Phone died on trip to U.S. - Desire HD General

Been in the U.S for the last 10 days and my DHD has only functioned for the first day of the trip (I'm from the UK). I switched it on after landing and got 4 bars with an R next to them, but have had nothing but a small x since that first day. The wifi doesn't work either. When I turn the wifi on it just says scanning and never finds any networks that I can see are available on other devices. Phone is rooted and ROM'd, so I guess if it has died on me my warranty is out the window? I don't think it is a year old yet...
Any sugestions before I drop it off a ladder and claim on the insurance??

Your warranty is fine as long as you flash a stock rom and unroot. I would try flashing a stable custom ROM and see if this fixes your problems before anything else.
I'm currently using rcmix 3d runnymede and loving it.
It's also my understanding USA runs on older networks that might not be supported on your handset. Hence why European phones differ from that of their US counterparts

AT&T's EDGE 2G network should function on your DHD, as should T-Mobile US's. Wifi should also work as we use channels 1-11 on this side of the pond, compared to Europe's 1-13. Try flashing another ROM after a nandroid backup and see what happens. Also, you could get a US prepaid SIM and see if that works.

Back in UK and working fine again (posting this from phone). Need to check wifi when I get home from the airport still. Weird!
Thanks for the replies all.

Htc hd2 - terrible reception - drops when picked up ( .. Yeah i know..)

Ok hello everyone i got a huge problem in my hands. I bought a HTC HD2 for my girlfriend and proceeded to go through the awesome process of flashing all the recoveries and what not.
Its currently sitting with latest MAG/HARDSPL and latest MIUI rom working great.
The biggest issue i have encountered is the fact that the signal is horrible, wont go over 2 bars EVER, unless it drops all the way down and switches over to Edge then has full bars (witch i don't get) She gets a connection to H for maybe 15 seconds then drops to 3G then drops to nothing.
Funniest thing is once you pick it up you can see the bars just go way down, i have goggled like a madman, researched the most i can, tried different Radio and Rom combinations.
We both are under the Simple Mobile network and i have a G2x and the signal is perfect on my phone her struggles wherever we go
I've been reading this guide and i might decide to do this, unless someone with the same issue has found a different solution to the issue.

I would appreciate any help and thank you guys for taking the time to read this.
I've been going through this latley I'm on my 4th hd2 since February and 3rd sim card...second phone this week they mailed to me...but anyways I finally talked to a network tech from T-Mobile and he said its not the phone or sim its actually the transmission line on the network and that they will have a tech come out and rerun my codes through the system and basically restart the network router.I'm suppose to hear something back n upto 72hrs so it may be possible u have same issue as me..

Poor Reception Quality

Hi, I have a Desire Z running stock ROM on Android 2.3.3. The software number is 2.42.161.20. I am on the Vodafone UK network and live in Mid-Sussex (southern England).
My Cell reception is quite frankly rubbish - most of the time I do not have enough of a signal to send a text, let alone make a call.
The weird thing is my Wife has an original Desire, also on Vodafone UK and has no problems at all.
To put this into perspective I am looking at the two devices side by side at the moment and her Desire shows 100% signal - my Desire Z shows zero!
I know the phone is generally OK as I work in the centre of London and pretty much get a 100% signal strength the whole time there (although everyone seems to get 100% signal in Central London regardless of Network!).
Does anyone know if this is a fault with my Desire Z (a bit of dodgy software/firmware perhaps)? If so is there anything I can do about it??
I am a big fan of physical keyboards so was hoping to hang on to my Desire Z for quite a while yet - my Contract runs out in November and I was going to move over to a 30day rolling SIM only deal, such as Three or GiffGaff, however there may not be much point if I can't make calls/send texts! (I'll have to sign up on another contract to get a new phone!).
Any hints, tips or tricks that anyone can suggest would be gratefully received.
root the phone so you can change the radio to the one she has, after this you should be fine

Thanks for replying!
Sorry if this is a daft question - but how do I find out which radio she has?
As I said she has a regular original HTC Desire. It too is still running stock. It has Android Version 2.2, software number 2.33.161.2 and kernel version 2.6.32.15-g2633d94
I have never rooted a phone before (not through fear of messing it up - just never felt the need) so I am not totally up on the process.
I take it from your post that the 'Radio' is the bit that deals with the signal strength then and it is generic across numerous devices?
Thanks again.
there are maybe 10 diffrent cellular radios that can be used with our phones, you can compare yours and hers by powering on and holding the camera button

Switching orange and T-Mobile to EE UK

Hi guys. Just a heads up. If anyone is struggling with signal since the merger and they're phone hasn't already updated to carrier settings to display EE, if you send a text with the word yes to 2121
You will receives the settings manually. Your phone will automatically receives thuse settings in the coming weeks but for those that haven't already there is a solution !

A few of us at work are on O2 and have noticed a significant increase in our signal, non of us could get H at all in the building where I work but now we do. I've not followed who's getting 4G and when but even without it I'm loving it already.
Cheers for the heads up.

[Q] Nexus 4 LTE in Canada - Stopped Working

Hello,
I have a Nexus 4, my carrier is Telus. I have had my phone for 3 weeks now. When I first got it, I used the *#*#4636#*#* trick to get LTE on my phone. It worked great! According to speed test I was getting 27mbps download, whereas on HSPA+ i got 7mbps.
In the last two days, for some reason my phone will not work on the LTE network. I get full bars but they are grey. Also, when the connection used to work, there would be flashing up and down arrows on the signal bars. Now, there is only a flashing up arrow (no down arrow).
I called telus tech support and had them reset the connection to my phone, I also bought a new micro sim card, neither worked.
I do not require LTE by any means, but it is disappointing that I cannot figure this out. Has anyone had a similar problem? I spent the last few days checking other posts and there doesn't seem to be anything similar posted. If there is, I apologize, I am a noob, and I watched the noob video.
Take care

Hey there. Fell Canadian (and TELUS customer) here. I live in British Columbia, and I just checked my LTE and it seems to be working. Are you using a custom ROM? What Baseband version do you have? I'm on M9615A 2.0.1700.33. Hope this helps.

I am in Toronto. I told google that my device makes a buzzing noise (which it does) and they are sending me a replacement. Hopefully the new phone won't have the same connectivity issues.
Did you try changing your APN settings? I know for Rogers customers, there is a specific/different APN to use when you want to use their LTE network on your Nexus 4.
does it work without LTE? if you go back into the settings and change it back to the default, does it work on HSPA+ or 3g?
My LTE works, and is really really fast. download is about 90mbits/s and upload is about 75. I am in Barrie Ontario, on Koodo.
However, the speedtest app will not work, no matter what I do. So I have to use some other crappy app. Anyone else?

Any aussies on XT905 and Optus 4G?

Any Aussies here with a Telstra XT905 but on Optus and with 4G active?
I'm finding with 4G active I get intermittent signal dropouts - it will go from even 5 bars to none then re-connect shortly. This is intermittent and random, I don't know how often its really happening unless I just happen to see it when I've got the screen on. I started noticing it as it seems to drop voice calls when it happens, normally doesn't kick in on a voice call until >5 minutes.
If I turn off 4G all is fine.
I tried freezing modem fast dormancy and modem stats service as it seemed to be triggering lots of wakelocks, but that didn't affect it.
I'm feeling dumb now signing up for another year and enabling 4G, could have kept trucking on my cheaper non 4G plan lol (and be coming out of contract around now!).
Note I'm on Optus, i have no idea if this happens if I am Telstra. The problem is too intermittent for me to pop in a temporary Telstra SIM and notice it (as I don't want my 'real' number to be offline for more than a short duration). I'm hoping it is indeed carrier related (i.e. so problem is fixed if I go back to Telstra, as opposed to hardware issue). Its intermittent enough so that its impossible to demonstrate in a store, and further I've unlocked/rooted so there goes my warranty anyway!
I'm the only one? Even if you don't have any issues w/ Optus 4G pls let me know so I can distinguish between a phone issue and a general Optus 4G compatibility issue.
3G appears rock solid, switched back to it (battery life FTW) and no issues again.

Telstra marketing and exclusive really hurt this phone. Nobody knows it exists but when they see it they want one as it's got all the high end goodies just not gigantic sized

Not sure if I agree. We've all purchased this "niche" phone so it has a market, but Motorola phones are generally not anywhere near as popular as say SG3 or the like.
Personally I've always used Moto phones since I had the Moto Z6, what a beast! Best sound on a phone ever (ok may of that generation!).
A lot of ppl got put off by the allegedly crappy screen and price.
