Nexus s Price drop in UK

I know this is the Nexus One forum, but for those wishing to upgrade to the Nexus S, Carphonewarehouse in the UK has just dropped the price of the Nexus S from £549 to £430 the day before its release here in the UK. Perhaps Google are not that confident that this was a fitting upgrade from the Nexus One
I think it's more to do with Google's target market this time round compared to the N1. Most N1owners tend to be more knowledgeable users, whereas this time they are trying to break into the general buying public. Do you think the average Joe and Barbie would pay £549 for a Nexus S when they can buy an iPhone 4 for £499?

I see your point although why they priced it at £549 in the first place if they were pitching it towards the "Joe and Barbie" brigade is beyond me!
Alot of UK pricing tend to favour a 1:1 £:$ conversion ratio just because they can get away with it. But people nowsdays are getting smart and are willing to import due to the ease of internet buying. At $529 at todays rate (1.55 curtosy of xe.com) would be £341 and assuming the increse of VAT after Christmas come up £409, add postage to that it's pretty close to £430.
Carphonewarehouse is smart to price it as £430. If they kept it at £549 they would lose out to the average Joe with the cheaper iPhone 4, and also lose out to better informed buyers by getting a much better deal getting it imported.
I feel i got alot more of a phone for my money with my nexus one than i would with a nexus s. I ordered my nexus one straight from google in the states in febuary for $577. Which, once converted was about £370. Which is a pretty good deal at the time. I just dont see the nexus s being worth the extra £50.
Im waiting for something dual core and gingerbread from HTC. Ill be willing to part with my cash for something like that.
I paid around £360 for my Nexus One on release myself. I'm not sure about you, but for myself DHL never billed me for the VAT. But many other members of XDA weren't so lucky, being slapped with a £60 VAT bill around a month later, which works out at around £420.
Well if you really wanted to, you could import an Nexus S from the US, hoping you don't get slapped with a VAT bill. The major couriers like DHL, UPS and FedEx will bill you for the VAT. DHL and FedEx tend to send the invoice later, but UPS do give you a choice to pay on delivery.

Xoom Price Drop

Ok I just bought my Xoom (Wifi Only) yesterday and already there is a price drop from $599.99 to $589.99.......
Not complaining cause I love my Xoom. I was up using it for 7 hours straight until my wife game me a dirty look....... (was about 1:00 am. then)
For all of us who bought the Xoom at BestBuy I would suggest taking your receipts back and having them refund you the difference (including tax). Since they do have a 30 day price match guarantee.

My experience with the Motorola store was anything but hassle free. It took repeated phone calls and a total time period of 6 weeks before I received a credit for returned merchandise. Although everyone I spoke with in my frequent phone calls was pleasant, there appeared to be zero follow through. In my opinion, they are an example of a terrible business model. There are several posts on another forum that would confirm this.
That xoom is a refurbished unit....
i google and found the price of Xoom is $799, but the wifi xoom only $600.
$569 at Walmart.com. I was able to price match with Military Exchange to get that price tax free w/free shipping.
32GB Transformer w/ NY tax & shipping that I was going to get is almost the same price.
Dumped the acer and bought a xoom again after returning it when it first came out as wifi. It is much better now with the update but as far as price goes, I picked up an open box one at best buy for 539.00 It still had the original clear plastic on the tablet. basically it was new. Anyway, running on 3.1 now and happier than a pig in s**t
Woopie!!! need to replace my laptop

[attention][amazon][fraud]

Hey guys!
Be careful when bying from Amazon.
This article : http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Fit-Sc..._12?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1312986724&sr=1-12
for example.. seems extremely cheap, 2 cents for 2 screen protectors.. Catch: 2,75 Transportation.
Now, for every package of these you'll pay another 2,75 $ Transportation.. up to 65 bucks.
When something seems to good to be true, it usually is.
Regards,
HeartHC0re
That's not fraud, just shipping charges. $2.77 is very reasonable for a pair of screen protectors... I can almost guarantee the quality won't be very high, but the deal would progress soundly and without error, so it wouldn't be fraud.
The same thing happens on eBay all the time for people who wanna use shipping to dodge ludicrous payment extractions... like a $20 bluetooth keyboard that charges $40 in shipping. Happens all the time, and it's no fraudulent action.
Also if you see its through an Amazon vendor not Amazon themselves, $2.75 is reasonable, and many times if you contact them they are willing to combine shipping especially on small items like that. If you click in and order 20 of them without telling anyone then the system doesn't know to not charge you that.
Also, if you have ever sold anything through amazon, they put the shipping in for you based on the item and destination. The seller doesn't even have the option to select the postage

Technically, this isn't fraud, they are just screwing you on shipping. Who knows? maybe it actually costs them this much to ship it...

[Q] Do you think there will be any Nexus 7 discounts/sales?

Hey everyone,
Bargain shopper here and have always been looking at slickdeals.net for deals on electronics. Rarely do I buy electronics full price (frugal mentality I suppose, and possibly a bad thing). Nonetheless just looking for opinions, what do you all think? Thanks for any input
I doubt it, the Nexus 7 is being sold at cost price and Google is subsidising the cost of marketing the device themselves - and probably also giving ASUS more money so that ASUS continue to make a profit.
It costs ~$200/~$250 to MAKE the device. Isn't that the cheapest price you'd be able to find anywhere for any item?
We've already had them here for £189 delivered reduced from £200 plus delivery so there should be some margin.
However the Pound is greater than the USD, so your £200 is approx $310... (right?)
I wouldn't expect to find the Nex7 cheaper until there have some some refurb units. I've seen the Fire go as low as $140, but that was about six months after its release. Until all orders are filled, and there is a decent surplus, i would expect prices on ebay to be greater than or equal to what you would find on the Google Play store or in most other retailers.

£159 + 20% VAT = £199
£40 in Tax is the killer here
Cool thanks for the input!

Worked like a charm thanks for the input! BTW -- for others taking advantage of this opportunity, don't forget to use the coupon code: JULY4, which will knock $15.00 off the sale price of $249.00. And, of course, no sales tax, unless you live in the state of New York.
And opt for the standard UPS shipping, $1.29 to where I live, because the free shipping delivers it to a post office near you and you got to go pick it up.
Now, I'll have to call Google Play and cancel my pre-order.
ahh I cant wait to get this tablet, last week I was about to buy the kindle fire untill i saw the ads of the nexus 7

Just got this deal too! Amazing! But the previous link is dead. here is the new link:
http://www.jr.com/order/basket.jsp?...Hash=0a2ace30df7d42028f38788bbc64e14d7ffee550
Don't forget the July4 promo code!
Also, the free shipping uses UPS to ship to your USPS post office, THEN Usps delivers to your door. It happens all the time buying from amazon. Just sucks if your mailbox is too small. Then USPS will leave you a slip to go pick it up.
I was going to pre-order from gamestop today, GLAD I WAITED!
OH! Also note: They will only ship to paypal confirmed addresses, so if your address isn't confirmed, you will have to pay with a credit card and manually type your Shipping info.
ALSO: If you use a MASTERCARD credit card (not debit) They will not charge you until it ships. So A) no balance as of yet, and B) when you are charged you know they shipped.
Do this now! Because they already took the Nexus 7 off their main page! Only a matter of time before they fix this link too!

Radio Shack - $10 back for each $50 spent so I bought the Nexus 7, 32GB

Radio Shack currently has a deal that for every $50 spent, you get $10 back in store credits. There are some limitations like how many coupons a person can receive and also how many coupons can be used for an individual purchase. You're limited to one coupon per purchase. Click <here> for the Radioshack.com site's deal.
Radioshackwireless.com bought purchases don't apply and there are a few other restrictions on what you buy that doesn't qualify, but, the good news is that there are several tablets you can purchase like the Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7 where I believe you can make use of the store credits.
Also, they're offering free ground shipping for orders over $50.
So, I pulled the trigger and bought a Nexus 7 at $249.99 + tax and I'm watching my email for the $10 coupons that are supposed to arrive soon. I should receive four $10 coupons and if I had thought about what I was doing, I would have found another item for less than $10 to get a 5th coupon and basically get that item for free. I should never shop until after my first cup of coffee is gone but the Nexus 7 at basically the cheapest I think you can find these anywhere for a 32GB version isn't too bad so I'm not going to beat myself up on this one.
But then you have to buy more stuff at radio crap. Not a bad deal tho I suppose

Excellent deal, was able to purchase a n7 for a friend. Thanks
Well I figure I can always use batteries for the multiple remotes in our household. RadioShack isn't one of my first choices typically either but I found a few things I'd be able to buy with the four $10 store credits.
They have an APC uninterruptible power supply I'll probably pick up. It's listed at $59.99 at the moment and has free shipping. Take $10 off and it isn't too bad of a deal. For a techie, something like this wouldn't be too bad of a gift come to think of it. There are a bunch of other useful things that don't cost too much like bulbs, fuses, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide sensors, etc.
I was a bit concerned at first, but I couldn't pass up the deal since they had the 32GB in stock with free shipping and this incentive so I'm sure I'll be able to spend the $40 without going too much over the amount and still get useful items I would have had to find elsewhere anyway. We have a lot of family nearby so it seems we're always looking for some kind of small gift.
I received a 'shipped' notice already so two days from now this new toy will be in my grubby little hands getting customized for hours until I'm too tired to hold onto it any more.
I'm glad someone else has found this deal useful. What a lucky friend!
