Lol nice, I have no need but there are A LOT of people who can benefit from this especially in the O3D and Thrill forums. I think you are going to get a lot of praise for this if it all works.

How about GAF, Graphical ADB Front-End
ANT, ADB Noob Tool
ATLAS, A Tool for Lost ADB Sufferers
I/O ADB, If Only (I knew) ADB

Haha cool names. I might change it to something more general because I've been thinking of adding non-ADB stuff related to android.
Thanks for the good feedback Urabewe
To everyone:
If someone wants something added to the program just request it and I'll try my best to implement it.
Also please post suggestions and feedback so I can know what to do.

This is amazing! Definitely a great replacement for the original ADB where I always forget commands.
You should have an option to start an emulator where you specify a device name and press start. The original way to start an emulator is going to (sdk folder)/tools and typing "emulator -avd (emulator name)"

Just want to say thank you for this as I haven't ever used adb before this made it very easy. I recently broke my samsung captivate's digitizer but the phone would power on still but you couldn't do anything, luckily I had debugging on. This program was able to save everything that I had on my internal memory and pull it to my computer. I just want to say a big thank you for this program.
Edit: I know its not much, wish I could have done more but hope this helps some what as you have helped me

Thank you very much nightshack0.

If you do end up adding other general android features it would be awesome if you and Ehoba combined tools and created an android super tool that could deal with adb and themeing and more.
Here's a link to his IDIOT(If Droids Insist On Themes) Tool.

I still don't know which features to add, that's why I'm asking for help, so people tell me what features or anything else they want added.
EDIT:
Next update coming this weekend will fix an important bug (The program isn't running as administrator), and a ZIP Flasher bug. Also it will come with a GPS Fixer related to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233359 implemented using the Zip Flasher.

how do i fix this? it wont let me change the size or see anything else?

Well that's really strange...can anyone tell me if they're also having this problem??
Sorry for that, though it doesn't happen to me, I'll fix it.
I will enable resizing on the next update and will implement a save option to save your default size so this doesn't happen.
I'll release a mini update in some hours to fix your problem ASAP.
Anyways, some news... The next update will come with a VNC client so you can control your phone with the computer or see the screen of it.
I have many ideas but my programming skills are somewhat limiting me. I'll probably figure out how to do it so expect some cool new features on future releases.

Well right now with the zip flasher tool you can flash a CWM flashable zip
But I think you're talking about fastboot right? Does that work for all devices? because I think that Samsung's captivate, which is the device I have isn't compatible with that, but i'm not sure about that. If it isn't that might be difficult because I have no way of testing it. I will anyways try to look on how fastboot works and will try to integrate it in a test release.

Nope, right now it isn't, might look into a cross platform language.
I think mono works for windows and Linux and i'm not sure if it also works for Mac.

[MOD/PATCH] Gallery3D higher res | Development stopped

Development stopped
Although this mod had great success with several thousands of different users, just as everything else, it has been surpassed by time. Since it was first introduced, many competent devs made great changes to the Gallery3D's functions. These changes made it hard to keep up with the latest developments without introducing bugs, and due to the lack of time, I might have neglected it sometimes. Luckily, this mod has already been in CyanogenMod for a while, meaning all of it's users got the latest and greatest of this mod, as well as others. So instead of patching the Gallery manually, check out the latest version of CyanogenMod.
If you want to use this in other custom ROMs, either point your devs to this post and ask them to compile in the relevant changes from the github link, or extract the apk from the latest CyanogenMod since it will contain many more fixes and performance improvements that have been added in the last few months.
Thanks to all who contributed to this project!

UPDATE 12.2.2011.
Well, thanks to user de_MarK, the black borders problem has now been fixed! Should be working on most devices without any problems.
Thanks again!
[Comparison]
Here is a demo of how this will improve your images if you don't touch VMMaxHeapSize. If you do increase the former, expect even better results.
I found an image of a transmitter on top of a building to be best for comparison since it has very high contrast and sharp lines. Screenshots were taken off my Desire using DDMS.
http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/9451/gallery3dpatchdemo.png
Notice how the transmitter and power cables look differently.
The original photo (5mpx) is here:
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/6189/imag0106z.jpg
[Will it work?]
Reported to work on various devices and various ROMs. If, by any chance, this doesn't work on your phone, report here.
User Airwalker82 reported that even 12MPx images are loaded without problems. Thanks for that!
[Installation]
If your ROM didn't come with Gallery3D preinstalled:
Uninstall any versions of Gallery3D present and install the .apk.
If your ROM came with Gallery3D or the above method fails:
You will need to remove the existing Gallery3D.apk in /system/app. You can use any method you prefer for this, however, those owning a Desire will have to do it from recovery through ADB shell.
Code:
Step by step:
1) Connect the phone to the PC
2) Open a Command Prompt (WinKey+R->type 'cmd'->enter)
3) Using the command 'cd', navigate to the directory where the Android SDK is installed
4) Use 'cd' again to enter the 'tools' directory
5) Type 'adb reboot recovery'
6) The phone should restart
7) Once in recovery, type 'adb shell' to get the shell interface
8) Now type 'rm -rf /system/app/Gallery3D.*'
9) Disconnect and reboot the phone
Now simply install the .apk.

I don't know how many of you have noticed, but, although beautiful, Gallery3D doesn't really load images at their full resolution, unlike the default Sense Gallery. Infact, the difference is quite dramatic on my phone. So, today I decided to get the sources and see if something can be done. And indeed it can!
So I present to you my patched version of Gallery 3D!
Although I couldn't manage to get it to load full res images, the difference is quite noticeable (but it isn't anything like Sense )
Anyhow, what's going on here? As some of you may or may not know, Android has a VERY limited amount of memory allocated for bitmaps which are necessary for showing images. For an example, even with the best phones today, you can't load a 5mpx image as a bitmap. That's why Gallery3D downscales images when loading them. The problem is, it doesn't upscale them when zooming in! So, what I did is I downloaded the latest sources from AOSP and changed the downscaling algorithm a bit so the images are downscaled 2x less (which equals to 4x more detail). Now, since I only have my Desire at hand, I couldn't really test this properly, however, this should experience no problems with images that are 5mpx (that's what I was able to test).
I would, however, like you to try and load some larger images (something of a DSLR, like 10mpx) and report on how it works.

Can't say for sure. It wouldn't install for me over the default one I had installed. However, if it came with your ROM, you just might be able to overwrite it. Try it and report back
14.1 mpx images look great in the thumbs! A bit slow on initial load, but seems ok after that.
Does anyone know of a screenshot application that can run on non-rooted devices? I'd like to take a screenshot so I can show how the 14.1 mpx thumbs show up like.
One thing though - It picks up album art, and as a result I have numerout galleries showing that are just an artist/album folder. Is there a way to include options that allow you to select which albums to show/hide?
thanks for the great work!
Works great on defrost 2.6a rom!

DDMS from the Android SDK should work on non-rooted devices. (Nice guide here: http://www.androidcentral.com/taking-screenshots-without-root) Just remember, if you are on Linux, you need to start it as root.

Hmm, well, no way of including the show/hide without some serious rewriting. However, if the album art is in it's separate folder, you could try the .nomedia trick (just be careful and make sure the folder is empty before applying .nomedia). If it isn't, the best option might be to just encode art directly into the mp3 tag. Some of my MP3s have album art in their tags so it doesn't show up in Gallery.
This isn't a problem of the app itself, more of the Android Content Provider for media which scans all folders for images, videos and songs.

you should use the recovery mode in "ROM Manager", this makes it a little easier for you.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.koushikdutta.rommanager
Install the apk from market, than install the "update.zip" from inside "ROM Manager", boot into recovery, at the red triangle sign press & hold the UP volume button than press power again, than choose "Apply update.zip from sdcard" press power again and your in the recovery mode as in "R5 Desire" but without the risk of bricking your device.
thx for the great patch
and a request, could you speedup the photo loading speed? i noticed the loading speed is slow even if i open a 800*480 jpeg file (yes, original Gallery3D had such issue too), I use sandisk class2 16G sdhc tf

There's nothing much that can be done since the app uses standard Android APIs for loading images. However, I do beleive that the speed of your SD (class 2 is the slowest) plays a major role in the speed of the loading process.

Non-Market Bravo

I am brand new to XDA and therefore can't post to the development thread. I have done Super One Click to my bravo and I believe it successfully rooted it. I am trying to add the wifi tether app but because it's non-market it won't let me load the application. The SOC said that it successfully added the non-market app coding but it doesn't seem to have worked. Any suggestions?
Enable att non-market app
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* I am not responsible if you brick your phone, but this is the easiest way, besides ADB shell comand.
** this step also work on At&t flipout
1. Root your bravo.
2. Install "RootExplorer".
3. Install "SQLite Editor".
4. Use "RootExplorer" take you to
/data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db/settings
5. click on the "Value" colum of "force_only_market_apps"
6. Press "menu" button and select "Edit Field"
7. Change "1" to "0", then save.
Now you have "Unknown sources" option available for you at "Application Settings". ( check it to enable non-market install directly from web or your microsd card )
So you're saying using the SQL editor on the phone to change the value right? Also is there a free editor available? I've seen this online and have a free root explorer but so far ahven't found a free editor.

I don't know other free editor...
There is a discussion about pulling the file out of the phone, edit it and re-install back in. ( somehow I found that method little more risky, if you didn't keep the file in proper format, you might end up w/ infinite loop )
enable non market app on Motorola bravo
First i want to thank No Clue for the final part of this post , because without him i could not have made it possible .
Here is a step by step method to remove (non-market App ) block from your
Motorola BRAVO with AT&T:
First you need to make sure your Bravo is Rooted.
Here is what you need to do for that:
1- you plug your Motorola Bravo to your computer, using the USB cord provided
and as prompted, install the driver (motorola portal) needed to sync your
phone to your PC.Make sure you Check on : Settings/Applications/Development/
USB Debugging.(debug mode when USB connected)
2- Once phone connected to PC successfully. Download this zip file (added below):
AC-SWM.zip
Unzip on your desktop.
( the content of this zip file has everything to perform what is commonly called :
"side load" non-market applications.)
* How to use AC-SWM:
- drop your non-market application into the "payload" folder
- doubleclick "loader.bat" to run application
- If phone successfully connected to computer. a DOS window
will come up and will read "daemon started successfully"
and will show a serial number of the device attached.
the rest is pretty much self guided.
- You push enter and it will show the process of installing wathever
app you have on your "payload" folder. If installed successfully it will
display message "Success".
3- Knowing this. The first step to successfully control internal data on your phone
is to "root" it.
Thats where you are going to need the "side load" method to install :
Superuser.apk (added below)
This will give the following applications access to your phone ROM
z4root.1.3.0.apk (added below).
That little application is the easyest way to root your phone.
just install it and run it. On screen your will have a button that says "ROOT"
press on it and let the magic happen! It will root the phone and will reboot by
itself.
Once the phone back on you should be rooted.
4- Now that it is rooted. There is an option that was removed from your phone
by AT&T that enables "non-market" applications to install.
You need to get to the settings database on your phone to restore that option.
ON Motorola bravos the two database files that controls this option are :
etc/motorola/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/setting.mkitso
and
etc/motorola/com.android.providers.settings/secure.mkitso.
But without some sort of file explorer app you can't access those files.
We are going to use the same "side load" process to install these apps:
- root explorer.apk (added below)
- sqleditor.v1.4.apk (added below)
* what are their functions?
- root explorer, will allow you to show on a list all the files on your phone
including the "root directory" files among witch will be listed the two files
we talked about above. but at this point we can only see them, but we can't
change the codings on them (edit).
- To be able to "edit" data files on your phone you need SQLite editor. It will
also give you the ability to change the codings to it .
5- So after installing those two applications . Run root explorer, it'll take a
little time to find and list all the files on your phone . Then get into these files:
data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
(*thats when sql editor will take over and allow you to see settings.db contents)
you go to "secure"
locate the line listed as : Install_non_market_apps press "menu" button to edit
Records and change value to "1".
and save change.
data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
(*thats when sql editor will take over and allow you to see settings.db contents)
you go to "settings"
locate the line listed as : force_only_market_apps press "menu" button to edit
Records and change value to "0".
and save change.
6- go back to home screen and open settings on home screen menu
Applications, and voila!
you should have now an "unknown sources" check field available to you.
PS: if Field is not showing try to download a non-market app directly to Phone
and install.
phone will show a message asking if you are sure you want to authorize this app.
and a setting button.
once you say yes the first time. This field will be available to you then .
Now that worked for me and i am currently able to install non-market app
straight to my phone .

cause previous user was able to make it work!
Is it one of the files i attached that is not working for you?!
give me details please?!
When I installed your root explorer and sqlite file the sq wouldn't autostart. I have been modding for a while so I rushed and just pulled the db files edited and replaced. Which caused a boot cycle. So I hard reset and installed my purchased root and sq apps. It worked flawlessly that way. I will be dumping my system into the kitchen over the weekend.
With how smooth this phone is I would have figured another dev would have started working with this phone. I will be working on the Bravo while working on my X10. Wish me luck.

Yeah! You right, noone even gave it the time of the day... I guess it's because of all those restrictions with AT&T.
But you know where to find me if you get the cooked ROM to work on this!!!
GOOOOOODDDD LUUUUCCKKKK!!!!
I would say the first step to this is to change the bootloader , but can't find a clockwork that works on Bravo.
same problem plagued the X10 for the longest of times. Now they have about 8 roms including MIUI and CM7 with a locked bootloader. So patients and time will be the key.
just set up WIFI tether. Worked great Thank you.
So Londnwhitted,
The unlocking process worked fine for you with files attached?!
glad i was able to help... apparently those files works fine for some people, and not too well for others, still dont see what is causing this!

you need to master reset after changing those 2 files on most bravo's, that is probably the problem. I did your procedure a while back on my gf's bravo using info i pieced together from other phones, i tried everything but it would not work till i master reset after making the changes, period.

Sideloader worked great.
The explorer and the sql editor worked. I only changed the 2nd value "force_only_market_apps" and then i was good to go. I couldnt find the Install_non_market_apps value. But after everything i didnt need it.
Didnt have to reset.
Tether works (2.06 not the 3.0) but its rather slow on my nook color. anyone have any ideas how to speed it up?

it may be because i assume ur using the adhoc mod for ur nook color? i hear the supplicant used is problematic. Unfortunately i doubt the bravo wifi supports ap mode but has anyone tried? dl wifi tether 3.0 from the google code site and see if it will let you set hostapd mode. it works great on the dx but the dx has an ap mode wifi firmware included from motorola for the vzw app.
I use abd install extremely easy for installing third party apps, simple and very painless.

UBUNTU and/or BACKTRACK on the I9300 (Samsung Galaxy S3)

============================================================
SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 with UBUNTU
============================================================
So I really wanted to try and use Ubuntu on my Samsung Galaxy S3, cause I already placed an order for the MHL cable so that i can hook it up to my monitor. (and also a docking station). And I think thats just awesome.
Now my plan is to show UBUNTU for android (ubuntu.com) in progress by Canonical that the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 is the right phone for this.
And beside i think this phone has a lot of potentional.
I even like the idea that in a few months maybe some genius can figure out a dual boot system between "android & windows 8 ARM".
But now I had alot of problems figuring out how to get ubuntu to work on my Samsung Galaxy S3.
So I decide to write a short how-to.
============================================================
HOW-TO
============================================================
Now first of all, credits go to the maker "zacthespack" of the following app "ubuntu installer"
As he suggests please first try the free version and after that buy the paid version since you have more options...
IMPORTANT:
I wrote this thread for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and I will call this further SGS3.
Your SGS3 needs to be rooted and I also installed the OMEGA v4.0 rom.
Since you need a kernel with loop support.
(maybe the insecure kernel with you'll get with the rooting is also good enough, I am not sure)
ALSO
Be sure to have usb debugging on.

Further more:
THIS IS BASED ON VNC VIEWER AND REQUIRES INTERNET PREFERABLE WIFI. THIS IS NOT A FULL EXPERIENCE LIKE ON YOUR COMPUTER. HOWEVER THIS IS A TASTE OF THE FUTURE TO COME.
STEP 1:
So when installed, run the "ubuntu installer" app and it will show you that you need 3 more apps:
- VNC Viewer
- Android Terminal Emulator
- Busybox
STEP 2:
After installing those you can download the ubuntu file.
But not the script!
Now the orginal script is the problem, somehow this script cannot be friends with the SGS 3.
STEP 3:
So I re-wrote the one from "zacthespack"...
ubuntu.sh
click to download.
STEP 4:
This script and the ubuntu file you chose to download (small, medium or large) you put these in to a folder called "Ubuntu" place this folder in your "home map" of your phone. This map is called "SDCARD" not to confuse with your "extSDCARD" which is your external sdcard.
STEP 5:
now run the terminal and type:
Su
cd /sdcard/ubuntu
sh ubuntu.sh
after that you will get alot of text and it will ask you which resolution you want.
Well since the SGS 3 is a 720p phone you type:
1280x720 now you get alot of text again.
Then the terminal will ask the following:
safe this as default? (y/n)
Well "N" which means "no" and "Y" means "yes" ofcourse.
So this means it will remember the resolution etc.
Then you'll get this screen:
sometimes the terminal will ask you to put in a password 2 times
password is : "ubuntu"
proceed to the next step
STEP 6:
go back to your homescreen and open the VNC viewer.
I type following:
click CONNECT... and voila
if you did everything right you will get this:
this is a picture of ubuntu on my phone... so you see it works...
============================================================

Thanks for the guide!
Thank you so much ! This is the only advantage of such a great hardware that ain't needed on a phone.
But as a fully working computer always to go it's great.
I will try later when everything is tested because I'm not developing just using.
Please keep your nice tutorial alive!

A small problem.
Ok, downloaded and extracted all the ubuntu stuff in /sdcard/ubuntu and also placed your script in the same folder but when i go to the terminal and type sh ubuntu.sh it shows me some errors
Code:
ubuntu.sh[6]:cut: not found
ubuntu.sh[17]: synatx error: 'If' unmatched
here's the screenshot
Using Omega v4.0
Thank you
What MHL cable and docking station have you ordered because apparently a working MHL cable is yet to be released?
Ebay friend... now the s3 uses a higher MaH then for example the s2.
So you need to buy a mhl for s3 and not someone who advertises for "mhl for s2, nexus and s3" this wont work.

Do you have usb debugging on?
And do you have busybox installed?
And the busybox i refered to in the how-to other versions of busybox do not seem to work with this.

I am not familar with this error.
However i would suggest to remove busybox and uninstall the busybox app and VNC viewer. Be sure to use the same as I described.
And I used UBUNTU large image and my script.
If it still does not work.
Please remove all above and the ubuntu installer and image etc..
And try backtrack installer, but then use the script which is supplied with the installer.
This mostly works right away. There is something odd about ubuntu v12.
But you should get it to work, like i did.
I would just tell, that i run ubuntu on my galaxy s 3 with just the cf kernel. No need to run omega rom, but it maybe runs better with omega if it uses less ram, then stock. I also have the ubuntu image on the external sdcard and i runs alright from there, again it may run faster from the internal SD - so instead of writing cd sdcard/ubuntu i just write cd mnt/extSdCard/ubuntu
Just wanted to tell that it's possible to run with stock rom and from external SD(3,5 GB is alot on the internal SD when i only have the 16GB version)

I think you are receiving this error because the Ubuntu image is inside ubuntu1204-v2-full (or your corresponding folder) not inside /sdcard/Ubuntu. Just move the image from that folder to /sdcard/Ubuntu and it should work.
Same problem here and I have copied the files to the right folder. I'm running stock rom with the insecure kernel and busybox installed using busybox installer.
How well does it run on the phone? I wanna do this so i can finally go play some java games on the net xD

yes just install minimal adb drivers, it'll still ask you to install it choose no instead.
For proper working of windroid make sure usb debugging is turned on and when your phone asks for granting permission to PC, grant it.
From the list of phones available if you choose your phone it'll give you an error happened with me, don't panic just press the drop down arrow to hide the phones list.
Now, you'll have 3 tabs choose commands tab, select reboot device if it works then you've succeeded if not then maybe install your device specific drivers.
Note that if you choose to flash any files it'll ask you to choose the file.
Hope This Helps

Hisense 43A6H Google tv rootable?

I'm about to buy this TV is it rootable?
Hisense 43A6H Google tv rootable?
Technically speaking anything that runs on android can achieve root access. But I think you’re asking if there’s active development. I recently bought a Hisense 65” U6h myself, and there is no development that I have found . If all you need is root, try to get your hands on the stock boot.img from the factory rom. If there’s any updates for your model download it on the computer extract the boot.img and then copy it to a usb drive plug the drive into your tv install magisk apk and use the boot.img on the flash drive to do the patch. Would you mind if I ask what you are trying to accomplish with root access?
well I'm actually trying to remove system apps the easy way by using Mi Explorer and improve system performance and free up some internal storage space so I have enough room to play morrowind by the way sorry for the no spaces I'm not really sure how to use this remote control microphone on my Hisense 43a6h Google TV. honestly there's a lot more stuff I want to do with it as well though like using Viper for Android and among other things like my God VPN repeater hotspot. thanks

Hey. I’m so sorry about the delayed reply I haven’t been on the forum too often lately. I’m not too familiar with the pkg compression personally. If you were able to pull that boot.img you should be able to just use that in magisk as the boot image to patch. I’ll log in my computer soon and try to download it and see what happens on my Linux system. How did you get that firmware file from them, what did you ask? I might just end up doing the same lol. I have been using adb to remove things such as google tv home launcher replaced with premium projectivy

Mine is the U6h but is essentially the same. For these purposes at least. The main difference between the two is a different type of panel .
I wonder if you have the blinking power light issue like I do after using adb to fully remove google home launcher. I took a sharp knife and one of those square rubber feet for furniture and cut it down to size and put it on top of that light. I’d rather do that than have the stock launcher even having a chance of re installing itself
Wow cool which launcher are you using? Whats the stock launcher filename? I'm going to try to unlock the bootloader soon then I guess I'll learn how to dump the whole os and dump the boot.img I guess idk what im doing but ive done this before with mtk devices just not a tv.

yeah dumping/compiling is above my skill set. The launcher I use is Projectivy. I paid for the premium version to support the dev because I really like it, but the only feature premium adds is being able to choose a wallpaper from storage. Also the package name is going to always be listed below the name of the app when you are in settings>apps> highlighted app...... google tv launcher I removed with adb shell and command adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx if you end up disabling the google launcher I highly recommend also disabling set up wizard afterwards. Otherwise, the app will re-download and you will be playing whack a mole.
I just tried disabling the launcherx and it disabled the SETTINGS button on the remote which is a deal breaker. How do I fix this? I like using Nova Launcher instead of the stock launcher.
Hello good sir.
