Keyboard bug - Atrix 4G General

Hi all, had a search and cant find what im looking for so posting in the atrix forum for help. My son has an atrix and during the last week there has developed a keyboard bug, where every time he hits the space bar, it minimises the entire keyboard.
Has he inadvertantly activated a shortcut or something that can be turned off?
Any help is apreciated guys, the phone its' self is all stock un-rooted.
Cheers
Swifteh

Howto always keep HTC wizard in landscape mode?

Hi!
Is it possible to always keep HTC wizard in landscape mode?
I can change it manually by tapping on screen or by HW button. But it reverts to portrait every time I close the keyboard. Since I use the keyboard 98% of time it takes forever every time the screen rotates.
Does anyone of you guru's know of any reg hack or something else that can keep landscape all the time?

VJ come through with a fix (again)
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=928836&page=1&pp=15
See the post from me (a042349) near the bottom of page one. It's a bit of a hack, but it'll work until the next soft reset.
Go to "settings" "system" tab and select screen. There is an option ot select Portrait, Right handed Landscape or left handed landscape.
Re: VJ come through with a fix (again)

This is the soloution you described:
-----------
Start the camera application which puts the phone in landscape mode. Then use a 3rd party utility like "Close-All" or maybe even the native task manager (can't remember exactly) to "kill" the camera app. As long as you kill the camera app without using it's "x" or exiting normally, the device will stay in landscape mode. It stays this way if you open/close the keyboard. It will return to normal mode if you re-open the camera and close it normally, or soft reset the device.
-----------
I tried this on my wizard. But couldn't get it working. I've tried closing the camera app with VJOKButt, VBAR and the native task manager. It stays in landscape mode until I close the keyboard next time. IE exactly the same behavoiur as when manually changing to landscape mode in settings.
May be this is due to all these programs close the camera app to nicely? Or can it be this isn't working on the latest AKU2 ROM?
Anyone got an idéa?

registry keys
I know this thread is somewhat inactive but I just got an 8125 and really wanted to figure this out. I did some poking around in the registry and some experimentation and found the registry keys that seem to do what we want.
HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\CamAppActive - 0 is off, 1 is on. When this is 1 it keeps the screen from rotating. This seems to be why the camera workaround worked.
Set CamAppActive to 1, then go to settings/system/screen and switch the landscape lefthanded mode. Now the phone is in landscape and theres no laggy switching between portrait and landscape every time you open the keyboard ! To cancel it out just open and close the camera or soft-reset.
This could also be used to keep the screen in portrait whenever the keyboard is open....but i have no idea why anyone would want to do that.
If i knew more about messing around with the registry and programming for WM I'd try to work out some sort script to set this on startup..maybe when i get bored...

Dis-abling the G-sensor?

Hi. I posted my virgin post on the back of a thread some time back, but unfortunately got no replies. I've been scratching my head for ages with my problem and was considering selling my HD, but would really like to keep it as its otherwise a great phone.... My problem is virbration/shakes of the phone rotate my Tomtom app and other app's randomly and frequently. This is a problem for me when I mount my phone on my motorcycle to use it as a satnav. I've made myself tired trawling through the net and on here, but can't find any answers. Did a clear storage to manufactures settings [it would not 'hard reset' for some reason], various rotation 'apps' and HD tweak, but nothing seems to hold the orientation of the screen when subjected to vibration. Been in touch with HTC and they said its possibly my G-sensor not reading my settings, [eg] when the G-sensor is 'dis-abled' in settings, the internet and messaging, etc, screens still rotate when I flip the phone.... Am I right to assume the supposedly obvious that the G-sensor being switched off should stop these certain apps from flipping? Any other things I should know or could try, before I reluctantly send my phone in to HTC service.... Appreciate any advice.....
Go to registry
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor
You'll see two subfolders there - just delete them and auto-rotation will be disabled for ALL aplications (but gsensor will still be working in apps which use it). You can then use changescreen or other soft to set autorotation for certain apps, or map a key to an app which rotates screen - this will give you manual screen rotation.
Alternatively you can find tomtom in those folders and just delete it's entry - this will disable autorotation for tomtom and leave everything else untouched.
WOW.... Well made up! Thanks for your prompt reply and via your great advice my problem seems to be sorted. Deleted the Tomtom folder in registry as you explained, added Changescreen and now I've got the 'stationary' landscape screen I've so long searched for... Brilliant! Out of a learning curve curiosity am I right in saying swithching off the G-sensor via settings should of stopped the screen flipping in the first place?
Further answer or not, thank you 'very' much for making my day and have a good one yourself......
CHEERS!!!
Yes, switching the g-sensor off should disable the auto-rotation. The problem is, that doing it via settings doesn't work and g-sensor is still active Once I've been looking for a way to completely disable g-sensor (to check how this will affect battery life) but I couldn't find anything on the subject. g-sensor enabled applications will still be using it no matter what you set in settings or registry...
Seems strange. HTC told me that switching off G-sensor via settings should stop auto rotation such as messaging and internet which led me to believe I had a problem on my HD and to follow there advice to send my phone into them. Whats the point in having an option to switch it off, if it doesn't have any effect?!... Still, I'm happy now having done what you explained earlier....
Thanks.

On my phone, if I chose keypad, it stays that way until i change it back.
Minimized apps drains battery and may slow down your phone (it takes a lot to slow HD2 down.. but anyway)
You can install an Taskmanager from this forum, for instance this one:
e-Natives Showcase 1.1.0 - Finger Friendly Task Switcher ---- Official Thread
my key pad keeps reverting back to qwerty still. any ideals?
Minimized apps can drain battery, but most don't. Most applications need user interaction before they do anything. Excel, for example, just sits there and does absolutely nothing if you don't use it. That won't use battery. Anything that does things in the background, like polling system states (screen on, rotation, waiting for screen gestures etc..), they will use the battery. It basically depends what application it is, but most do not.
Install the task manager from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
When you open it on the home page you can go into settings and choose between apps minimizing or closing when you press the X.
@ boro22, i have the same problem with the phone keypad and cannot find a solution.... have you found one yet?
whiltst on the subject of the phone keypad can someone tell me how i can the keys to silent

Extremely Annoying Android Bug....

Hey there,
I have a question about a possible Android bug that has had its annoyance on me for quite a while now. Sometimes when I wanna type something into a text box and it doesn't show up whatsoever in the text box at all. I feel the vibrations of the keys while I'm typing, and I also seen that the dictionary recommends and corrects words right on top of the keyboard as if I'm actually typing, but nothing shows up in the text box, I usually have to wait three to four minutes before it goes back to normal and it starts showing the letters I type in the text box, I use a different keyboard other then the default Android one, but the same thing also happens with that keyboard as well. It has never done this before and started about one month ago, my HTC Legend is obviously rooted and I currently run a Stock ROM of Android 2.2, is this a known bug? Is there a fix for it? Thanks for the help.
thats sounds like your legend lags.... does it help after freeing the ram? eg. using task killer...
That used to happen to me as well but only while typing in landscape mode. When I'd transfer back to portrait it would be fine. Usually closing the app I was using would fix everything. Since I started using smart keyboard pro I only use portrait mode so don't even know if it happens anymore lol
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Hey guys thanks for the help, I also use Smart Keyboard Pro and it even happens on that keyboard as well, I have a task killer and exit the app, and close all apps via the task killer but no luck, it usually needs a few minutes and it starts working fine. But I'll see about the landscape and portrait mode. Thanks for the help again guys.
If it bugs you that much try flashing another ROM. That sounds exactly like a bad case of lag, as psyionx suggested. It would be worth it!

[Q] prevent homescreen rotation

Hi all,
This is my first posting, thanks for spending time to read this, u guys are amazing with the help u all provide, really a great community!
I would like to check if there is a way to lock the homescreen rotation with the hc 'auto-rotate screen' setting set to on? I tried searching for a sokution but could not find one. The problem I have is everytime I change from landscape to portrait mode, the homescreen rotation takes quite some time and I cannot stand the lag! Ha please help me suggest solutions! Thanks!
Settings -> Screen -> uncheck Auto-rotate screen
Hey,
Just got my Transformer a few days ago. I've been using Widgetsoid 2 on my Desire for quite a while, and have it on my TF too now. You can set a button on the homescreen or even have it show up in notifications. Saves you a click on settings... (sorry, I haven't posted enough to insert a link here)

Hi thanks but what I wanted was to disable only the rotation of the home screen while still retaining the rotation of the other apps. Hence using the method above does not really help eh.. I use launcherpro for my HTC desire and it can disable the homescreen rotation, so checking if it is possible to do that on hc
use tasker, use the last app context so when you press home it turns off auto rotate, then when youleave the home screen it will turn auto rotate on again. its in the markwt.
hi thanks,
Tried this ingenious method but found out that tasker default for when auto-rotate is off is in portrait mode! So did not really work for me, thanks anyways!
not sure if this exists, but id like an app ( a button if you will) that will let me rotate the screen each time i press it..
Id like to be able to read the tablet in landscape mode while im laying on my side (in bed)
I could lock the screen, i know, but id like to avoid the extra steps
Since I was using ADW EX as my home app for my Hero (still alive, oh yeah!) I tried it out here. It runs great, looks good (you can hide the dock if you like), and under the settings it has the option for homescreen as Auto/sensor, Portrait, Landscape, and Keyboard rotate. Now, I realize you are probably looking for a free option, but if you don't mind a couple bucks going to a nice launcher with many options, that is out there.

Just tried it, work like a charme or me. The fact is that when you open the launcher it stop the autorotation, but on't change it to landscap, so i yu are in portrait before launching it, you will be stuck in portrait, etc.

hi thanks all for the replies and help
I purchased adw ex in the end and loving it the himescreen rotation is much faster then the stock launcher, think I'll stick with leaving auto rotate on
Hi guys, just thought id help. If you want to keep the stock launcher a great app to manage your rotation in any app is "smart rotator" in the market. Simple and effective!
