Woke up to a [possibly] bricked Atrix :( - Atrix 4G General

Yup. Left phone on charger overnight - woke up and the camera was flashing every 2 seconds. That's all it will do. Whether it's hooked up, unhooked. As long as the battery's in that's what it does. No rom changes in over 2 weeks. No damage of any sort.... no recovery or anything

Well you can probably do a warranty exchange.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

I had something similar with my nexus one. Except it wasnt the camera but the trackball... changing kernels around seem to help a bit but eventually i took it for water damage. Take the battery out and let it dry off for a day or two. You can also try to pry it open and have your hand at any corrosion if you find any. However i wouldnt recommend that unless you know what yer doing.

He said it was left on the charger, not fell in water.
I'd crap my pants if this happened to me.

I realize that but like i said i had the same experience and my phone didnt get noticably wet at any time could have been a single drop of water and corrosion takes a while to build up.
Still...
Im wondering if you used your original charger when this happend because i can personally say ive seen my atrix behaving strange when connected to some cheap random charger (touch screen not working for example). Didnt believe it could cause permenant damage though.

It was hooked up with a Blackberry charger, actually.
Still acts the same.

Check the charger to see if its power ratings are different than your otiginal one.
Also... does the device boot up in any way or is the screen simply black and the flash flickering no matter what?

Looking at it today, I noticed that the charger port (or inlet if you will) is very structurally loose. The voltage on the blackberry charger is about 3/5 that of the stock Atrix charger, if memory serves me - somebody at work switched out the chargers the day after I got the phone. It took a good 6 hours to charge...
ATT said that it would be full cost of phone, because it's personal damage.
I'm looking into the Mi-One.
EDIT: No, the screen will not even begin to come on. Camera flashing is the only indicator of any power. Used an external battery charger, and two different batteries.

The MI-One looks sweet!!!!

Moto will probably either fix it or send you another phone. I know people who bricked from trying to downgrade and they got another phone. I'm sure you could too. I would try that before you buy another phone.
ETA: Now that I think about it not being able to put the rom back to stock would probably be an issue if they can get it to turn on but if they can't they might replace it.

I also think you should bring it up with motorola. Waking up to find your phone bricked is hardly what id call personal damage. You also shouldn't bring up the charger issue. And as for the usb port i'd say it would take too much effort to discern the connection with that and the phone acting as it is, and im sure they would rather just send a replacement unit.
A usb port malfunctioning is hardly an account for personal damage. The usual case is they simply stop working, but definitely not brick your entire phone.

Yes my phone shut down on its own. Rebooted it launched car mode right away I went and shut it off and then BLANK.
And now if i can even get it to power on it does for less thn a second before going dark.
I tried both my extended and stock battery. Phone be dead.
Next question can I take it into a sprint store and have it replaced under a defect or am i shelling out cash?

With the battery inserted and the phone off, plug it into the wall outlet. Does the orange/green light turn on?
Try unplugging the charger and remove the battery. Then press and hold the power button (to flush any left over charge).
Insert the battery and power it up. Let us know the results.
Also, did you do anything to your phone? (i.e. SetCPU? Flash a .zip file)
Good luck dude.
I have done all of that.
ALSO NO LIGHT COMES ON WHEN PLUGGED IN with any of my batteries. (STOCK and a 3500mAh battery)
I have put on set cpu using the profile ONDEMAND
I did not flash anything. It was on sitting there next to me and it just shut off. I was not doing anything at the time. When I turned it back on it was in car mode like it sensed the dock. I was like okay well bugs happen. So i swipe down turn it off. And then the car mode indicator stayed on and i was thinking well wtf. Then my screen went black. I then pushed the power button and i swiped to enter into the home screen which was black then a few seconds latter it gave me the loading screen like it was loading sense then *DEAD* ...

Sounds like the phone is pretty much toast then. There shouldn't be any harm in taking the phone in and seeing if a warranty exchange will be done. At worst they'll tell you that you gotta pay up, and at best they'll either be able to fix it or offer a replacement free of charge.
If you gotta pay up then you do always have the choice of refusing, in which case you're left in exactly the same situation you are now; a broken phone and no money out of your pocket. I say take it in, see what happens. No guarantees either way but surely it's gotta be worth a shot.
I got a sprint store that does not do repairs but its a corporate sized store.
Then inn victorville I have a store that is a 3rd party store but offers all services except 4g... They are on the same road. So tomorrow I am hitting the sprint one first to see what the deal is.
Anyways I think i might get warranty due to it just failing all of a sudden.
Also do i have to give them my memory card back?

I start tomorrow again.
You never give the SD card back. It's been a while since I've gotten a replacement phone, but I'm fairly sure you get to keep the charger cable and a/c adapter as well.
That is how it should work.
Have them boost your battery on their cadex machine anyway.
I've seen people come in with supposedly fried phones that wouldn't light up for anything. Quick cadex boost and they're out the door with a working phone again.

Hopefully you didn't have your phone overclocked and caused it to go haywire. What kind of Kernel did you use? Was it SBC or non-SBC?
Well my EVO came back alive... Idk why but it just did.. I don't understand why it would re act like this.
But I do not over clock. I use on demand and smart ass for battery. I dont over clock but i under clock to 128 for min. I use the freedom aggressive v8 . I have not had a problem with undervolting ever before..

Battery life gone crazy

okay i need help i have been been jumping from rom to rom trying "EVERY" fix that its on this site trying to fix this issue flashing kernal after kernal but nothing is working i thought it was my battery but i brought it to a sprint tech and he said the battery tested good so now i'm really lost okay here it goes My battery will drain from 100% down to 80% within 5 minutes and usually will be dead within 2 1/2 hours after being off of the charger with moderate usage such as calls text and checking email. and then the craziest **** happen to me when i was trying the htc fix posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=htc the phone will hit 0% and shutdown; I'll place it on the charger (AC wall charger, not the usb adapter) until the orange LED stops blinking; I'll turn the phone on and once it's fully booted it will read 53%......all of this within 5mins of going dead! WTF!!! have the most recent radios/PRI/PRL with this rom stock no tweaks and before like 2 week ago ny battery life was great i was running decks newest but i flash the flyer express and the rainy day rom and ever since battery life went crazy
Have you tried a different battery?
Nah that's my next move but bye the tech at Sprint saying my battery was good figured I wasn't the battery

SBC never worked well after the first charge for me it wouldn't charge unless I flashed something else then back. Weird I know. Anyway I bought 2 extended batteries off eBay and it came with an external charger. My silicone cover fits it without a battery cover so it's hardly noticeable. In the morning before work I grab the spair and last all day now streaming the radio. Oh btw just in case anyone else streams just as much as I do, sprint WILL send you a letter if too much of it is from roaming. And no I have stock prls.

I have 3 EVO's in the house so I have bought about 6 batteries off of ebay with these small dock chargers just to keep on hand. When a battery is getting low, I just shut down the phone and insert a freshly charged one. They are really cheap, $3 or $4 each. Some of them come from US sellers so they arrive in a couple of days. They seem to work just as good and last just as long as the ones supplied by HTC, probably made in the same factories in China.
I should have just bought several of those instead of the extended but I kinda have gotten used to the silicon case holding my battery in. When its swap time there is no prying fingernails under the cover. And the camera seems to he more protected.

[Q] Problem charging

Im no longer able to recharge my A500. Last charge was two days ago and now the battery is dead and it wont charge. Should be no problem with the charger or cord as far I can see. Any ideas? Anyone had the same problem?

Could be 2 things.
1. Charger is fubarred
2. Battery is toasted
Charger you can check with a multi-meter.
Technically, if your tab isn't under warranty, you can find instructions and pop the back cover off and actually change the battery (if you can find a replacement)
How about giving it a good hard smack on the back as an attitude adjustment?
Did you wiggle the plug when it's connected? (while watching the on/off switch)
As a last ditch effort, put the tab in the freezer for 30 minutes. Freezing cold does wonders for electronic contact points. An old trick for dead hard drives, along with the good 'ol fashioned smack.

Yeah, I thought about that also awhile ago (hence the wiggle jiggle and watching the light) Also hear if you're not careful, the jack itself can get pretty loose, losing contact. It doesn't appear to be the strongest of things, but, one just has to be a little careful I guess.

not charging

im down to 13%, i did a full reset.
i have it turned off currently, it shows a charger is plugged in for about 2 seconds and then that one is not plugged in. i have tried about 5 different chargers now.
anyone else have this? any ideas?
it is at&t stock. never rooted or rommed
i have removed the sim and sd-card.
could it be the battery?
i still have it turned off and plugged in. it had a quick flash of a red battery.
It's been charging for about 30 minutes turned off, powered it up, is taking a charge, just slowly. I think it's a bad battery. I work for att, I'll swap the battery out tomorrow and report if it was a bad battery or not so if others have this issue they will know what's wrong.
OK, went and got a new battery and it did not fix it.
Anyone got any ideas?
I just factory reset it as well, so to recap,
Factory reset, and new battery, 6 different chargers tried. Im assuming bad phone unfixable by me.
Are you rooted?

same problem
got the unbranded version in the Netherlands. No special stuff going on (i.e. no root or exotic cables/chargers)
had this a couple of days earlier but after removing the battery, swapping wall outlets, (several) Usb2 and usb3 cables it started charging again. I don't know what set it off to start charging again
with the phone on, it did display in the status bar that is was charging, just the battery didn't fill up. So it did recognize the fact that there was power coming through the cable
before it started charging, when the phone was turned off and i put the cable in it, the phone started vibrating with intervals and a line appeared on the screen at longer intervals.
after turning the phone off, the charging led indicator did not burn even though the charging cable was connected
since i've been able to recharge it a couple of times since, i thought it was an one-off freak incident
Just now the problem came back and i'm going through all the stupid things described above: pulling out batteries, switching chargers, blowing down the connecor in case some dust or something else was blocking the pins.
No luck so far.
suggestions are welcome
This happened to my exynos version (India ) yesterday. I remember charging through my laptop before this happened. Strangely after i reconnected it to power it would not charge though the charging icon was showing up. After sometime somehow it started charging again. This has never happened before and I am not sure what's wrong. If this continues I am done with Samsung.
Sad to say I'm having the same issue on my week old Note 3.
It charged fine for the first few days but now I've determined that I have to put slight pressure on the cable to maintain a charging state. Basically if the phone is face down, I have to press down slightly on the USB3.0 connector.
Since I've rooted and flashed I'm not too keen on taking the new phone in for service so I've ordered another cable to test.
I read on another forum that people were having problems charging with the original OEM cable but no problems with USB2.0 cables and replacement USB3.0 cables. Hope that's the case, but it seems to me that the charging port may be bad.
Mine doesn't charge at all via computer when the screen is on (it shows charging, but the charge goes down), only through wall charger...wtf is going on?
If the phone barely charges or not at all when turned on, yet it still detects a charge, there's something running that drains more power than is being supplied. Start by checking active apps.
I had this on the IC Amsterdam - Berlin when I was playing a game, it kept going down at full rate even with the charger connected (The DB has powersockets in their trains, the thing the NS is too cheap to do.). Turned out the game was still running in the background even though I had quit it.
Force-quit everything non-critical in running applications and voila, it started charging. Slowly, but it did.
Another thing that bears relevance to mention is that sometimes there's not enough charge coming through a socket, usually when there's already too many devices on a single group or the socket is limited (like in trains, campsites, planes...)

im having the same problem. im startint to think its is an issue with the usb socket on the phone.
I read some where that if you let the phone go completely flat and then let the phone charge without turning it back on it (just leave it on the sceen with the battery charging icon). I've tried and this seems to help (I only did this yesterday and pluged the phone in again after some use this morning and its charging again).
But I think there is an underlying issue with the hardware sometime my phone indicates that it has connected to dock when this isn't the case, only for a second but I think with the problems charging and the issue with the false dock connection would suggest that there is something wrong with the usb port itself.
Im probably going to take mine in for repair.

This usually happens when there are metalic particles in the USB port.

Thanks, I had a close look for any sort of dirt/conductive sort of material but it seems to be clear.
I keep the phone in a case which protects the ports and keep everything as clean as possible. The phone is only a couple of weeks old so it's still quite fresh.
But i know what you mean the usb terminals are small it would only take a small bit of something to cause a problem.

This might sound crazy, but try this... Drop your phone from a height of about 2 feet onto probably a hard foam or soft wood or that kinda thing.. Drop it on it's back of course. Anyways, 2 Feet is a very short drop for phone to get damaged. Just try.

Apart from the fact that it would take me longer to calculate how much 2 feet is than it takes for the phone to fall, I think I can speak for most people here when I say I'm rather hesitant to let a 700 euro/1200 dollar phone fall off anything.
The idea alone is rather disconcerting...
You could just as well give it a good whack with your flat palm, as the idea is to jar the wiring into place.
'Apply blunt force', One of the more classic troubleshooting approaches. No longer advisable these days, technology is ever so much more fragile than it was in the days of Nokias that could be used to commit murder by means of blunt force trauma and tv's that could electrocute you just by looking at it.

'Apply blunt force', One of the more classic troubleshooting approaches. No longer advisable these days, technology is ever so much more fragile than it was in the days of Nokias that could be used to commit murder by means of blunt force trauma and tv's that could electrocute you just by looking at it.

Mate 2 feet is like 2 notebooks high, or 1 closed laptop high. And it's not falling of something, it's likee playfully dropping ur phone. But of course! You shouldn't try it if you don't want to, ok?
And I don't know where you guys buy your phones or what the currency situation is in your countries, but I got my phone for $700 (510 euros) in my country on release day. Which includes 2 years ADH warranty and 2 years regular warranty. :victory:

1000USD+ is very normal for a smartphone in the EU. Long live the Euro... NOT.
The price is still 678euro in the Netherlands (which they make look less cheap by fooling everyone into thinking the price is 578, which it actually is with 100 euro cashback after you buy it... And of course they all fall for it, some even use it as arguments )...
The Note 3 was 750 Euro in the Netherlands (699 Germany where I got it) upon release day, a whopping 1400USD in the exhange ratings at that time. 'So buy it here/there/whereever and have it shipped' (I've had this discussion a thousand times with all those americans) No, there was no regionlock away or even root at that time yet.
All electronic prices are ridiculously, pointlessly high here.
Would that be a 17.3" or 15" laptop? Horizontal or vertical?

Phone burned through cable

Has anyone had this before?
My phone burned through the cable I received with it.
http://imgur.com/ZLXNU8E
I tried charging it today, but the charging light didn't turn on. Didn't think much of it, but when I removed it from the charger after 10 minutes, I smelled burned plastic. And part of the cable got stuck in the phone. Had to pry it out with pliers.
Phone doesn't charge anymore, but it still works.
Really glad I noticed it in time, otherwise I could have had a fire on my hands... Was really hot
Sucks pretty hard to be without a phone for the time now.
Guess I'll start annoying the hell out of google and LG until they fix it?
Yes, a couple people have had this already:

Yes. I have heard of this.
And it scares the h*ll out of me!
I'm not a fan of fast charging due to this issue. I've seen it happen on other devices as well. Batteries are not meant to charge at such rates. I'd rather have a slower charge personally
This is why whenever I charge my phone, I keep the AC/Cooler/fan on of that room, keeps the phone temp low and helps in faster charging.
Whut? This is actually very concerning....is this a usb type c problem you think? Or does this happen with other phones too?
You should report this to LG
This needs more media attention. I don't think anyone has zeroed in on what's causing it yet. This could happen to all of us for all I know.
Need a response from Google.
Definitely not charging my phone over night anymore, Google and LG need to look into this.

I absolutely adored my galaxy note 2 back in the day, probably would have kept it for another two years had it not burnt to a crisp overnight. I woke up and my bedpost was smoking, almost burnt myself touching the note 2 when I woke up. Took off the back and it was absolutely destroyed, some parts completely burnt. Shame this is happening to people, its a scary thing to wake up to

I suspect this isn't very widespread, but it's kind of scary. I've always charged my phones overnight, and don't really want to stop now.

I had this happen with my old HTC Desire way back when. Woke up in the middle of the night to a burning smell. Could hardly touch the phone it was so hot. Battery was swelled up to the point it was deforming the back cover of the phone.

i just purchased the 5x on saturday and paid for 1 day shipping so hoping to get it tomorrow. but this is making me worried... i might get a usb type c charger thats rated at much lower current to help prevent this instead of using the included 3A charger. or get a standard usb to type c cable and use a regular 1-1.5A charger.

I use a USB-A to Type C cable with a Samsung 2.0A charger for overnight. Just cause I don't need to fast charge while I'm sleeping.

Same thing happened to my LG nexus 5x. The phone works but does not charge anymore. Very bad as LG claims that it is out of warranty due to customer usage. Really bad!!

Speaking generally, this almost always has happened, for years, to people who pull the cord by the wire, not by the plug. My wife is terrible about this and she goes through 3-4 cords to my one.
Anyway, that may not fully explajn this problem, bug it'll sure makd it more likely.
Well. I just googled and I found this article. My nexus 5x just burned yesterday and the worst was that everything was wood, even the floors. It almost started a fire at my home yesterday and I am mad because of that.
There is a picture I attached and I'm returning it tomorrow because I had it for almost 3 weeks now.
