LumiRead? - Acer Iconia A500

Hello, all
I just flashed my 1 week old Acer A500 with a light rom. Now, I am trying to install all the apps I like.
One of my favorite apps is LumiRead. I can't find it anywhere in the market. So, I think this is a stock app for acer. I know there are other readers out there. However, I read LOTS of text files in foreign languages. I tried all different kinds of readers the whole morning. I just couldn't find one with 2 page view, easily change font size, and large book cover at the main page.
For you smart ROM developers, is it possible to extract this LumiRead from the stock ROM. If I don't have LumiRead, I may have to go back to the stock ROM. I don't want that, because it is just slloooooow.
Thanks everyone!!

Here ya go!

awesome-ness!!! You are the BEST!

Oh no. I just tried to install it. It tried to install, then, it says, "X(red x) Application not installed." nooooooo

You have root correct?
If so, try copying both files to system/app reboot, and if necessary reinstall

Hum, I assume it is rooted, because it is a custom ROM. This is the ROM I installed, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188253.
I tried to use gingerbreak to root it, but it just sitting there, loading...
I tried to copy the lumi files to system/root. it says it failed to copy.

Umm it was system/app, not root. Set root explorer to r/w before pasting.
Over and out.

if you want to try this, I have installed without problems on a acer liquid and on my a501 with taboonay 2.2

Thanks for the quick reply!
It does not work. Root Explorer got the files copied over, still fail to install.

THANKS, tresed. IT WORKS!!

ahhh... nevermind... it installed... but when i try to open it...
The application LumiRead (process com.decomedia.android.acer.monet) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.

This is a screenshot of the application on my tablet

why not try taboonay

ahhh, i wonder if it is the rom's fault....

I don't mind trying out taboonay. all i want is to run a little faster.
which taboonay to try? sorry, I am new to this.

if you have not installed many applications and does not have important data. test with a wipe data and reinstal the apk
taboonay is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138051

Btw, you can find this app in Androonay Kitchen
You just need to be register.

I was looking for LumiRead also, as I had a bunch of books in it when I changed roms. However, after having a hard time finding it I downloaded Aldiko, which I used once before. It's a great alternative and it's more logical to use. Maybe try that one out, too - you might like it.

[HowTo] Root without a computer!

Ok, so for whatever reason you don't have access to a computer or you forgot your usb cable, like I did.
Here is how you root with just your phone.
Download Astro Filemanager from the market.
Open Astro and goto, menu > more > preferences, scroll down to the helper apps section at the bottom. Check "Enable Browser Download".
Open up the browser and download this file (QR-Codes at the bottom)
http://www.mediafire.com/?98jdjo9q2tdewxv
Mirrors:
http://www.multiupload.com/A5M3LWN7FY
Open up Astro, browse to /sdcard/downloads, move update.zip to /sdcard
Power off your phone, enter recovery mode (vol keys + power)
select "reinstall packages"
reboot, enjoy root
Once you are done with this you can grab the rom manager from the market, install a custom recovery and restore your nandroid backup. Worked great for me!

Download the file with an alternate browser such as XScope. It will download to your sdcard/xscope/downloads directory. Hope that helps. Stock browsers have issues sometimes downloading zip files.
Seems to have worked for me...
-e
i managed to dl the file but i get an error when i try to install it recovery mode that says its bad. I used the second link as it works for dolphin. i guess ill have to DL this Xscope and see if it lets me DL from the first link and give that a go
Edit: i managed to DL the first file with the default browser but when i tried to install it i got the same error saying the file is bad
The file in the first link is 90kb and the one in the second is 6kb. Is one of these files the right size or is the DL bad
Edit: My last question was retarded. Its supposed to be 633kb. dont know why its only DLin part of the file
Final Edit: Got it to DL poperly with Xscope. Thanks
Alright i have the SU ninja app icon but when i open it i only get a black screen and i still cant load non market apps. Sorry im a noob to all this.

[Q] reboot option in power menu

hello i5800 users
i was looking for ways to add a reboot option in the power menu but none seem compatible with i5800. AFAIK it is done by installing andoid.policy.jar but how can i do it for i5800? any ideas?
p.s. something like "Hot Reboot" would also be very useful.
thanks in advance
If you have a rooted phone then you can use switch pro widget to reboot. Another free alternate is to use widgetsoid2.x
Just add widget to reboot.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using Tapatalk
my point was i don't want no widgets. i just want to have an option for reboot when i press the power button
Just use AnReboot from the Market, giving you the option to boot into Recovery Mode,as well.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
i just use the terminal, su reboot. or su reboot download or whatever kinda reboot i need

Its not about the ROM, I think it can be done by modifying some .jar files or some .xml files.

You can't edit the .jar or XML files without to deodex the rom, and it seems like nobody did that yet...

I just read yesterday what's the matter with "deodexed". Am I right it's about to geht the .odex files back to .jar files? How can that be done?
Can this be done with the "xUltimate"-Tool? I read this was working on the Galaxy Spica...

Couldn't get my swype keyboard metamorph themed...

that is, until now! I'm currently running Fresh rom, latest version with Swype built in, so I was having trouble installing my beta swype (didn't care, stock swype works fine anyway, didn't look into it). I wanted to share what I did in the event that it helps someone at some point.
Anyway, I was having TONS of trouble getting the Metamorph themes of swype to work, as it tells you to look for the swype app here:
data/app/com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
But I simply did NOT have my swype installed there! I tried several things, took a while but here's the method that worked for me, if anyone else is having similar trouble but is too scared to ask about it (being that the given directions make it seem so simple, but you feel dumb when you can't freakin' figure it out!):
1. Go into root explorer, make sure you're in "RW" mode (click "mount RW" at the top if you aren't), and find system/app/ and find "swype.apk," this is where my swype was originally stored
2. Select "swype.apk" and choose "MOVE," and move it to anywhere that you'll remember, somewhere arbitrary that isn't a folder called "app" (this step is in case you screw something up). This is truly a redundant/paranoid step that I chose to do to make SURE that I have the pure, uncopied, original app somewhere safe.
3. Choose COPY and copy the app. Paste this app BACK into system/app.
4. RENAME this app exactly: com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk
5. REBOOT. Make sure swype is still working, it should be. If not, you named something improperly or put something in the wrong place.
NOW you can follow the pre-existing metamorph directions (already available elsewhere, several threads on here). I don't know who has that com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk in their data/app folder, but I never did. Confused the hell out of me. Now my swype looks DOPE, I'm using some naked version, I believe it's the version from Myn's warm, now in my Flipz Fresh rom! Loving it!
Hope this helps someone Photo attached, hopefully img codes work on this site (forgive newbieness plz)

good tips, I would also like to note that people that installed swype via apks downloaded elsewhere and sideloaded will have the apk named as your morph listed in the proper position. The reason why it was named swype.apk in system/apps is because since it was included in the Fresh build, he decided to make it a system app. Placing it in system/app iirc prevents it from being subject to market checks. I had to go the other way around cuz i modified a morph and swype would break after i applied it, so i had to apply it to the com.android version then rename and move it in to system/app
....oh the many versions of swype floating out there.

[Q] "Hello world, PM EasyView!"? Possible malware caught on screenshot?

I recently took a screenshot that revealed another background window behind a warning message window that says "Hello world, PM EasyView!"
Is this some kind of malware? I tried scanning my phone with Lookout Security and it did not detect anything suspicious.
It all began when all of a sudden my stock 2.2.2 Defy's Task Manager kept showing popup messages telling me that my Hotmail app is running for too long and is consuming memory. This never happened before, ie. Task Manager app showing warning messages about apps running for too long. I suspect a malware infestation. Please advise.

If you are scared that you are infected by malware the only "safe" thing to do is a full data wipe.
You dont have clockworkmod installed do you? Would be helpfull to have a full copy of the system to analyze it. I think clockworkmod would be a perfekt method to get a copy of the whole system.
sorry i don't know how to solve this. maybe it's time for you to change to some other ROMs...

Well not exactly scared but I was just wondering about the origin of that "Hello world" message. "PMEasyView"? I wasn't able to find any app or developer by that name among the apps installed on my phone. Just was wondering if anyone here knew thats all. I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick, does it install Clockworkmod too? Or do I have to do it separately?

I did install CM 7.1(2.3.7) but I didn't quite like it..I mean don't get me wrong..CM 7.1 is awesome but the ADW launcher kept crashing on me, something was eating up the battery way to fast and this is weird but I found that the sound quality(headphone and speaker) had actually deteriorated..maybe I didn't get some settings right but anyways I decided to roll back to the Motorola stock 2.2.2 froyo JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-36-1.7 and wait until CM9 was out.
Thanks for the replies guys..really appreciate you taking the time.

If adw doesn't work for you, you can download another one from the market. I use go launcher and it works without any problems and damn fast. You should give it a try.

Well it's typical behavior of mallware - I dont have information, that stock task manager will inform you, that some process is running more than x minutes ... try wipe to factory settings and you'll be sure.
Rooting doesn't install Clockworkmod. You only get superuser after rooting. Install 2nd-init and you get Clockworkmod.
You should start using Droidwall and AVG antivirus pro. Try limit the data freedom running in the background.
Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll wait for CM9. I do have Droidwall installed and I've scanned my phone thoroughly with Lookout Security but nothing was detected. Is it possible that the firmware posted here, the 2.2.2 India one is somehow infected?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093352
I took another screenshot of the supposed malware today, this time without the task manager message. I was able to dismiss the task manager message by pressing the search key somehow.
I have seen exactly that same message today. I thought I have been fairly careful about Malware. However, there was an update that was installed from marketplace today.
I wonder if it is possible to look at an update history.

Is the message window in your case appearing under the exact same circumstances as mine? Which ROM are you using? And also if its possible could you do an inventory of the all the apps installed on your phone, then perhaps we can pinpoint the source. Thanks for the reply.
