[Q] Idiot Q. Coredroid v3 or v1.7 ? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Very very new to android (less than a month!), got hold of a HD2, ran windows for about 10 minutes and then wiped it and loaded up coredroid v1.7. (using 2.2.1)
Now after a bit more nosing around, i've found there is a v3 (using 2.3.3), but it's confusing me as the 1.7 has a later release date and logically that should mean it's had more development, etc.
Now i see the main CD thread has a teaser vid of what could be v1.8 ....
Am i going mad or just being simple? (there is a viable third option of both!)
Thanks

2.2 versions is Froyo, 2.3 gingerbread
to much differences to list, just search froyo or gingerbread.

Froyo 1.7 or V1.7 is more stable everything works. V3 or gingerbread works but it is kind of slow its like running gingerbread on a cliq! all Gingerbread sense roms are still under development due to different issues pertaining to our HD2 kernels. regular gingerbread from Cyanogen(CM 7) and MIUI are more stable and everything works. A kernel is in progress to get sense running properly but it needs more development. we will probably have Ice Cream sandwich on our HD2 before that happens but thats just my opinion concerning the latter(kernel development). Hope this helps.

Much appreciated, thanks.

Decent Android 1.6 or 2.0 rom?

Hi, I just flashed the following ROM:
[ROM][32A][Nov07] MyHero 2.0.5 with Official SenceUI on HTC Kernel 2.6.27
Everything went well and it's working .. but it's runnin Android 1.5 I'd really like to start using Android 1.6 or even 2.0, but after searching many threads I cannot find one that is working properly (almost all have a vital component that isn't working, such as GPS or WIFI).
Can anyone tell me if there is an Android 1.6 or 2.0 ROM out there for Magic that is working properly?
Thanks!
I'm not sure about this but I thought cyanogens roms ran 1.6. (I've tried them on my 32a magic (using a port) and everything works)...that said.. you won't get the pretty Sense UI interface of myHero. As for 2.0 roms there is one where everything but the camera works. I'm waiting for cam support then upgrading.
Hey,
I've had the 32A Magic for a week now and have been switching back and forth between ROMs, trying to find one that suits me. Right now, I'm running GyD's 2.1.1 with SenseUI, but I'll be switching back to Cyanogen as soon as possible. As much as I love SenseUI, it's not worth the effort - most of the ROMs that came with it are either slow or unstable - or at least they were for me.
IMHO, you could try Cyanogen's 4.2.8 (released just a few hours ago) if you want a speedy vanilla interface or MyHero or JACHero if you want SenseUI.
I'm using MyHero atm and am really torn between SenseUI and 1.6, I really love the custom HTC apps for Mail and Contacts.. they are amazing. Hoping there will be a 1.6 (or later) ROM with SenseUI soon..
well the dwang rom 1.6 ver 1.13 is the best, but no sense ui.
here the link.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5132652#post5132652
this rom is fast and stable.5star
dwang is waiting for the camera driver to release a android 2.so you can try this o wait.
there's also RA that runs on 1.6 and is available for both 32A/B
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
dwang is for 32B... and as you've already noticed there isn't any fully working ROM based on 2.0 yet

CyanogenMod is most certainly available for 32A Magic's using bcrook's 32A/EBI1 port files. The first install can be a bit of a process - given Google's C&D on Mr Cyanogen which means he can't redistribute Google apps (i.e. gmail, market, sync, etc).
Basically you install an image which won't boot, but which installs the apps onto your device, flash the latest CyanogenMod (4.2.8 at the time of writing, although 4.2.8.1 isn't far away), and then bcrook's 32A port. All in all, it takes about five minutes tops.
Then you'll have a bleeding edge 1.6 Android, with a lot of 2.0 features. It's still 1.6 at its core though, although rumour has it Cyanogen is working on a 2.0 version once the drivers are available.
I'm now running the latest CyanogenMod on 32a. It's very fast and responsive.. but I miss the smoothness of SenseUI.
Looking forward to a 2.0 version.
HTC Tattoo or Click runs 1.6 with Sense
Since i was searching for a 1.6 ROM with the HTC Sense UI, i noticed that the Tattoo comes with 1.6 and Sense UI.
Is it not possible that someone can create a ROM based on that image? ( the screen size and type is different - 2.8" Resistive - does that make a difference? )

[Q] Froyo 2.2 ROM resembling original HTC one?

Hi all,
been playing around with my Magic last night and currently have the CM6 - FroyoRedux Mod v1.9 installed, gave the CM6-D/S a go as well but it didn't appear to have market?
Anyway, these roms do not look anything like the Froyo on my HTC Desire, if I recall correctly they are ported from/resemble Samsung Galaxy S?
Was wondering if there are any ROMs that do look and work like the original HTC one?
Cheers
//J
hey,
what you are looking for is roms with the HTC Sense user interface (your desire is running android 2.1 with the htc sense on top).
i don't know of any 2.2 roms that have sense, but if you don't mind having 2.1+sense then try RCMix from capychimp or Smoki from klothius. both in the development section/forum. if you just want to have the sense interface on your magic and don't need the latest android (2.1 or 2.2) then i'd really recommend cursorsense from cursor droid. that's a 1.5 rom with sense and it runs perfectly - you can even overclock the cpu up to 710mhz with that rom (of course you have to flash the overclocked kernel over the rom and then use the program setcpu to overclock the cpu). you'll find cursorsense and the thread that has the overclocked kernel in the "rom bible" thread in the development section/forum.
so:
2.2 + sense: don't think there's one out yet
2.1 + sense: RCMix or Smoki
1.5 + sense: cursorsense (fast, very, very stable no problems at all plus option to overclock cpu).
try them out if you like!
greetz,
vercetti.
Cheers for the reply!
I'm running 2.2 on the Desire though, they released it in the beginning of August.
To be honest I don't really know the differences between 1.5 and 2.1, might try all of your suggestions while I'm at it
//Joris
no prob,
biggest difference for me between 1.5 and 2.1 is that google maps has navigation feature. to get a good glance what the differences between the versions are i'd suggest to just google "android 1.5", "android 2.1" and look for a features/improvements/comparison list.
if you don't need the changes they made since 1.5 then definetely go with cursorsense + overclocked cpu. you won't regret it...
greetz,
v.

[Q] Just got my HD2...Which Android to use?

Hi:
I just got my Telstra HD2, and am very excited about installing Android on it but don't know which one to install. I also have a HTC Pure which I am also running Android on.
On the Pure, I boot into Windows 6x and then start another program called Haret something or another, and I then have Android.
I am looking for the same functionality on my HD2. I will basically use the HD2 Android for apps, and the HD2 Windows for Calls/Contacts/Calender, so I need to be able to switch back and forth via rebooting or some other way in an easy fashion.
Any links, suggestions would be greatly appreciated...and thank you in advance!

Before I switched to a NAND build I used this:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518
Check the forums - it's all a matter of taste! They're all good!
Hope this helps
If you want a Nand build to chose from, see this list [17 FEB]HD2 NAND BIBLE [roms][kernels][mods]
I aggree with jellywobbles on the SD build, it's sollid and fast.
The stuff in my SIG will work great
Dont hesitate and install the Hyperdroid GBX 5.0
Its by far superior to the rest in terms of speed, smoothness and unlike the others the creator actually helps you resolve your probs
cheers...
If you still want winmo, you must use a SD build... look in the SD development section for SD builds. It will work the same way with haret.exe, but you must also run clrcad first, then haret.exe.

Without doubt the best NAND ROM for the HTC HD2 you can get. That's the good news - bad news its has been removed from XDA due to GPL issues, so you'll have to hunt for it!
Be interesting to see just how long the links you posted stay here! No doubt a mod will edit your post & remove them!

Skink Clean Desire
I prefer the Sense UI. Basically the dhd and dz builds are great and have the new sense but i couldnt find a rom that was stable and ready for daily use.
Now i use the Skink Clean Desire 1.2.
Its fast, stable and battery-friendly, what more would you want?

What's the battery usage like?
My MDJ CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.6 with CWM build is awsome, and seems to run for ever. I switch my phone on @ 0530 & off at about 2300 & its often got about 40% left. I use it quite a lot in the day for SMS, eMail, WhatsApp, Bluetooth etc.
Personally I dislike the Sense UI, but with CWM installed on my HD2 I am always trying alternative builds! The joys of CWM eh?
May give it a whirl.
I remember well what it is, when you have to choose your first Android builds for your HD2. Now that I have used several ones, I can give you some advice.
First, keep it simple, and stay with pure SD builds. By this, you keep booting first in WM 6.5 just as you are doing now with your Pure, and you then boot Android with the usual CLRCAD and HARET. This can be fully automated by using EBL (Exceller boot loader). You always keep the possibility to quickly return to WM 6.5 in case something is wrong with the Android build.
Beware that for many builds which include "SD" in their name, they are not pure SD and require you to flash MAGLDR. When I mean pure SD builds, I speak about builds which do not require ANY flashing, which makes everything much more easy in the beginning. You will have plenty of time later to choose more sophisticated options.
Now, about choosing a specific SD build, it more depends about your taste and personal feeling. Don't blindly trust those who tell you that this one "is the best ever", you will find the same comment for every build.
You have basically two choices : builds with HTC Sense, and builds without.
Among the builds with Sense, I really liked "MDJ's froyo HD 4.6", but it has been removed (too long to explain here). I also liked the "darkstone SuperRAM Sense v0.1".
Among the builds without Sense, you will also have the opportunity to test the latest "Gingerbread" version of Android, which does not exist currently with "real" HTC Sense (beware of false claims in the title of the build).
Personally, I must tell that, now that I have discovered and used Gingerbread, I will not be able to go back to older Froyo.
I am currently using the "[FEB 16]AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB232" from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
and it works really really well. It is easy to install, just read all the first post AND the FAQ.
But don't expect any build to be perfect, that all have some glitches.
And again, in the end it is much about personal preferences.
I always have a delima of which one is the best. With the plethora of ROMs, it is hard to pick out the best.

Yes, I'm sure they are stable. I have been switching between both of them for the last month. I am happy with both Rom's. The camcorder issue is an issue with sense 3.0 roms on the HD2. The 3rd party apps can make it work but it will lag a bit...
WHEN and i mean IF my phone gets fixed, im switching up to boyppc ginger sense..I hear good things about it! anybody running his rom and what version? sorry for TJ'ing
Is there any newer version to gingerbread that can be installed on HD2 ?
Like android 3.1 or 3.2 ?
3 is honeycomb which is for tablets

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060 this one seems pretty stable.
If there will be an update of android for smartphones, i think it will be 2.4 and 2.5
2.3.5 is on it's way to the nexus s at the moment and cyanogen is qlready trying to implement it.
Stable versions where all is working are ndt miui 20.1 or hd2ginger or ndt ginger or hyperdroid ROMs. But most cm7 ROMs have higher battery drain than miui or stock ginger ROMs.
I am trying to flash teh steps in your link, but after I run ROMUpdateUtility, nothing is happeneing, it s always showing 0 % ...
any idea what to do ?
I tried both CLK and MAGLDR and both they show HTC screen, and teh bar stays on 0 % ...

If looking for non sensed roms, i recommend you to flash tytung's Nexushd2 v2.8 + GPS 1.8.. very stable no graphic glitch nor camcorder issue. GPC's pure gingerbread rom is also great but its discountinued since v2.6f
These roms are capable to play 720p of youtube
For the faster user interface, download launcher pro from market (the stock launcher is slow on our old hd2)
also these roms support cLK and MAGLDR

I'm new to the forums (of hd2, so new in the flashing progress)
Although, you have to install Hspl, I know from the touch diamond
I'm very sorry, but got nothing to test it on, got an HD2 in 3 weeks...
Need to wait Maybe an other member can help

A Bit Puzzled

I revisited the HD2 recently because of so many tasty Android Roms available for it.
Only to find that the in call volume is deafingly Loud & no fix.
So my question, apart from is there a fix, why bother putting android on a handset that is unusable do to this issue.
I for one cannot hold the phone with 12" of my ear cause its so loud even with the volume as low as it will go.
Yes there is a fix, but I can't link it cos I've never needed to investigate it,, for me two clicks worth of voldown is fine. Go read the android section, there are loads of references to "in call volume"

Wow, that'd blow my ears out.
Can someone provode a link to the fix?
Bumping up this thread as not many people seem to want to post in it.
Thoughts please?
Which Android ROM are you using?
I never had this issue with any of the roms I used, currently using Hyperdroid CM7 and the in call volume is fine, able to turn it down and up without problems and it's not to loud if I don't turn it all the way up..

Assuming you use Clockworkmod, have you tried fixing permissions?
have you tried any roms without sense? (shouldn't matter really but testing doesn't hurt)
And have you tried reverting back to WinMo to see if it's a hardware fault?
Since you tested this many roms the problem might be in your radio (HSPL) or bootloader (Magdlr/Clk), try reinstalling them
hope this helps

I retried & it was still very loud, if i turned volume to full & then to min during a call it did fix it, but the HD2 runs like a dog, so I'm gonna call it a day with HD2 & stick to a phone that can run it without all this messing around.
Time to retire the HD2 & stop fooling myself
hehe I hear that more from people with Sense roms.
Without sense the only real problem the hd2 has is the battery life.. personally that's not a big problem to me
