip files (just like .apk's), easy to open/change with e.g. 7-Zip.
We want to customize the Note template ('note.snb' file).
Root is necessary.
* How to modify note.snb backgrounds:
Copy the file '\system\app\Snote_wxga.apk' to your PC
On PC:
Open the 'Snote_wxga.apk' file and
Goto to '\assets\templates' folder
Open the 'Note.snb' file
Go to folder 'snote\media\':
- the two .png files located there are note backgrounds (for title page and normal ones) - edit or replace the files with your own
- the two .jpg files are thumbnails - edit or create your own, by e.g. resizing and converting the .png files from previous step
* How to get the modified template to the device:
Download new template from the web (in new note window dialog) - let's say it's "Wine"
Go to folder '/data/data/com.sec.android.app.snotebook/download/template', it should contain following files:
/T_001/template/thumb_l.png
/T_001/template/thumb_p.png
/T_001/template/wine.snb
/T_001/widget/widget_thumb.png
/template.list
Replace the file '/T_001/template/wine.snb' with your modified copy of 'note.snb' (remember to change the name from 'note.snb' to 'wine.snb')
All other .png files are thumbnails - edit, make your own or leave as it is
* How to change name of the new template from 'Wine' to something else:
Copy the 'template.list' file to PC
Open it with a decent text editor (e.g. Notepad++)
Find the string {"value":"Wine","lang":"en"} for your language, and change the 'Wine' label to one of your choosing
Copy the file 'template.list' back to folder '/data/data/com.sec.android.app.snotebook/download/template' on your device
The following procedure can be repeated - so far there are 3 downloadable templates provided by Samsung, each of those can be replaced the same way.
PS1. It works.
PS2. At least on my device.
Thanks for trying that out. I haven't got round to it yet, but I was planning to try something similar myself.
The other solution I had considered was a rather more radical hack of the snote apk, but a more flexible solution: If it was possible to hack the apk so that the downloaded templates are stored in the default external storage in /sdcard/Android/data/com.sec.android.app.snotebook/ rather than the internal storage you could get to that without root, and just edit the templates any time you wanted.
It would be easy enough to do with access to the java code, and while I'm sure it might be possible to do by hacking the smali files, it's more work than I can find the time for at the moment.

Hopefully Samsung will discover the idea of custom templates some day. Also, judging from the structure of snb files, they must have some template editor (i don't believe they would edit all the xml's manually). Would be great if the editor was made public as well.
As for the solution - editing java lives far above my abilities, so I hope you'll find the time. I chose the described method, because the other solution, i.e. replacing the snb files directly inside the snote apk, would not survive the flashing, unless the new apk was installed to data, which I had no time to check if would work at all. Besides, having the ready-made template folder, I was able to repeat the process on my wife's Note within a minute.
One final remark - I did not bother with creating new backgrounds, any decent graphic editor enables to edit images palette colours, I used GIMP, to simply change background of 'Note' and 'Meeting' to white.

Thank you for finding and sharing this. I am still struggling with finding the Wine template. On the dialog "new note" in my Galaxy note 10.1 it just shows me the 10 templates available to choose. No template to download. Or do you mean another dialog? I don't understand that part really well.
Another question (I suppose I will know that when I can do it). Can I put templates (background images) of higher resolution? . That is the whole reason why I want to change the templates. I think the finest pen stroke looks pretty thick.
Thanks!!

I guess you could try, but it could require additional editing of one of xml files - I think template dimensions are stored there
Many thanks!!!
So now I know I don't have the same S-note version. I don't see that download option. Could somebody send me the Wine template file? thanks!
I'll let you know if I made it increasing the resolution.

I'm afraid this might not work for you - the whole template/background swapping works because additional templates are installed by SNote app itself. I doubt your version will be able to recognize template files if you just copy them.
anyway, I'll attach the templates after the weekend, so you can try for yourself

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Thanks!
S Note of Galaxy Note 3
Does anyone know how we can get large (A4) size templates for S Note? The default pages are like small (size) notes.
Can someone give me the S Note apk files for Galaxy Note 3? I want to install this on my Asus tablet as well so I can synchronize my work done on either of the two.
I have been using Asus Supernote earlier on my Asus Tablet and Galaxy S3 mobile, but the Supernote does not work on my new Galaxy Note 3.
Unless I missed it - is it possible to change the default save file name? I used the memo template to create my new one - copied over wine. When I hit save it defaults to Memo_date_time. If I can find where to change the Memo portion of the filename. Would make for a sweet setup then
