Root Manager and Astro are good file managers. Opera is a good web browser that works on the Nook

thanks a lot... but when i go on search (in market) they didn't work... why?

It doesn't work, it is broken somehow. Go to market, open apps menu, all, the best free, downloas opera and file manager. Then if you want to install app from market google opera "appbrain (app you want to download)", hit first one, and on top you should find a link to market, click it, and download app form market.
Other method is to use market.android.com

another solution is download it from pc
last question... when i download a file from opera it says "you haven't a card insert... insert one and try again" can i fix this problem?

i solved...
can you talk me about a wi fi manager (support enterprise wifi) and a good pdf reader for nook?

i have downloaded an application for web, and when i try to install it, it says "for security, your phone is set to block installation of application not sourced in android market"
how i solved it?

Assuming you rooted with Touchnooter you can enable non-market installs in Nook Color Tools

i've tried to uncheck-check again the options and it works fine...
thanks a lot

last problem
for connect nook at my school i need to set proxy...
i've tried do install trasparent proxy but it says "no iptables binary found on your ROM" can i solved it?
i've try app called "proxy settings" but it doesn't work...
you have solution for set proxy?
(i've solved wep enterprise problem with "WiFiAdva", but now, for connect i need proxy setting)

Have you try another version of the Android market? It can help

if you have a name of a "program for proxy" say it....
i'll search and install it....

you will not find application outside Market. You should buy a wifi router and stop spamming.
Thats not entirely true... They have a backup of several APKs at android-dls. You need to enable Non-Market installation though (Settings -> Applications-> First Checkbox). Hope this helps!
P.S. They're only free apps obviously

I already did enable the non-market..
I will try to go to that forum now to download this app installer to be able to install files with .apk ..
Right ?
I cant find the app. installer anywhere on the internet ..
Anyone knows where it may be located ?
You can just use Astro or Linda File Manager to browse your SD card for the .apk file.
Or, you can always just browse the website and download the .apk files from your phone and open them in the download manager.

Got mine... Finally!!!!!

I'm really really excited...! This is my dream tablet, I've been waiting for this for over a month. And now its finally mine! But there is a problem, since I've no WiFi network in my house(for now), how can I install applications. I know the android applications are .apk format, but I don't know from where to download them. I got the file manager HD .apk file but I don't know how to install it. Please help!
Youll have to root your tablet then you can install apks locally. Alternatively you can try easy installer. You will need a internet connection as its required by the Market to install apps.

I don't think you have to root to install apps locally... as long as you have the unknown sources option checked, you can install apps from wherever you want. If you have a desktop with internet that you can get to, you can download the apk's from various torrent sites, and I think there is a web version of the android market? I'm sure there are other places as well, just search on Google. anywhooo, then just transfer the file over to your A500 via the USB cable or flash drive, and open the file through the app manager option that pops up when you tap on it, then click install.
I have had no problem download APKs onto my desktop computer and then putting them on a Micro SD card to use on the A500 without having to root anything.
u can use Docs to go to navigate to .apk on your tablet and launch instal from there. Thats my way)

Congrats on getting your Inconia!
For apps like the filemanager you could just download them from the Android marketplace, then they would install themselves. Otherwise, place them on your sd card if you're downloading to your PC first. Apps will also install if they are in your download folder on the tablet (say for example, if you download from the dev's website or email them to yourself as an attachment).
One thing you might have to do first is check the setting that allows you to install "unsigned" third-party app. I believe it's: Setting->Applications->Unknown Sources.
From what I understand, there's not much concern of installing something harmful anymore (for which this setting was designed to protect against), but I could be wrong. Just be careful who you are getting the app from if it's not from the market, a dev's site or a reputable person here at the forum.
That's my $.02 Have fun!
Just get a home network!
Enjoy your Iconia....I love mine!
Congratulations
- No need to root for installing apk, just check the checkbox (the Iconia will told you what you have to do anyway)
- Get a wifi quick
Need Moboplayer and A good office editor
Hi, I still need few days to set up my WiFi network at home, in the mean time, can any one share any direct download link to .apk files like moboplayer and a good office editor?

NST - Can't Browse or open non-market apps.

Hi All,
Rooted my nook, market worked on the second day as posted on threads all seems well..
Installed multitouch app thanks to this site, and downloaded ES file explorer from Google Play website straight to my nook in hopes to install the norefresh tool here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568560
Just 2 issues.
1. When trying to install norefresh tool, I get some message that for security, no non-market apss can be downloaded. I found a thread saying to initiate the process of downloading an Amazon App to find the "secret menu" in order to change this setting.. However, see problem #2 below...
2. No browsers work.
Opera Mini doesn't open, and I tried pushing into my nook from my desktop by re-downloading Opera Mini.. Install looked fine, when I try to open Opera Mini on my NST, I see it start but then it ultimately fails when I try to open.. For the generic browser, it opens, but when I try to search it just brings me back to the Android Homepage.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Did you enable non market apps using "Nook color tools"?
Remember the box is checked when nook color tools comes up.
You need to uncheck it and then recheck the box.
Opera mini does not work for me too. Opera mobile works fine.
Searchmarket is useful to get market search working
Hope this helps

The default browser doesn't bring you back to the android homepage, it just crashes

[Q] Adding browser back to [or fixing] a rooted Nook Simple Touch

Sorry for the total noob question, but here goes. I have rooted my NST, using the following instructions: http://tinymicros.com/wiki/NOOK_Simple_Touch_%28NST%29_Rooting_For_Practiscore Forgive the external link, I just wanted to be clear on where I am at.
If this isn't acceptable, apparently the source of the info is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346748 and I used the "the 'Normal + Xorzone's mods + adb Wifi' build "
Practiscore works flawlessly and my nook does what I need it to do. Now I have been thinking that it would be cool to be able to surf the web or at least be able to use the internet over wifi to load apps without having to load it on the SD card manually.
Right now, when I open the browser, it will actually open www.google.com when I set it to the home page but then crash whenever I try to do anything - even just clicking on the search box. The fact that it will actually open google, tells me my connection is working, but either the root process broke the browser, or something else is wrong. I can also open the market and get it to show me some apps, but it won't let me search or surf to any app. Searching just hangs and displays nothing.
I've tried searching but I haven't had any luck in picking the proper search terms to get an answer, and for some reason there is a script running wild on this page that refreshes it every 2 seconds interrupting what I am doing. That problem is probably on my PC, but firefox is what I have.
Ok, I got some things to install by d/l'ing the APK's directly to the SD card on a PC. I still haven't gotten the app store to work, or google.
The app store search will not work on your nook touch, the only way to install apps are either sideloading them or installing them wirelessly using google play on your computer.
You may want to use Opera Mobile instead of the basic browser, it would be easier than getting the stock one working.

Ok, this thing is just not working, everything I try in the market or using the browser just crashes. I downloaded the opera mini, but I didn't get an apk, so I have no idea how to install the extracted files. Most of the apk's I have found to put on here don't work either and just crash. I cant even get hangman or a crossword to load for pete's sake...
Did you root it to run Practiscore on?
If not, I'd suggest restoring your backup, upgrading to 1.2.1 firmware, then using NookManager with NTGAppsAttack (see the Nook Touch Android Development Forum here on xda). That worked just fine for me. But I don't need to run Practiscore.

Yes, the link in the OP was what I used.
1. NTGAppsAttack - working google play
2. use SeachMarket.apk to look for APK's in Google play.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38323047&postcount=6
3. Use Opera Mobile instead of Mini.
4. To manually install .apk (without using ADB)
- put it on your uSD.
- open it using Relaunch or any other file browser that you use.

You sir are a genius. The searchmarket and Opera mobile WORK!!
Now all I have to figure out is how to get rid of those extra apps [that suck and don't work]
Oh and maybe a pdf reader that works...
..and is the screen supposed to go all wonky for a second whenever I do anything? Or is there a new video driver?

[Q] Installing 3rd party apps on Nook Simple Touch

Hello there,
I have rooted my nook simple touch using the guide found bellow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35267728#post35267728
It worked out after a while of struggling, but now I am wondering how am I able to install 3rd party android apps on it? I have downloaded a test .apk application on the nook toc heck either it is working. It comes out that it doesnt, but maybe its because i went browsing for it using the library app, as I havent found any other file browser on the system. I amrunning the latest 1.2.1 version.
I Would really aprichiate some help in this matter, I tried googling out but i havent found anything specific to help me solve the problem, there were some solutions to the newer models that dont apply for me.
@bremenpl,
Arguably, the best file explorer available for the Nook Touch is ES File Explorer 3 (free on Google Play). It's what I use.
To enable 3rd-party app installation, install NookColor Tools, open the app, and check the box for "Allow Non-Market Apps".
The problem is I dont have any file browser at all and I cant install any .apk on my nook. NookColor Tools is also an .apk and I cannot open this kind of file in library browser. How to overcome that? I dont have google apps installed as I didnt want to install google play, gmail and etc. I tried loging into amazon appstore that is installed, but it doesnt accept my login nad password.

Ah, I see your point. Thankfully, this can be remedied if you have either ADB set up, the app Terminal Emulator, or both. What do you have?
I have none of it. Whats more straight forward to do?

I'd say Terminal Emulator, but that's yet another app that you need non-market permission to install.
ADB it is, then. PM me for extensive installation instructions.
