Upgrade time - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have my 2 yr update and am wondering what I should get I'm between the gx2, HTC sensation. I'm kinda playing around with the idea of going galaxy s II but wanted a second opinion.

The HTC Amaze.

Amaze 4g

I'm surprised the amaze 4g wasn't one of your options. Considering that the g2x and sensation are a few months old.

You may not want to upgrade cause you'd have to renew your contract and get a plan that's not as good
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Well while the Amaze is definitely the phone to get at the moment, it depends on what you want.
I would probably get the Sensation because for one, it's probably way cheaper than the Amaze. On contract the Amaze still sets you back for about 230, then the tax which is based on the 500$ price, so that's about almsot another 50 bucks. So you're looking at almost 300.
The Sensation can be pretty cheap now, I think I saw them for less than 100 at Wal Mart or Sam's Club.
They're basically almost the same phone, plus you get a MUCH better and already nice dev support for the Sensation.
As for the G2x, it's nice. I traded my MT4G for it and it has been great thus far. Tegra 2 is one awesome processor. But of course, it ain't qHD like the other mentioned.

Used G2 pricing

Hi,
I want to get the new g2x and sell my g2. I broke my original g2 and t-tmobile gave me a new one about 2 months ago. It's fully rooted s -off super cid etc. Mint condition. Running cm7.
How much do you think it is worth and what is a fair price to sell it for?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
I bet someone on ebay would buy that for 300+ bucks.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z/G2 Using XDA Premium App
If you want to get rid of it quick Radio shack will give you $165 for it.
Have you tried swappa(DOT)com?
Most G2's are in the 300's or more

Early upgrade possible.?

Hi xda well I'm looking at the sensation bout to jump over to it but I want the Samsung galaxy s2 but I was wondering I'm only a month away from my upgrade I've been with T-Mobile for 1 year and I have made every payment before its due. Any idea thanks.!
Sent from my HTC Gingerbread Glacier using XDA App
I was under the impression that you had to be with tmobile for 2 years for an upgrade
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Yeah you don't get an upgrade until your 22 mo mark. I believe at 13 months you get a partial upgrade, where it's like 30% off of full retail value. You could always threaten to cancel, retention might offer you an early upgrade or a good deal on a phone. You won't be able to get the Sensation through tmo until the 15th though.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Wth really.??? Well that sucks I wanted to upgrade to something newer dual core. Oh well I guess I'm going to have threaten them haha lol. Unless I buy it on craigslist but oh well. Well 30 percent I might take as well. Thanks for your answers.
Sent from my HTC Gingerbread Glacier using XDA App
It sucks but really you knew what you were doing singing the contract and getting the discount on your current phone. Why try to screw them over you always know the second you buy a phone is out done a month later deal with it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Well I bought the vibrant but then I had the g2, nexus one, back to g2 then somebody traded me there brand new glacier for my used g2. Well I guess I'm going to have to pt out of my pocket in that case ill wait till the sgs2 comes out. Seems to be befier.
Sent from my HTC Gingerbread Glacier using XDA App
Well I wasn't due for an upgrade until last month, but they gave me an exception and thus a full upgrade when I bought the MT4G back in Nov. So if you call it's possible to get one.
Good luck on the early upgrade it could happen, as for my upgrade it's in august and i'm thinking if the mt4g slide don't have more then 1gb rom i will probaly just wait it out till either the hercules or Nexus 3 come out. I'm not hurting that bad anymore anyways, since i'm coming from a g1 upgrade, i got a sick deal for this current mt4g phone on craigslist that didnt require a 2 yr contract woot.
Yea might as well wait a lot of good phones are coming out. Mytouch slide I might not Get. Yea if no 1gig I'm buying something else. Ever since I got the mytouch 4g I've been running stock gingerbread I tried cm7 but I'm in love with faux aosp rom. Well till then lets see what happens. Thanks again guys for the response.

Mytouch 4g or HTC Sensation 4G

Wanted to know your thoughts on whether I should trade my mytouch 4g plus cash ($50) for an HTC Sensation 4G. I know the sensation is a very nice device, just not sure about the locked bootloader and dev support since it wont be T-Mobile's flagship device.

Save ur money and flash evil D's virtuous fusion 1.1.8
Seriously tho only thing u gain with sensation is screen size and dual core IMO, mt4g still can hang it out till the quadcore phones/higher end 35nm dualcore phones release.

I agree, just run Virtuous Fusion if you want the Sense 3.0 look and save your phone/cash until the quad cores come out later this year

Yeah how are you pulling that deal off, OP?

Skip the Sensation and save your phone, just wait for the Quads like unk said, by that time we would have ice cream sandwich phones with no buttons and 720P resolution(better than qHD), Full HD Camera/vid, and who knows what else.
There is always gonna be a better phone that is going to be released. If you want the sensation and feel that its a good deal then go for it. The mt4g is still a great phone though and i probably wouldnt trade mine away.
Yeah I've been thinking about it and I'm leaning toward keeping the mytouch 4g because I feel it will have a larger user group (which means more support as far as rooting/ROMs). Also, not sure if the bootloader will be unlocked on the Sensation 4G.

Just get the sensation then...It is better in performance since you have neither just get the higher-end one. But I would recommend you to wait for the SGII or ICS phones at the end of the year. But I'm getting very repetitive in explaining why you should get one or the other.

I have a friend that wants the mytouch and is up for renewal. I told him mine was in very good condition and I would give it to him plus $50, if he upgraded and got the htc sensation 4g.

Might as well then, it's not like the sensation won't ever get unlocked. It will happen eventually, and if it doesn't effect your own upgrade hell why not..

True. I was looking at the sensation forums and it seems like an unlock is very close, official or not. some people were "accidentally" sold sensations with S-OFF and root.
I would do it, $50 Imo is not that much especially when you're getting a sweet looking and powerful phone like the sensation. I am very very happy with my mytouch but if I was offered that deal than I would definitely pull the trigger! If you got the money then do it but if you really don't then don't even think about it just don't do it. Either way I would still upgrade to kai-el. I am off contract so don't really have to worry about termination fees or early upgrading. Thank god!

agree....very good arbitrage situation.
i would get the sensation
I love root and I root every phone I get my hands on before I even log into my Google Account, and the lack of root on the Sensation really pains me. Honestly, all I want is Titanium Backup capabilities so I can transfer my data from games such as Aqua Pets and the various Kairosoft games.
The phone is super sexy, but I guess I'm a "Power-User", cause it only takes a few minutes for my battery level to TANK. Example - Week after power cycling the phone (so hopefully this battery is "conditioned" enough), I leave my house at 8am and around 815 I start downloading Audible books over HSPA+. I lose service at 840 when my train goes underground, and when I get to work 10 minutes later, I'm at 76% already.
The 4G KILLS this phone, and I need Juice Defender Ultimate on EXTREME just to make it through the day.
Comparatively, my MT4G on stock battery last slightly longer under the same circumstances.
So I would recommend holding out on this phone for maybe a month or so. I'm not going to return it, I love it, and Sense 3.0 is actually quite nice. The weather animations and the carousel are nice touches, as are the lockscreen shortcuts and "themes". It's not a bad skin to stock Android, and it doesn't seem to slow the phone down.
There is a ton of useless bloatware on the phone, and some stuff that might be running in the background, so root would be awesome to have to trim the fat in that sense (pun intended).

Upgrade to evo lte?

Well my account is up for my upgrade in a week and just wanted a little bit more information from the rest of the guys in the community. I'm stuck between the HTC EVO LTE and the Optimus G. The G has tons of beefed up power and an OK amount or support while the evo lte has tons of rooms and just slightly slower. Any thoughts I'm leaning toward the evo but just wanted anotger opinion
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Bro wait. Get the one. Viperboy and others are already pushing roms for it. Wait the optimus g dev is dead and the ltevo is nothing like the og in the old days. Sadly.
Going to be more action on the One-Edit
To answer the question ltevo or lgog? Ltevo.

I like my EVO LTE. Never played with any of the LG Android phones, so I can't really make a fair comparison. The One is a great choice in my opinion, too. The main drawback for some users will be the lack of expandable memory (SD card). There is still plenty of development with the EVO LTE, too. Just recently (within the last month or so) devs got a Sense 5 port from the One working on the LTE. There are several custom kernels that have been released, and a few of the devs who moved up to the One still have their LTE and have stated they will continue to dev for it

Get the One and the EVOLTE . Use upgrade for the one, and LTE Evos are selling fairly cheap these days on swappa.

The HTC One is the best choice right now, or you could wait a little more for the galaxy s4
Yeah I'm a broke sucker so 50 bucks for a quadcore or free evolution lte with my upgrade. So who knows I have no patience to wait but maybe I should.lol thanks guys

I am trying to decide what to upgrade to; the HTC One, Galaxy 4 or the Note 2.
Decisions, decisions!
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Just jumped on the OG Evo forums for the first time in over a year. I went from the OG Evo to the Evo 3D when it launched, and then preordered the Evo LTE. The LTE is a great phone and there is plenty of development for it. As much as I love HTC, I'm probably gonna pass on the One. Really wish Sprint would offer the 64GB version, but even then I don't know. I've told myself my next phone WILL have at least a 5" display. The Note 2 felt too big, surprisingly. But I really wish Sprint offered a version of the J Butterfly, like Verizon did with the Droid DNA. Not knocking the One by any means, I still may pick it up, as I usually get a new phone every year. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Evo LTE! That said though, with the One being released, I don't know if I'd choose the Evo LTE over the One. The main downfall of the One, in my opinion, is the lack of sd card slot. Especially since Sprint isn't going to offer the 64GB version! That's a big mistake for Sprint in my opinion!! I'd take an sd card slot over a sim slot any day, as I have no use for a sim slot! Really bro, you just need to go on a store and play with the One and the Evo LTE so you can really see sock one fits you best. Do keep in mind though that if you're with Sprint, or staying with Sprint anyway, 32GB is All the storage you'll have with NO ability for expandable storage!! That's the real deal breaker for me anyway! Either way, good luck with your decision! ALMOST any new smartphone(except Apple obviously! Lol!) will be an upgrade to your OG Evo!!
