ICS Nexus S 4G full working - Nexus S General

Fully Stable ICSI would just like to let you guys know (If you havent been in General Lately.) that some devs at Androidcentral are working on an ICS rom built from SDK
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...127806-read-only-memory-ics-sdk-port-wip.html
Flash this afterwards so you get Root, Proper fonts and lockscreen fixes.
Also, some goodies:
http://tylerwatt12.com/XDA/ics/gallery/
Build 1A below, current build is build 2B see forum for download link
New version
What works:
WiFi
SD Card
Touchscreen
Hardware Acceleration(most)
Camera (After first FC)
Home, search and back buttons (not menu button)
Headphone and ext spk. sound
3G Text, MMS
What doesn't:
(Some ICS lib's had to be replace with GB lib's. So it's not exactly a clone of the SDK build (still great work though)
NFC no worky
I'm being told Calls dont work
Tap to share
some ICS features are left out.
Ill explain things a bit better here:
With any android release (Not including Honeycomb) the software release goes as follows:
Android develops the Android Version
A PR is made on the subject usually including a new device that will run the software
Between the announcement and release of the phone the SDK is released for that new version of Android
A Dev takes apart the SDK version of the rom and starts porting things over.
SDK builds don't usually work as an every-day phone, just something to play around with.
Sometime after the phone is released Source Code for the Android Version is released in which dev's will be able to make awesome ROM's that work well
(Fastest source release to rom build is about 1 hour) So you can expect that after Source is released Dev's will get a working ROM within hours.
... Weeks/Months Later..
Samsung releases ROM's to Carriers for OTA Updates.
Correct me if i'm wrong in any part here guys

Hey, just wanted to clarify, the ROM is not built from source but ported from the released 4.0 SDK.

I read earlier that its a sdk port and not source code. Is there a quick explanation regarding the difference between the two.

Source code is just that, source. The actual source used to compile android. The android SDK is a tool released for emulators allowing you to emulate the os on your computer, for example. These ports are ported from that emulator while roms you see around here are built from source for your device.

Back up and running but still with the 1 bravo verstion

I've used it and it's okay and a little fun. You'll quickly go back to whatever you were running before. But ROM or not, you'll want to have the official update if you own a Nexus device anyways.

As cool as these ports are, they'll never have full use out of them being a SDK. I wish the launch of IC was sooner as far as updating. Waiting until the 10th for the Galaxy Nexus to come out was a little bit of a wait. A week or two after it was announced would have been reasonable.

for those looking for news, he said he has the touch working and will be opsting an update soon that has working touch.
and for this first (and soon to be old) release, it still thinks its working as an emulator on a computer. thats why 2 fingers is clicking and one finger is just tracking kinda like a mouse.
and keep it to the NS4g tho for convo, other threads are popping up like crzy for phones.
thanks and hope i helped for the news =D

Not looking too well anymore. Trying to find the correct kernel. I'm trying to use the Bonsai kernel but thats probably not compatible. Probably going to have to compile my own. It gets up to the SGTab 10.1 screen then reboots itself.
EDIT: Oh, and, 100th Post!

That could work, but at the moment I'm trying to rip the kernel from the SDK since the stock honeycomb and ICS kernel versions are different.
Btw, if any developer who knows what they're talking about wants to help me, shoot me a PM bro!
I can help to test when you have a decent beta ready.
Seems you should just wait for source and skip SDK ports. I think the Cyanogen team knows what they are talking about... Too much of a headache for poor performance.
I would love to be proved wrong... I'm not a dev, but I do develop apps and abhor using the sdk emulators. I also know the HC sdk port to the Nook Color never got off the ground. And that was a flexible device to work on...

Technically you can try to simulate what it will look like, but not until the source code is released will you have any functionality. It will still be 3.1

New features on JB

Im just curious to know what some of the new features on JB will be, and also what do you hope JB will bring?
Project butter is the main thing if I'm not mistaken. This is basically ICS but built much, much better in terms of code, fluidness, and speed. Correct me if I'm wrong. There are a few other nice additions but nothing major. Things like expandable notifications, new lockscreen animation, ect.

Something I've been wondering, if any devs working on the JB port can comment, is to what degree the effects of Project Butter actually show up on our Epics? Is it a significantly noticeable difference or do our hardware limitations still show up markedly?

Well on the half/not-working non source port, it ran pretty damn smooth, noticeably so. Other than that, when it comes along I think it'd be better for people to try it themselves.
You can now stream music through the usb port. This should allow for some sweet docking stations.

I'm posting from JB on my xoom from teamEOS. Since it's on this device, hopefully it's not too long for cm10. Until viperx came onto HTC One X, I had all 3 of my Android devices running cm9. Now it's spread, cm9 was on xoom until JBs installation today, slimICS on SGS and of course viperx on HTC One X. My wife won't let me root her phones (that sounds so wrong as at least use Aussies use the term root as slang for sex.

I agree with you about the ETAs, but I think you misunderstood this circumstance... He is not asking the developers, he is asking everyone in this thread. It can't really be called an ETA, because estimations require some knowledge of the activity behind the scenes (somewhat like an educated guess) - if anything, he is asking for a WSTA - a Wild Speculation of Time of Arrival
With that said, there is even less point in asking for that than for an ETA, because all of our answers are unfounded guesses - but at least he isn't directly bothering the developers (they don't have any obligation to respond in this thread, so it's their choice if they're bothered by it, unlike in their threads)

And there will be no official 4.2
I think 4.2 and 4.2.1 have lots of nice new features (like the quick settings tiles in the notification bar) but under the hood, it's a gigantic piece of sh!t, it seems. I've never seen my NS4G chew through the battery so fast in my life!!! Leaving mobile data enabled is a sure death-sentence for the battery in a matter of hours, even if it's in sleep mode!!

Still early, it keeps getting better and better everyday! I am running DaxMax's Xylon 4.2.1 on my Galaxy Nexus and it is by far the best Android I have had to date! All this negative talk has a lot to do with certain Mod's and certain Gapps people are trying to run with 4.2.1 that breaks things and are not compatible. There is a lot of dirty flashing and ignorance contributing to this gossip about 4.2.1 being a disaster. The first time I flashed it I hated it and directly went back to 4.1.2 thinking I would wait til it is complete but the second time I flashed it I am convinced I will not be looking back!
I'm happy running 4.2... Its issues that were also common in 4.0/4.1 when they were first introduced. There are some great people working on it, so I imagine it'll get better soon.

CyanMobile source build

Well I have been working on source building for the past few days. I tried multiple ubuntu versions and ended up using 13.04 and was able to create a test rom from source (evervolv 4.1.2). I have been working on getting CyanMobile up and working and looks like I am very near to having a working copy so I figured I would put up a few links to other ports so yall can see what it looks like.
What is CyanMobile? Well it is a combo rom full of many features from cm7,9,10, and 10.1 all running on a gingerbread base. This means that it will be a fully functional rom cameras and all. Might even get 4g if I can figure that part out and get it included also!! Well onto the goodies.

Random pictures mostly of CyanMobile from Google

Hopefully I can get this going before too long.

Yay random announcement
Alright I have a test version of CyanMobile uploaded.
What is not working
- Market
- Torch widget (works but if you use the widget the screen will black out and you have to pull battery)
- Some setting options FC
- Weather (think it is related to the Market)
What I have not tested
- Bluetooth
- 4g
- HDMI out
The majority of the rom is working but without market it is not really ready for daily use. Your google account will sync so gmail, g+, talk and the other gapps work fine. I have tried several different vendor.apk along with a few phonesky.apk and they all force close.

I still totally dig the feel of Cyanmobile.... I got too comfortable on ClassicSense after I switched back to the OG, but I'm gonna get back on Cyan before friday..... Keep it up man, seriously. It's a great contribution.
So looking at the pics, and reading the facts about this. Dude, make this happen. It looks great, sound awesome and it's definitely original.
Exactly what I told him the other day..... This would be THE GB rom to beat. It truly is amazing and runs very smooth. Not short on options either.
