Question - Droid X General

Hey I have a g2x nut a few of my friends have the Droid x I am fully rooted and running custom roms some of my friends want in on the action. So how hard is it to root thus phone? I heard that verizon phone s have locked bootloaders which makes it harder. A 5 year old can root the g2x. So what are the steps?

Its fairly easy. I just rooted my Droid X on Sat and i downloaded my first custom rom last night it is very easy. I would suggest going to droidmodderx.com and visiting his youtube droidmodderx. Droid X does have a bootloader app that you have to install Droid 2 Bootloader. Just visit his site and youtube and follow directions. Its very easy.

[Q] Themes for Rooted Stock FRG22D on Droid 1?

Had my Droid 1 now for about 7 months, love it, but have always wondered about rooting. Finally did it last night with this great, easy method via Android Forums and Droid Forums - way to root FRG22D without downgrading first, using SDK, Motorola drivers, and rageagainstthecage. Long story short, unless I've missed something, what I have now is stock FRG22D rooted.
Question from this noob is - Are there themes for stock, rooted FRG22D or do I have to load something like Cyanogen or Bugless in order to get any other themes at all?
Apologies if I'm totally missing the boat here...
Load cm6 there are tons of themes, and the rom rules. I'm sure you'll love it as much as i do.

Google the Droid 3 root method. It is very straightforward and also works on the stock OTA .602 Droid X build.

If you have no desire to step on the wild side and free up you X you can keep it as a backup or sell it. but if you want to take a ride on the wild side i would root it and enjoy some of the open source benefits that android has to offer like more customization, Roms. ( essentially a unlocked modded version of android software) even look up threads for getting the latest android os (jelly bean which i have on my droid 1) that's beyond what Verizon and Motorola has labeled suitable to run on that phone. there's tons more stuff you can do
I have thought about rooting it and putting a rom on it then selling. I took the .621 ota. Since its harder to root em i seen they sell better. Im just a noob to the whole thing. I bricked it awhile ago flashing it to milestone overwrote the radio. Made the mistake of trying to flash it to .605 (bad mistake). I have thought about just using my dx to practice with.

I run a rooted and rom'd DX on the .621 as my daily driver and there is in fact a root method that doesn't require the .604 method, but some people are reporting issues with things like custom recovery working properly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823112
This is the thread to the root method I use anytime I have to SBF my phone because I screwed something up. It's really really easy and only takes 5-10 minutes.

[Q] Clockworkmod for the Razr M?

Hey guys! I'm new to this site but I know a little bit about stuff like this. I just rooted my Razr M and for some reason I can't flash clockworkmod recovery. Does anyone know when it's coming out? Thanks!

Honestly with a locked bootloader progress will be very slow. It's the one thing keeping me from trading in my s3 for one, I love the smaller size.

Looks like Hashcode may be working on CWM for the Razr HD and possible Razr M at some point. From his Twitter @Hashcode0f yesterday:
"sent me over everything I need to start working on a Safestrap for the RAZR-HD. I can probably do a build for RAZR-M as well."
If you don't know Hashcode he is an amazing dev that has Safetrap (which is a method to install CWM/TWRP on Motorolas with locked bootloaders) working on the Droid 3, 4, Bionic and OG Razr. Along with some help from others he has also got kexec working on these devices which allows you to bypass the locked bootloader and load a custom kernel.

Thanks this is promising! Thanks for the update. I don't know much about the Motorola devs so this is cool!

I also started following him on twitter. Luckily the Razr HD will have a good following and thus means the M too. Someone looks to have the dev phone for M so we'll see how far we get.

The M is a great phone. I haven't used the HD yet but I hear a lot of good stuff about it. I just like the look of the M and the screen size. I can't wait until some new ROMs come out for it.

Follow Hashcode0f on Twitter for updates. On the 24th he when someone asked his about safe strap for the Razr M he said: "Yes. Working on some bugs with the new splashscreen supporting softkeys." He recently switched to TWRP instead of CWM for Safestrap so it sounds like he is working on that for the Razr M and I imagine the HD eventually. Hashcodes working on a bunch of devices, Kindle Fire, Droid 3, Bionic, Razr, Droid 4, and sounds like he's starting on more. Droid 3 users were left on GB with a locked bootloader and he has been able to, with the help of others, use a kexec bootloader bypass to give us a 3.x custom kernel and CM9/CM10.
I've been watching the Razr M forums, because I'm thinking it will be my next phone. I can't stand all of these large phones, I want something pocketable, but with decent specs and build quality. I've been impressed with the build quality and radios on Motorola hardware, not so impressed with the lack of software updates, but I think with new management that is going to change. The Razr M is the only phone I've seen in a while on Verizon that fits my requirements.

Aussie M user here (GSM not CDMA) but I can tell you that you won't be sorry its the best phone I"ve ever owned (and I had a N1! lol)
You can also follow dhacker29 on Twitter. He is another Motorola dev that has recently begun working with the Razr M. He has a developer edition with a custom kernel booted as seen here:
http://via.me/-6cs9kag
He mentioned making his work available on the locked Ms someday. If they can get the kexec bootloader bypass working with safestrap then the locked Razr Ms will become a lot more dev friendly.
clockwork recovery
I have Droid razr m 4.1.1 (Rooted)
am looking for clockwork recovery mode
So that I may...
1. backup and save current rom.
2. Install and use other rom's.
It's a headache searching endless forms for proper link that gives download.
If anyone can help and post a reply. It would be p.I.m.p

safestrap does that for you. it allows you to backup your current system with various ROM slots.

Vitreous Rom on newly unlocked XT926

For those of you who, like myself, have been dying to put our newly unlocked devices to use, I just thought I would share that I am currently running Vitreous 1.9.3 (rootwiki) as my one and only rom. I flashed it using twrp (hashcodes latest) after backing up my stock rom. I also flashed the gapps indicated for the rom. I was kind of expecting some problems, but it went every bit as easy in the real recovery as it did in SS. Anyway, I am hoping that some of the talented devs out there will build us a shiney new rom worthy of this new development, but for the time being, there is the only slightly less shiney Vitreous rom. Happy day!
Nice! I take it you mounted system in TWRP? Also, what all did you wipe? I think I'm going to remove SS, install TWRP, and flash the 2.0 beta Jake released.

Can anyone point me towards a good tutorial on how to flash TWRP or CMW? Also, is the CMW touch version available for the Razr HD? I am currently rooted and unlocked on 4.1.2 and just need to install a recovery.
Any help would be appreciated.

after flashing TWRP I backed up stock then performed factory reset (no storage wipe) then flashed ROM as and then gapps separately then rebooted and did initial config in ROM. Then rebooted back to recovery and flashed gapps again(this fixes a bug I experienced with no softkeys. Finally, rebooted and voilà. Vitreous

Same here. It looks nice but isn't ready for prime time yet. But to be fair, there isn't a single ROM out there yet that is as good as the stock Moto ROM. Not the devs fault, but with a locked bootloader and so few people having root all this time, this amazing phone has been largely passed over by the dev community, Simply wasn't worth their time.
That may change a little now that it is unlocked, but at this point the phone is several months old and devs are looking forward to the HTC One, SGS4, etc... So my fear is too little, too late.
There will be a small handful of half-baked ROMs for this phone and that's about it.
I think the MAXX HD is a beast of a phone and hope the dev community will embrace it and it's potential.
