[Q] Buying Iconia A500 in India - should I go for Amazon or Flipkart ? - Acer Iconia A500

Hello friends,
Going to buy the Iconia and really feeling excited
A question, I have the option of buying it from either Amazon or from the Indian online store Flipkart , both promising to deliver within 4 days.
Just to clarify, I have bought a lot of stuff from Flipkart in the past, and they really offer good service, with 30 days replacement guarantee (similar to Amazon), so vendor reliability is not a problem.
The price difference is around $30 (Amazon is cheaper even with international priority shipping and import duties included), which I can invest in buying a micro SD card.
The flip side is, I am not sure about the warranty coverage outside US when the tablet is bought from US. Will Acer India support this device ? Can someone help me deciding where to buy it from ?
Thanks,
Sandip

cheap HD

Hello guys Im new to this Touch HD forum and I want one BAD...I found one Cheap from a company in China & I would like to know has anybody else bought one from China? Its unlocked and they said it will work with T-Mobile.
The best price I have heard on Touch HD is around $720 + Shipping to the US from resellers in UK. Nothing from China... if I were you, I will not throw away my money from a seller in a country where it is not released yet, and has a cheaper price.
Again, just my thought... Its your money and your deal.
I live in China. Tell me the name of the company and give a link and I'll check it out. My first impression though is no way. THe touch hd is not officially released here yet so the only way to legally get them is to have them shipped from Hong Kong and they are expensive ($800 US), so I doubt that some company in China would be getting them from abroad and then shipping them to you cheaper than someone like handtec who is getting them directly from HTC in Europe....
1. Like everything in life, if it's too good to be true, it usually is. If this chinese company is indeed reputable, then go ahead. But be warned with the risks involved in importing goods, you have to be prepared to assume all risks and liabilities (warranty, shipping problems, fraud, etc). From my view as of Dec 8, 2008, HTC Touch HD is still pre-order only in many shops and sells for about $800 to $900 due to high demand.
2. Unlocked GSM phones will work with any GSM carriers, that's the nature of being 'unlocked'. However, the downside is that they're usually not subsidized by the GSM carrier and thus more expensive. A trade off between flexibility and cost. For me, the flexibility of being able to use any GSM card when I travel abroad outweighs the cost.

define cheap? before shipping, mine was approximately $670.00 US from Clove Technology. even at today's exchange rate (around 1.50 dollars for each GBP), $700 from a reputable reseller is the best price you'll get. i've seen US retailers selling for as much as $840 and that doesn't include shipping!
Ok update ...Ive now Got a contact in the USA that I can get the phones from Cheap, and when I say cheap I mean under 400.00 shipped to your door.Im registered to get them wholesale...this is where Ebayers probably get them from to re-sell for a big profit .Im gonna be joining you guys soon I hope

Play.com (UK) - Price and Order date now showing

Pfffffttt ... what the!
I've been keeping an eye on Amazon UK and Play UK for the Galaxy tab, well Play now have a price and release date for the 16GB version ..... are you sitting down?
£899.99 Free delivery Due for release on 04 July 2011.
Edit: The spec isn't right either.
899 GBP for 16GB???? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way ... too damn expensive ...
They are either mistaken or they're taking the piss, Amazon.de are advertising it at EUR 637,98, that's about £563.
I've just emailed Play.com asking why the price is so high and they've just responded with:-
Dear Customer,
We are pleased to inform you that 'Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 / Dual Core 1GHz / 16GB / 10.1 inch Touch Screen / Android 3.0 Honeycomb / Tablet' is now available to order. Click on the link below to pre-order now!

At that rate it would be better to order from Amazon.de although Amazon UK may announce a price soon? What are the implications of buying a German unit, it is just classed as a European unit, warranty wise etc?
Yes,
in this regard EU is treated as one so id does not really matter where you buy.
The only difference might be a posting cost.
I have bought stuff from Pixmania (FR) when I was living in the UK with delivery to Poland. (no problems). I have just bought (now being in Poland) Sapphire Xtreme HD 5850 - also no problem.
So... if amazon.de is first to send them away you do not risk anything.
In the past I bought Vaio form Sony Outlet in Holland - fine as well.
Having that in mind... I wonder if Apple isn't breaking the law (EU law) by offering only 12 months of warranty???
As far as I know all manufacturers selling their products in EU are supposed to offer 2 yr. warranty at minimum (no less).
And again on a different note... I am quite grateful for EU being regarded by manufacturers as one country/market. In the past we would wait ages in separate countries for lunch of devices, prices, updates, etc... it is without a doubt better than before we were all completely separate.
I called Play.com and they are looking into it to see if it is a pricing error. They will email me when they know more.
In the mean time, we need to find the best place to get this device in the UK, even if that means ordering from elsewhere in Europe.
I will let you know ass soon as they are available in PL. With Polish Zloty loosing ground because of Greece it might actually work out cheaper for you .
At the moment you are looking at approx. 625 EURO (predicted price, dont know about delivery).
Another issue is, although Samsung will honor warranty in Europe, if the product is faulty when it arrives I will need to send it back to the retailer and they might be abroad. Postage and a language barrier might cause some hassle.

That was my concern with getting stuff from USA (Motorola does not have a worldwide warranty and again - if you buy in USA, you only have 12 months ).
With buy in in EU it is not a problem - buy in Poland, UK, Greece - and you can get it repaired or exchanged through your local representative/service/etc.
It is very nice that it works this way.

Actually I think that was just an automated email as I'd signed up to be notified of availability, it can't be the response to my WTF email re the price on their site.
Folks, thanks for your input ref European warranty.
Thanks for the heads-up up on that, but that price must be a provisional one, much as happened with the initial pricing of the GS 2, which saw its price gradually drop down as its release approached to a much more reasonable level.
I have had my "hands on" today with Transformer.
As I treat this as "tablet for a while" I also want to be able to sell it easily in future and loose as little as possible.
SG 10.1 as much as it is sexy is too limited.
My choice will be Transformer 16GB + keyboard dock - and than I will wait for Kal-El or something else (light, with sd slot that plays mkv and other formats and has sexy look and great batt. life) - this will keep me going for a while.
At the moment I am only thinking... buy now (and use netbook as well) or wait till netflix app will show up as it should have a better price by that time... (I hope non of you think it - netflix app - will not show up).

You're most likely right about it being a provisional price, but what happens if a buyer orders it at the over inflated price and it then reduces by say £300, would they get it at the reduced price?
I'm weary of Play, they tried to pull a fast one on me a few months ago.

If I recall correctly Play don't charge your card until the item is ready to post. I've found they are rubbish when emailing, so I just call them and they are fine on the phone.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S II
The model on Play has the 10.1v specs, not the 10.1 specs -- be careful.
Right, I received the correct reply from Play.com, ref my enquiry as to why the price is so high on their web site. They're investigating.

Yes that's what I did with the Transformer, I do prefer to be able to walk in and get it sorted straight away.
Called up Play.com and now they are looking into the specifications.
It probably didn't help that I got pissed off at the guy because he was giving me generic answers, so when he asked me how I knew their website was wrong I said I work in the IT sector and carry out the necessary research rather than spend all day talking to customers in a monotone and boring voice.
A galaxy tab for a down to earth price...
When the Transformer wasn't widely available, Carphone Warehouse had it. I ordered and it came the next day. I returned it to my local CPW (because of a screen gap), they refunded my card straight away.
Thinking about it though, the Galaxy Tab is expensive compared to the $499 that the US is being charged...so tempted to order it from Amazon.com using viaddress. I haven't used them before, but I'm thinking worst case scenario, I have to pay import duty so that'd put it near the price of Amazon.de - but if it works out, I could get one for about £350. Either way i'd probably get it in a week...

Buying TF300 in USA

I'm from Norway, and I have a friend who is working in Huston, TX, USA.
Where is the best place to buy a TF300 in that area?
And do you think there will be a problem with the warranty? Will I have to ship it directly to Asus if I have a problem?
I will just buy the tf300 witouth the keyboard, and I will save around 200 USD. So its tempting.
He can pick one up at a Best Buy. That's where I bought mine. They've got a decent 30 day return policy, so your friend can test the tablet out and make sure it's good and return it or exchange it if there's a problem.
That's where I bought mine. First unit I got had a flaky touchscreen and I was able to exchange it with no fuss.
(Just one thing: as far as I know Best Buy is still only stocking the 16 Gb version. Office depot, however, carries the 32 Gb model and has a similar exchange policy.)
You can only get the 16gb at best buy but office depot has the 32gb version.
I am a bit sceptical, since some people are having problems with it. I think it will be a pain in the a$$ if I get a problem and have to send it back to the store in Huston or directly to asus. But then 200 USD is a lot of money..
Thank you both for the tips..
If your friend knows enough about tablets, you could have him try it out before he sends it to you. You won't quite get the freshly-opened experience, but you'll know that your tablet won't have to be returned.
That is one of the problem, he isnt a nerd
But maybe ha can get the store to open it up and look that it isnt "broken"..
Micro Center sells them for $350 - list price is 400, but they have $50 discount on most tablets. You (or your friend in this case) may even be able to buy it online - www.microcenter.com ...
I bought mine from the store, after returning Prime ... and btw - after rooting, this thing is just so much better than prime ... though with dock, a lot thicker

Possible to order this tablet from US to India?

I am still interested in this tablet but the price in India is completely ridiculous, around 47000 (almost $800) for the 32 GB 3G version. I thought Samsung might lower it over time but the price hasn't budged in 9 months.
I am interested in the 16GB Wifi version which seems to be available for around $350 refurbished on Amazon. I was wondering if any Indian posters have ordered it through them and what the final price is after shipping, taxes etc.
Online / store price the best that I have seen is INR 45,500...
But I agree on both counts
1. Price has certainly proved resistant to lowering
2. Its expensive (currently picked up an ipad air 16 gb for 36k at amazon india)
Have not ordered this from US as I will prefer to buy it local because
1. Warranty and repair service - god forbid something goes wrong with the tablet, doubt samsung would honor the warranty of another country and am not confident on the situation of parts and all for a model not sold here locally...service in India stinks!
2. Custom duties - we have some crazy custom duties typicall plus add the cost of shipping and chances are whatever savings in the price you get will be nullified by the cost of having it delivered in your hands.
Me, even if I could accept the second.l, cannot accept the first as I don't want to end up with an expensive paper weight.
Purely my own thoughts, yours may of course vary.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
I agree with your points which is why I wondered if anyone had any personal experience of ordering from India especially with respect to point 2. If the savings are sufficient I would be prepared to risk the lack of warranty.
Samsung has really missed the boat with pricing on this tablet. They could have easily launched the 16GB wifi version for 35. And it's baffling that they have refused to reduce the price. The Note 3 which was released at the same time is now 38 and the GS5 which was released 6 months later is 35. Hopefully once they launch the newer version, the price on the 2014 will drop sharply.
i just received mine yesterday. i bought it via amazon.
It was used( open box Like new). And really is just new unit. But there is little bump on back side near samsung logo.( I searched on google and many new unit also have same issue. and anyway its not noticable.)
Price was $387 (including fast shipping in 2-5 days). It converted into 24263 inr (always place order in USD).
It shipped via fedex. custom duty is little less than 15%.+ fedex fees and service tax. Totally i paid 4268 inr as duty.
Its super easy just make everything clear with seller.
I hope it helps you.
Thanks. So it works out to around 29000. I have to say that's quite tempting even given the warranty issues.
Yeah that's the reason i got one.

Where can buy Redmi Note 2?

Hi xda users:
This is for try to find the low price and best(short) delivery time..
anyone can give me suggestions?
I´m from Mexico
Here you go:
https://www.ibuygou.com/p-xiaomi-re...it-octa-core-22ghz-2gb-ram-32gb-rom-6992.html
ibuygou is very expensive, at least the 16gb model. I buy this phone on geekbuying, they give you a coupon for the first order, and it cost me with free shipping 149 euros-161 USD
How reliable are either of those sites? Looking at both for shipping to the UK...
This should help: http://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-note-2-pro
Thanks, but I'm more interested in reviews of the various sites that sell it, and UK shipping. There's a lot of dodgy companies out there, after all.
@FloatingFatMan ibuygou is not a dodgy company. I have bought a Xiaomi Powerbank off them in the past, which was shipped from the Far East. They now offer EU Warehouse shipping for select items as well.
Also maybe of interest:
http://www.topresellerstore.co.uk/
http://xiaomishop.it/
http://www.honorbuy.com/
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/1153179
I have also purchase from this reseller in the past:
http://beexz.com/
Service was excellent.
That's the kind of answer I was hoping for. Thanks for the information. I wasn't saying they were, but there are plenty out there that are. Caveat emptor and all that.
I would only recommend sites that I know are reputable
I'd suggest geekbuying. They are original and provide discount for new users (you will get the code when you register)
http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiao...ore-MIUI-V7-3060mAh-13-0MP---Gray-351517.html
Gearbest is also seems ok. Used to purchase Xiaomi powerbanks there, pretty fast and smooth, came originals.
Then there's a coolicool used to purchase Gionee Elife E7 phone. Also pretty fast and smooth. But currently they have no Redmi Note 2.
Geekbuying is also s'pposed to be ok, since many tech reviewers link to it.
You can also try coupon code "retailmenot" for 5% discount. The code is from the site with the same name.
http://www.retailmenot.com/view/geekbuying.com?c=6823991
Is the Prime version (32 GB) available yet?
There is a shop in Hong Kong selling the 16GB white model on Ebay right now, with fast shipping. I ordered two for a great price, one for me and one for my brother or to sell. Will arrive in Australia by next week, which is good because I dropped my G2 today and cracked the screen. There are 4 left!
As for me, I prefer to buy from coolicool. Because it's low price and service.
Oppomart 159$
The prime version is $ 50 more. Shipping is $30 to the USA. Some of the other sites include free shipping. I know geekbuyer has free slow shipping but fast shipping is an extra $5.
I have heard that a number of people bought Oneplus One phones from Oppomart.
Some new deals have popped up, on an Australian forum I frequent. first is for 2ghz/16gb, second is for 2.2ghz/32gb:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, 4G Phone $212.57AUD ($152.99USD) with Coupon, Free Shipping @ JD
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209020
Original Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime 2GB/32GB 5.5" Helio X10 Octa-Core 64Bit US$207.98 (~ AU $290) @nextbuying
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209102
And another good deal here, RN2 PRIME 32GB/2.2Ghz with free Silicone case+Screen Protector (if you tick the box) for $205:
http://www.vickmall.com/original-xi...-helio-x10-octa-core-5-5-inch-fhd-13-0mp.html
I think you can buy this redmi phone from geekbuying,I bought the xiaomi note phone from this shop before,it's original and they had a good customer service.
