Does your tf101 work slow on portrait mode? - Eee Pad Transformer General

Its really annoying, its work very slow on portrait mode
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

nope, mine works fine. give us a little more info. you stock, custom rom, rooted?

they run slower in portrait becuse of how tegra 2 renders the screen
"And if the slowdown in Honeycomb portrait came from a bug in the nVidia driver?
Honeycomb on the tablets are much less fluid in portrait mode. It would be a bug in the nVidia driver (Tegra 2). While you wait impatiently all the famous complete test of the Motorola Xoom, you should know that Honeycomb is not always very well optimized. On Android 3.1, the situation is improving logically, but is unworthy of what can be found on smartphones. This syndrome is especially noticeable when the tablet is in portrait mode to landscape and sometimes reversed. Initially, we thought it was the system itself, but in reality the problem could be different. If you notice, the shelves on this version of Android use, for now, all a nVidia Tegra 2 (Motorola Xoom, Acer Iconia Tab A500, Asus EeePad Transformer …), the HTC Flyer will soon have access to the Qualcomm processor . The generalization of the problem as coming Honeycomb system would be false and in fact a driver problem!
A bug open since April 4 (the Motorola Xoom was in 3.0.1), we can read this comment in particular the flow of responses:
“As I said, this specific problem is not related to Honeycomb, but the GPU’s Tegra 2, which under certain conditions (portrait mode) is not able to offer the same kind of performance that landscape.
We should wait for a new driver from Nvidia or something similar that will fix the problem. ”
This answer was arrived May 15, just for the Google I / O, which was expected as the 3.1 correct the problem. Unfortunately, it is not. Since the time that the bug exists, it is very likely that Google holds a patch for this driver. But how is it that he does not send this patch, while the image on the shelves Honeycomb is heavily tainted?"

ELocity A7

I bought a g tablet. I feel close to it given I put in more than 30 hours going through different beta versions of alternate roms trying to get things the way they should be since out of the box it was a piece of crap. Being in canada I had driven to nearest Sears in US to Purchase it. Before the screen calibration fix I had essentially given up the inability to type properly and the horrible viewing angles and Sd card woes had me looking elsewhere.
Having tried the more expensive Galaxy Tab and finding it laggy and flash video unviewble, I decided I needed a Tegra based device. I also felt for my needs 7 inches might be better as I find typing in landscape mode hard with a 10 incher(hmm weird genital reference there LOL). I also feel that for my needs (book reading, surfing video watching, the odd game, and quick reference use) that the smaller form fact might be better given it is lighter and more portable (can fit in coat pocket....)
Heard about the ELocity and saw it available for 100$ less than what ipaid for g tab. so ordered it to my Brother's in Florida as will be there next week. It is already there waiting for me.
Of course since ordering it not having given the g tab back yet I have it working the way I want minus the screen viewing angles which I hate as I cant type on it when lounging unless holding it awkwardly in landscape mode using my thumbs.
Seems the Elocity has much better screen in terms of viewing angles. While lower res, the DPI is in fact the same and conforms to the Android OS max resolution of 800x480 so I suspect most apps will look correct on it. It also appears to come rooted out of the box. The UI layer on it is fast and responsive and flash is there to start. So for those considering a g tablet and don't want to muck around it works much better out of the box.
Seems it is not perfect yet and suffers many of the same issues the G tablet did:
Like the gtablet there is no official android market
Wifi for some seems to not wake up with the device from sleep
Angry birds won't run
All of the above from what I have read seem to be related to drivers and tegra 2 not having the best or newest ones out of the box.
Elocity says a fix is coming on december 24th (wonder if this is similar to what was done by Roebeet et al. with TNT light and Vega N with the performance upgrades form experimental diver pack)
Multitouch which is supposed to be 1+1 (which I believe is what the gtab is) doesn't seem to be enabled properly and is only emulated in software, and as of yet, not very well.
Seems from some things discovered on a different thread that this might be a 2 point multitouch after all.
For some reason there is no Elocity forum yet which I think could impede people coming on and helping development on it (Notion Ink Adam has a forum though there is no device in the wild for another month at least). I suspect given these are both Tegra 2 devices that there might be some parallel things to help.

gtablet Adobe Flash update
Greetings, this may be something and may be nothing.
Just FYI –
I talked to Mike at Viewsonic support on 20101220 3:34p PST.
He advises that Staples had an in store warranty conflict and no manufacturing defect exists with the gtablet. The update scheduled for 20101219 is posted and done so in such a way that some folks see it auto-download with WIFI and some will not for approx 24 to 48 hours.
Mike also advises that the Adobe Flash update IS NOT part of the latest update however he says it is still in the works and will be updated soon.
I am still contemplating whether to return mine or not. I have had it for 27 days and it has been absolutely fabulous and beyond my expectations less the FLASH player.
I need INPUT INPUT INPUT.
Thanks - feel free to email me –

Can't wait
I rooted my wife's HTC Desire since it took forever for Froyo. My phone is a WinMo 6.1 HTC Touch Pro. Love it, but Android is much more user friendly.
I am anti-"any product that starts with lower case i" and I'm looking for a good tab. If the patch comes out on the 24th as promised, I'm ready to pull the trigger.
The price is just right IMHO for this tab. However, depending how dev on this tab progresses after the new update, I may wait to see what's coming at CES.
Unfortunately for my wallet, I'm an instant gratification kind of guy. I can't build my $1600 gaming rig just yet, but this just might tide me over. I'm so tired of my netbook for menial tasks. Video playback sucks.
So... who else is stoked about the A7?
Post Firmware Update
Just ordered my from J&R Music. They had it for 299.99. Once I saw the performance increase with the new update, as well as some tweaks from our freinds at XDA, it was a done deal.
Ordered an 16 Micro SD with it, and I couldn't be more excited. I just sold my netbook, and this will its replacement. The netbook was great for light surfing, Skype, and email. It chugged at everthing else. Intel's GMA graphics on netbooks just suck! Here comes nVidia!
elocity
I just ordered from shopnbc. I used the flexpay option as this option is more pocket friendly for me at the moment. I'm returning my nook color because tomorrow marks the 14th day and won't be returnable after 15 days. The video presentation on that site played angry birds, video and flash on a website without issues. I can't wait till it gets here!

I took a hit for the team... I modded my eLocity to the newest modware; eLocityMod 1.4.1. Now all my downloaded games, and apps work PERFECT. I now have the Google Market as well as the Amazon AppStore. Angry Birds RIO works like a dream ! The only problem I am having with the new Mod is that I can not hot swap USB drives. I got to boot up the device with the USB thumb drive already inserted so that the eLocity will recognize it.

Looking for feedback Which tablet Acer or Asus

I have the A500 and its okay. I also have the Transformer arriving on the 13th. I would say that I'm 75% happy with the a 500. The main problems I have:
GPS doesn't work without wifi
At times it can be sluggish
Random unresponsiveness and I need to reset
Screen turns on while sleep
A lot of F/C with stock launcher and browser
Screen has got stuck between applications ex. Switching from launcher to browser I can see both and I need to press the back button to unfreeze it.
So I want some feedback from people that have experienced both tablets. Any advice would be appreciated
The Asus has its shares of problems as well. Some people are complaining about gaps between the screen and bezel that lead to dust under the screen, dead pixels, device not coming back from sleep until reset, etc. But it seems to be few and far in between that these issues are occurring.
I don't have either device, but I would stand behind Asus any day over Acer. As far as the specs go, the Transformer definitely has the edge in my opinion. Aside from it being cheaper, it has the revolutionary dock option (keyboard), IPS display, superior battery life, slimmer and ligher design, etc. The only advantages to the Acer A500 is the full-size USB port and camera flash.
All in all, I am almost positive that you will be returning the A500 when the Transformer arrives.
The only issue you mentioned I've heard about on the transformer is random unresponsiveness and need to reset.
These problems you seem to be describing seem to be shortcomings of the Honeycomb OS rather than device specific. You will probably encounter similar problems with any honeycomb device, for now, until future software updates are seen.
For the GPS, you're going to have to find a preloaded map GPS app, such as CoPilot when working away from wifi. Another workaround is, tethering to a 3g/4g enabled device such as a smartphone
I personally think they are both great tablets, but it all comes down to personal preference really. does I PS screen matter to all no but to some it does, same with USB port. There both amazing tablets but all as I will say and stand firm to personal preference. I love my iconia but I may switch to Asus for I PS that is my need gut not to everyone,

[Q]Help me choose: Transformer or IConia A500.

Greetings to you all.
I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I am having a heck of a time choosing between these two tablets.
Acer Iconia Pros:
Nice size
better front camera
Has a LED Flash
AFAIK a STOCK version of HC.
Has better sound ( Dolby )
REAL USB 2.0 port ( full size )
EASY TO FIND!!!!!
Cons:
Heard that Playing 1080p HD Video is horrible ( according to reviews that I have seen on youtube ) ( I consider 1080p to be be HD while 720p is more medium def )
Heard that it is not Gorilla Glass ( although I saw a thread that proved otherwise )
Heard that video recording and pics are "meh" at best.
Locked bootloader * Thanks to Lorimere for telling me about that *
and onto the Transformer:
Pros:
Slightly better battery life
IPS Panel Display
Dock that doubles as battery extender
Cons:
Aparently the Transformer has a LOT of issues. Sleep of Death, Non responsive screen, dock problems, massive light bleeding
So I was wondering what you guys would think? Give me your honest opinions ( as long as they are polite....I have no tolerance for rudeness )
I already have a Galaxy Tab 7 inch and a iPad 1 wifi 16GB.....so those who like to say "Get a ipad and be happy with it" Been there. LOL!!!!!
I have had both. And honestly you can't go wrong with either one.
I decided to keep the Acer for 2 reasons.
1) the USB host on the tablet. (after using both, I realized I really didn't need the dock, so the Iconia won here) ** just to add I use the USB port a lot, so for me tablet without it now is a no-go **
2) The build quality on the Iconia was better than on my Transformer.
If I was going to use and carry the dock a lot, the transformer would be better. But In the 2 weeks of having them both, I only felt the need for a real keyboard once. And plugging in a usb keyboard for that hour i needed it worked great.
The Transformer screen is nicer though (mine only had a very small amount of light bleed.). The Acer screen is not bad by any means, but the transformers colors were better. (but after selling my transformer I don't really miss its screen honestly.)
The only thing that keeps me from 100% recommending the Iconia is the locked bootloader. I think it will be cracked or unlocked eventualy. But the fact is as of now it is still locked.
Hmm.....did not know about the locked bootloader. Good to know. Thank You.
I have had two acer iconias. Now I have the asus transformer. And I love it very much. The asus screen is better and this tablet preforms better. The acer constantly woke up on it's on. And if left in stand by for long periods of time the screen would become unresponsive. The only way to fix this problem was to do a hard reset.
Both tablets are very good, but the asus just wins in every category except sound. Not to mention it has great software. Mycloud, Mynet, and slashtop are all exclusive to asus. And the support for acer is lacking. Asus on the other hand has issued four updates each with detailed change logs. And asus will released Honeycomb 3.1 tomorrow 5/31.
So don't believed the bad news about asus transformer all the bugs have been rectified in a timely manner. I have only had my transformer for a week and I have not experienced one problem, besides minor light bleeding. I also have the asus dock and functionality is remarkable. Two usb ports and sd card slot, and a touch pad, with a extra battery. I'm completely satisfied
I had 2 Transformers and returned them both because of excessive light bleed and a gap in the bezel on the upper left hand side which would allow dust behind the screen.
That said, if they have fixed these build quality issues and weight vs connectivity is not an issue for you then the Transformer is the better tablet, certainly in the screen department.
If weight vs connectivity is an issue for you then the Acer is a better tablet, simply because to get similar on the move connectivity as the Acer, the Transformer has to be carried with the optional keyboard dock which essentially turns it into a netbook, and doubles the weight to a hefty 1.4kg vs the Iconia 765g.
As for software glitches and random screen ons, not really an issue for me. Honeycomb is still pretty much a work in progress, and in it's current state it does everything I need it to, and therefore for me it will only get better as Acer release updates.
If you do go for the Transformer then load up a black jpeg, go into a darkened room and whack the brightness up to full to check for light bleed, because for me that was a deal breaker. A simply stunning IPS screen like that hampered by shoddy build quality just wasn't acceptable.
If you want to know what I mean, this is the level of bleed I got on both my Transformers, though not forgetting that they may well have sorted out their manufacturing issues for later batches.

At first I wondered about the $50 difference in the two. After playing with the Asus at Bestbuy and reading reports I think build quality is one major reason the Acer is so much more. It's well worth it in my opinion, although the locked boot loader for me is a big regret(I'm a big FOSS advocate)
I really agree with Lorimere. The USB port is really useful for me. And the USB port can be use for keyboard and mouse, too!
Actually I really wanted to try Transformer. But ASUS reps in my country (Indonesia) were really don't know when the tablet will go on sale. ASUS really need to fix this. Some are selling it through forums, but it's way too expensive. 16 GB Transformer worth the same as 32 GB Iconia!
I just got update from @acerID (ACER Indonesia twitter reps account), that lots of Iconia accessories will start coming in right away. Yaayy, finally!
As most posts above have stated, the biggest differences are:
USB Host: Acer (built-in) vs. ASUS (on dock)
Display: ASUS generally better than Acer's (unless you get a unit with light bleed)
Build quality: Acer generally feels better made than ASUS
Bootloader: ASUS has an unlocked bootloader vs. Acer's locked
For me the biggest thing in this list is the onboard USB host. Being able to plug in a USB drive without having to carry around essentially 1/2 of a netbook to dock the unit into is a major win for the Acer.
The display issue is really pretty minor I think, unless you want to set your tablet up on a desk and watch a movie while moving around, in which case the ASUS' ISP display will be better with less viewing angle restrictions.
Other items to consider:
ASUS ships with Exchange support, although that's been added in the latest firmware update to Acer's tab; in addition, rooted Acers are able to use the ASUS apk, and some Market Apps (Touchdown is my favorite right now, particularly with the $7.99 pro license from Amazon appstore vs. $19.99 normally)
Update frequency: ASUS has apparently been pushing updates out more frequently
ASUS is more likely to get 3.1 update out first, although Acer's also said they'll be shipping it in June (test of ASUS' 3.1 has already been spotted)
Acer has better sound system (Dolby Mobile)
Final thoughts:
The issue w/ the Acer screen coming back on randomly appears to have been resolved in the latest firmware (mine hasn't turned itself back on since the .114 update).
ASUS in general appears a bit more committed to the Android platform than Acer (at least after the replacement of their prior CEO.)
Oh yeah, and you can BUY the Acer a lot more easily than the ASUS
The only reason the Asus has gotten more updates is because it had way more bugs than the Acer initially....

Sorry, but that is just FUD!
There are plenty of reasons to pick an Acer over an Asus, and vice-versa, but this frankly isn't true.

A Very Big +1
Don't need updates every week for something that isn't broke.
I have had generic tablets. Viewsonic G.tablet. Xoom. And tried the transformer of a friend(he later returned it for Acer). I am very happy, with my A500 as is my friend. Sure there are a couple bugs here and there...but for 98% of the time I use my tablet...it just works. I pick it up and it almost seems eager to do all I want it too.
As for what to pick...want a tablet...get the Acer....want a net book with identity crisis...get the Asus. Or sit on the fence...a few months down the road...bigger names will enter the game and may have a more current version of honeycomb or ice cream sandwich or whatever google finds in their cafateria that sounds tasty :-D
Hi,
i have hesitate for a long time between transformer and a500. And now, don't know why so long hesitating, because a500 is far more efficient than the transformer.
My unique "regret" is the non avaibility of the 16Gb version wich is at the same price than the 16gb transformer.
Transformer is the tablet who makes you dream when you have to buy : ips is the best, the dock is nice idea, water theme is fun... But in reality, i can't find one to buy where i live. An more, if i want usb, have to buy the heavy dock (big major issue). The IPS is really nice... IF it's perfect as ipad... and it's not ! because quality built of transformer is not as good as it seems to be. Asus is active about their transformer (updates), because they are in late, it's seems have been built in emergency at many points, to solve now.
Acer is far more efficient. no hard (and loose time) developpment for any dock to fixed to the tablet, used spva screen which is really availlable (all ips are used by ipad), full simple connectivity, don't loose time on thick (like samsung), don't loose time on weight (few grams more and so ?), and maybe some less quality "electronics" (wifi, gps ?). But the tablet is really available, even here in martinique (it's a sign^^), and it really works well in my hand, it's a fact, it's not a dream, it's a fact.
For the updates activities : asus want to do well and have to work hard to be really good if they want to follow acer tab a500 who already sell their tablet in mass. Acer seems more confiant in their product, take time for update and 3.1.
at this time i have NO reasons to wait transformer, and for sure if acer know that, asus know that too
What akwaba972 said is exactly how I felt. I'm no longer thinking of Transformer right now. It's sweet, but if you can only dream of it, forget it!
Which way do I go!!!
I too am torn between the Transformer and the A500. I do not have either one of them but first leaned to the Transformer because of it low price. But one could not get it anywhere around. Since then I have been reading and now lean toward the A500 because of the USB ports. I may be a few bucks more but seem like a better build.
Thanks!!
Well it appears that fate has smiled upon me. I just got $400CDN from a friend of mine that I forgot owed me money! I have then decided to get BOTH....for now.
The Acer Iconia will be purchased when I can get up to Owen Sound Staples or will be ordered from NCIX.
The ASUS Transformer has been already ordered from NCIX and has been shipped already ( 16GB Variant ) and depending on the quality and on how I like it then and only then will I purchase the dock.
I will continue this thread to help other people out and see how these two tablets fare. If I decide to keep them both then I will sell my iPad as I will have no use for it. ( Wifi 16GB 1st Gen )
bear in mind, the asus transformer is getting a 3.1 update today, so it's safe to assume ASUS is argubly more dedicate to the firmware support than Acer. and no one seems to mention in this post the dock gives extra 6-7 battery hours plus TWO usb ports, this is crucial to me as I normally want to plug in both of my western digital passport and a mouse...(and now you can even use two xbox360 controllers!)
The 3.1 update will be the absolute FIRST thing that I will do with both devices as I get them.
I feel like a kid with a new toy...come on Purolator where ARE YOU!!!! LOL!!!

I make a cruise ship in april, and many people on it have an ipad or ebook reader.
It's at this time my wife tell me she will like to have one, and me looking for the best tablet (except the locked ipad).
If i take the example of this ship cruise, i can easily imagine somebody give me his usb key to quickly share immediatly some pics or songs on my a500 who is in the bag with the towel. Easily reload the tablet at night (8 hrs nice enough for a day).
With the transformer, first, i have to carry the dock in luggage , but still ok for now. AFTER, when l'm on the pool deck and someone give me an usb key... have to go to my room, get the dock, back, connect for finally have the usb accessibility. I cannot have the dock already at pool, because it take more place, very more weight and finally may be you do not use it at all.
Of course, it's not a dramatic issue, it's just a real example of use among many others. acer in my example is an all in one simple device.
but i agree that in your case, the dock may be fine.
I wanted the Transformer for a long time i bought the Iconia last week since i wanted a tablet for a week long work trip, i love it, with the full size USB i can mount my NTFS 1TB drive and watch my 12GB 1080p videos, you cant do that with any other tablet.
Transformers only pro to me is the dock... but go look at logitechs new bluetooth keyboard that is also a stand...
Well I got my TF....still waiting on the Acer.
Time will tell........

Just got used a500 but laggy plus problems

just got a used a500, but its laggy has hell on web browser when typing.
It took three wipes and on the last I had to disable reinstall of apps so the keyboard and system sounds would work.
Its running stock 3.2 do not have root etc.
Also I have found some games that use the tilt feature do not work right, the ones from android 2.1 up. I have some good games but can not play them as I used too. MX Mayhem is one of the games.
I'm new to honeycomb too.
Any help would be great thanks
I'll start by saying you may want to sit down and read around in these forums. Both this one and the Iconia A500 General to get a feel of some of the issues with the A500 or Honeycomb.
I don't know why your tablet is or was consistently "laggy" with 3.2 on it. But it appears you've managed to get it to work better for you by doing those wipes. The tablet does display some lag usually when it's woken up initially but after you've used it for a few seconds it will generally zip along. This is true of all HC based tablets.
I get virtually no lag on my A500 and I have quite a few apps installed, but I too get a little choppiness when I've woken it from sleep.
Re: browser lag when typing. It happens, again on all HC based tablets. You may want to check into alternative browsers. Dolphin for Pad is pretty good (that's what I use), but there's also Firefox, Opera and others.
Games which are not optimized for tablets and Honeycomb are not guaranteed to work properly. Older games which require the use of sensors are especially prone to issues. Some work. Some don't. Your only guarantee is if you get games that specifically state that they are made to work on Honeycomb. That's just how it works and it is what it is. There are a number of technical reasons why it's justified but I won't get into it.
Many people when they purchase these tablets with Honeycomb figure that all Android apps will work perfectly since it's also a version of Android but this just isn't the case. Tablets consist of bigger screens than phones and because of that sensors are calibrated at different dimensions and angles. Apps and Games need to be optimized for these changes and until they are, some will have trouble. Games are especially affected because they depend more on dimensions and sensor calibration. Sometimes developers will release an entirely different version of an app or a game made specifically for Honeycomb.
Your best bet right now is either to bear with the issues or get rid of the tablet. Ice Cream Sandwich will come along and SHOULD unify the Android Market in the long run. Your experience won't change by switching from one Android Tablet to another since Honeycomb is at the forefront of the trouble (being an offshoot of Android, made for tablets). ICS also won't solve these issues instantly or quickly as various developers will need time to bring their apps/games up to speed, so you'll just have to be willing to just stick with/through it until it does. If you are unable to do this or you feel the issues are just too much to handle, return the tablet or sell it if possible and get an iPad 2 which has a more streamlined market currently.
If you're open to rooting and installing a custom recovery and rom then you could quite possibly fix your problems with lag for the most part. I have reduced lag on the keyboard for my speed of typing (45 wpm on tablet) to less than a second at the worst, even in portrait mode.

Yeah thanks.
I have found it seems to be getting better with the UI lag not happening all the time, but I have tried to disable the flash on sites to try and speed pages up.
It all depends on what site I am on for the lag on text input.
I have rooted devices before, but not going to do this one as I'm waiting to see if it gets ics and hopefully that might make it better re faster..
Its growing on me I and finding it a it better than the 32gb hp touchpad I had after the fire sale.
I have skyfire and that's not to bad, will give other browsers a try at a latter date.
Thanks again.
Cool beans.

[Q] TF101 or other recommendations?

Hi Everyone,
I'm considering purchasing the TF101 after returning the TF201 due to bad wifi perforamnce, browser lockups, and how Asus handled the GPS not working. For those that don't know, after they released the product advertised with GPS functionality, Asus pulled GPS from the specification because it didn't work without any notice. I saw alot of posts that stated Asus told users to return the product if they didn't like this resolution. I could never find something directly from Asus stating this. The TF201 also suffers from bad and inconsistent wifi. Many believe this is due to the 'pogo' connectors, basically if you bump the device or pinch the case, it may improve or worsten wifi performance. Anyways, enough ranting about what's wrong with the TF201. I plan on using the tablet primarily for web browsing, e-mail, calendar, to-do lists, viewing MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF files, etc... I won't be doing any gaming.
At this point in time, would you recommend purchasing the TF101 or would you recommend something else?
Would you recommend waiting for the IPAD 3 or some other soon to be released device?
Unless something changes soon with TF201 quality and reliability, I'm not willing to repurchase the TF201 again.
Appreciate your feedback.

I don't have experience with any other tablet beside the TF101.
I like it, work for me what I need it to do.
I would recommend going to Best Buy or Staples ect.
and play around with all the different models they have.

I use my TF101 for same things and i can tell you that the Browser sometimes is laggy, but depends on the rom you're using, and i think ICS will improve it much.
Other things are perfect:
E-mail client is fast and well rearranged;
Calendar has a very clear interface;
There are tons of apps for pdf reading (i like ezpdf, wich allows to edit them);
Same for Word/Excel/PPT but Polaris office (Preinstalled on TF101) is one of the best and works very well;
For Notes/To-Do Lists there are a lot of apps in the market, the best i think is Beautiful Notes wich runs pretty good.
i agree that it would best that you go personally to a best buy to check them out. The transformer has been working perfect for me for the same uses you said. However i find the galaxy tab really nice too. I was also impressed with the sony s tablet. Check them out. Imho Cant go wrong with asus, sony or galaxy.
Wait for tf700t none of the primes problems with a better screen aswell

The number one reason for getting a Transformer is the dock. If you want the dock (and I wanted it badly) then it's TF101 or TF201 ATM. Since you (understandably) did not like what Asus did with the TF201, that leaves the TF101 for you.
Now, the TF101 has way more going for it than just the dock. The IPS screen is beautiful (and the light bleed issue ought to be stamped out by now. In mine, I barely get light bleed, and it's a B60 model, but I guess I was lucky.). The price is acceptable, up to now, Asus has delivered when it comes to updates (let's see if they keep the trend with the ICS update. I understand that they had issues, and don't want to release a half assed update, so let's wait patiently).
Currently selling alternatives (prizing information based on local prices here in Spain, YMMV):
The Acer Iconia A500: similar specs, worse screen (but no light bleed issue that I know of), but full size USB without the need of the dock or the adapter. Similar price to the TF101.
Sony Tablet S: Slightly smaller screen, different design (not my cup of tea, but it's the selling point for some people), universal IR remote capabilities, full size USB, Full size SD instead of micro SD. Slightly more expensive than the TF101
I would not go for the Galaxy Tab, as the lack of expandable memory would force you to go for the (even) more expensive version. Also, it's way more expensive, while offering the same specs. Comes with Touchwiz, and IIRC, requires you to use Kies to perform updates. Also, Samsung has not been as speedy as Asus when it comes to updates. I would not go for the Xoom either, even if it already has ICS. Didn't like the design, too bulky. Also, it's more expensive than the TF101, though it comes with greater internal storage.
Thanks Everyone
Thanks Everyone,
I'm down to 4 choices, Asus TF101, Acer Iconia A500, IPAD 2, or waiting for the IPAD 3.
My thoughts are:
Asus TF700: After the TF201 experience, there is no way I'll consider buying an Asus tablet which hasn't been proven in the marketplace.
Asus TF101: Appears stable and it's not apple, but the more I think about the TF201 experience, I'd blame myself for trusting Asus if I end up having problems and again receive no response from Asus support.
Acer Iconia A500: Although not the latest, appears stable and it's not Apple. I have no idea what kind of support Acer provides.
IPAD-2: I can't think of a single friend or relative that regretted getting the IPAD-2. Stable and app support is very large.
IPAD-3: Having to wait an unknown timeframe until this is announced and released is a big negative. Unknown stability or problems, but Apple has the appearance of releasing more stable products than anyone out in the industry.
IPAD2 & IPAD3: It's Apple. There is just something inside of me that doesn't like Apple, with no justification or reason. From a support perspective, the ability to visit an Apple retail store for support is appealing, however I have no idea what level of technical knowledge exists at the retail stores.
ARGH!!!!!!!
Thanks Again Everyone!

You will be happier with a netbook or ultrabook imho. Tablet suggestions I would have are the Acer Iconia Tab W500 (very vaguely a win7 transformer and not an A500) or a model of Eee Slate with 4GB RAM installed (comes with bluetooth keyboard and a pen).
For Android tablets, TF101 or the Galaxy Tab 8.9.
If you don't know, just buy iPad and see whether or not it makes you puke.
