[CWM][DEODEXED][ROOTED][ZIPALIGNED] I897UCKI2 [Android 2.3.5] - Captivate Android Development

At the suggestion of others, I put this in its own thread.
First of all, credit goes to Watsa for his work on Pinnacle. The ROM I posted yesterday was built with the Android kitchen and somehow was breaking WiFi (and root). So I used the Android kitchen to just deodex /app and /framework this time around and merged that into Pinnacle 1.3. This is not Pinnacle based by any means (ot Pinnacle tweaks or UI, etc.), I just used it to embed the ROM with rooting capabilties and edited the update script slightly.
Everything is stock here besides removing AT&T bloat, deodexing, zip-aligning, and root. The kernel and modem are stock I897UCKI2. There are NO BOOTLOADERS within this ZIP. So you must be running a Gingerbread ROM already.
I am running it right now with WiFi and root working. I was able to use TiBu to restore 90+ apps as well.

Let me know how it goes.

downing ......

I think you should add deodexed/zipaligned/rooted in the OP...
EDIT:
Works smoothly...flashed over fasty II V2.0 but am gonna back to Fasty mostly just keeping this for a day I think..not a stock kinda guy

Nice work emuneee.
And on a side... checked out ur website---very good stuff there as well.

is this the exact same CWM version that was in the body of the other I897UCKI2 thread?

Nice work. Thanks for putting this together. Unfortunately, my office firewall blocks the server you uploaded it to. If anyone can put in on a dropbox I would really appreciate it.

I killed TIBU from task manager...restarted it and it restored fine

I did flash boogs kernel after the flash as well.
Tried restoring from TIBU and stuck on the first APP at 0% with no progression?

Nice work! I was running into the same issue you were yesterday with wifi being broke. Curious to know what you did to fix it.
NVM! Didn't read the entire OP.

terher manager apk
Did you already pull the Tethering Manager APK from the system/apps folder or are they using a differently named apk now? It was in my system app folder?

In setup, make sure that you enable debug mode, unknown apps. Works great for me. I injected boogs 1 kernel, then booted and flashed the K1 K2 boogs kernel with init.d. I also injected the attached battery mod for a circle battery, just cant handle the stock battery. I can't seem to get that Powermenu that has been posted to work though.

Powermenu not wanting to work for me either. Odin Boog 1 and then flashed Boog 2 with CWM. The ROM is working nice.

I get it. It's flash-able via CWM (which isn't possible on STOCK 2.3.x -->d'oh.)
I flashed Pinnacle ROM on my i897 (which has CWM v4x included -- sweet), saw how awesome it is; and flashed it to my wife's (Mrs. metalchef) i897 immediately (funny how there's no CWM or rooting method for 2.3.x, yet all the ROMs based off of this release come pre-rooted & incl CWM...I don't get it)
She has since commented on how fast this ROM is (vs say... FastyIIv2, which is what I had flashed to her device previously).
sorry for the silly post. derrrr
I can haz CWM.

Glad it seems to be working for everybody!

Since this is in .zip format, how am I to apply/flash this to my device? (All I'm looking for here is su/root capabilities with 2.3.x)...is this not meant to be used by non-devs?

If your phone is already running a Gingerbread Rom, just flash it using CWM recovery.

and make sure that you disable lagfix first, that is if you are running it.

[ROMs][GPL] Tenzo's Stock "Plain" HTC 2.1 ROMs - 2.37.605.4 w/JulyOTA [10-01-10]
Many of my recent efforts have lead me to take a few steps back in discovering a few things (does that makes sense?). In working on fixes for 3GP Vanilla MMS and the 50% TWS "issue" I have put these together.
Should hopefully help others, especially those new to cooking that want an easy, trouble free base to start with (no "extra fonts" and no "updating" the JulyOTA manually).
EDIT: if you have "issues" with either wired or wireless tether, you can use the apk's attached below. (thanks Conap, bugger561, and T2Noob)
I have built all of these ROMs from the RUU and integrated the JulyOTA. All ROMs are deodexed. Information below:

SORRY BOUT THAT!!!
I have the same problem on Tenzo-Official2.1-JulyOTA-Root.
Why don't you just flash PlainJaneT2 which is total Stock with A2sd, and are able to enable JIT through a2sd with By typing "a2sd jit"
Everything works, on it is pretty fast for a HTC rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092
Just wondering Why you made another rom thats already out there...
I didn't mean to take over the thread just curious what the difference between PlainJane and this.
Another question is if you tested wired tether?
Because if you just dropped it in the rom I CAN GUARANTEE that it is not working, thats why I didn't add it to the rom, And If you did get it to work can you tell me how you did it?
If you included SETCPU i suggest you take it off if you don't want to have problems with the SETCPU developer later in the future..... A Member has been kicked because he included apps that developers had told him to get rid of.
This has the newest build of 2.1 by HTC. And wired tether has been updated to work on the Eris and incredible. Plainjane, even though it is older than this and T2 is still better for those who do jot care about JIT or A2SD. I've tried both as well as this and jcase's Rom features the most free memory. I uninstall a lot of stock apps and then add maybe 25-30mb of market apps. Plainjane left new with 95+mb free. This and T2 leave me with roughly 70mb.

this is completely stock... no extra scripts, no extra fonts, no a2sd, etc. it's stock... with july OTA integrated and deodexed. that's all i did. can you point out where the other completely stock ROM with JulyOTA integrated is? If i missed it, i apologize. again... other than not trashing bootloader, recovery, etc, it's as "stock" as it gets. no symlinks changed in update-script, etc. again, this is the only stock ROM w/July OTA integrated that i've seen on the forum. did i miss something? (Official Obsession is close... but that requires you flash over the update. not easy for beginning cooks trying to customize a ROM... and it's not deodexed)
the "other" 2 ROMs are different as well... one is almost stock, with just latest ChainsDD superuser (root) added (no a2sd), with Conap's CFS kernel. the other is the same, with latest a2sd added (which allows the ability to add cache2cache as well).
i've enjoyed PlainJaneT2... and it is still my base for TT2.1. i've given full props to you with links and request even for donations in that thread. if i've upset you, again, i apologize.
also, no "extra" apps (setcpu, etc) are included... i know the rules

one thing you can do with a2sd 2.7.5.1 is run the cache on the cache partition.
adb remount
adb shell
a2sd cachepart
when it's done, it will reboot the ROM. pull the battery and clear dalvik (or else you'll get a few FC's when you reboot).
you can try the above with "a2sd cachepartreset" and it "should" clear dalvik for you... but it hasn't worked well for me

Why use this old 1.2 when the official 1.4 does it cleaner: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
Perfect timing on this! My lady is techologically challenged and having a ROM like this is perfect. She kept busting my bawls about not having teeter... Every time I installed it via an APK it would always FC after a bit.
Edit this was on a different rom, so far only issue I've had with this rom is a FC when trying to auto-update google maps.

initrd.gz problems

I am at a loss here. I am running CLK 1.5 PA 1.1a with tytung r3, however, the device gets icon flash similar to icecreamtosti, where the icons do not respond without a reboot.
I wanted to flash Dorimanx v6.9 or v7.2 HWA, and understand I need to place the ROMs initrd.gz file in the initrd-custom folder. I have tried this on Snow Leopard & XP to no avail using a variety of different compression programs including 7-zip. I unzip the kernel and the ROM, put the PA 1.1a initrd.gz in the correct folder and rezip it. Each time though, even after re-downloading the kernel and ROM, I get an error within CWM, which reads that the installation has been aborted. Why is this? Do I need to re-compile the kernel in Android Kitchen? (I do not know how to do this by the way) or what else am I doing incorrectly? I have trawled the XDA HD2 forum, but had no luck. Suggestions?

You don't unzip the contents. By doing so you break the signing. What you wanna do is open your ROM zip using 7 zip then browse to the initrd.gz file copy to your desktop, close everything. Now open the kernel zip file browse to the initrd-custom folder open it. Now double click and drag the initrd.gz file from your desktop to the 7-zip window which has the kernel zip opened to the initrd-custom folder.

Have you tried installing the kernel without adding the initrd.gz? I remember getting that error when the download was inturupted or something. So if you still get that error without editing the zip, then it most likely is the zip file and you need to redownload. Because if you did exactly as i said then it should be working. Im a long time user of his kernel's on almost every ROM out there and never once ran into any troubles. But we will surely figure this out
Can you post a link to the ROM you are using, and i'll download it and edit the kernel then repost it in this thread for you.

I flashed it with success, but it doesn't feel as snappy as tytung r3, it takes a few seconds to unlock and load programs, even clocked at 1612mhz and experimenting with ZRAM on and off. Thank you though, I will probably stick with tytung's for the moment though, did you use 7-zip to transfer the initrd.gz file?

Hmm i wonder if its cause i took the initrd.gz from an older version of Paranoidandroid. I have version .6 on my computer thats why i used it. I'll redownload the latest and try with that. I might even flash it myself and test it out. Maybe the lib files need to be transfered as well. Dorimanx has by far been the best kernel for myself, but i dont really care for ICS yet but when i was testing the waters i used DM kernel and i loved it. Snappy responsive and pretty awesome. It just lacks a boat load of features i rely on in CM7. CM9 claimed they will re add the features once they iron kinks out so once they release a better build i will most likely convert

Very curious by this statement, and admittedly, my own android experience is limited... I've used ACA SD android for a number of months, and have switched over to ICS. Currently with ICT & DM's 6.9 kernel, but love the UI in hybrid mode of PA... and so, am really curious what you meant when you alluded to 'missing features' that were in CM7, but not CM9. What was lost? What am I missing? (sincere question) Thanks, -Rob

Well, there are two that i pretty much LOVE and cannot live without xD
Those are,
1. Disable full screen (status bar remains visible no matter the app, has a "hide" button if you wish to use full screen in a game or app, then you can unhide by pressing home key(my choice))
2. Really big one, lockscreen gestures. I love being able to draw a 'C' on my lockscreen and open the phone whitout having a custom app slot being taken up. Plus, gestures allow for an app to run while still displaying the lockscreen.
THose are the only two big ones i will miss, there are a few more small ones but i dont remember without flashing CM9 and checking And its been awhile since ive tested the waters, so i might download the latest AOKP and CM9 to see where they are at. But they both are good and pretty cool. CM7 is just perfect for me. No issues what so ever.

It would be brilliant if you could test out the kernel with the initrd.gz from 1.1a PA, that might explain why it felt slow when I tested the original.

"Android is Updating" on Every Boot

I've tried searching for a fix to the "Android is Updating" on Every Boot problem with no avail.
I am rooted on stock and have tried to uninstall and reinstall TBP. This did not solve the problem. I read something about moving odex files around in the /data/app but there are only apk's
I have Currents, Earth, Magazine, iWnn, Picasa and Set-up Wizard frozen.
Have you run any scripts for "supercharging" or similar?
your dalvik is getting wiped on every boot. its either the rom, kernel, mod, or a root app that you enabled it in.
Did you have disabled/frozen apps then done a davlik cache clearance ?
if so try enabling them and maybe reset davlik again.

That much I have gathered from looking around for a solution. Stock rom (rooted), 3.4.0-perft-ge039dcb kernal and I used the wugfresh toolkit for rooting

yup, and that didn't fix the issue
I have the same on my N4 and N7.
On the N4 I didn't freeze any application, on N7 Currents is frozen.
I am wondering whether this happens because I integrated sys Dalvik into ROM with Titanium Backup
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

yes. its either a mod that you flashed(sound mod, or a supercharger script, etc..), the kernel youre using, or a root app that you use, that has an option that you have enabled.

I haven't installed a sound mod. I don't think I have a supercharger script
I am using kernel 3.4.0-perf-g7ce11cd (if that says anything)

na, i was looking for an init.d folder. that means its not a script that was set into that folder. is it a custom kernel that you are using, or just the stock kernel that comes with the stock rom? do you use anykind of root only apps that have multitudes of options to change things around? are you willing to try another rom or kernel?

Kernel is custom i believe.
Root only apps? Yes, TB is one of them (which I uninstalled to see if that was causing the problem). ROM Manager (which I just uninstalled as well), BusyBox, SuperSU and Online Nandroid.
Rooted but stock, no custom ROM. I don't mind trying out a new ROM and kernel if that is going to solve the annoying issue

rom manager has such an option(wipe dalvik) i believe.
1. you can try to factory reset, then reboot after booted up, before installing any apps(make a nandroid backup in your recovery first, so you can restore it if needed).
2. try a different kernel. if still happening, try a different rom.
3. rom manager is one of my most hated apps

I did a couple of factory resets a few months ago when I was having camera/gallery issues. I had no apps installed (aside from those that came with the phone) and was getting the annoying "android is upgrading" message.
I've read good things about the Franco Kernel and found this site with a few options but I am not sure which one to flash. Any suggestions?
I've learned to dislike it myself and hence why I just uninstalled it a few

ok, so if its doing it, without any app installed, nor rom manager, and the rom is completely stock, then the chances are that its the kernel. btw, i highly recommend the rasbean jelly rom. its very clean, with only added mods(not everything plus the kitchen sink), and very highly praised by many. if you want a stock experience, with a few additions, rasbean is great.

[Q] Help with Safestrap/Cyanogenmod on Razr m

Hello,
I'm a little late to the Razr M game, but I just got a device off ebay since it's only about a year old and in great shape and quite cheap :good:
In any case, I've so far managed to unlock the radio for Tmobile in the US (GSM), and root it the device. Unfortunately, I didn't know when i bought it about the inability to unlock the bootloader with OTA from May and beyond, which mine is according to fastboot. I believe I came across the actual number being 98.18.78 somewhere.
So I've been doing a lot of reading, got SafeStrap running, made a stock backup, and am testing on slot1. However, I can't seem to get any CM ROM's running! Most of them 'boot' but then all I get is a blank screen, though I can connect with adb and therefore confirm that it does actually run some CM build.
I'm first of all somewhat confused on what ROM i should be using. I've found several links that should seem like they work, but none have succeeded (all have that halfway functionality that only works in ADB):
http://d-h.st/FgU
http://skrilax.droid-developers.org/cm10.1nightly/razrqcom/index.php?device=xt907
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/scorpion_mini/cm10.1
http://skrilax.droid-developers.org/cm10.2nightly/razrqcom/index.php?device=xt907
I found these in various threads on XDA and droidrazr.com. I basically read the entire 55 pages of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012093 and since the link in the first page is dead I tried all the links that came up on the thread, which got a couple of the links in my list above.
Also, I did run across the tip that I had to mount system in SafeStrap to get these working, no success. And what's this thing about having to wipe dalvik and system and cache two or three times??
Basically I'd like the proper, up to date link that should be working, along answer to above question and and other tips!
Thanks!!! I love the phone otherwise it's great
UPDATE:
I did manage to get an CyanogenMod spinning forever startup screen with an ancient rom described here http://www.droidviews.com/install-first-aosp-based-unofficial-cm10-rom-on-motorola-droid-razr-m-xt907/ which appears to have come again from the thread mentioned above. The link is now gone but I have the .zip that I must have snagged right before it disappeared!

There are others but they are not current.
Well, none of the custom ROMs out now will work with SS. Their are some stock based ROMs, one of which was posted by Avi, that will work with SS. There are some older ROMs that were designed for SS and they were built prior to April (when our bootloader was unlocked). You'll have to dig back a couple of page to find them. I know there was SS compatible CM10 in that link you posted, but I don't think the link is active for it anymore. If you decide to run an older SS compatible ROM on your newer system version, you're going to run into kernel issues. Things like the gallery not working and WiFi signal being weak. Your best bet right now is to load a stock ROM on slot 1 and start tweaking that with XPosed and enabling Init.d so you can get some performance tweaks going.
Thanks for the response, I'll check those out. Glad to find some up to date roms haha

This is something I didn't realize/know before, good to know! That would explain some of the problems. May I ask how you know they don't use stock kernels? Just experience in the development process or is there a way to check?

Root Explorer is all you need.
Thanks for the help and links, I have the deodexed SS version from your link working. I see that it is not a debloated version; is the odexed version debloated?
Also I was originally hoping for a ROM with functionality like Cyanogenmod, but I guess the situation is too specific for that too happen. I might be interested in getting to ROM making/customizing at some point, I did some preliminary reading, I should be able to edit the deoxed SS ROM and then 'stitch it up again' in simplest terms, and it will still work on my device, correct? I feel like editing a ROM would be a great way to learn more about Android/Linux/bootloaders etc before I go to college.

Telstra is the Australian firmware, I believe. If you want to port CM, you need to pull from their source. The DST ROM is a stock Moto ROM that's built by the Moto software team. You can't really take that and change it into a CM port, but you can make your own build environment and start building CM.

Telstra is a carrier for the xt905. There are builds posted in our dev section. Any telstra rom is encrypted & if flashed w/ Rsd or Fastboot will brick an xt907.

Alright thanks for the info. I was just doing some reading on the Linux Kernel. Since I am stuck with the stock motorola kernel, but this implements all the things I need to make the upper level, platform independent sys calls and other api's, there shouldn't be a need to build a special kernel for a cyanogenmod port, correct? If i port the higher level things everything that is implemented in cyanogenmod should work... am I getting this right? I'm trying to figure out what the OS kernel requirements are.

Yep. Used this one myself. It's not really Nougat, though... like all other ROMs for the i8200, this is a modified stock ROM and is still Jellybean 4.2.2, just heavily skinned. That said, it's faster than the stock ROM, offers slightly better battery performance, and is quite stable. Worth looking at.

So, I put together a complete ZIP file with this exact modified stock ROM. I included everything you need to install it.
Disclaimers: this is your phone and I'm not responsible for what you do with it. I've done this process multiple times with tons of different ROMs, and if you follow the instructions from the included text file I authored, it should work perfectly. I'm not responsible for bricked phones, though I did include files to restore from a soft brick.
Also, I did not author this ROM image... it is a modified stock image (like everything else for the i8200) and is not REALLY Nougat or Lineage OS... it's just heavily skinned to look and act like it. That being said, battery life is noticably improved, speed is increased just a bit, and the ROM is stable.
After downloading, extract all files to a directory and then read my instructions... multiple times... make sure you have your mind wrapped around the process before you commit.
Anyway, the file is HUGE (1.25 GB) and the hosting is absolutely free and absolutely middling in download speeds, so give it some time to download... patience and virtues and whatnot. If this file goes without downloads for thirty days, it will self delete from the hosting server, so if you stumble across this thread at some point in the future and the link is dead, message me. I will EVENTUALLY get the PM and I'll update this thread with a new link once I get a chance to upload the file again.
I included the Custom Nougat ROM image, TWRP 2.7.2.0 for the i8200, a SuperSU ZIP file, Odin 3.07 (which I used), a newer Odin for those who prefer it, the needed Samsung driver install file, and a copy of Philz if you prefer that particular recovery. I also included a stock recovery image in case you have a soft brick occur. Also my detailed, step by step instructions in a text file.
Anyhow, here's the link:

thanks for support us and providing roms. I recommended to you to make more nice rom for this gt-i8200N/L/Q.
Orignal firmware is to bad and get problem in battery disconnect in charging.so i use roms which is good and no any problems
Is this rom working in 8200Q?
It should, but I don't have one to verify this.

I'd recommend making a backup in TWRP before flashing this. If it doesn't work, just restore your old backup. The hardware across all i8200 phones is virtually identical with the exception of things like NFC and LTE... this ROM appears to support all of that by default, so it should, in theory, work with any i8200 revision. Give it a try and let us know.
